Jintana Thai Restaurant, Kendal in South Lakeland

From start to finish the staff were welcoming, it was a relaxed atmosphere and the food was delicious. So glad we chose here and not elsewhere, will definitely come back.

People were lovely, food not so much! Just come back from Thailand and fancied a pad krapow. We understand we aren’t in Thailand anymore and can’t get proper Thai food but as someone who knows the chefs are Thai I think they should try and keep the food to traditions. The pad krapow is a basil stir fry with rice and a fried egg on top, today we got watery pork with veg. I am not happy I spent money on this and I did not like it. I get that you cater to English people but I personally feel it should be more traditional and Thai. Definitely not Thai food. (If you look at the photos you can see the difference)

We were served by an exceptionally friendly lady. Service was quick and efficient. There is an extensive menu and the food is delicious. A lovely restaurant with a great ambiance.

Service, atmosphere and restaurant design are all good. But food was disappointing. Lacked the fresh, aromatic ingredients you expect from Thai food. Dishes a little on the sweet side- lacked that distinctive Thai taste. As others have said, rice portions are quite small. Overall would not recommend.

Great takeaway from Jintana tonight. Promptly delivered. Delicious prawn crackers. The ribs starter was divine. Very tasty pad Thai. Thank you

Best Chicken Satay Starter I’ve had in ages. We ate here a few days ago. We had the Satay to start which was delicious and I highly recommend it! I had the massamun curry and sticky rice, my companion had the ginger chicken stir fry. Both were delicious - though it is important you order one rice per person as the portions are not big enough to share. Some other reviews critique the service but we were very happy. (I suspect the critiques come from American guests - take note that it is not American style service and it is all the better for it! Left us alone for the most part but brought things quickly) Everything we ate was excellent. Would eat here again. 10/10 best Thai I’ve had in ages.

So disappointed. I've been a regular customer for over 15 years but I've lost trust in the quality of the food. Never do I leave my favourite dish but the last two visits the food has been a sloppy overcooked mess and the veg and tofu is far from even edable. My favourite pad Thai tastes disgusting. For this reason a few years ago I vowed not to get another meal from here but a year on I thought it was worth a try just incase it was a one off. Sadly it wasn't. My meal has gone in the bin. The sadest thing is jintans was the place that awoke my tastbuds to the fantastic Thai food I even organised a work events there and many family visits to show off the yummy food to family and friends but alas not anymore at one point I even new the staff by there names and they new us well. But since staff changes and lockdown the food is disgusting! £45 for 2 mains and 2 side! What a wasit of money. Such a shame

The service was good and the Thai duck red curry with jasmine rice was tasty and the sticky rice with mango and vanilla ice cream for dessert was great.

Good food, chair was a bit uncomfortable, The portion of the seafood platter was a bit small. Nice service from a young gentleman.

This restaurant has the best authentic Thai cuisine, we had the tom yam soup and pork belly with mixed veg, the Tom yam was especially good, also restaurant is run by a lovely Thai family excellent service.

Went here as a family of four last night. The food was actually lovely. The starter platter was immense and the mains pretty good as well. My issue was.... Which is an enormous issue.... I found two pieces of metal in my beef red Thai. The restaurant didn't manage this well at all and seemed more interested in getting the metal from me. They then offered me 20 percent off my meal which to be honest I was appalled at. The eventually removed my meal from the bill. Stuff happens. But this should and could have been managed better by the restaurant. I'll be honest it's totally put me off ever returning as I think it could have been a real problem if I ate these pieces of metal and again it was taken overally seriously by them in my opinion. Will obviously never return to this place again

This was an odd one as no Thai people appeared to be up front in the restaurant. Maybe they were cooking??!! The food was ok but not brilliant. A smile from the food servers wouldn't go amiss.

Tried calling back, wouldn’t pick up the phone, so we were left with 2 mains and 2 rice for over £50, 3 hours after we had ordered… Food itself was fine, we’d never tried Jintana so thought we’d give it a go, but in future will stick to making our own from the kits available at supermarkets, was about the same quality, and certainly not worth the cost. Won’t be ordering again, for Thai food in Kendal I’d much further recommend Bangkok 7.

Let's start with atmosphere and ambiance. The place is small but cozy. Chairs were a little uncomfortable but manageable. The swan napkins were a hit with Childers. The bathroom was neat and tidy. Bit take a way menu sticks on walls of toilet is the last things you can imagine there. Let's come to food and drinks. Starter hot and sour soup was good 👍Chicken satay was good too. But the chicken wings were disappointing. They was no different taste. Actually, they were taking like fish oil or crab, and they must be fried in the same oil. Fish cake also has a similar story, chewy, tasteless. In the main course, Mussammen curry was best with all thai flavors, but the green curry was simply blunt, less flavor. Phad Thai was ok to eat when they were warm, but immediately in 2 mins of time span they become unbeatable. I still don't understand how come someone fails at Phad Thai. Overall, drinks were good. Service was above average, and it must be a busy day for them. But I mentioned to them that out of 3 orders of Phad Thai, one came with less quantity. They refused. We just mentioned that it was not evan a complaint.

We went out for dinner with family on New year's eve,arrived 6:30 to find the restaurant full and the waiting staff already struggling to keep up. Ordered drinks which arrived quickly,but waited over an hour for our starters which were wrong but by this time we were too hungry to care, another long wait for our mains to arrive which were cold, asked for some cocktails,to be told there wasn't any tonight "as we haven't got any ice" The staff were great but just couldn't cope with the tables and orders, a real missed opportunity for this restaurant to shine when the other Thai restaurant in Kendal was closed.

I arrived with not much expectation. Left the place with my full tummy and a very full heart! The staff were so attentive and friendly we felt so welcomed. The food transported us back to Bangkok and their แกงป่า (Jungle curry) was so good and full of กระชาย. I was so impressed with their drunken noodles too 🔥 Highly recommended for everyone to try. We are Thai and we loved it!!!

Ate here with a group of friends before attending a concert at the Brewery Arts centre we all enjoyed it. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere with great staff. We ordered a selection of starters to share which were lovely the mains were nice and overall it was good value for money.

We were out for a birthday dinner, Saturday evening. Booked online - a seamless process - and arrived a bit early. No problem; we were seated immediately. Prompt but not rushed service; warm and friendly staff; excellent food (all 3 courses). It was an excellent evening. The only downside - and this is a small thing and not an issue in the end, was that on booking the conditions said that our table would need to be vacated 90 minutes after the booking time. When we were there it wasn't too busy so probably wouldn't have mattered if we hadn't finished within that time, but I did feel a little as though we had to watch the time.

Really tasty food and excellent service. Lots of great flavours and a nice vegetarian platter as a starter was a good shout too

We had a takeaway and the reviewer below is spot on. The food tastes OK but the portions are tiny and the prices are steep. For £12.50 I had a beef curry, maybe six small strips of beef in a watery sauce, and the rice portion was small too. If they addressed the portion sizes and cut the prices, I might want to go back. But for £16 you don't want to feel like you've not had a meal!

I called up this restaurant asked if could make any of the dishes vegan. Was told yes no problem. Turned up the booking, asked for the allergen menu. Placed the order flagging 'NO EGG' twice. Meal came with egg. This was really frustrating and didn't feel like the restaurant cared.

Had an evening meal here, service was good. Food however, not so great. The starter was cold, sesame prawn toast seemed as though it had been reheated. Meat was of very poor quality. On a more positive note the Thai green curry was lovely. Probably wouldn’t go back.

Staff were kind and attentive and we felt our experience was exceptional. The food was presented well and tasted delicious. All staff were welcoming and helpful. Definitely authentic and we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience.

We often look for Thai restaurants when we are away from home. This place looks the real deal but beware it's frankly a rip off. The food tastes OK but the portion sizes are an absolute joke for the higher than average prices. As an example, for £15 you can get all of 8 prawns in a Penang curry - that's it! The massaman sauce is good but the beef is restricted to a few small prices. All in all not a good experience and I'd suggest you look elsewhere.

We stopped over for night stay at Kendal before proceeding to hike Scafell peak. The Resturant was just so authentic and food was awesome. Must go place for meal before or after hiking. Post hiking we returned back for early meal and it didn’t disappoint. Good service and helpful staff!!

We went here for a meal and left after 45 mins without having received any food We ordered food after we received our drinks and lo and behold - the man who took our order who said that he didn’t normally take orders had forgotten to pass the order to the kitchen 3 groups of people who entered and ordered after us were served their starters within 10 minutes We were told there was a problem with the technology and I responded no the problem is with the man who took the order . We came for our first wedding anniversary meal as we were staying nearby in Kendal. The service was fantastic,and although we had to wait a little while it was definitely worth it when we got our food!We ordered a set menu for tow.The food was exquisite,all definitely cooked fresh and was lightly spiced and light. First of all, I am surprised at some of the poor reviews people have written about this place...this restaurant is amazing. It has been a while since we last went to Thailand bur this restaurant is by far the closest we've got to feeling like we was back there. The food was so tasty, and so authentic. Plenty amount of food - we left full. Yes this restaurant has high prices but its pretty obvious as to why they charge the prices they do, such as: the high quality of the meals, the beautiful decor, you are in the lake district, this is not an english gastropub (far too many people comparing prices of this restaurant to pub grub, nonsense reviews!). The staff here were so welcoming and friendly, even ensured our toddler was having a nice time. We had the Jintana sharing platter starter, so tasty and a lovely variety. Then we both had a chicken massaman with coconut rice - huge depth in flavour of the curry sauce, simply heaven. Plenty of food for sure. You will not be disappointed if you come to this restaurant, I could not find any faults whatsoever with it. We was happy with our whole experience here, food, staff, price, ambience was 10/10 for us. Look forward to returning here when we next up in the lakes. Great surprise, find whilst visiting Kendal.

This is no longer the best Thai in Kendal. It lacked flavour, was expensive and small portions. Very disappointing and for that price we will not be going back. The food did not seem that fresh, ingredients were sparse. Massive shame.

First stop on my quest to try every thai restaurant in kendal, we got take out and it was amazing. Staff were really lovely and helpful, menu was really accomodation for vegetarians and vegans, food was served super fast. Awful takeaway. The chicken sweet and sour was tasteless and the chicken was as tough as an old boot. The red curry was so watery and even the rice was very bland. I really can't say I would recommend this place as I won't be going there again. Very pricey for poor quality food.

A lovely place super tasty food ideal for groups for a night out

A one day trip to Lake District turned out to be a disaster. After visiting cave Rydal,We turned here without booking but we’re given a table and the dining experience was good. Everything was fine until next morning all three of us including my 11year old is sick with food poisoning. We had thai green curry veg and chicken, pad thai noodle for my son, prawn sesame toast, veg spring roll, tofu satay with some wine and mocktail.Something is definitely wrong with the kitchen as we are a great outside eater and dine almost every week. This is the first time it has ever happened to us. All three of us are still in bed with my child’s room needing a deep clean. Whoever is running the restaurant please check your kitchen and the way food are prepared. Something is definitely not right. Both me and my husband couldn’t go to work for the second day today and have sick child as well. I hope no one else has to go through that!

If you're looking for a fantastic Thai dining experience in Windermere, look no further than Jintana Thai restaurant. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the extremely polite and friendly staff. But it was the food that really stole the show. In fact, we would go as far as to say that it was the best Thai cuisine we have ever had. The flavours were simply amazing, and everything we tried was cooked to perfection. The restaurant also set the perfect preamble for our movie night, where we went on to watch John Wick 4. I think this is the best Thai restaurant in Kendal. Great food, good atmosphere, friendly service. I would definitely recommend the soft shell crab!

I used to go here often and was great food, but recently the quality has got much worse and the cost much higher. Not worth it, I can get a DIY takeaway from M&S for half the price and much tastier (as good as this place used to be). The only time I've had leftovers from a takeaway and binned it instead of saving it for later.

The chef is a real Thai master making top of the art dishes which we enjoyed immensely. Green Thai curry and mango desert is highly recommended.

Great tasting food, friendly and fast service.

Where do I start. I hate to put down restaurants, especially in these hard times, but this has to be shared. From the moment we walked in, there was a tense atmosphere between the staff. The manager and another member of staff seemed to be having 'words'. We were shown to our table only to discover that there was a 'New Year's Eve' menu. This was £35 for two courses, starters and mains. To be fair, there was a cheaper option of £23 but of little interest to us.If we'd know this before we booked, we'd have gone elsewhere. We waited at least half an hour before anyone took our drinks order and a little after this our food order was taken. While we waited, I could clearly hear people complaining and on a couple of occasions people approached to bar area to complain directly to staff. Fair enough, the prices may have been inflated to to the fact that it was New Year's eve but when our starter arrived, one of which was crab cakes, it was cold inside.....seafood.....dangerous! So I had to wait on my starter while my partner had hers. After my crab cakes arrived, they'd been microwaved and were like little firm sponges, devoid of flavour or perhaps crab even. For my main I ordered Jasmine rice and Masaman curry which duly arrived, I noticed that my rice was not jasmine rice in that it totally and utterly lacked aroma or taste of jasmine, I asked the water if he could smell it and he too agreed that it wasn't jasmine rice. He offered to replace it and the second offering was exactly the same.....it just wasn't jasmine rice. After the second attempt I just gave up and went with the bolied rice pretending to be jasmine rice. My partner asked how my food was and I replied, 'if you'd served this at home, I would have expected it to have been an Asda microwave meal'. I'm appalled that the chef was happy to serve less than satisfactory food and personally would have been ashamed to send it. Overall, we paid just short of £100 for a meal for two, including wine, far too much for the quality of food presented. Perhaps we were unlucky and other diners had a better experience but I'm not sure I'd ever return to this place before they replace the chef or ownership. Next time we'll stick with Bangkok 7.

Very expensive take away for what it is. Small portions, one dish at £13 didn't even come with rice or noodles, that was extra. Delivery nearly an hour late and food was cold. I will not be ordering a take away from this place again.

Arrived here on spec while travelling south from Scotland, located via Google Maps. We picked a set menu for 2 which was nicely varied with a good quantity of food, well presented and attentively served.

Good food and friendly staff. But I have now ordered the meals by phone on four occasions, arrived at the planned time, but been told there will be a wait. A couple of times it was 15 mins, but it has been as long as 60. It feels as though they don’t actually start cooking the meal until you arrive and pay - in which case why not accept payment over the phone?

I have been here before but didnt try too many meals. On this trip my Fiance and I tried a few dishes. We had the satay mixed starter. This is a mixed platter and provided a great variety of dishes and flavours, I loved the chilli beef salad. We then tried chicken sweet and sour, jungle chicken curry and Larb. All of the dishes were very fresh And packed with flavour. The service was friendly but professional.

Good service attentive staff, food could be spicier for me

Used this restaurant on Saturday evening and underwhelmed is probably an understatement. Party of ten we booked and pre ordered our food a few days in advance. Arrived at 7pm and were shown straight to our table and ordered drinks (good start). What followed was something of a pantomime unfortunately. By 7.40, only half of our drinks had arrived and the first starters began appearing. Staff were curt, dismissive and unsympathetic, probably a training issue rather than a conscious effort at ignorance and when the remainder of the drinks arrived we were asked if we'd like any more. Once the starters were cleared the mains started arriving quickly enough although when it became apparent that not all the rice had been delivered to the table, we made the staff aware. The absent rice eventually arrived but only after we'd effectively finished our meal. I could go on but at the end of the evening we were presented with our bill and offered neither apology nor discount. I certainly wouldn't use this restaurant again, nor would I recommend to anyone else, disappointing doesn't come close and given that there appears to be no response from the restaurant to most of the poor reviews on this site, they don't appear to particularly care either. Hope this review saves someone from a similar experience.
