Pizza Express in South Lakeland

Server was not confident with ordering process and took a long time to sort the food and drink order. Waited an hour for food with no one stopping to check if we needed more drinks and when we finally got someone to stop they said they noticed awhile ago that there was 'a hitch in the kitchen' but would be a further half an hour. When we explained we were on a timeline they didn't seem to care and continued. We assume the lack of confidence with the order process resulted in it not being placed and was not picked up on until an hour passed. Food came out and was very hot, it's a shame we had to eat so quick as it was lovely When asked for the reciept we were handed the wrong one. No comps were offered just bill put down and expected to pay. A poor first impression.

I arrived at 16:45 on a Saturday afternoon without a reservation and the place was absolutely dead but I was quite brusquely told that they couldn't fit me in (I'm one person) because they had soooooo many reservations. Disappointing and made me feel a bit paranoid to be honest. Probably didn't like the look of me or felt it wasn't worth it for one person.

Extremely disappointed with the experience here today, especially when we arrived we were the second table occupied in the restaurant.

A nice place to eat. Family friendly. Service is great and the atmosphere too.

Was hard to tell when we’d get the delivery as the time was constantly changing, then wouldn’t update when they were here. Food was delicious but cold

I never thought I'd be giving a bad review to pizza express but I've had this pizza twice recently and both times it was stone cold and both times its barely had any cheese on it! It was like eating a cold soggy bit of cardboard with veg on it, truly the absolute worst pizza I've ever eaten! You are supposed to be a high quality pizzeria but today I could have had a shop bought frozen pizza that would have been nicer than yours!

Our normal cafe was closed when we arrived in Kendal so we walked around and found the branch of pizza express. My wife is Coeliac and requires a gluten free diet so, when we asked about this we were very pleasantly surprised to find they had a full understanding of gluten free and had lots of gluten free items on the menu. The service was excellent from the start as was the food , even with items altered to make them gluten free. Definitely a restaurant we will return to thanks to the wonderful staff.

The food was good when it arrived. The service was awful. Had to wait 15 minutes before we were notice. We placed our order and then had to wait 40 mins for our food to arrive. By this stage my granddaughter was absolutely starving.

Came with a group of 6 and had amazing pizzas off the new menu, all cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Saule was a brilliant host and will 100% be back

Fast and friendly service. Does exactly what it says on the tin. Food and wine both very satisfactory. A pleasant lunch on a quiet wet Monday, or a busy Friday evening. Sometimes a bit packed here in the evening or weekend lunchtimes, but still a comfortable atmosphere.

Delicious pizza, great service and conveniently located in the heart of Kendal. Definitely worthwhile downloading the Pizza Express app as they often reward members.

Arrived about 5pm,when the restaurant was quiet.Service was very slow,and the Pizzas were undercooked.Not the best experience,so won't be returning

It's a shame because this restaurant does serve good quality food, but both deliveries have been terrible. Luke warm soggy pizza and lukewarm soggy sides. If they're too busy they should decline orders - because it ends up giving a bad experience. I waited over an hour for food which isn't crispy or hot at all.

Ordered a takeaway and had the complete wrong pizza (goats cheese) absolutely impossible to get hold of anybody to rectify it despite 20+ phone attempts to the restaurant. I would avoid at all costs and won’t be eating from Pizza Express again

The delivery was late, the wrong pizza was delivered and dips weren’t even half full. We rang the restuarant multiple times to resend the pizza we paid for, but they wouldn’t answer We ended up out of pocket having to buy two dinners. Don’t bother ordering from here. Terrible customer service.

AVOID. Order two simple pizzas from here and they can completely messed up the order sending goats cheese pizzas. Absolutely impossible to get hold of afterwards despite 20+ attempted calls. Shocking customer service, I advise to everybody that you do not order from here and I will certainly be avoiding the chain again.

Had a really lovely meal. Food was amazing and I love that I can stuff my face even though I’m gluten free. Our waiter Lucy was really helpful and efficient. I’ve heard a rumour that you’re moving to app ordering. I hate this idea. Please don’t.

Delivery time was changed after ordering, was over 1 hour late, pizza was stone cold and had different toppings to what was ordered

I went with my family and i had dough balls which were very good probably the best dough balls ive ever had! Then i had a garlic pizza which was good and thats not on the menu and we asked for it and they did it which was very nice of them. The garlic pizza was good but as it started to get colder the cheese gets harder so i would recommend eating it quick! Then i had the ultimate chocolate fudge cake which was very good but it was cold and wasnt like the picture online instead it was white chocolate in the middle,but they did say new recipe. Overall a 4/5 😊

4pm on a Monday in the Christmas Hols…So disappointing…quiet restaurant…4 tables in…4 staff…lots of dirty tables that wouldn’t take a moment to be cleared and set…2 of us and turned away. Wouldn’t even seat us when we were prepared to wait for a pizza. I didn’t hard to understand how they couldn’t accommodate us unless they literally didn’t want to and were simply wanting to get prepped for the evening period. Not a great business model especially with the economy around hospitality. Not cool. Not caring. Oh dear…

Shocking! Food was cold and had to be sent back and then wait for them to be redone. A number of meals on the menu weren't available which was disappointing.

Had a mix up with our order not being put in, the staff were amazing when they realised and quickly sorted the issue and were incredibly kind and helpful! Food was delicious and the staff coped so well with how busy it was.

Very nice experience but very disappointed that pizza express have stopped doing vegetarian pepperoni. This is my favourite pizza to get and was very let down to see that it is no longer on the menu.

We had booked a table for 10 and had pre-ordered our pizza as requested. We had an extremely long wait - over an hour- before the pizzas were served, and one was missing so that person had to eat her pizza after everyone else had finished. The staff were really friendly and helpful but my impression was that the restaurant had crammed in too many tables and that the number of diners had become impossible to cope with. It was noisy and too hot. The food was delicious, so that was good.

We come to Pizza Express almost weekly at this point. Our little boy is 5, autistic, and non-verbal. The food he likes can be very specific, and Pizza Express in Kendal always makes exactly what he loves—a Margherita with a BBQ base, Romana style, extra crispy. We always ask for the back table by the window, and we always get it. Restaurants can be overwhelming, but he loves the Pizza Express experience! Thank you for being so kind and accommodating.

I recently went to Pizza Express and had a fantastic cannelloni my friend had a pizza American hottest which was very tasty and well cooked! The service at the Kendal restaurant is brilliant, there is always a lovely welcome,quick service and a smile! They all seem to enjoy their work! Excellent!

We've been coming to pizza express for many years and it's still a good option for a family meal out. The pizzas are tasty and the dough balls remain a hit with the kids. This restaurant is a good size and you can usually get a table.

Base was nice but a little blackened for my liking, otherwise a nice pizza. The potato dipping things were not very warm and served with a miserly amount of sauce - not value for money; won’t be having them again. Certainly will try another pizza as long as it’s not burned as otherwise the base would have been really nice,

We visited for our son’s 8th birthday with family. The team were really friendly, happy for us to bring a balloon & cake, and all sang happy birthday. Really impressed with the team and service. Many thanks ☺️

Pizza night with the grandchildren. Matt the waiter was brilliant with the kids, food was amazing.

Got a table for 6 without reservation. When ordering a member of the group, he asked to change pizzia. They gave him the previous one but corrected this and gave him the right one. When getting the receipt they only put 3 three course meal deals on, when mentioning this to them and asking if they could add the other three course meal deals, the staffs response was they couldn't redo it and the people without the deal on the receipt had to download the app to get the deals.

Pizza Express was very busy when I went to order a take away. That is usually a good sign. Service was impeccable and the pizzas were very tasty - thank you 🙂

My twins had their birthday party here. Staff were very well organised, interacted with all the children and made the party easy for me. Was a very enjoyable experience for all. Would recommend.

We ordered for it to be delivered at 7:15pm. Food started being prepared by the restaurant at 7:10pm and that a courier was at the restaurant. I rung the restaurant at 7:50pm to find out where it was. Gave the order number and he said it had “literally just left”. App didn’t update until 8pm and then the courier delivered between 8:05-8:10pm. Appreciate that they were busy on a Friday night but maybe they should have turned off their orders for this app.

I have been coming to this pizza express for many years and due to the brands awareness of allergies I have been to many others across the country. In my personal opinion this is my favourite pizza express in the country. They always have lovely and clearly motivated staff and the food is always cooked and prepared to a very high standard. We are always very impressed with the staff and their friendliness and chattiness is certainly an influencing factor on our loyalty over the years. There are probably too many staff to name all of the ones who have made our meals extra special but currently Lizzy and Sam are real stand outs and we are always especially excited when we find out they are serving us. All of the staff should be very proud of the unmatched atmosphere and culture they have fostered in Kendal’s pizza express

The receptionist didn’t allow us to sit inside the restaurant, she said hotel is not allowing to Asian people she is so racist

We called in for a slightly early lunch, it was very quiet and service was quick and friendly. The food was good, we both opted for pasta dishes and enjoyed them.

Order didn’t arrive, placed the order three times through just eat and Pizza Express directly. Order has now been delivered to the wrong address after waiting in for the delivery, and spending over 2 hours trying to actually place the order. The customer service from Pizza Express is disgusting the manage is the rudest person I’ve spoken to. And then Just eat are just as useless.

Hi, had lunch at your restaurant today Wednesday 5th Sept. With my wife. Food was good as always But l have a couple of issues, the gentleman serving us ( who l believe was the manager ). He was very untidy with stains on his T-shirt and The fly on his trousers were not zipped up properly And he seemed to be very distracted. And he did Not have an apron on, whilst serving food. And his general demeanor was strange. On paying our bill he said, that we should put Receipt for lunch on our fridge when we went Home. I humoured him but thought it was a very Strange comment.

We booked a table and were seated fairly promptly. Our order was taken quicky and questions answered about the three course meal. The waitress was very friendly, helpful and attentive. The food was delicious and arrived in good time. When we came to pay, we couldn't add the three course meal to the bill on the Pizza Express app. The manager came to tell us the Romana pizzas we'd chosen were not on the deal even though we'd already asked about this when ordering. Mistakes happen but I expected to pay what I'd been told. The manager reduced the cost to 'the best he could do'... We left having overpaid. Sadly, we won't be returning in a hurry.

Food was suppose to be here for 7.25pm and didn't get here till 8.10pm. Plus the food was stone cold when it got here, and the dough sticks were also rock hard.

We ate here early on a Saturday evening, four adults and two children under 5. Food was good, exactly what we expect from Pizza Express and definitely up to the usual standard. Very good for kids, three course children's menu was quite cheap and felt good value. Provided crayons and colouring activity to keep them busy and manager gave them some pizza dough to play with. Messy but they enjoyed it. Service was a bit slow and not perfect, did take a long time to make the pizzas but they tasted great. The staff were working very hard and doing their best, but seemed a bit uncoordinated and struggling to keep up with everything. Overall staff need some training and probably do need some more staff, but happy enough to go back again.

No Service, waited at table 15 minutes and nobody came to take order, so we left - no good enough

Over the years we have enjoyed many meals at Pizza Express Kendal, always finding it a busy place with really good service and reliable nice food. Unfortunately this was not what we encountered yesterday (Saturday evening). We had booked a table, which wasn’t ready when we arrived but this wouldn’t normally bother us, we fully appreciate that these things happen and can’t be helped. However, looking around the restaurant there were several tables which needed to be cleared, one or two wouldn’t bother us, but a pile of dirty pots and left over food on the next table to us was not great. We ordered our food, one of the pasta dishes was luke warm and reluctantly we sent it to be heated up. By the time it arrived back the rest of us had finished our main courses and another member of staff came to ask if we had enjoyed our meal and came to tidy away our plates ! The staff were very slow and not coordinated at all. We ordered deserts, the chocolate fudge cake was cold and solid but the plate it was in was very hot ! By this time we had had enough so didn’t bother sending it back. We came to pay and queried the Pizza Express 3 course deal which is detailed at the top of the menu. The staff didn’t appear to know how to access the deal or be able to provide any information , until they got a very helpful lady from the pizza making area to come and explain and help. I have never left a restaurant without leaving a good tip but unfortunately I did on this occasion. Maybe we visited on a bad day but I cannot recommend that others visit.

This Pizza Express is ran by people who actually care about their customers. I've dined here many times and will continue to do so because they are so nice.

I don't know the name of the lovely lady who was manager this evening (August 8th 9pm) but she was welcoming, helpful and frighteningly efficient. The kind of person who seems to know exactly what needs doing with her eyes closed whilst multitasking. A lovely experience, thank you. .

We had a fabulous meal this evening. We hadn't booked but they found room for us. Sam was particularly helpful and a real breath of fresh air. Chatty and engaging. Highly recommend this restaurant. They were clearly under staffed and rushed off their feet but did an amazing job. Couldn't fault anything. Hats off to the Manager too.

We booked on the app a day in advance which we would recommend, especially during the summer holidays. They were fully booked and very busy. Food was excellent as to be expected when visiting any pizza express. The staff were lovely and very attentive despite being rushed off their feet and preparing for a large booking. They were very apologetic for any time we had to wait as a result of the busyness. Would 100% go again if visiting Kendal.

Fab staff and meal. Brought my granddaughter, as she love the 3 course meal. The girl that served us had long red hair was amazing. The only think that spoiled it was the rude, loud customer complaining about kids meal. Anna was so welcoming for our visit today! After a long day of travel to Kendal, a good meal was needed and we chose Pizza Express. We would like to thank Anna on her amazing service and being so kind and friendly with us throughout our meal and making sure everything was perfect for us. Only prices stated on the kids menu were for a 3 course meal (£7.95) or main only "for the really little ones" (£4.35) and for drinks. No prices were provided for deserts or starters. There was only one option for a kids starter (dough balls), and we didn't explicitly ask for them but assumed they would come with, particularly as the waitress didn't ask or 'up-sell'. The kids' dough balls didn't come out with the meal, but we didn't really notice about it at the time. When the bill came the kids mains, drinks and derserts were individually priced and came to way more than the £7.95 meal deal. When I questioned it, I was initially told it was becuase "its the weekend". When I pointed out that the menus didn't give any other pricing, she went away and upon return stated it was because we didn't have the starters. They did eventually agree to add the doughballs to our order to apply the meal deal price, but it took several minutes of debate.

Fab place, the staff are amazing. The manager with long red hair is amazing. Unfortunately there are some rude customers. Who need to read the offers on the kids menu before being rude and loud. The staff were really helpful to them, but the customer were still rude. 😢. Definitely recommend this place

We have been coming to your restaurant for nearly 10 years, Last night was the last time, the way the manager treated us was awful, he was rude, he tried to over charge us, he ignored us .. the food was great as always

Went here as a party of 4 on a Wednesday early evening in early July. The food was great and the restaurant is a very pleasant place to eat. Initially the service was good but as the place filled up they seemed to forget about us. Had to ask to order desserts and waited too long for the bill to be brought and then more time before we could pay. Overall a good experience but service could have been a little more attentive given we spent over £160.

My pasta isn't cooked and the pesto isn't green, tastes bad

Visited as part of a big group and the staff were all really welcoming and accommodating. Food was lovely!

The pizzas arrived 90 minutes after ordering, a half hour late. Unfortunately, both had no heat whatsoever. We often order from dominoes in the same town and they’re always hot so it’s not the distance. Maybe the pizzas were sat around or on a delivery round with many stops? It was worth a try but we won’t be ordering pizza express takeaway again.

Second time we've been to this Pizza Express. This time was a good experience. Good food, good waitress service. Lots of smiles from staff.

It's a pizza express, we had lovely pizzas in a clean contemporary setting. Which is what you expect.

Busy bank holiday weekend and the staff were helpful and friendly. Michael served us and was great! Good quality food and nice atmosphere, lovely setting in Kendal.
