Golden River Chinese in Chiltern

My two chicken satays tasted nothing, they were fried black. Chicken with pineapple was tasty. My first coke was flat. I give it a 6/10 because they are friendly.

nuthing better than a nice chinese on a friday . Been going here for a month and the curry sauce sweet and sour with chips and rice are fantastic ! ! the kids and wife love em 😂😂 . Dont forget to order the veg spring rolls too there great too

The owner was extremely rude to me, he kept yelling at me in mandarin, I think he kept saying "什么". Otherwise, the food was terrible, I chose the orange chicken and chips and it did NOT taste authentic! Go elsewhere!

First time customer ordered our delivery at 5pm it arrived 30 mins later hot and very tasty will definitely order our Friday night treat from this chinese takeaway again! Yummy

First time here, and very pleased with the service and food.

Ordered the house special rice and house special curry tonight. Bloody awful, the curry was like water and the rice dish had hardly any rice in it. Both dishes were just full of vegetables and that was mainly onions. Both dishes were supposed to contain beef, chicken and pork but one maybe two pieces of pork, a little beef and about 5 small pieces of chicken. If you're going to put your prices up then up again at least have the decency to continue serving the right portions. All i got tonight was a watery onion curry and a rice onion dish for near on £14. The meat (little of it) was rubbery and wet and the dishes were warm. This is the third time in a row where i've ordered inside the shop and food has been served lightning fast and cold which tells me they're just reheating or microwaving. I won't be using them again, three strikes and they're out. £14 for two dishes of onions, cheaper to buy them from the supermarket. SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOUR SELVES RIPPING OFF CUSTOMERS THAT HAVE USED THIS TAKE-AWAY FOR OVER 30-40YRS. DISGUSTING.

Great takeaway food at reasonable prices. Always give accurate times of when food is available and its always piping hot. Family run and they get to know your order after a while. Good customer service.

Ordered duck which came pretty pink. Called up the restaurant and I could hear the chef screaming her lungs off in the background. Very rude… they then delivered extra burnt duck. Chung ying house is much better. Never had it pink from there! Will not be ordering from golden river again. Such a shame …we used to love golden river, and went there as kids on a regular basis.

I tried order some food for delivery and I have just asked for some extra vegetable on my beef fried rice and they told me to call another chinese restaurant. DONT CARE ABOUT CUSTOMER

I had changed my original review to a 5 star rating but the last two meals from here were bad. Both meals were chicken curry and egg fried rice. The first one the curry was cold when i got home 2mins after pick up and the second meal a couple of weeks later the rice was cold. This tells me they have copied the Chung Ying at the top of the village and started cooking the food the day or week before and storing it. Won't be using again and have gone back to the Kun Sing in Beaconsfield. Bloody shame as the food here got good with new owners but now it seems they couldn't care less and it's all about reaping the profit by reheating food in a microwave.

Have been eating chinese for 30+ years as chinese is my favourite take away and I have to say this is definitely one of the best the food has so much flavour and is always nice and hot I just can’t fault it” 💯 the best chinese within a good few miles radius would definitely recommend. Absolutely love the beef chow mein and Singapore noodles. Very clean inside and covid secure. Will get us through another lockdown!

I only order vegetarian dishes here some of which are customised to my liking without an issue. Staff is nice and so far having come here several times now, I have no complaints.

I love Chinese food and have eaten plenty over the past 30+ years but over these past months with new owners/chefs the food has excelled. Very friendly staff and the food is second to none compared to any Chinese Take-Away nearby. A+

Its been a while since we had a takeaway from Golden River. Visited tonight and delighted with the tasty meal and value for money. Excellent spring roll, generous portions and good all round.

There are 3 Chinese restaurants / takeaways in Chalfont St Peter. Having tried all 3, this is the one I prefer but there isn't much difference between all three. Usually, food is prepared quickly even if the service is very business like. I noted on my last visit that the hygiene standard is rated as 4 out of 5, which worried me a little.

Great food! However, very poor service & high prices

Ordered the Special Set Peking meal for Four .....easily enough food for five of us with some left over. Everyone enjoyed the meal and was available for collection within 20mins despite obviously being busy (Fri evening).

I tried this place two years ago, give it a bad review which is now a "5"! SO tied again and still poor in every way, the worst Chinese in Chalfont and the most expesive

Set meal menu is great, very tasty fresh food, best in the area. They also deliver but I always collect.

I LOVE this place, having recently moved away to Aylesbury I am absolutely gutted as none of the 5 Chinese’s in our area are even come close and I’ve even stopped having Chinese because of this- where as I would have it weekly/fortnightly when I lived in CSP. I haven’t sampled all the dishes but the duck is so good and the best ever chicken balls and my partner says the Singapore noodles are pretty great. Granted the chap isn’t oozing with excellent customer service skills but he’s never unpleasant or rude and is just busy doing his duties and juggling all the orders he’s getting, and I like him.....he’s a nice guy just busy. I have however heard how he has been spoken to before on the phone by some ‘customers’ and it’s been extremely rude so maybe his disposition has been tainted by that of others over the years. Anyway like I said he’s nice enough and and it offers really great food, I’ve always collected so can’t comment on the delivery but food is fab and I’ve yet to find a sweet and sour sauce that anywhere near competes!

I lived in Chalfont for many years and always used the rival Chinese takeaway “Chung ying house”. Unfortunately It rapidly declined in quality so we switched to golden river about 3-4 years ago. Very consistent and always on time with home delivery , slightly expensive but never disappointed, Singapore noodles are worth a try and the ribs in capital sauce 👍

Of the two Chinese takeawayscin the vicinity, this is the better one. Food is good and reasonably priced. Necer had cause to complain.

Order was prepared quickly and was served hot. Chicken balls were lovely. Not bad food all in all and I would eat there again.

Food is better than it was a couple of years ago but the guy behind the counter is one miserable sod and they don't seem to handle busy periods very well. Won't be using them again and will stick to the Kun Sing in beaconsfield where they're happy to take orders and never tell you on the telephone to hold on the line for upto five to ten minutes. Golden River is not very professional nor are their customer relation skills over the phone or face to face. Will be avoiding in future.

The food is the best there is. An amazing taste with brilliant ingredients. I have been going to this Chinese for over 10 years and whenever I go anywhere else it is incomparable. Great customer service, always friendly and polite.

Good service but average Chinese takeaway food.

Very expensive and poor service as well as not so good on the food front either, certainly will not be going back. Rice cost about £6 per portion for a takeaway total rip off no matter what the menu says!

Consistently decent, above average Chinese food delivered speedily and properly hot virtually every time. So quick in fact, some say they cook whilst driving!

Been coming here for years even though I moved away from chalfont and live in Amersham. It is well worth the trip because you know exactly what your getting every time. Very consistently good. No others in the area compare.

We always order food from here most recently yesterday evening usually chicken and rice with peking duck and all the food is always fresh the noodles are delicious.

Food very good. The man on the font desk is very helpful and honest, he overcharged me by mistake he had a difficult customer on the phone and made a mistake I didn't notice he came out to find me but I had gone , but when I went back he had my money in a envelop to return to me. Honest man Thank you.

La mejor salsa de cacahuate que he tenido. Por desgracia, cada vez que he peldaño para una entrega, me han hecho sentir una molestia, y fuimos al estado y chistaba(. Nunca he oído un por favor o un gracias a ellos. Siempre orden las bolas de pollo, pero nunca comer la salsa, simplemente se pone perdido, así que para la salsa de cacahuate (que cobran extra por, no es un problema), así que quizás son groseros conmigo porque son "difíciles de los clientes". Aunque la comida siempre ha sido bastante buena, me puedo físicamente hablar con la persona que contesta el teléfono de nuevo. Muy, muy grosero. No pedir de nuevo.

Very low quality Chinese takeaway, we even just used it for fried rice to compliment a meal and that was outragiously priced. Not found anything on the menu to say anything positive about and would avoid avoid avoid.

Nos encanta la comida china y el Golden River está a poca distancia pero sin conducir 15 millas por una buena comida para llevar china en vez de ir al Golden River. No estoy impresionado con la calidad y el sabor de los platos que he probado no ha sido de nuestro gusto. A lo largo de los años hemos intentado varias veces pero nada parece haber cambiado.

Good Chinese takeaway, takes telephone orders, swift food preparation. A little pricey but nice for an occasional treat.

Bueno, no está mal, pero no es genial. nicest chinese ive had as a take away. Ive never before had a crispy chilli beef arrive crispy (usually its soggy and chewy by time it arrives) but this place they manage to do it so i was very impressed the first time i ordered from here, oh and the satay sauce is delicious. quick delivery too or super fast if you collect.

Have had better and worse Chinese takeaways. Wouldn't not use again but may not be first choice. Service has always been good though.

If you like a Chinese takaway then you will enjoy food from Golden River. If you are a regular, like us, you will be given a customer number so that all your details are to hand and you don't have to spell out your name and address. The portions and quality are a good. If you order on a Friday or Saturday night you may have to wait for up to an hour. Food is warm/hot when it arrives, so you know it is fresh. Tip - we often order over the phone and collect as it saves a bit of time.

Used this Chinese for a good number of years even way back before it became a Chinese but tonights takeaway was awful and i won't be using ever again. The chips were re-heated and looked like some old mans yellow toe nails with black bits. The curry sauce was awful and my Singapore noodles were stone cold. I wouldn't mind but i rang up and collected within 5-10mins of ordering. Lost my business for serving up re-heated left-overs. I would have given minus stars if i could.

i have been looking for a decent chinese takeaway for ages and came across golden river which we tried last week and the food was excellent the best chinese i have tasted in a long while, but, the address on trip advisor is wrong it actually isnt in gerrards cross its in chalfont st peter which can cause a few problems to people who dont actually know the area

I recently blundered badly when I wrongly reviewed Chung Ying in Chalfont St Peter thinking I was writing about Golden River! I retract what I wrongly. THIS is the best Chinese takeaway in the area by far! I was sorry to see that a previous reviewer had such a negative impression. I have gone there sporadically over the years and find the food excellent and the portions generous by comparison with any takeaway Chinese here, in West London, or in any of the various ares of the country where I have lived. My touchstone for Chinese food is prawn dishes, and here for example the prawns are not only particularly plump and tasty; they are also more numerous in a portion than in any other place I have known. The rice is always cooked to perfection. By contrast I find Chung Ying's (and many others') prawns fairly tasteless and their portions OK but nothing special; in addition Chung Ying's fried rice, though generous, can be far too oily. All told, except on the rare occasion when they are shut, it is Golden River every time for me.
