Visited the hotel for a meal, food was excellent, service amazing. The staff were the most politest people we have been served by for a long time. Will definitely be going back

Decided to make a quick stop to grab some breakfast. Ordered breakfast baps and was delighted by the quality. Great stop for food made to perfection

Enjoyed a wonderful lunch today. Four of us opted for the five course menu. In truth it is seven courses as you get an amuse bouche and a pre-desert pud. We also had the poached oysters and they were sensational. The food was exquisite and the staff simply wonderful on every level, knowledgeable and friendly. Copious amounts of wine from a decent list washed the meal down beautifully. On the wine, prices are very reasonable with no greedy mark ups. All round a truly excellent place to enjoy a relaxing and wonderful long lunch. Well worth the trip from London.

Hotel decent enough but they have closed the beefeater, the pub/restaurant is only serving a limited and I mean limited menu to hotel guests only, no draught beers or lagers only an assortment of bottled beers and spirits.....also a bit shocked from the young lady swearing like a trooper in the kitchen at another member of staff (08/10/24) sat waiting for my meal listening to the foul rants, think I'll give this place a miss in the future...I use this hotel a few times a year think I'll give its competitors a trial and hopefully their staff can keep their explicit rants to themselves.....shame really, I think whitbread are ruining the customer experience to appease it's shareholders therefore stress is put on its frontline staff, but still it's no excuse.

On Friday 25th.Oct we visited The Sportsman with friends and had a lovely evening, the food was outstanding with great attention to detail. Even the bread selection was good. Every course didn’t disappoint and was superbly tasty. I particularly loved the roast partridge with bread sauce and rose hip syrup. The Lemon Verbena Posset with Madeline’s was lovely but the lemon tea that was served with it was horrible, it tasted like Lemsip but not as good. However, this didn’t matter as everything else was excellent. We will be returning.

Worst place ever tried to go here multiple times as I am a a holiday home near by every time it’s closed and it says it’s open at the door and online useless waste of time don’t expect them to be open in this tiny village
