Somos locales y no habíamos estado en mucho tiempo. La nueva configuración es mucho mejor que antes. Nos impresionó la comida y el servicio. Se cometió un error con nuestra parte, pero obtuvimos un reembolso y una bebida gratis como disculpa. El gerente de servicio fue muy honesto y se disculpó. Definitivamente lo recomendaremos y volveremos. ¡Gracias!

This restaurant has improved immensely since a new catering manager took over last year. Sensibly, a limited menu which means all dishes cooked fresh. Great pizzas too. Very good value for money and prompt service.

Decidimos agregar a nuestras entradas de cine y aprovechar el Real Deal, una relación calidad-precio fantástica. Todo el personal era amable y servicial, la comida era deliciosa, bien preparada y caliente. Decidió que esto debería convertirse en una salida nocturna normal. Visit here often for food, drinks and gigs. The new menu in the Vats bar and Restaurant is great and its nice to see some guest beers on tap too now that its a Free House. I believe the bar is under new management and the changes have made a huge improvement and the food is the best its ever been. Alabama Chicken is incredible! Staff are always helpful and attentive.One small tip for improvement would be for the staff to bring cutlery out with the food. To have your food arrive and then go on the hunt for cutlery takes the shine off an otherwise great dining/drinking experience (Or have the staff remind you at the point of order to help yourself to cutlery)Will be back soon to try more of the new menu :-)

Tuesday 4th June After a couple of bad experiences in the past I was happy to return to the re designed vats bar. The pizzas have improved a lot along with the service and coffee! I have to congratulate the young woman on the bar seeming to handle running the bar, delivering food, making coffees and answering questions from seemingly awkward (and slightly rude) customers. Overall a good experience

I called for a drink on a Monday evening to find it was a well attended quiz night. There was still plenty of space for non participating customers and finding a table was not a problem. There was a large selection of drinks available to be consumed in very pleasant surroundings. I didn't eat so can't comment on the food. Overall my visit was a pleasant experience and I would definitely recommend a visit to Vats Bar.

Habíamos reservado para ver una película aquí y como estábamos temprano decidimos tener algo de comida. Desafortunadamente, no pudimos entrar al restaurante, aunque no importó ya que el mismo menú se sirve prácticamente en el bar.Habíamos pedido un par de G & T's (Lake's Gin es tan bueno)! También pedimos dos hamburguesas que venían con patatas fritas. ¡GUAUU! ! Con toda honestidad no puedo recordar la última vez que comí una hamburguesa tan buena. Cada bocado estaba lleno de sabor, realmente era increíble y estaba bien de precio. Completamente fresco y delicioso hasta el final! !

stopped off for a cheeky pint while buying tickets for an event and ended up being there all afternoon. Great atmosphere, great beer and beats any Wetherspoons or chain pubs.

Un grupo de nosotros fuimos a comer pizza antes de una película, dos de nosotros pidiendo el piri piri, ¡sin embargo mis amigos piri piri nunca llegaron! La camarera fue muy agradable y regresó a la cocina para preguntar por la cena de mis amigos. . . Solo para regresar con la oferta de media hora de espera en una pizza que pedimos hace una hora. Teníamos prisa y mi amigo tenía hambre, de nuevo la camarera regresó y dijo que podíamos obtener un reembolso y una bebida gratis, no lo suficientemente buena. Regresó a la cocina y logró conseguirnos una porción de papas fritas. Normalmente no reviso lugares, pero había escuchado que el servicio en el bar Vats había mejorado mucho y me sentía mal por la camarera ya que estaba claramente en una posición incómoda, sin embargo, esto no es lo suficientemente bueno.

Great locationwithin this centre. The reputation is better than the reality. Food served.Its basic at high prices for what it is.

niet veel keus, burgers of pizza's..maar heel verrassend want dit was de beste pizza die ik ooit gegeten heb. Ik ben niet een groot pizzaliefhebber, maar deze was echt erg lekker, verse ingredienten, kortom top. Locatie prima, niet eeg gezellig, maar wel vriendelijk personeel en schoon.

Located within the Brewery Arts Centre, a spacious open layout with a long well staffed bar.

The refurbished bar is a bright and pleasant space and the food is very good. Chicken thighs were very tender and served with a tasty - if slightly bland - garlic mayonnaise. The hand cooked chunky chips were excellent. Delicious ice cream. The service is OK on the whole. Good value.

We called in to have a look at refurbishment and enjoy a pint of Stella. Ordered at bar and told barrel needed changing. Bar person returned. Obvious something was amiss as they took money and said would bring out shortly. Sat outside dirty plates on tables. 10 minutes later getting restless. Eventually drinks came not worth the wait. It was flat and didn't taste like Stella. My husband agreed. We came up with just put some other brand in a Stella glass. As this is all we drink we know our Stella. Should have sent back. Lack of atmosphere. Won't be returning at £4.40 at least get it right.

We visited for a quick lunch on a Sunday lunchtime. Staff didn't seem to have much of an idea of what they were doing. I ordered food to be told that one of the platters was not available: no problem, we just chose another one. However, when the food arrived, the unavailable platter magically appeared along with the replacement platter.

Came to Kendal on a grinder date, haven't been in years since i moved to Whitehaven. I got invited on a grinder date by a strapping young man called George. What can i say, great food, great atmosphere and great company! What started as nibbles and pleasantries soon blossomed into several rounds of shots and a wonderful evening. Only downside is the slightly steep prices, however i can thank Mr Gordon for getting the rounds in and charming my socks off! Brilliant night and venue!

Somewhat pretentious and full of strange "arty types". If that is your thing you will like it. Otherwise try lots of other good cafes/bars in Kendal. It is rather expensive. Has a decent sized car park, but that is not free

Mi novia y yo decidimos viajar a Kendal para un día con nada planeado. Utilizamos Trip Advisor para poder ver lo que nos rodea para comida y encontramos Cubas Bar! Desde Manchester, fue ocupado refrescante ver un sitio como Cubas. La vista fue épica, la comida era incluso mejor y el personal era muy amable! Se lo recomendaría a cualquiera que viaje a Kendal y buscando comida! 10 / 10

El bar cubas es un lugar encantador y normalmente me visita antes de un concierto o ver una película. La comida era normal, tenía la base, los huéspedes podrán disfrutar de la pizza no era de mi gusto y el queso por encima tenía una textura gruesa/polvo (puede ser de la base de pizza floury) Este botín la pizza para mí. El dulce estaba delicioso, tenía un maravilloso cubierto de profiteroles con salsa de chocolate, posiblemente la más maravillosa salsa de chocolate que he probado.

Always a good and varying selection of real ales. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The pizzas are well known to locals, and are really excellent. There's a larger room to eat in, and also plenty of outdoor seating in good weather.

Es un gran lugar para comer cuando nos visite Kendal - a menudo reunirse con familia, incluso tenía mi 80 cumpleaños de mi padre hacer allí.

This is a lively place, with seating carved out of massive beer barrels, comfy sofas and massive oak beams. Situated next to the Grainstore Restaurant, you can order from the main menu and enjoy the rather more informal bar atmosphere. A great meeting place before a film or gig and always buzzing. Food options include freshly made pizzas and excellent tapas. Not particularly cheap, but the quality is good and the young staff are pleasant and work very hard.

I was working in Kendal and had an evening to entertain myself so booked for a film and went to Vats Bar first. Service was very friendly. Pizza I thought was excellent. Glass of house red was very quaffable. I liked the surroundings which are conducive to a relaxed meal.

A lovely, casual bar which was very busy with locals on a Monday night. There is a decent range of drinks though they are a little on the pricey side. The food, and especially the pizza, is very good. I had a spicy pizza which was crispy, smothered in toppings and delicious. The steak stack and cheese pizza went down well with my friends. The staff are friendly although service was a little on the slow side. Very pleasant atmosphere and a nice change from the more traditional Lakeland experience.

I recommend eating hear before the films starts, I come and had a pizza and a drink all good to me I nearly had all pizzas on menu now all are good and not to bad for the cost to so yes go eat hear

Busy place but a great atmosphere & you didn't have to wait long for your food. The steak stack was excellent & beer prices were competitive. I was meeting two schoolmates from forty years back so with everything else it made for a great evening.

Been a few times and it's really good the steak stack is always really good and really enjoy the sharing dishes , the staff are always nice and polite would recommend .

We are in the Grainstore, there was a varied menu focusing on good local produce. Eat it as tapas or as mains, it offers an unusual selection of dishes.The pizza has a local reputation for bring top quality.Our beef stack, pulled pork, greens, traditional & sweet potato chips were well cooked, flavoured and good portions. I wish I'd asked for a large plate to put the food on (that's down to me)The service was friendly and efficient. The locations is right by the art centre, cinema, bar and there is an area outside to relax

Your sure to be spoilt for choice wether your an art lover or cinema goer or just like chilling together over a pitza and glass of something. No matter how hot or cold outside your sure of a warm or chill-out welcome among the many venues within it's inviting facade.

Ate here on Saturday evening after the cinema both my husband & I had pizza & they were fantastic the staff were friendly polite & very helpful had a couple of drinks afterwards all in all a great evening will definitely eat here again

Simply put .... THE best surf and turf we have ever had . The steak was absolutely beautiful , cooked to perfection , the presentation as well was lovely . The staff are a credit to the bar , friendly , speedy and well informed ( Re the Real ales ) a lovely place to eat and the atmosphere was great . ( 4pm Saturday) kids goujons and tortilla chips were delicious too .Overall a 10/10 experience and highly recommended ! Also I tasted THE best ale I've ever tasted ... three Hops !! In warm and fine weather we ate out on the terrace while all around us music lovers spilled out from the concert room during an interval and people strolled in and out of the restaurant, some eating in some eating or drinking out. A very casual laid back atmosphere. The range of beers was good, the range of arts activities very broad, with some impressive names, and the pizza was OK too.

On Wednesday I attended the opening night of the Addams Family a production by students at Kendal College. Before that I has a very nice pizza with pepperoni and chorizo in the lovely and warm beer garden. The pizza was good, would have been good with a sprinkling of Parmesan, but that aside it was demolished in minutes and the show was amazing!

Super pizzas and love the tapas. The slides I had this time were AMAZING. We all love it here. A firm family favourite.

Been here years ago and was lovely.This time, disappointed. Food was ok. Service was dreadful. Took ages to get served, for some reason different staff had to take our food and drink orders separate. We were randomly handed our bill without asking for it, before they'd even cleared our plates or asked if we wanted dessert! Would think they wanted rid of us. Won't return. Shame we didn't look at the reviews first as seems we weren't the only ones,

Being a local I took an old friend to the Vats for dinner, but the pizzas had gone down terribly from the ones they used to serve. Looked like a blob of clay and tasted nearly as tough. What happened to the old thin crust style served on those generous plates? Puddings excellent as always and service very amiable.

We went to see a movie and then booked to have Pizza, we thought the prices were good and to be honest the pizza was fine too, but the service dear oh dear, the staff just look like they could not care less, the person who was in the restaurant when we arrived signalled to us which table to sit at by throwing 5 menu,s on to said table and walking off, I asked are we sitting here pointing to the table ?? "Yep" was the reply, the staff don't seem to enjoy their job at all and I would think some customer service training would not go amiss. There is no energy in the place, I'm not sure I would rush back .

We often come to the Brewery Arts' Centre because of the great atmosphere and range of food and drink. Sadly, we've waited for over an hour for our dinner only to find that the order was lost. The good news is that we've been given a discount for the delay, so we will be back! Shame they can't sort their systems out.

Well... There's not much I can write about the vats bar without sounding thoroughly enthusiastic. Firstly the food was not only prompt but exquisite and just to my taste. Next the service saw above our expectations, im particular Emilie Mason who was a polite, young lady who took care of our needs. Overall we felt satisfied, happy and definitely not hungry. Thank you to Emilie and the Brewery team, you really did fill a hole in our stomach. See you soon, hopefully.

I have visited here a few times before films and have always had good experiences. It can get busy so it is best to book in advance. The food is great value for money and the portion sizes are good. Pizzas are tasty but sometimes have too much cheese on. I would recommend the vats bar to my friends

Went for a meal before a visit to the cinema, there was no meal deal available, nobody to greet us and show us to a table and the wine deal advertised on a card on the table was also unavailable on a Sunday too.I had pizza which was good to be honest but the service was lack lustre with no call back and little interest in making it a pleasant hour or so.My wife had a salad which again was OK but there was no dressing available for her as she has gluten intolerance.It would have been nice to finish off with a sweet but they don't do sweets either on a Sunday, which prevented us from ordering a coffee too.Not surprising the place was empty.Been here before and had similar issues, it's about time there was some serious staff training on hospitality and a rethink about the availability of products.

Having experienced a number of relatively quiet pubs in Kendal, we were surprised to find that this one was particularly busy early on a Wednesday evening. Some of the trade came from customers of the attached cinemas, particularly families who had been to see the Shaun the Sheep movie, followed by groups of ladies arriving for drinks prior to viewing 50 Shades of Grey. However I think that the main reason it's popular is that it gives customers what they want: decent food and drink in pleasant surroundings at reasonable prices. Interesting range of beers too.

I come here often with both friends and family. Recently me and a friend tries the pizza and a movie deal which we were very impressed with for the price. Always a warm atmosphere, and very reasonably priced tasty food.

We went with friends and was really impressed, food good and tasty, ordered quite a few taster style dishes between us and it filled us well, they do gorgeous pizzas too. We like eating tapas style and this was a good place for that. exceeded expectations. You can sit out in good weather, go up the steps for good views across the gardens and over the town. Lively place on a weekend.

Visited to see Eric and ern. Great show. The brewery is a great place with loads going on for all the family. The menu choice is limited so did not eat there this time. Did have drinks and was shocked to pay over £20 for four drinks.

We love it here. Funky, different zoned areas of seating. Great selection of tapas, which have always been tasty and fresh.Really good selection of drinks, local ale's changed regularly.Beautiful decor, feels really cosy. The outside seating is brilliant too, with lovely views.I cannot recommend this place enough, something for everyone.The whole complex is fantastic, please go and check it out.

I've been a loyal fan of the pizza's at the Vats Bar for years. Their 'Mediterranean Feast' was the best vegetarian pizza I've ever had by far - and often beloved by non-veggies too. Unfortunately recently the once great pizza selection has been reduced to a very uninspiring menu particularly for veggies. And even the meat eating friends I was there with last week weren't impressed. The Mozarella and Tomato pizza comprised a couple of sliced tomatoes, a scattering of olives, some small pieces of mozzarella and a drizzle of balsamic. Very bland and overpriced at £8.50.I commented to the bar staff about the loss of the Mediterranean Feast from the menu and they said 'yes, we've had lots of complaints about that'. So, how about listening to your customers? I won't be eating pizza there again. Will just have to concentrate on the beer!

Visited at lunchtime with some friends. Ordered a pizza off the lunch menu. There are quite a few options to choose from. Friendly service at the bar. Plenty of seating available.

An excellent meal. Informal dining area rather like being in someones home. Good selection of beers and surprisingly unusual and tasty meals. Would recommend for a good bite to eat early evening. We will certainly return when passing through Kendal again.

The pizzas were really tasty but drinks are a ridiculous price. I would definitely eat there again but don't think I would order wine! Excellent service and friendly staff. On the whole an enjoyable meal.

A place my friends and I return to again and again because of the great atmosphere, wide selection of drinks and good food at reasonable prices. The pizzas served in the bar area are a particular favourite and the lunch time specials offer exceptional value. In addition to the informal bar area, there is a more formal dining room, which takes bookings. This is also one of the few places in Kendal with outdoor seating too, for those, ever so rare, sunny days! And if you are lucky enough to get a table at the top of the garden steps, there are lovely views over Kendal to the castle.

Visited here for the first time on a work's night out.We sat in one of the huge vats, hence the name, and this was quirky and comforable.I had a pizza, and I have to say, it was probably one of the best pizza's I have eaten. Lots of topping and hand made, absolutely lovely.The bar staff were all very friendly... I shall return.

We have eaten in the Vats bar many times and it can be quite hit and miss. The pizzas are always good, the lunchtime salads have also been good. The tapas is a more tricky animal!We've tried a variety of the tapas and some have been tasty others have been utterly bland. Yesterday we tried the surf and turf and the cous cous salad. The steak in the surf and turf was well cooked and tender, but utterly tasteless, it came with a smoked aioli which was ok in itself but didn't work with the steak - perhaps it's just me but dipping steak in mayo doesn't quite work. The prawns came with shell on (which the menu didn't say) and they were not good. Out of 6 prawns we only managed to successfully peel 2, the others dissolved into mush with an odd grey tinge about them which utterly put us off eating any more. The cous cous salad was nice (quite spicy which the menu also didn't say) I asked for feta cheese to be added to it which made it a little more substantial (I knew it was only a small dish as it was only £4.50) which they did no problem. In the past we've tried the coconut chicken goujons which have varied from being quite tasty, to so chewy they were inedible.

Literally. you can sit in an old barrel which has got a round bench and table in it. Lovely beer, didn't try the food here but theres a great Thai restaurant just across the road.

Good food, somewhere a bit different - an interesting venue with atmosphere. Really good when it's not too busy or food gets delayed for some random reason. Definitely worth considering if going to a film or concert at The Brewery Arts Centre — or somewhere nice to sit outside with a drink if the weather's good.

We were going to a concert at the Brewery Arts centre and decided to eat before hand. We couldn't get into the restaurant as it was packed, but we fancied eating outside anyway, so that worked well, and we could order food from the menu at the bar.Good job we got there early as there is a lot of space, but not many tables and chairs. They could get loads more in.Great food choices on the menu, drink was a touch on the expensive side - £9.80 for a red wine and a lager.We both had a pizza, beautifully cooked with nice toppings. Good vegetarian options which was nice to see.The only downside was a silly little boy waiter who had a paddy and plopped the food he was carrying on a wall while shouting at another waiter to "sort it out, I'm too busy to do this" (He couldn't find which table it was for). It was silly and made him look very unprofessional.The other minor point would be to put more people on the bar, there was just two but people waiting to be served were mounting up and getting impatient.Would definitely consider eating here again if visiting the centre, but would allow plenty of time.

Yes the Vats Bar is the best in town, but hey Kendal has a huge selection of sad pubs ... Vats is part of the Brewery Arts Centre and is popular with people going there for live music or a film. Vats always has a great selection of real ales, and they do really good pizzas too.

we were meeting friends we had not seen for a while and thought as they could park here this was a good place to meet. It was about 4pm and not many people in the bar but as our previous visits the staff looked disinterested and my husband had to interrupt them. needless to say we didn't stay as planned we went to the wine bar and our custom seemed welcome

We'd eaten here last October and liked it enough to call back the next day for lunch before leaving for home. Made a special trip from Doncaster and stayed in Kendal to eat here again. The Vats restaurant was fully booked all spare tables reserved. However the waiters informed us that one was booked for 8pm so it was available for a good hour which suited us as we were off to the pictures. Naively I expected to have the same food as October but as the food is fresh and seasonal it was different. However all the food was excellent we had olives hake and salmon tapas to share followed by pizza washed down with a couple of pints (I do love the 3 x 1/3 of a pint to try for £3.10). Keep up the good food and excellent customer service. We will be coming back all the way from Doncaster but will make sure we can eat her more than once next visit and book a table thanks again.

Came in last night and ordered warm butternut salad with lentils - it was delicious although I was a bit disappointed their were no salad leaves and a large proportion of cherry toms that I had to pic out, leaving my 'salad' a little sparse. I asked for some salad leaves and was told abruptly that 'salad leaves not on the description' so the bar person couldn't help me ( all with a slightly smug expression on her face ). I had to inform her that cherry toms weren't in the description but I've had to pic 7 or 8 off my plate so I would like some salad leaves? She reluctantly said she would she what she could do. To me, that should have been the problem solved but I then had to re-tell my issue all over again to some else before eventually receiving my salad leaves. I don't really see what the big issue was? I've waited on for years and if a customer wants something, they should get it, and it shouldn't be a problem - certainly shouldn't have to deal with the Spanish Inquisition. I would like to say that the meal was delicious and I also had squid and king prawns which were full of flavour.

Booked the Arts Centre as we were staying in Kendal for the weekend and had eaten there before. We weren't disappointed, the food was great and the atmosphere was warm and friendlyWe had the Beef Stack with chips and it was delicious. The waiting staff were very good, we will definitely be back.

Pre-cinema diners quickly fill the main, Grainstore restaurant. However, dishes from the same menu can be ordered in the adjacent Vats Bar. I have had mixed experiences with the newish tapas menu, but on this occasion, the minced chicken and cheese croquettes were fine and the cheese board not bad at all, albeit a bit limited in choice. The room is, however, geared more towards drink than food and the service is lacklustre, if reasonably quick. Convenient rather than exceptional.

The Brewery Arts Centre's Vats Bar looks great and the food is good. There's a reasonable selection of real ales and a nice feel to the place. It's just a pity the service is so poor. Our pizzas were delivered to the wrong table and the young woman on the bar ignored my request for no ice in a rum and coke. Sadly these are not isolated incidents but the vibe of the place means I keep going back.

Unhelpful unfriendly,continually "texting" behind the bar staff,warm beer served from pipeline that'd been in there for 18 hours,unkempt,not very clean surroundings.Opened 10 minutes later than advertised and meant we then couldn't eat prior to the cinema advertised start (that too was 20 minutes late in starting!).You have been warned!!

This is a lively place, that everyone seems to flock to in Kendal. we were lucky to get a table in one on of the large old barrels! really! which was novel and comfortably private, for such a busy place. It was a great place to enjoy a drink after a wonderful meal across the road at the jintana thai.

We stopped here for a late bite to eat. It very much reminds me of the student union bar when I was at university. The service was about that standard - where the bar staff were more interested with flirting with each other than interacting with customers. The atmosphere was also very weird - like a university bar.However, the worst bit was the food. I had a weird duck and bacon salad. Now, until this meal, I thought bacon could only improve a dish. Well, this dish proved that theory wrong. They are both fatty meats with strong flavours that do not complement each other. I find this is really sad because it's obviously a community undertaking. I like the concept behind it, and hope that they have a relook at how it is executed.

Drove through to Kendal to spend time with family who were camping near by. Vats had been recommended by friends and we thought we would give it a go. The first thing I noticed was that the childrens menu was not really suitable for children under 5, and we had a toddler with us. That being said, he happily ate my pizza and some chips. The pizza was nice, but I hardly think that it was worth the price. When it came to ordering dessert (which took a lot longer than expected to make), there was obviously some kind of mix up at the till, as what we had ordered did not arrive! First thing that came was 2 of the 2 cheese platters, when we only ordered one, then 1 of the summer fruits/chocolate plate arrived, we ordered 3. When we pointed the mistake out to the waitress that there had been a mix up, she was a lot less that helpful. My Uncle had ordered a 2 cheese platter, not 2 cheese platterS, but all the could tell us was 'Well we don't call it that', and as we pointed out - it's called a 2 cheese platter on the menu, and it probably states the same on the till. Obviously the next problem of only 1 of the 3 summer fruit/chocolate plates had been made and brought to us, however, the waitress - who quite clearly did not receive any training in customer service, turned her back on us and walked away. All it would have taken was 'Sorry about the mix up, I'll rectify the problem straight away', but instead she attempted to argue her way out of it, and then clearly couldn't be bothered to do her job & so walked away from us. Luckily, the two children's desserts arrived with no problem. Food was lovely overall, but maybe teach the staff some basic skills in how to treat paying customers.

Con piacere abbiamo scoperto questo Centro nella città di Kendall durante una serata di pioggia. Il posto è molto carino, proprio a lato di una delle vie principali. L'edificio, molto grande, ospita vari spazi, caffè cinema, teatro, ristorante. Si può stare in un bello spazio all'aperto, cosa che non ci è stato possibile fare a causa della pioggia. Tutte e le due sere in cui abbiamo mangiato qui siamo stati molto bene. Il locale contiene un grande banco per la birra e le bevande e altre grandi sale per mangiare, decorate con gusto e in maniera molto allegra. L'illuminazione rende intimo il locale e piacevole e rilassante l'atmosfera. Abbiamo mangiato bene, c'è una bella scelta di piatti e di birre. Il personale, tutto molto giovane, è stato sempre molto gentile ed efficiente. Se passate per Kendal andateci senza pensarci un attimo.

Always been quirky and unique ambiance but now the food matches up with superb quality fusion Tapas. The pulled duck with bacon and quinoa / pomegranate salad with a side order of spicy wedges was superb. The service can sometimes be a little hit and miss but was quick and friendly particularly as served outside in the hidden gardens. Sensational!

A very nice area with comfortable seating very relaxing nice to meet friends or before you are going to a show or the cinema.

Went with friends for early evening meal. Sat outside in the sun. Service was fast and friendly. I had the small duck dish and it was lush. Jug of pimms very well priced.

Food and Beer both excellent a pick and mix menu to suit all pallets (red wine a tad warm, suggest chill a litle on hot days)

We ate here after visiting the Brewery Theatre. We liked how you could order small dishes to share. It was far more preferable than eating in some of the pubs in Kendal and less expensive than the restaurants. You didn t feel the need to be 'dressed up'.

If you've not eaten recently upstairs at the Brewery I strongly recommend you give it another go. Six of us dined there last night and ordered a variety of dishes from the Tapas menu. All were excellent, my particular favourite being the pulled duck, and provide an interesting alternative to the pizzas.The restuarant area has now been partially integrated with the bar area which gives it a livelier atmosphere.However, the most notable improvement since our last visit was the service. Friendly, timely and accurate. Getting 15 or 16 small dishes to the table at the same time, all hot, is no mean feat but they managed it superbly.

I really enjoyed my evening in the Vats Bar whilst visiting Kendal and staying at the adjacent Kendal Hostel. Staff were very friendly, helpful and flexible.They have a good selection of wines and beers, including guest ales. Food was reasonably priced and whilst not gourmet, certainly can't be faulted. I especially like the way many of their dishes are available to order as a half-portion tapas-style starter or as a larger main or starter to share.Ambience is good too, no loud music and tables are arranged in a way that makes it easier to mingle.Definitely will call again.

Myself and my wife ate here Easter Monday evening both had differant pizzas both were excellent.Atmoshere was good staff very friendly.

We were let down with a booking we had made at another restaurant and the Arts centre was recommended. What a lovely surprise, a warm and friendly atmosphere with very professional young waiters.We had the prawns and salmon as starters and the steak stack with chips as our main course. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced.We will recommend this restaurant and definitely return. Well done.

Wanted to eat here before going in for a concert. Only table available was too high with the low lounge type chairs. That aside, the food was good and arrived quickly. Staff pleasant. Would eat here again, but would think ahead and book a table in the resteraunt. Same food with much better seating.

We arrived in plenty of time before a gig without reserving a table and sadly the restaurant was already fully booked. However the adjacent bar was serving a varied choice of food, and despite it being busy we found somewhere to sit......our choices arrived reasonably quickly, and the quality of the fare on offer was superb. Loads of different pizzas and standard 'pub grub' to choose from, and I would personally recommend the skewered fish with rice. A good choice of real ales and really friendly bar staff. Overall, a great place for pre-concert refreshment (the rest of the bars and pubs in Kendal town centre all seemed to be lacking atmosphere even on Thursdays and Fridays). The town of Kendal is lucky to have such a venue.

one of the places you wish you could take back home. The Brewer Arts Centre is a theatre, cinema and so much more. The Vats Bar is part of this great arts complex, a bar with a restaurant. Seating is comfortable - some inside a sort of giant wooden barrel to give a snug private space. Real ale is available too. Why can't all cinemas be like this?

Superb atmosphere, food exellent and variety great, wonderful local beer on tap and enjoyed with gusto!

More a restaurant than a bar. The menu is fun and things are given imaginative names. The food is dependably good, although not too fancy. It's the sort of place where anyone could happily choose a main course that would suit them to a T.The service is great here and the tables well spaced. Also clean! It's not refined enough for a proposal, but there's a definite restaurant atmosphere!Best thing on the menu: Their thin Italian pizzas!

Several guest ales, lovely atmosphere. Didn't eat this time, but pizzas very good. Beer well kept, much improved from previous years, excellent range.

Went to see a band. Arrived half an hour before band likely to come on. Go to Vats Bar to get a drink. One and a half bar staff on. Wait 10 mins. As about to get served the last of the bitters (3) runs out. Go to Malt Room bar. 2 staff on, despite there being a band on, you never know, maybe someone would like a drink, surely not! No where near being served after 10mins, but all the bitter runs out. Go to the third bar. Wait ages, finally have to get a bottle of beer off the top shelf myself (asked by bar staff to do this). Mean while band has started. To make matters worse, see someone I know is a manager there and complain and get told that he is on his night off, can I complain to him when he is back at work in the morning. Well you know what, it is my night off and as a punter I am paying you wages!
