We arrived mid-afternoon, and not realising they were closing early, proceeded to order lunch for us and our small person. They didn't tell us and let us eat - it was only partway through our meal we realised as the place emptied and the sign on the door mysteriously turned to closed. If we had known / realised, we wouldn't have put them to the trouble. But we were glad we were able to stay because the service was friendly and the food was delicious and filling. And even more special, one of the servers played games and did magic with our little girl, which she thoroughly enjoyed and has been trying to recreate ever since. A lovely place to eat. We will definitely come again - perhaps this time we will pay attention to the signs!

Love the place but the two staff working today must be having a competition between each other to see who can be the rudest to customers. I’m not sure who’s winning as they are both ignorant and rude as each other. BUT all is almost fore given and the Sunday roast was absolutely amazing. In fact the roast was one of the best I’ve ever had.
A step back in time! Beautiful building. Warm welcome. Lovely serving ladies.
Scrumptious warm scones. Tasty tea.
All served in China cups, silver teapots and linen serviettes.
Menu large with plenty of choice.
Delightful experience
We arrived at about 10am for what we thought would be a lovely breakfast. The place only had another two tables with people on.
We were greeted by a lovely lady and taken to our seat. We knew exactly what we wanted, a full breakfast. My husband usually has a big one and me a small, thinking a full breakfast for nearly £11 would come with two of everything. They didn’t offer a small one and I can see why, there was hardly anything on the breakfast. (1 sausage, 2 bacon, small portion of scrambled egg which was over cooked, mushrooms floating in grease, loads of beans and 1 slice of toast!!) I ordered cheese on toast with bacon for nearly £9. I got one slice of toast and 2 bacon plonked on top. The tea was lovely to be fair but had to wait half an hour for the tea to come and 45 minutes for the food. We won’t be returning far too expensive for the amount you got, we came away hungry!
Tonight was our first visit to your lovely restaurant. The first of many now.Food was excellent. And our lovely waitress Layla was very polite friendly and a wonderful member of your staff..Many thanks.
Sunday menu was really tasty, great value. Staff were very friendly. And the food came out quickly despite the restaurant being fully booked (which is a promising sign)! Lovely to sit outside, and eat and drink in the sun. Would recommend, it was ace!
I even not taste any food yet. I never been somewhere service bad like that. I’ve been this place without booking. When I arrived I ask for available table for 3 people 2 Thai lady 1 English guy. I’ve got a table. After 3 minutes waiter told as to move the table because has 8 people booked . Yeah we do after 5 min with new table i can see few people try talk sometime waiter then her cone back to my table again and said ‘’can you move back because this table have a booking from the owner this place’’ with the people who talk with waiter look at me same like I steal table from her. if you can hear that you could’ve stayed there or walk away? I’m really very upset. They try to keep regular customer. No walk in. For the first time and forever.

We deliberately didn't take lunch with is as we know that's not allowed! Went to cafe which was all open, signs out, etc decided what to have and then was, quite rudely, told kitchen was shut! At 2.30pm??!! No explanation, no alternative. Very poor!! Would not recommend or return!!
Went to Bench for the first time for a drink so didn't try the food. My friend however did order the chicken wings that looked a "little rare" for my liking, though he was in work the next day so probably just my preference.
Beer selection was alright, you'll be paying £5-£6 a pint so make sure the designated driver, At £4 a glass of coke you might want to stick to the water.
Overall a pleasant, quirky experience with a beer garden and inside dining.
Unfortunately, not up to it's usual standard. One Sunday roast beef dinner and one lamb dinner. My husband couldn't chew the beef it was so tough. He did mention this when a staff member asked if everything had been alright. My lamb was tasteless. Probably stick with the usual evening/ lunch menu in the future, which we we usually have.
Visited for Sunday lunch whilst staying in Chester for a half term break and we were not disappointed. The food was amazing and the manager went above and beyond after I queried a dish on the menu due to an allergy.
Portion sizes are good, the food hot and tasty and the atmosphere even on a Sunday lunchtime good. There was a real mix of ages and people celebrating lots of different things as well as each other.
A place we will definitely be returning to on our next visit to Chester and a place we can definitely recommend.
