Silver Mountain in South Lakeland

Good service but terrible food. So sad to say but chow mein was like jelly and none was fresh. Sad to say we actually put it in the bin and went to the Thai up the road. Would hate to see inside the kitchen.

This Chinese was the best in town … not been here for a while but tonight we had a takeaway… food was ok not brilliant like it was a year or so ago …. The new fortune over the road seems to be a lot tastier….

Been coming to Silver Mountain for a few years now. They are kind, helpful, and exceptionally accomodating. I have a taste for really crispy well done food and the staff here have gone above and beyond to the point of warning me if they are any crisper they will taste burnt 😊 Even when they are busy you receive excellent customer service. It's also nice to see a business trading cash only, you don't use it, you lose it folks! Thanks Silver Mountain! Jasmine (Well done BBQ Rib lady) ❤

Looked at the local takeaways in Kendal and had good reviews on TripAdvisor so decided to order before we went for a drink and was ready for the time we ordered it and really enjoyed our meals which were large and very tasty and filling

We were visiting Kendal and wanted a Chinese takeaway. It is always difficult to decide where to get it when you are not local. We chose this place due to the tripadvisor reviews and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent, very tasty and generous portions. We will definitely visit again!

Huge order for 14 people. Popped in early to order and asked if could be ready for 8.00pm, lady behind counter said 8.15pm and it was all ready for said time. Banquets very nice and good selection of mains to choose from. Portions huge so much so we had for tea next day, and still enjoyable. Would definitely recommend

We always use Silver Mountain in Kendal as it is excellent quality and the orders are always as we have ordered. We use them for party’s at home and also order for the lads at work when we are working night shift and everything is without complaint. Always receive free prawn crackers, spring rolls etc on large orders too, which is a nice touch. Shame they don’t deliver but,, you can’t have everything.

Friendly service, we used this takeaway twice on our visit to Kendal as the Singapore rice was so good.

Mmixed starter for 2 and prawn crackers. Egg foo young, sticky shredded sweet chilli chicken and kung po. Eith rice and chips. Loads of good quality tasty nosh just what we needed after an eight mile walk in windermere

Always best to order by phone as it’s always busy but a 40 minute wait is well worth it. Best Chinese since mr woks in Wiltshire 😀

Not used the takeaway before but not disappointed...had pork and chicken fried rice and bbq sauce and 1/4 crispy duck...free crackers included...portions are large, and not greasy at all. Was a 40m wait at 630 pm on Saturday night but as a previous reviewer said ..it’s worth the wait...would def use again .

sorry not the best we have had from there. duck in orange sauce was in pineapple sauce and not really nice rice was not nice at all, dissapoined

Ordered the menu for 3 people because we preferred the choices to the 2 person. Soup, spring rolls, ribs, 3 portions of special fried rice, 3 main dishes and prawn crackers. It was a 10 minute walk to collect the food, but it was still so hot we couldnt eat it immediately. Everything was really tasty and there was enough food for us to reheat for another two meals. Highly recommended, but be warned that their phone is incredibly busy and it took us ages to get through to place the order. Absolutely yummy!

Just finished our Chinese from here. Had the hot and sour soup which was very nice then the chicken curry with chips. You get a mountain of chips. Curry was nice plenty of chicken but as with other Chinese takeaways no mushrooms just onion and peas. Overall great value

We are new converts to this takeaway and haven't been disappointed. The staff are polite and friendly, the food is excellent and good value for money, with a large menu. The only negative is that, as many others obviously agree with us, it could be a good idea to pre-order as waits can be lengthy.

This is the first review I've written where I haven't actually tasted the fayre on offer, nor even been in and seen the location but they seemed hell bent on putting me and my partner off of buying a meal from them, so much so I'm motivated to tell others about it.

I always like to give restaurants / take aways a chance before I give up on them. The silver mountain had a couple of false starts with me, but have now grown to be my favourite Chinese in Kendal. I had Szechuan special, salt and pepper special and chips. They were all very good. It isn't perfect by any means but it is now a solid performer, and I will go there before any other in town unless they are closed.

As a local this is our favourite Chinese takeaway, food is always very good and always seems to be very busy which is always a good idea of how nice the food must be

Had a lovely meal from silver mountain tonight... both our meals were really tasty and with generous portion sizes and really good value for money... food was ready for collection 15 minutes after I phoned which is excellent,would definitely recommend.

We were staying in Kendal for the night and decided to plump for Chinese takeaway. Found the reviews for Silver Mountain and when we found the right road found what we thought was the right takeaway on the left hand side of the road. It was empty which always springs alarm bells. Then as we parked up we realised the Silver Mountain was in the right hand side of the road and thought it was definitely the right choice...busy = good! We were told it would be about twenty five minutes once we ordered and it was astonishing how busy this little takeaway was. Also couldn’t quite believe that their main meal prices inc chips or rice or for a nominal surcharge noodles or fried rice. The wait we were promised for food was just about spot on and after borrowing a couple of forks from a restaurant next door to our hotel we headed off to our room to eat. I had crispy shredded sweet and sour chicken and rice which was absolutely spot on perfect. Good amount of chicken and less veg which is how I like it - a lot of takeaways load the veg and then give minimal meat but not the case at Silver Moon. Hubby had crispy beef in sweet and chilli sauce and rice which he also said was pretty much perfect - only issue with his meal was that we ordered chips and they gave us rice. We also ordered ribs in peking sauce which neither of us were keen on but we felt it was perhaps the northern derivative as it was gravy loaded and we didn’t find them very pleasant tbh...just not our taste. So for value for money and good portions of flavourful food would definitely recommend. And the lady serving was very friendly even though she was rushed off her feet.

The food from this take away is of a great standard. The portions are generous and it is always consistent. For me the set menu not to my taste and more pancakes with crispy duck would be great. It gets very busy so phone early

I had a few takeaways from here while on holiday and was amazed at the quality and value of the food. All 3 meals i had were spot on. The meals were full of flavour and piping hot even after a short walk home. My favourite was the beef and peppers in black bean sauce and the chips were as good as i have had for a long time. Also excellent value for money and good size portions. Will be back next time i,m in the area. Would recommend phoning your order as they get very busy.

Hate writing this review. Have been a customer for many years. But after trying to order on the phone (which was put down) to then going in, we brought home our food for it to be cold. We live 5 minutes from town.

Excellent food. and great service. Takeaway orgnized perfect for pick up and re-heating if need be. the only thing missing is an online menu

Yo, mi esposa y nuestro pequeño perro había conducido desde la Isla de Skye, parando en Kendal para romper el viaje y después de un par de pintas llamamos a Silver Mountain para algunos mucho. Recibió una muy agradable educado señorita que dijo que podíamos llevar nuestro perro y luego tomó nuestra orden desde el menú abundante y señaló las ofertas especiales y los platos gratis teníamos derecho a. Pedimos Singapur, Fritos de arroz Vermicelli, salsa curry champiñones, ternera con salsa caliente de ajo y rollitos de primavera cocina cantonesa. Este llegó a 23 libras. 50 y venía con patatas fritas, arroz hervido y haber pasado más de veinte libras podría elegir otro aperitivo gratis. La comida fue preparado muy rápidamente y también nos dieron gratis pan de gambas. Llegamos a nuestro alojamiento y metido en uno de los mejores chinos tome escapadas que hemos tenido. Recomiendo este sitio donde comer con la comida excelente y grandes porciones. si estamos de vuelta en Kendal sin duda poner una noche aparte para llevar Silver Mountain.

Best Chinese in Kendal, it's always good, I tend to eat the same things but it's always superior to other local Chinese restaurants, pity they don't deliver.

Por desgracia, aunque hemos tenido muchos llevar desde aquí esta noche fue una comida para llevar bastante mediocres. Teníamos una hora larga espera para la comida, si nos lo habían dicho cuando ordene que hubiera hecho una decisión de esperar o no. Falta de comunicación no era buena. Mucha gente tener que esperar a pesar de que había pedido por teléfono y ha dado un tiempo a recoger.

This place offers great portion sizes on delicious food. Set menu for 3 will easily feed 4.Quick service and piping hot food.

Having used the takeaway across the road from this one for sometime we decided we'd have a change, due mostly to the other one failing to provide warm and fresh food taking there busyness for granted and slipping in standards, soggy grey tofu and odd taste, not forgetting this is a family treat.. so the silver mountain is quite unassuming to look at and isn't all singing and dancing but the food is lovely, fresh puffy tofu gallons of flavour and great value and good service, they don't deliver but it's worth the collection always hot always and always yum.

We had chow mein and crispy duck (both generous portions!) which were both good. Free spring rolls, too. The char Sui pork was good but I'm not sure I would order the chicken again - it wasn't really identifiable as chicken! The place was packed with locals which is a good sign. Payment is cash only, with mains ~£6

Always come here for Chinese, tasty and friendly staff, averagely priced, would recommend. No delivery service available which is a shame.

I've been using the Silver Mountain Chinese takeaway now for the past 25 years and have never been disappointed. In hail rain or snow when we decide to have a Chinese we only think of the Silver Mountain, ok when they have been closed we have used another takeaway but we always return.I ring up with our order (we keep a menu at home) he says "ok ready in 10 minutes" and I put my coat on and walk down, my wife warms the plates and I'm back in no time. The food is always nice and we share and try out new dishes all the time.What a wonderful service they provide for Kendal, well done Silver Mountain

I think the best chinise take away in Kendal by far. You need to be very hungery as the portions are massive.

Friendly service. Ready with 20 mins of calling, tasted fine maybe a bit too much satay sauce, free prawn crackers over £10. Likes the right money if possible

Saturday night takeaway, was really busy. Called up to order and arrived at time requested had to wait 20mins extra, will reiterate that they were really busy!! Worth the wait though, definitely recommend this place :)

I had a take-away from here once during the summer of 2014 on the basis of their good reviews. While the price was ok (had to pay cash, no cards accepted) and the service was certainly nothing to complain about the food was the worst I've had from any Chinese take-away.It was watery, had a very artificial taste and left me feeling a little odd for a few hours afterwards. A sure sign of really cheap ingredients and/or sauces.I had chicken with green pepper and black bean sauce, my wife had sweet and sour chicken. Both very common dishes which we have had often from other places.

We always buy the banquet for three with self-selected main meals - soup, mixed starters, prawn crakers, three mains, three special fried rice. The price is very good with enough food for dinner and lunch the next day.I would not say the quality is Excellent but it is certainly Good - Very Good and is more than satisfactory for the price paid.I think for value it is up there as one of the best takeaway meals in Kendal. If you want higher quality you can get if, but probably at double or even treble the price for what you get for your money here.Only Chinese takeaway I use in Kendal.

Asked for an explanation as to what the difference between a couple of dishes were and got a very stroppy 'I know but I can't explain it so I'm not going to bother' riiiiiiiight then, wheres the next Chinese as this one doesn't appear to want our custom!Certainly wasn't due to the lad not knowing much English, it was better than mine!

Had a takeaway from here yesterday and have to say it is one of the best I have had in a long time.also very fast service and reasonable price , the meat is very good quality .

Live locally and hadn't visited for a while so decided to try a take away. Ordered Chicken Curry, Fried Rice and Chips, then overheard a conversation saying "charge it the other way round with the rice and chips". Rearranging my order meant a 80p difference in price as f/r is more expensive than the chips. TOTAL SCAM!!!. Not a big amount but will add up over a night. The food O.M.G!!! curry was like water with three pieces of I think chicken supplemented with onion to padd it out. Meal was tasteless of very poor quality and got ripped off for 80p also. If you like Chinese food best go elsewhere!!!

Definitely the best chinese in kendal!! Food is fresh and not greasy like most chinese's in kendal and as for the other reviews that say the service is terrible well thats utter rubbish. This place can be very hectic and so you can sometimes feel rushed but that is only due to serving everyone quickly so you can get your food! If you get to know the man behind the counter he is a lovely person and always up for a chat. I always feel very welcome when I go In :)

Had a take away from here not nice at all !Very poor standard of Chinese cuisine. Kendal has far better Chinese takeaways than the silver mountain. The chow-main looked like a bucket of pig swill and didn't taste much better either we won't be going there again.

We have had a few takeaways from here and think that they are wonderful. Great portions amazing food and plenty to go around, plenty of value and quantity for your money. Will definitely order from here again :-)

The food was below par but not awful for the price however as already mentioned the man behind the counter made me want to cut my wrists , I have never met a more negative and miserable person in my entire life. It seems as tho he is trying to destroy the place single handed. Mediocre Chinese with awful service just avoid.

The male member of staff we encountered is the most obnoxious, unhelpful and miserable person we have ever come across. He seriously needs a personality transplant and to learn some manners. A simple 'hello' and 'goodbye' would have been nice! Instead we got a series of grunts, evil looks and the impression we were not welcome in the takeaway. The food itself is normally okay, but on this occasion the hot and spicy ribs were awful and not edible. I like my ribs to contain meat, these ribs were just lumps of fat. We will not be returning to the silver mountain ever again.

Got a take away.. male staff member was quite rude and abrupt.. food was not all that ! Grotty looking place.. but was the only place that appeared to be open.. I am still alive so food can't have been all that bad.

I have been going here for over 15 years and no chinese i have ever been too matches up to it!!A couple of times a chef change has been an issue but at the minute it has never been better as the chef is always happy to accept constructive criticism.

Last october my boyfriend and I purchased a take away including some hot and sour soup. An hour later I had food poisoning and was off work for two weeks resulting in loss of pay. I was seriously ill. I do not recommend this place to anyone, especially as there are many nice places to eat in Kendal.

I have never seen more choice on the menu, took me ages to make my decision and was not dissapointed, the food was great, service really quick and such a reasonable price - 2 starters 2 mains 1 dessert and 3 drinks = £40.00, will definately go back on our next visit.

I stumbled upon this little takeaway on a Saturday night, full of people waiting. When it was full on a Sunday night, I decided to try it. I can't speak for the meat dishes, but the vegetarian dishes were pretty bland *and* they didn't include chopsticks (is this just an American thing?) so I ended up eating with my fingers. However, I ate it from the top of Kendal castle ruins, overlooking the city at sunset, so the experience was spectacular, even if the food wasn't.

As a family we enjoy the the occasional takeaway. We have found that there is plenty of choice for us all and is excellent value for money. We have tried other places in town but they have never been to the same standard as Silver Mountain 10 out of 10 from us and thats why we are frequent visitor :)

Having worked in a high end Chinese restaurant, I can say that the quality of the food from here is the best in town.This is the only Chinese takeaway I will use in Kendal
