New Fortune Chinese Take-Away in South Lakeland

Regrettably, I recently tried the satay chicken at this restaurant, and it had a mushy, slimy texture, no firmness in the meat unlike anything I've ever experienced. Despite being a longtime patron without prior issues, this meal compelled me to reconsider my five-star review. The egg fried rice was all mashed, and chicken balls were very oily. I suggest to the owners to make swift improvements.

A good Chinese for me would recommend

We called to make an order and it took about 20 minutes for the items we requested to be cooked and prepped for pick up. Despite it being cold weather, the items were packed nicely and warm by the time they arrived back home. It is a pity that delivery isn't possible as it would be convenient for a lot of people who desire Chinese Food but that may be not possible because at the moment it is cash in hand upon pick up. I am happy with the duck with mushroom and noodles as they are delicious. They didn't add the vegetables that normally come with my noodles as requested. My partner enjoyed his salt & pepper chicken with rice. We both agreed that the food at this place is fresh and much better than the Chinese across the street Beijing House as the food we ate there were dry and bland especially the duck & chicken. I would definitely buy Chinese from here again.

Bought Salt and Pepper Chicken w/chips, and my partner got Mushroom Fried Rice, and Veggie Rolls. Very pleased with how crunchy and soft in the the middle the chips and chicken were. Very tasty, and went down a treat! Very moreish. My partner likes their meal as well. I don't often go to Chinese takeaway spots, but when I do, they're usually questionable quality, but I didn't find that here! The service was helpful and prompt. I will definitely be coming back again!

We visited again based on our last review from Feb 2023! 😂 Was as amazing as last time! Thank you 😊 Can still pay BACs. Ordered the salt n pepper box and special fried rice. Plenty for 3 of us who eat alot! Still a little bit left over too!

Good chinese takeaway just outside to centre, hot quick service and fairly priced.

Some of the best Chinese takeaway food we'd ever eaten. Only in Kendal for 4 nights but the food was so good we went twice. The lady at the counter was friendly and very efficient. Loved it!

Whilst staying the weekend in Kendal, we visited this take away after looking at the reviews online we chose this chinese. We were genuinely surprised at the food. The food was very nice and ideal for a takeaway. Food was hot and 1 meal, 3 sides and a sauce was plenty for 2 people. All tasted freshly made and very tasty. This place doesn't look like much from the outside, but I'd recommend trying it.

I have nothing bad to say about this Chinese; it was really tasty! Just wanting to be helpful to anyone else from out the area like us who is also a Chinese fanatic and particular about it! The salt n pepper chips are quite spicy! They weren’t “chippy chips” they are like fries. Not my favourite type but still very tasty and were nice for a change! The salt n pepper chicken was really good and tasty! Again quite spicy. The special fried rice was AMAZING!!! would definitely recommend. Also, other reviews say that it’s cash only but you can actually pay by BACS too. Hubby said was really easy to find to as a visitor staying at the travelodge on the bypass road. Would definitely recommend to other visitors to the area.

I’ve always been a patron of another very nearby takeout but my goodness, I will never go anywhere else! The closet to authenticity I have had since travelling east. Bursting with flavour, delicate balance and perfectly seasoned dishes. As it should be. Very friendly and humble service! A diamond of a find! 🐇

We tried this takeaway as we’re staying in Kendal for a few nights - all of the food was really good, and had decent flavour - we had pork chow mein, Tasty Fried Rice, crispy shredded chilli beef and some chicken balls - The crispy shredded chilli beef was one of the best I’ve had - the sauce was amazing! Would definitely recommend this Chinese

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! UNHYGIENIC WITH HAIR IN FOOD!!! Found a hair in our food so was told to return it with the food which I did. Staff argued it was not theirs and refused to give a full refund. In response the guy shouted at me to get out of the shop I was extremely embarrassed. This is a Chinese my daughter regular uses because to be fair there’s not much choice! I imagine if I was a man the guy would not have raised his voice to me. It was so out of order and uncalled for. Also cash only? Really? Will NEVER go there for food again. Appalling attitude and mediocre mgm food

Good flavours. Sweet and sour chicken was a little on the sour side, but still very tasty. Special Kung Po was delicious. Beef with ginger and onions was very nice. Egg fried rice was tasty and large portions. Crispy won tons could have been larger individually, but there were a lot of them per portion so it was all good! 5 people cost £47, with spring rolls, won tons and prawn crackers as sides.

We were staying locally on holiday and fancied a Chinese so decided to give New Fortune a try! A friendly lady behind the counter served me and told me it would be about 15 minutes… so we wandered around the block, went into Bargain Booze next door for some drinks to go with our meal to kill time. Popped back in to collect the Chinese bang on time and travelled 15 minutes back to our lodge where the food was still piping hot & was absolutely delicious! We had…. Sweet & Sour chicken balls, chicken fried rice, chicken chow mein and a portion of salt & pepper chips! We will definitely be coming back!

Great Chinese take away!! Portions are large, service was fast, food was fresh and tasty what more can you ask for? :). Just a FYI, its cash only.

Absolutely wonderful set meal. Freshly-cooked, fresh ingredients, authentic flavours, great portions and a very reasonable price. The whole meal was great but the salt and pepper king prawns were to die for. We'll be back.

Immense food, got the munchy box and should have just had that! Spicy but not too much, crispy shredded chilli beef was probably best I've ever had. Almost a jam consistency and so flavourful.

Great Chinese, very good value for money. The salt & pepper munchy box could easily feed 2-4 people by itself. The crispy chilli beef was also great. We got free prawn crackers and fortune cookies with our large £47 order.

Great dishes that didn't scrimp on the meat or prawns go for the Tasty Rice

Stayed locally and wanted some quick food. Great big menu very reasonably priced and food was lovely with quick collection times.

I used this chinese tonight and got 2 salt and pepper boxes..Singapore rice noodles..ribs in sauce and sweet and sour chicken and it was the best takeaway iv had in a long time..noodles spiced perfectly, great variety in the salt and pepper boxes and the ribs were very good..nice sauce with good amount of meat..I was impressed and shall be using again!!

Blown away by how good that ‘Kung Po Beef’ was. Very impressed with everything ordered, and everyone very happy, but my ‘Kung Po Beef’ was outstanding. 10/10. Great value, quick service, and superb food. Can’t wait to return

Very picky about takeaways but New Fortune is easily the best Chinese we've had in years. Best in Kendal by a mile, so tasty and well cooked!

We have used this take away for a few years now. Always a steady flow of customers so call it in. And it only gets better in our opinion. Portions are a full plate +. The salt and pepper menu is amazing!!and the curry is the best for miles. And ive checked.. ♥

So we decided to try somewhere new and wow so glad we did, the food is just so tasty and if you try their salt and pepper box you won’t be disappointed! I have tried several dishes from here since it has reopened after COVID-19. The staff are friendly too which is always a bonus!

Asked a mate which one was the best Chinese takeaway in Kendal - he said New Fortune. So I ordered. Picked up food within 10 mins of phone order. Food was delicious and good value for money. Customer service was great. Only issue is they don't do delivery but apart from that was really good.

I ordered my Takeaway by Phone and went to collect it within the time I was told it would be ready, 20 minutes. I arrived exactly on time and my meal was ready on time as well, so a very good and prompt service. I returned to my home, 10 minutes away, to eat my meal, Sweet & Sour Chicken Balls, Mushroom Fried Rice and Chicken Noodle Soup. Everything was still quite hot, the soup was nice if a little plain (just Chicken & noodles no spring oinion). The Sweet & Sour sauce looked and tested more like BBQ Sauce and the battered chicken balls were a little undercooked and the Mushroom Fried Rice was a bit dry. The meal, which was pretty basic by choice, was pleasant enough, but certainly not the "best in Kendal". It was adequate and reasonably priced in my opinion.

Came across this takeaway by chance and it didn’t disappoint. Very friendly and welcoming. Food ready promptly and we had time to buy a bottle of wine in Bargain Booze next door. The portions were generous and free prawn crackers! Will definitely go again.
