Nice place and people but ALL of the real ales have a musty after taste. They need to clean their pipes and lines. Also it's such a shame they removed a lot of the character and history of the place when they removed the old beer vats, that people could sit inside.

AVOID!! This is possibly the worst cafe I have ever been in. As someone previously noted, you can’t see in from the outside so you’ve no idea what you’ve committed to. The building itself is quaint, 17th century. We sat at the window. The window sill was covered in cobwebs. We ordered the afternoon tea which came with shop bought cakes one of the chocolate buns (cupcake would be an exaggeration) was mouldy. When we pointed this out to the owner there was no apology just a look of disdain. She returned with a strawberry one instead “just in case”. There is an abundance of eateries in Kendal - this venue should be considered a last resort!!

Great Indian food. There is a variety of foods so all tastes should be catered for. The only disappointment was that they close too early to have dinner there.

Ok, now it’s a bit confusing here as there’s two The Station Inn TripAdvisor profiles/categories here as one shows up in hotels and the other one for their restaurant and food bit? This particular review I’ll call it *part one* is my reviewing of the restaurant and the evening meal/food side of things served up in the pub/restaurant section of The Station Inn. We’d booked into the B&B part of The Station Inn but I’ll give that part a separate review as *part two*. The Station Inn part itself was rammed to the rafters which did come as a bit of a surprise for a Thursday night as I’d presumed an outskirts of town Inn and B&B would be far more touristy and not a drinking spot for the locals but ah well, fair enough, business is business and it was the prelude to the Bank Holiday Easter weekend. Two adults, two teenage boys and two dogs found their reserved table with the humans looking to get fed. I ordered us in some drinks and then suggested everyone give the young chap waiting our table their choice of starters and main courses rather than a tired old me have to remember and order in the lot. I’d originally chosen the black pudding fritters starter but apparently these weren’t available? So, I opted for the Scotch Egg instead, yet this came with pieces of black pudding served in a whisky sauce? Hmmm ok? There was black pudding for the Scotch egg but no black pudding for the black pudding fritters themselves? This black pudding saga would continue at breakfast in *part 2* The Scotch egg was very good though, borderline excellent. Everyone else chose their respective starters, and there was no further issues there, thankfully. For mains I went for the trio of sausage which to be fair was very nice, the sausages themselves tip-top and flavoursome served up with a nice mashed potato plus I’d ordered in a side of chunky chips to bolster things up a bit, but that tiny portion of extra chips certainly wasn’t worth the £3.25 charged. My good lady had a chicken sizzler which looked amazing and it did actually sizzle whilst the twin lads had both picked the steak and onion pie. Everyone reported back to me they were happy enough with their meals, but I’d clocked the vegetables the lads were served up. One plate had mostly cauliflower plated up on it and the other mainly had broccoli rather than them both getting a 50/50 of each vegetable portion (See the photos) Come on, I know it can be pretty hectic during food service but some basic attention to detail here, having cheffed myself many years ago in much busier venues, I can safely say that I never made such trivial schoolboy errors! The Station Inn pub and restaurant bit itself, yeah, it was pretty good, clean, tidy and very busy, the poor bar/serving staff looked like they were getting run-ragged but remained smily, helpful and pleasant, the food itself was fine, and other than a couple of trivial errors regarding food and drink served I was happy enough, I’ll not go into great detail into my 0% Heineken served with a small Birra Moretti glass when I wanted it all served up as a pint of shandy…haha ah nevermind, anyways, we all gave the desserts a miss!
