Chesham Cottage in Chiltern

We’re new to the area and had some friends coming over and wanted to do a take away. We thought we’d give Chesham Cottage a try, and we were really impressed. Food was of great quality and lots of it. We had a big order and everything was there - and even though the gentleman on the phone said it was about an hours wait, and I asked if they could try and get it to us sooner, it came 30 mins earlier than expected. We will definitely get a takeaway from there again!

Unfortunately not worth the money. 40 minute wait for collection with only two dishes. Salt and pepper chicken tasted floury and soggy and for some reason had prawn crackers broken up at the bottom. Singapore noodles were mushy and wet, alright in flavour but all over very wet, didnt finish. Unfortunately won't be returning.

We order from Chesham Cottage on a semi regular basis. It’s our favourite in town, not sure what everyone else is on about in their reviews as we’ve never had a problem with the food or service. It can be a long wait for delivery, which they will inform you of. If it’s too long, you can go and pick it up. Easy as water meadow car park is a very short walk away. The food is some of the best Chinese I’ve had, and I’ve had a few! The dim sum options are especially excellent. The mock meat options are a welcome sight on the menu if we ever have any vegan guests around who like to get the meat experience without the meat. And now you can order online, superb!

Really disappointing. Waited over an hour for delivery (not a problem) but when the food came, nothing was labelled and it was almost impossible to tell what dish was what and we eventually realised that 2 dishes we ordered were incorrect and totally the wrong dish, not even nearly correct. If someone had an allergy to a certain nut or food, this would be a big problem. The wrong dish that came we believed to be a duck dish but the meat was so chewy and SO fatty it was inedible. Also ordered the beef in black bean sauce and it was the spiciest thing I've ever eaten - it was not stated anywhere that this was a spicy dish. Overall really poor quality food and the wrong dishes delivered. Look elsewhere for a takeaway!

Had takeaway Friday lunch time. Part of meal was Duck chinese style which was uneatable. Very tough.could have been remains from previous night meals. Quality needs continous checking

Ordered a take away got it home all went in the bin even the prawn crackers were damp Phone and told them he just said thank you Never again

Pleasant people, long wait for food, which was frankly like someone went to China on holiday once and thought they'd open a takeaway when they got home. Price was reasonable and no upset tummies the next day. Won't be going again

The veggie food is fresh, crunchy and tasty. Great price too. Will definitely be back!

Awful. I am sorry to be writing this but I do think it was that bad. The beers were out of date, the greasy noodles were disgusting and my main had no vegetables in the chow mein. We found random bits of prawn crackers in our dinner. Not ok. We have now had no dinner. Most certainly will not be returning.

Fantastic food. First time going and we went on my partners birthday. It was heaving but we only waited 5 minutes (if that) for them to have a table ready for us and service was impeccable. The obvious manager/owner really rallied the team and there were lots of smiles even though it was clearly such a busy day! :)

Had such a lovely evening and the range of Chinese food on the menu was great; the service was amazing and they make you feel so welcome. Highly recommed and I'll definitely be going back!

Friendly service. Take away only. Prices are OK but food was pretty tasteless. Big portions though if quantity over taste is your thing. Sorry but that is how it was for us.

Excellent food, best I’ve had anywhere, I was surprised by the lack of consistency in the reviews, I gave 4 stars instead of 5 due to being expensive, but I don’t mind paying more for good food,

Never been here before and definitely will not be coming back! The most awful food. No flavour in sweet and sour - filled with carrots &peas! Greasy noodles. Dry tasteless prawn toast. Terrible food.

Cold overcooked greasy chewy food had to wait an hour. How can you have every component cold. Really poor quality and service. As other Chinese closed today gave it a shot. What a mistake

The mixed starter was cold, very greasy and over deep fried. The ribs were really dry. Had a 1/4 duck that I think had been deep fried to reheat it and it was hard. Mains dishes were OK, but not as hot as usual. Disappointing delivery, usually much better.

I have been a customer here for many years and have never had a problem a great redtaurant

The Steamed Shrimp Dumplings are incredible. Will definitely be ordering again. They also take card payments unlike the other neighbouring Amersham takeaways. Very efficient and courteous

We recently have moved into the area and were looking for a decent Chinese near to where we live so we gave Chesham Cottage a go. Never again. The wait time to pick the food up was fine given that it was a Saturday night (one hour); but the food itself was forgettable. The chicken Satay we ordered was the most fatty chicken I have eaten in a long time. I ate about half of the first one and left the rest. As for the beef dishes and prawn dishes we ordered they were bland and Luke warm and tasted nothing like other Chinese restaurants we have used before and the crispy duck was so over cooked that it there a lot of crisp but very little meat. There's no chance we will order from here again. For £30 it was a lot of money for a very poor standard of food.

Thought we would give this a go as our usual is closed on a Tuesday. Diabolical. Not only expensive but inedible. Mixed starters are clearly pre-prepared as they were dry and overcooked. If this was a shop, I would ask for my money back. Be warned.

BIG shout out to Chesham Cottage! We had the most amazing delivery from them yesterday after craving Chinese. We had a bad experience a couple of weeks ago after ordering Thai locally which I love and were so disappointed with our “highlight of the week” but Chesham Cottage did not disappoint I’ve been working like a slave in the kitchen for weeks trying to keep everyone fed and happy desperately trying new recipes to help with the lockdown loco, I needed a break for my own sanity! Food was delivered in 30 minutes, was hot, fresh and full of flavour, plus there was enough for 6 and we thought we had ordered for 3! Very reasonable price for the quantity and quality we happily received. So, if you fancy a treat and want to support local, we can HIGHLY recommend Thank you CHESHAM COTTAGE (noodles for breakfast yum yum)

Totally messed my order up delivered the wrong food and took nearly two hours to deliver. Would have taken over an hour to replace it. Food wasn't even that good. Never order from them again. Can't wait for the other decent takeaways to reopen.

First time using this takeaway have to say best chinese takeaway I've had in a long time. Food was great quality was delivered still piping hot. Delivery driver struggles to find us as normal but phoned us straight away so no problem there. Price is normal for a chinese so not over priced as others are saying. Will definitely be using again to see if the standard we recieved tonight is the norm and then will definitely give 5 stars. Keep up the good work!!

My husband and I visited Chesham Cottage on valentine's evening and had a lovely dinner. There were 2 other couples in on this windy wet night and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. We had a couple of starters and mains and everything was good. The house white was very drinkable and not expensive. So pleased we were lucky enough to get a table and we will definitely return.

This was a pleasant surprise. Have lived just outside Chesham for a few years and never been to this restaurant but decided to give it try on Chinese New Year weekend. Family of four and it had all of our favourites ; dumplings, ribs, crispy duck , sizzling beef and all well cooked with fresh ingredients. Service was good even though the take away section seemed to be doing a roaring trade. Nothing fancy inside but for a good value Chinese with the kids it was great.

When you order a takeaway from a restaurant for the first time you never really know what you’re going to get, despite any reviews you might have read. I can honestly say that the Chesham Cottage were absolutely first class. Fast & efficient delivery, and the food was sublime. We only made a small order of beef with black bean, sweet & sour chicken, vermicelli noodles and rice, but the portions were very generous and the quality and depth of flavour of the food was easily on a par with what you would expect from a much more expensive, high end Chinese restaurant. I was honestly seriously impressed with them and would highly recommend anyone to experience this excellent example of Chinese food. Well done.

Well... Where to start?! As soon as I sat I was expecting a normal Chinese meal until me and my grandma sat by the fish-tank and saw... a real seahorse which I've never seen before!... Spoke to the main man who told me the seahorse has been there since the restaurants been open.. we were also intrigued by the talking trout!... Also, stupendous crispy duck ... :)

This is a gem. Please visit this lovely restaurant/takeaway. It is simple but the food is excellent and the service charming. We have visited many times and recommend the prawn dim sum dumplings, crispy duck and Szechuan prawns especially. We love it.

We had takeaway from here on Friday night, arrived with no hitch! We had the mixed starters (yum) Lemon Chicken / Chicken Cashew / Chicken Fried Rice / Prawn Crackers. The mixed starters were good, the spring rolls don't look like they normally do, but taste great! Food arrived on time and piping hot! We will order again!

Food is tasty and the portions is at good size to share. A bit more expensive but it is worth it. Spicy King Prawn & Duck rice is my fav.

I had the duck, samosas, egg fried rice, chicken balls and some noodles and I have to say the food was fantastic. But the place is really cramped and the lady serving us kept getting things wrong.

I have now had two takeaways and a sit down meal at this little restaurant and have been pleased with the service and food. Nothing spectacular but pleasant and polite staff. Food hot and tasty.

We are regular and enthusiastic Chinese takeaway customers, but won't be coming here anymore. Over priced over charged, Crispy seaweed dish missing. Sloppy inattentive service, everytime we've ordered to collect we have to wait as they are late bringing food out. Parking close is difficult. Foods ok but not the quality you'd expect for the price.

It's ok. Nice man serving who did a good job. Food was alright but the carpet in the restaurant was absolutely disgusting it was dirty and sticky to walk on.

Lovely cosy little restaurant and quiet for some maybe because away from centre. However, worth trying because the food is very tasty and portions adequate for the price you pay. We had Steamed Dim Sum, spicy prawns and duck with Singapore noodles. Noodles a bit watery compared to other Singapore noodles we've eaten but maybe depends on region? House wine usual as in most Chinese restaurants drinkable. Welcoming host who seemed to be busy with the takeaway area also but very hospitable, smiley and friendly asking if OK. even offered to provide new cutlery when slipped onto floor from my hand. Good opening hours from 5:15 p.m. especially if seeing a show or just want to eat early much appreciated by us! Some may find lack of atmosphere but we enjoyed our meal and visit and would go again if in the area. Thank you Chesham Cottage, you deserve to keep a warm welcome :-)

Nice friendly warm restaurant. Food is great. I loved them noodles. Definitely we will be back soon.

This place is absolutely fabulous the food is amazing the hospitality is amazing. I can't recommend it enough. I look forward to seeing them again.

I have eaten here many times over the years both inside the restaurant and takeaway. I feel that the quality and taste of the food on offer, has gone down over the years. I have eaten the Chinese curry, sweet and sour pork. The restaurant isn't that popular so sometimes we are the only patrons in there.

Absolutely amazing customer setvice. First time costumer. Lovley warm welcome upon entering. Also the food was so delicious. Will 100% be back.

Very nice place, delicious Chinese food at very reasonable prices. Best Chinese food we had for a long long time. Friendly staff who really takes good care of you. We highly recommend this place.

Ridiculously long wait for average food. Not happy at spending £42 without a "sorry it took so long" Back to the Station cafe in Hemel Hempstead from now on.

We waited 1 hour 45 mins on a Monday night after originally being told an hour for delivery. Our very disappointing meal turned up with a very non-apologetic driver and staff on the phone when we called to ask where it was.

Really enjoyed the food, very tasty. The food tasted freshly cooked. Loved the surroundings and cosy feel to the restaurant.

It wasn't nearly as bad as has been previously, service was really good and didn't take long for it to be ready (I'd walked in for a takeaway). Would eat from here again- although not any of the chicken, both dishes we had were a bit greasy..

Lovely food but not the best atmosphere.

Absolutely awful. No words can describe this experience. They call this a chinese they should go back to China to learn how to cook. First time experience and last.

Ordered a takeaway, set menu D at £54 for 4 people which, according to their website, included the imperial hors d’oevres which appeared to be good value and should have consisted of vegetarian spring rolls, satay chicken, prawn toast, barbecued spare ribs and seaweed; individual items of hor ‘doevres were taken direct from their website and also verified by the person taking my order as have been bitten with missing and incorrect items from this takeaway on two previous occasions.

Only 4 star at this time as it was my first visit for a takeaway, I found it very clean welcoming and the Gentleman that served me was very polite friendly and engaged in conversation. The food was outstanding, flavoursome and was plenty of it in large containers. The curry I had was delicious (not full of onion) but with much meat and veg with a great taste and aroma. I only have one criticism but I am sure it was just a simple mistake, I ordered a Roast Pork Curry but when it come to dishing up it was a Beef Curry. Not a problem though as it was great. Will definitely be using them again, I wont be complaining about the mistake as I enjoyed it so much, so overall much better than other local Chinese Takeaways in taste and amount, and time waiting. I think giving them 5 stars will have to wait until a couple more visits and a seating in the delightful restaurant they have. Great meal Chinese Cottage look forward to trying another dish, preferably a 'Roast Pork Curry' lol... Coming back to this review.... After tonight Jan 14 2018. Had a problem with my order again as the same above, but this is not the second time, it is the 4th or 5th issue since writing this review. Now adding to my review, I will never be using this establishment again and I will be informing all my family and friends that use you not to either. After tonight you was rude and unprofessional, even after informing you my mother recently died who was one of your regular customers, you simply said 'Find a better restaurant'. Disgusting rude and unapologetic. Even when I was leaving I replied to another comment you made, by saying that I had no problem with your food it is outstanding but your service and attitude is terrible. Avoid this restaurant!!

looks elsewhere for a take away, special fried rice was basically rice with a bit of chicken and 2, max 3 prawns, chicken satay pinkish and had a strong smell, spring rolls were more like donaughts than actual crispy ones, could go one for ever, worse £40 spent for a take away, made sure their flier was in the bin half way trough the meal🤮

Possibly the worst food I have tried to eat!Now I have had food from some terrible places while working away from home but this was shocking. Our order was completely wrong and items missing. We had 8 mile drive back to where we were staying so after a 14 hour day was in no mood to drive back. There was no care shown about the food. The curry I had was sweet, was probably bisto gravy with curry powder. It had no palatable flavours all. Food was not good at all for the uncompetitive prices too.

I was always wondering why this restaurant is empty. I put it down to a location which is central but off the main path.

We generally have the set menu. Food is plentiful and freshly cooked. Feels like you are sitting in someone's living room. Friendly staff. They do a good takeaway service too.

Superb place! Food tastes better than anywhere else. Regular customer here for the last 10 years for both eat in and takeaways. Hope this place never shuts down!

Mi esposa y yo vinimos anoche para nuestro primer aniversario de boda.

Nos dejó de ir aquí ya que la comida es mala. Volvimos a dar otra oportunidad y fue sorprendentemente malo. Rollitos de primavera eran simplemente extraño. Después el pato me sentía enfermo. El plato de carne fue terrible, y debe haber sido el más barato posible. Después nos fuimos mi mujer, que tiene un estómago sensible trajo todo de vuelta. No nos vamos a volver.

Pedimos desde aquí por primera vez en un año utilizada para me encanta la comida, pero esperamos una hora para que los alimentos lleguen no venga esperamos otros 15 antes de llegar entonces la orden estaba equivocada y no recibir todo lo que queríamos. En este punto todos estábamos hambrientos, así que comimos lo que nos dieron, pero después de esta experiencia probablemente no experimente nuestro "favorito" de nuevo local.

Great old restaurant ,good food

Buen restaurante chino. La entrega puede tomar más de una hora y media en noches agitadas, pero avisamos de antemano. La comida es siempre fresca.

Hemos de Chesham Cottage en el último año o así, debido a su disminución progresiva, pero pensamos que lo otro vaya. ¡Qué diferencia! !

La comida estaba bien y ellos hacen la entrega. La zona es mal servido por restaurantes chinos así que éste es probablemente uno de los mejores.

Just rusbish!! It surprises me that they remain open. Im sure if i attempted it, i could cook better chinese food.

Had a takeaway last night. The delivery time was actually ok.. 45 mins which is usually the standard time for a Friday night.But the food was awful.We ordered 1/4 duck, which was so small, half of what I get in my local chinese in berkhamsted. And the cucumber was gone/mouldy. I threw most of it away and what was left was horrible.Not to have fresh cucumber is bad! It takes two seconds. This must have been there for a couple of days.We had crispy chilli beef which looked like nothing I've had before! Like rice noodles that are fried. No sauce so very dry. This is favourite dish... And again threw half of it away. Crispy squid...... Well it wasn't at all crispy! Very floppy and wet! Mixed starter- for 11.50 is quite small!! And we asked to change/leave the spring rolls and give us more seaweed which they agreed... Wen it came they had removed the rolls but had definatley not given us more seaweed as the carton it comes in is sectioned and the seaweed was only in one section which u would normally get.. So we got mugged off. Chicken satay is more like tofu and the ribs were ok.Prawn chow mien the noodles were nice but 4 prawns and for nearly £7 that is taking the mick!!This cost over £40 and most of it ended up in the bin. We only used this place as had delivery. ( which u have to pay for, should be payment over 3 miles not wen u just spend £47) But next time I will be ordering elsewhere and collecting or I will be getting one from berkhamsted and driving it myself to my friends in Chesham.Shame as we have chinese about 3/4 times a month so they are losing out on our money!!

We didn't eat in, rather ordered a takeaway. We chose to collect as the delivery time was over an hour and a half, but we ended up sitting and waiting in the restaurant for ages as the food wasn't ready when we arrived..... however the free drinks while we waited helped to do soften the blow! It was worth the wait - the food was lovely.

Service was good but the food wasnt all that, and there could have been more variety. There are better places.

This is our staple takeaway for Chinese food. You notice how good it is when taking away from other places...it just hits the mark. Crispy garlic king prawns are the must have but all is good and not expensive

Went there for valentines day, food was delicious and a very warm welcome. The dim sum was amazing. The sweet and sour chicken and egg fried rice was so tasty. Will be coming back soon.

Just ordered an awful take away from here.Firstly the order was taken incorrectly, so had to wait an additional 15 minutes for them to cook a chow mein whilst the rest of the order went cold. We ordered hor d'ourves, which all came in one box with salad - the spring rolls were not spring rolls at all and the seaweed was soggy. The main dish we ordered was full of peas. Just really not nice.This place needs some serious improvement. Definitely up there with the worst I've ever had.

Tried to order a home delivery. Was quoted a 9:30 pm delivery. I tried to order at 7:30 pm. They were rude and we ended up going elsewhere. Will not bother again, best avoided.

I really wanted to order a home delivery and they could only deliver after 9:30 pm. They call themselves a take away, that's just so bad for business. Lost a lot of money from me. NEVER going to use them again. SHOCKING SERVICE.

Never fails to please - my husband and I have been several times. Delicious filling dishes cooked and served expertly and promptly. Always a friendly welcome, family run restaurant with a warm comfy setting. The set menus are excellent value for money, very tasty and often more than we can eat. Well recommended!

Good value for money, friendly family run, cosy Chinese restaurant. Generous size dishes and just a really good all round Chinese.

Did a take away from here. Food wasn't bad and service was quite quick, but I've had better many times and the price wasn't special either. Might use again if I was pushed.

I love a treat take away once a month and Chesham cottage is my favourite. Always get the same chicken chow main, prawn curry and a spring roll.
