I’ve been here a few times and the quality is consistently excellent. They serve the nicest coffees in Canterbury by a long shot and their kimchi toastie is absolutely delicious. In addition I always receive very friendly and cheerful service.

A pub with no bar? Sounds like something out of a riddle, doesn’t it? But step into The Thomas Tallis Alehouse, and you’ll find it’s not just a gimmick—it’s a genius way to make you feel like you’ve stumbled into someone’s (very well-stocked) living room. Hidden just off the beaten track, this gem feels like a secret worth keeping, but it’s too good not to share. The vibe? Relaxed, welcoming, and refreshingly unpretentious. The beer selection? A treasure trove for ale enthusiasts. The gin? Well, let’s just say I sampled enough to wonder why I ever drink anything else. And then there’s the lovely chap who looked after us. He didn’t just serve drinks—he curated an experience. No bar meant no barriers—just good conversation, recommendations you didn’t know you needed, and a proper pub vibe that’s increasingly hard to find. I could’ve spent hours here, and honestly, I’d probably still be there if I hadn’t eventually run out of excuses to stay. A must-visit for anyone who enjoys great drinks and even better company. Cheers to The Thomas Tallis Alehouse—you’ve got yourself a fan for life.

Here’s a more concise version: We had a fantastic lunch at Penny Theatre! The food was delicious, offering great flavors and variety. The service was excellent, with attentive and friendly staff ensuring we had a seamless experience. The ambience was modern and hip, yet comfortable and family-friendly—perfect for dining with our two kids. Highly recommend it for a great meal out!

The best sushi I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Amazing price for the amount of sushi you get and quality of ingredients used. Also a great selection of non sushi dishes. My Nan had the Katsu chicken curry which was also fantastic. The Chef and waitress were great and very welcoming when you arrive and makes sure you have everything you need while you are there. Would highly recommend anyone to try this wonderful restaurant.

Pizza was nice and ingredients seemed good quality but the price is extortionate for what you get. At least at Dominoes etc you always get good deals. The extra toppings are £1.50 each and you would never have known they were there. Really disappointing. Base is very thin, almost like a romana. This isn't necessarily a negative but it wasn't to my taste. One positive was that it was delivered hot, although this may have just been luck.

I had the beef brisket for £35, which has no go withs, so added chips and a very small mac and cheese, which came to £45 in total. The brisket was dry, chewy and extremely salty. For £45 in Canterbury I’m expecting a spot on meal, which this was not!
