We visit Southport to see relatives and the Westminster Tearooms is the absolute highlight of any trip to town (and we never tell our in laws that we pop in for a snack)We love the whole experience; the decor, the way the tables are laid, all of the lovely silver and, above all, the delightful staff.I had the scone with jam and cream and my other half had the Welsh rarebit - both beautifully presented and very tasty. The tea was lovely too. This is a real experience and gives a sense of times gone by, an absolute gem.Thank you

We had no expectations before our visit. We enjoyed it very much. The food in both our courses was uncomplicated but very well presented and delicious. It was Saturday lunch time. The front of house staff were efficient, attentive and friendly. We were made to feel welcome. If we return to Southport, a place in steep decline, the Westminster will our priority.

We popped in for a hot drink, but were tempted by the scones too, which were excellent, and were served on a beautiful tiered cake stand with butter, cream and jam. The options for full afternoon tea with sandwiches and cakes looked fabulous, and we would have ordered that if we had not eaten lunch so recently. Will definitely go back another time for the full experience - this is the way afternoon tea SHOULD be done!

Met friends for a day out in Southport and we were looking for somewhere to have lunch and spotted Westminster Tea Rooms. What a stroke of luck! The experience is rather like stepping back in time to a bygone era. Wood panelled walls, waitresses in smart black and white uniforms, china tea cups, gleaming tea pots (with real tea and a tea strainer!), crisp linen napkins - everything just so. Even some 1940's music playing softly in the background. My friend and I opted for the all day breakfast, whilst our wives chose the fish pie and ham salad. After a short wait our meals arrived, beautifully presented and plentiful. The food was absolutely delicious, as confirmed by our empty plates at the end.

So refreshing to have a meal or afternoon tea in such surroundings. I had a delicious and generous coronation chicken wrap and it was nice to bring an out of town friend to a place which isn’t run of the mill. The cheerful staff work so hard, much appreciated. As someone upthread stated, it could do with a little freshening up (not updating!) I’m not sure if it’s the carpet, but there is always a slightly musty scent on the premises.I think a new carpet, in keeping, would make this place perfection.

This was the first time visiting Southport visiting from Birmingham. I came across this beautiful tea room because I really fancied afternoon tea. And what a tea room. I loved the old fashioned decor and the old time music. Now let's talk about the afternoon tea. The best afternoon tea I've had and such a reasonable price. The cherry scones were baked fresh u could tell. The mini cakes beautiful. The sandwiches omg amazing. You could tell the quality of the produce. My partner had the steak baguette and said it was the best baguette he had. If u in Southport this tea room is really worth the visit. I can't wait to go back and visit this tea room again. And the staff are amazing. The gentleman who served me was so lovely. Really love this tea room.

Visited for lunch today. Its a beautiful old fashioned tea room with staff dressed very smartly. Served tea promptly with a beautiful silver tea pot and milk jug and a lovely china cup. The staff were very friendly. Got a shock when the meals came. The portions were huge. I had ham egg and chips and peas. The peas were in a separate dish and there was a huge side salad on the plate which I felt was unnecessary. Yes I know it is a ridiculous thing to complain about! The food was delicious, especially the chips, just about ate half of the food and left feeling full. Will definitely return but would just order a snack next time.

Entering the tea rooms is like stepping back in time, wood panelled walls, chandeliers, interesting lamps and ornaments and old time music. On being seated we were given menus. The choice is very extensive with a wide variety of breakfast options available all day, sandwiches, wraps, toasties, soup, salads, main meals and afternoon tea. Several of the dishes can be made as a vegetarian option and a vegan section is also on the menu.Three of us were eating and opted for cheese sandwich and chips, breakfast omlette and a vegetarian version of coronation chicken in a wrap with side of chips. Two coffees and one tea. The cappachino failed to deliver as it looked the same as the flat white. The food!!! The coronation wrap came with a small side salad and coleslaw. It was wonderful. I don't usually get much choice due to being very fussy with food so it was fantastic to try something different for a change and I loved it. The chips for one would have fed all three of us. My friends omlette was basically all the breakfast items in an omlette which came with thin sliced potatoes. She declared it was the best omlette she had EVER eaten. Stuffed and very happy is the word. Our bill came to £39 so not the cheapest but worth every penny. Well done Westminster tea rooms. One point to note it is CASH or cheque only, which meant us scambling around to get enough cash.

We have been eating here regularly since our retirement 13 years ago. We loved the choice of food in the past - in fact, spoilt for choice. However, it's a while since we visited due to health issues. Visited today. The two young gentleman waiters were extremely polite & attentive & the meal arrived quickly. But I couldn't find my bacon/chicken salad on the menu, so I had scampi etc. My husband had (often eaten) steak & kidney pie. But what disappointed us most were the chips. They used to be chunky, but now we found they were thin & rather greasy. Are they "frozen" ? Also, the decor has started to look a bit "tired". Has there been a change of management or are they cutting corners.

I have written and re-written this review several time and the only way to truly say this is:To the owners and management of this establishment I implore you to please disregard a review I know is coming your way. This review regards another customer you had this evening who I feel has been extremely petty. They complained first that their black pudding wasn’t cook well which I contest definitely was, from my position I was dark and crispy, secondly that their eggs were over cooked which when asked if they would like fresh cooking they stated at least one, the chef kindly cooked two fresh eggs which once again from my position they were perfect, you could literally see the yolk giggling as your patient and kind waitress carried them over to then be barked at that she wanted “the white to be hard and the yolk soft” this could not be a more adept description of the two sets of eggs this customer had received. To top this whole encounter of this rude customer then stated that your chef should go back to cooking school. If this person is to leave a review on here I hope they read this and understand this is no way to speak to or about a person and I suggest that you search for and attend a school regarding manners and etiquette. To also leave a note on the table saying you will be leaving a review is appalling (yes, I saw you writing that out disgraceful).I cannot sing the praises of this establishment enough, the food is lovely, real home cooking ant the staff always make you feel welcome, I am proud to return time and time again.Thank you for reading my ramblings and taking what I have into consideration.

This place has some very beautiful afternoon tea sets on the plater at good prices. My visit with the family we sat down to an 2 course experience. 2 of us had Welsh rarebit with bacon, very tasty and filling. Only thing I could be critical about that rarebit mix could be smoother and golden brown too, but was enjoyable. My partner had egg and ham which looked great with lovely homemade chips, mother in law had all day breakfast which was excellent. Good quality sausage and bacon made it. For afters we all had scones with the works fabulous indeed.Customer service side of the extra was slow, not much check backs to see if you were ok, tables left untidy and other customers not getting attention needed. From the moment you walk through the door you cant be help but be impressed. A ceiling draped with the chandeliers the pre war art decor look gives you a great feeling of nostalga. The staff were very polite and extremely well dressed in black and white. Their was a great menu to choose from to suit all tastes, including vegetarian dishes. However, i opted for my favourite Sunday roast, and it was amazing, more meat than I've ever seen on a plate before (good quality). The whole dining experience was nothing more that divine. For good measure we had breakfast the following day, and that was the same high quality.

our third visit here and the food as always was excellent. we attended with a friend and also our young baby, who came quite fractious due to the long wait clearing the table between courses.....pudding was however worth the wait. sunday lunch is excellent. I'm veggie and the nut roast was great. my family and friend enjoyed the meat options and we all loved the organic wine and puddings. 4 stars this time due to service issues but we will return again for sure.

The Westminster Tea Rooms have more vegan options than most vegan restaurants, and the food is outstanding. I have been a few times with my partner and the food is incredible. They off so many things that it's actually quite overwhelming, with the Duchess afternoon tea option being the most extravagant. A full dessert menu with cakes, scones tarts and ice cream. Main meals like vegan shepherds pie and lasagna and a full sandwich menu. Just make sure that you are hungry because the portions are big!Everyone should try the lapsang souchong tea because they brew it perfectly.I love this place. Just make sure to take plenty of cash, as it's cash only and take the time to enjoy your afternoon there.

Can’t fault this lovely tea rooms, for a lunch or main meal, wheelchair friendly space to fold and store or use at the table. The Service and food brilliant. Gets busy but worth a wait unfortunately you can’t book a table and they don’t take card payments but certainly wouldn’t put me off going again.

The whole experience was most enjoyable. Would definately recommend a visit. Be warned though, they do not accept card payments, only cash or cheque.

These tea rooms are lovely as they let you enter a time gone by with wonderful cutlery and plates and waiters dressed in old fashioned tearoom uniforms. The food is delicious, with a great selection of home backed cakes and the choice of menu is extensive especially for vegetarians and vegans which is a great bonus. The staff are very attentive and the ambience is great.

I love this place it's old fashioned feel is so atmospheric the decor, the Crockery silver coffee and tea pots and most of all the music takes you back in time to the tea rooms of the early 20th century,it's so relaxing.Although we only had sandwiches for lunch they were lovely, fresh bread lots of filling and they have different blends of tea too including their own which was very nice, the staff are very friendly too all in all a lovely and tasty experience. It looks like they do a very nice afternoon tea too

I last visited just under two years ago with my cousin and today I visited with my husband. He had a full English breakfast and I had ham eggs and chips. Both were very good. The staff were pleasant and helpful too. There are just a few things to point out , they didn't spoil the food but they did let the tea room down a little. There were several crumbs and a black mark on the table cloth - the main one and not the small square one that is replaced after each customer, there was quite a bit of dust on the shelving behind us. We couldn't help notice as we were looking around talking about the decor and there was a very odd smell in our drinking glasses. Nevertheless the food was good (hence the "very good" rating) and I liked the background music too.

My partner and I visited your tea rooms on Thursday 28 March for afternoon tea. I requested decaffeinated tea. When the tea was brought to our table I specifically checked with the waitress that the tea was decaff to which she said yes. It came to light that evening/night that the tea was most certainly NOT decaffeinated. I am particularly sensitive to caffeine and was awake literally all night. The next day was my birthday and this was spoiled as I felt terrible not having had a wink of sleep all night. I have twice contacted you via your website but have not had a response. You seem to pride yourselves for catering for allergies but you most certainly did not cater for mine! Fortunately my allergy is not life threatening (I’d dread to think what would have happened if it was!) but your lack of care in catering for allergies is extremely worrying to say the least!

The atmosphere in the Westminster tea rooms is calm. The staff are so helpful and never rush you. It's something you would find in a miss marple novel or even a Poirot novel. As you sit there eating one of their meals or afternoon tea (which is excellent by the way), your transported back to a forgotten time in which everything was different than today. I love this place and have been loads of times and would recommend it to anyone who wants to have a meal or a snack in a relatively quiet environment.

Found this a few years back now and always return for lunch when in Southport. Service is second to none with all the quaintness of an old world tea room. We tend to go for a hot light lunch like poached eggs on toast with salad, always done beautiful, wish i could do poached eggs like that. You can have tea and cake if preferred in old chinaware. The only downside to this place is that they do not accept card payments no problem for us oldies who always carry a little cash but young ones could come unstuck if they order before they see the signs dotted around explaining the fact.

Fresh white damask table cloths. Fresh flowers on every table. Crystal chandeliers. A joy to dine here.

Food is excellent fresh home cooking, everything from soups to roasts and afternoon teas looked amazing so will try next visit. I love love the rice pudding. Atmosphere is lovely with old fashioned clock chiming away and soft lighting and chandeliers. If you want relaxed courteous dining go here, if u want fast crap food go to Mcds. BTW only take cash or cheques but it does remind u on the door so shouldn't be a surprise. Will be back soon ❤️

Had a lovely lunch here with one of my besties. Really good varied menu with lots of different teas and artisan coffees available. I opted for a vegan main meal called The Greengrocer, which is a type of anti-pasta, my friend the salmon salad. Both meals were huge portions and totally delicious. After a good natter we then decided on some gluten free lemon drizzle cake, which was yummy. The Tea Rooms are in an art deco style with white tablecloths and everything is served on bone china. 1930’s style music plays in the background. The staff were very helpful, looking smart in their black and white uniforms and service was prompt. I would highly recommend this Tea Room for either breakfast, light bites, main meals or afternoon tea (they all looked delicious). A word of warning they don’t take bookings (so get there early) or cards, cash only.
