Jintana Thai Restaurant, Ambleside in South Lakeland

We ate here on Friday 13th, which proved very lucky for us! The quality of the food, the lovely warm anmbie, and the exceptionally friendly service, made this a really memorable evening out. We opted for a Vegetarian Set Meal for two, which included lots of beautifully prepared, and highly flavoursome, dishes, along with generous helpings of perfect Jasmine Rice. It was complemented by a bottle from the very reasonably priced wine list. Every member of staff really seemed to care that we enjoyed ourselves, including the member of the kitchen staff who searched for, and rescued, every stone from MC’s bracelet which broke, scattering stones everywhere, as she climbed up some steps. The stones were brought to the table, in a bag, before we left. If we lived in Ambleside, we would visit this restaurant every week. It is as easy to recommend as it was hard to leave!

Booked online in advance with good communication. Prompt and friendly welcome and service. Helpful staff and excellent meal. Interior of restaurant tasteful and clean. Optional service tip which cannot be added on card payment therefore left on the table.

The app applied a small fee of 54p - which I accepted. When I checked my credit card bill a few days later, I noticed a further charge of £2.99 had been applied to the tip. I spoke to the restaurant manager, Nick, and he confirmed this was a known problem - which he thought had been sorted. To cut a long story short, I've spent the last couple of weeks trying (and failing) to get this refunded. It isn't a large amount but I resent paying an extra £3.53 for the privilege of making an £8 tip. If you choose to eat at this restaurant, take my advice and do not use the QR code offered to make a tip. I won't be eating there again, regardless.

Another superb visit to Jintana in Ambleside. Excellent food and service as always. Good choice at reasonable prices. Wines from Thailand were superb. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone l8king Thai food

Read previously from someone else’s review that they was not sure this place served Thai food, i completely agree absolute disgusting food, avoid like the plague.

We would like to express our concerns about Jintana Thai Restaurant Ambleside. You have no email address for us to contact you directly. Last night 8/11/24 myself as my partner dined there, our table was booked at 7pm we consumed: Vegetarian spring rolls Pork fried toast Khao pad vegetarian railway fried rice Khao pad chicken fried rice Water from a jug and 1 beer. A couple of hours later approximately 9.30pm we both became unwell and believe this to be food poisoning. Symptoms • abdominal pain • feeling sick / nausea • fever • diarrhoea • being violently sick throughout the night • dehydrated • painful gas with a strong unpleasant odour • feeling generally unwell Prior to eating this food which we believe has given us food poisoning. We last ate that day at 12pm for brunch. We had none of the signs and symptoms above and was in good health. Please could you investigate and advise what we need to do next.

Food lovely and service excellent

We absolutely loved it - great food and awesome service - would definitely recommend it - my chicken pad Thai was delicious.

My husband and I had a fabulous meal here. We were able to bring our 2 dogs too. Excellent restaurant and great, friendly service.

Fantastic food and service as usual.

We have visited here and the other Thai in Ambleside a number of times, but of the 2 this is our favourite. Friendly welcome on entering. Friendly attentive staff when serving. The food is very tasty and authentic Thai fayre, the curries are superb. My only gripe is the price of the sharing seafood starter, it needs to be half the price or twice the size! We will be back again though.

Tried the two person course , pad thai , and the soup. Safe to say we are pretty disappointed with the quality of food. We had authentic Thai cuisines before and it was nothing like this. The soup was watery with no depth or flavours. The pad thai was a bit too sweet and had a tang of ketchup flavour. The curries were nothing sort of special. Overall would not recommend as it is not up to standards with the price they are charging.

Service was exceptional, Nick is a credit to the team and was super attentive and friendly. The food was fantastic, the mango and sticky rice was delicious.

After a long day hiking, dishevelled and booted we were nevertheless welcomed. Nick was our host/waiter and was tremendously funny, trading banter but also serving us very well. We sat in the tuk tuk for fun. Food was delicious and a couple of UK bottled beers were available.

Had an amazing meal tonight (21/9/24) at this Thai restaurant in Ambleside. The staff were efficient and very friendly. The food was awesome and the whole experience was wonderful. Very dog friendly. Got a table in the front window and we all thoroughly enjoyed the food (dog included, he appreciated a bit of chicken Thai curry). Couldn’t fault any of it, would definitely go back again.

Faktisk valgte den ene af os nøjagtig den samme ret begge dage: Stirfry sur/sød med and 👍👍👍 Begge dage var vi heldige at få plads uden at have booket bord, men da mad og drikke bliver serveret hurtigt, er der også en løbende udskiftning og ledige borde. God atmosfære og venligt og kvikt personale. Rimelige priser. 1 fælles toilet i stueetagen, og går du 2 trapper op er der endnu 2 toiletter for Damer og Herrer

Delicious food, really lovely bunch of people, I'm sure I'll be back next time I'm in the lakes!

The food is surprisingly authentic, especially the Tom Yum soup. The stir fried noodles will be even better with less sauce.

Pleasantly surprised when we found this place when passing, the food was great and they also catered for my gluten free diet. A bonus to us was the fact that they were dog friendly (limited tables) which enabled us to enjoy the experience without having to get it in a takeaway. Highly recommend

Excellent in every aspect. Number one, the customer service was exceptional. We were made to feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. The decor and atmosphere was lovely, food first rate which helped create a wonderful memorable evening.

First time eating here, will definitely come again, food was excellent. Met up with family,all 8 of us would come again, 3 already returned next day, ,, recommended to others already. Special thanks to staff whom served/ dealt with us, really helpful/friendly.. Great service..

Fantastic meal, easily the best food we've had in the lake district over the years we have been coming here!

The venue is very nice, feels spacious and is themed. Service was also attentive and of good quality. But the food is a bit greasy and flavours are not that punchy in fact multiple dishes just blend into one. The meat is fine but again try comparing and contrasting across beef, pork, chicken and you may struggle. Ambleside has other better Thai Restaurants.

Much more delicious vegetarian meals than expected

Hesitant to try this restaurant as usually always go to other Ambleside one. But was sold out / no more seats available so attempted this one and did not disappoint! Very generous portion sizes. Tasty food. Fresh and hot and excellent service. Food arrived super quick following order.

Great food with a varied menu including some unusual dishes. 6 of us had well prepared food incl old favourites like Thai green curry! The decor was really good and the service first class. Not keen on two flights of stairs to the gents!

Having read some of the previous reviews we booked not knowing what to expect, however I can honestly say that our whole experience of eating at Jintana was lovely, we booked online and received a very warm welcome on our arrival, we were seated quickly and was nice to see that there were a number of other diners. The menu was just what we expected with some house specials available, once we placed our order for food it arrived in a timely manner and was delicious! The service was not intrusive but staff all made sure that we were enjoying our food. I would recommend this restaurant to any of my friends who found themselves in Ambleside.

Can be considered more of South Asian generic food. It was missing the authentic Thai flavours.

I haven’t had good Thai food in so long. This place hit the spot perfectly. The staff were also so lovely if I may also add. The massaman curry with duck I ordered was unreal.

Decent place to get something to eat. It’s not a fancy restaurant, but would recommend for somewhere to eat out.

Writing this review while waiting for the food. We ordered a starter, two mains, and a dessert. The starter arrived after an hour, and as I'm writing this, the mains have just come after a two-hour wait. The food is disappointingly average, and we're still waiting for the dessert after finishing the mains. Hopefully, it arrives before the restaurant closes. The long wait and mediocre taste make this experience not worth it at all. Worst experience!!

We were abused by another diner who was rude and very nasty and spoke to us really badly and we think the staff could have done more to be of assistance. The food isn’t that good after all we have travelled extensively to Thailand, we have eaten in many restaurants in England that a much nicer Sorry…but very disapppinted

Delicious Thai food and fantastic service!

Delicious!! Enjoyed a steamed Mince prawn starter between us followed by seabass, salmon in red curry with rice & noodles. The flavours were superb.

Absolutely fabulous food and lovely staff

A really pleasant experience throughout. Easy to book a table. Very interesting decor. Service was polite, attentive, professional and helpful, especially as I mentioned allergies. Food was plentiful, hot (heat not spice), well cooked. Wine choice good. Prices good, not expensive as we expected due to location. Value for money excellent. Would happily go back for a meal here again.

The food was good but one of their waitresses was hostile towards me and my friends (brown). We sensed the hostility right from when she let us in and when we tried to take a table she tried to rush us. Few minutes later a middle aged white couple came in followed by a group of 4 white tourists, and she had a complete change of behaviour. When we were done with our food, and the other waitress collected our plates, whilst we were trying to ask for a bill, we saw her printing the bill and passing and saying to the other waitress looking at us go and give it to them or they’ll not move. It was very bad service from her whereas the male waiter was polite.

Id love to leave 6 stars. Perfect service from the minute we walked in. The food is impeccable, authentic and tasty. Will 💯 be coming back next time we're in Ambleside. Best Thai restaurant in Ambleside. Great value for money.

Excellent food, fast service and not too busy. Prices are reasonable and there's a good selection on the menu. Strongly recommended if you like Thai food - the duck curry is a particular delight.

Lovely experience at Jintana Thai in Ambleside. We didn't have a reservation but were quickly shown to a nice big table in a room decorated with gorgeous carvings and Thai art. Our food was served quickly and was delicious. The waiters, particular the maître de were friendly and welcoming. And the prices were reasonable. What more could you want?

First I want to start this by saying they were extremely busy tonight so with benefit of the doubt perhaps on a quieter day there wouldn’t be the same issues. Nevertheless my experience tonight was sufficient to make me want to write this review. Ordered a takeaway online (good system), earliest time slot given was an hour later. Wrote a note in the comments to ask if I could come sooner and then headed down after 30mins. Arrived in the restaurant and waited a good while before anyone acknowledged me. I said I knew I was early but just wondering if it was ready. The response was “well what time did it say when you ordered” and that was that! Returned at the given time. Again a while before anyone says hello or asks if they can help. I’m eventually sat down and asked to wait. 15mins go by and a bit of “what’s your name” backward and forward and then I’m presented with my order. Half way down the road I think I’ll just check it’s actually my order and no surprise it’s not my order so back I go. Some confusion ensues (although not sure why - it’s not my order and I’ve brought it back because I want my one?) eventually given my correct order. Very mild apologies. No goodbye or have a nice evening, just rude and unfriendly ultimately. Just shy of £60 for 2 starters, 2 rice, 3 mains and a near 90 minute wait. Green and red curries were nice, rice was nice. Spring rolls and sweetcorn fritters were OK. Pad Krapow was not worth it - all heat and no other taste and not made with mince meat sadly. While I had been waiting I was sat by the bar. There must have been some confusion over someone’s soft drink in the restaurant because a Pepsi was brought back “they have already had theirs”…. And this was promptly poured away! It’s such a small thing but what a waste! Why not give it for free to the customer? My experience could have been completely different with a few small changes: greet customers on arrival and if you can’t help them straight away then tell them you’ll be with them in a moment. If a customer comes in for early takeaway why not just entertain the idea and see if it can be done quicker? Or say nicely that it’s not possible and offer for the customer to sit and wait or to come back. If you’re going to be rude about customers coming early then make sure the food is ready at the time specified and if not then be hospitable and keep the customer updated. When mistakes happen at very least apologise a bit more than “oops sorry about that” and don’t ignore customer when they say goodnight. Sadly that’s been the worst experience of Ambleside takeaways during our holiday. I hope that the owners and staff may take my comments constructively.

Good Thai restaurant We had the pad Thai and railway fried rice. I would recommend the pad Thai For me(Asian), a bit sweet but yes, I love it Mango sticky rice is good as well, I can see the passion with the chef

Fabulous Thai food in the heart of Ambleside. My sons favourite meal while visiting the UK.

We hadn't booked and the restaurant was busy for a Sunday evening but we were given a table. The food was very good and reasonably priced. There was some confusion from the kitchen regarding the timings of our food; we ordered prawn crackers and mains and they were apparently waiting for us to finish our starters before sending out the mains, however front of house double-checked with us and we weren't waiting long. The table next to us were apparently served squid rather than tofu for their starters (which they have posted negative reviews about). There was no mention of allergies during their complaint to the manager, who was apologetic. We did not hear anyone being asked to calm down and both diners had cleared their plates before a complaint was raised. Apparently tips added to card payments are not passed on to staff, so tip in cash if you can.

What a terrible experience!! My partner and I went to this restaurant this evening. We have both been vegan for 25 years and I have celiac disease and get severe symptoms from eating even tiny amounts of gluten. We ordered tofu skewers that were labelled gluten free and vegan, and double checked with the waitress that they were definitely gluten free and vegan. The waitress then brought us tempura squid by mistake - we both ate some of it before we realised that it was not vegan and also not gluten free!!! The staff were then rude to us and said we should just “calm down” and they would give us a free drink - at which point we got up and walked out. We are upset and angry and I am now very unwell, which will ruin the next 3 days of my holiday. If you have dietary requirements or allergies DO NOT got to this restaurant. They clearly don’t care about keeping their customers safe.

Best Thai restaurant I ever ate in UK👍🏻 Must try👍🏻👍🏻 Ordered Pandan curry, so great! Rich coconut taste and very good with coconut rice😚 The railway fried rice is surprisingly good😋 Pad Thai looks good and tastes good👍🏻 The Whiskey beef , a bit sweet but still amazing, good with rice too. We ordered coconut rice and jasmine rice just for eating with curry and whiskey beef, so delicious 😋😋

Best meal of our weekend. Lovely staff everyone was so friendly and were always smiling. Best duck spring rolls I have ever had and both my husband and my main courses were beautiful. Lovely bottle of Thai white wine too accompany our meal. Pleasantly surprised when we got the bill. Highly recommend great place in Ambleside.

The food was quite good..HOWEVER! the bald waiter was VERY rude. When i asked for rice, the bald man sighed rudely. the toilets had NO soap and we had to refill it ourselves. ALSO i had a sussy feeling they spit on our food. The waiter did not say thank you when we left. Dissapointed. Do NOT waste your money yall. The only good thing was their decoration! Very nice! But the waiters are so mean so. Never coming back.

My dear God ! Where do I being. I was quite skeptical to bring my Asian parents here. Buttttt my jaw dropped. We were in Ambleside and it was around 9:00 PM. The food was so good. I stopped eating mid way and took pictures to show y’all. My mom devoured the pineapple fried rice and me the railway fried rice. The drunken noodles was an instant hit with my brother and my husband loved Penang Curry and coconut rice. In short there wasn’t a morsel of food left.

We loved it here; food was excellent, staff were all very friendly and the overall service was great. Very reasonably priced too. Thank you, we will definitely be returning!

I first ate at Jintana Thai in 2022 and I haven’t stopped thinking about the pudding since! We visited Ambleside and I knew I had to book here again as I enjoyed it the first time so much. The restaurant itself is very well presented, comfy booth seats and beautifully decorated. The staff were super lovely and funny and really make eating here a wonderful experience! The food is amazing! We got crackers to appetise which came with a lovely sweet chilli dip and then we got the vegetable spring rolls (the plum sauce is unreal!) and chicken satay to start which we shared, then we both got the Thai green curry with coconut rice and yellow noodles, which was great as we were also able to share our sides. For dessert my boyfriend got the banana spring rolls and I got my long awaited Saku which did not disappoint! You must try the Saku if you visit! I would 100% recommend this restaurant if you’re staying or passing through Ambleside! They also have locations in Kendal and Bowness too!

Welcoming staff, lovely food, nice environment, great service. Dinner in a tuk tuk what more could you want. Would recommend and will definitely be returning in the future.

Visited here on 1st March with my boyfriend. We sat upstairs and had a very relaxed meal with excellent service from Nick and another lady (sorry we didn’t catch her name). We had fishcakes and spring rolls to start, then a yellow curry and Thai whiskey beef on a sizzling platter with coconut rice and noodles for our mains. All the food was delicious and the yellow curry was the best we’ve ever had! Bonus that it was dog friendly as we were staying in the Lakes for the weekend with our little frenchie so she got to enjoy it also. My boyfriend has a nut allergy and they were very accommodating with this and put us at ease. It also didn’t limit his choices on the menu like it does in some other places. We will definitely return when we’re back in the area and I’d recommend to anyone!

Lovely little restaurant, the waiter that served us was excellent, got us a table on a busy Saturday night upstairs, a really warm, polite, genuine man. Unfortunate I didn’t catch his name but top service. Food was lovely too.

Atmosphere was lovely. As for the food, if you had served me this meal at home and told me it was a ready meal, I wouldn't bat an eyelid. Left feeling ripped off, hungry, and slightly unwell from the food that was made with no love and likely 3 days previous.

Delicious, colourful and lovely service….just what we needed on a dismal Feb evening. Thank you. Menu consists of all the usual favorites with a few surprises. Food was a delicious mix of exotic flavours … hot and sour, sweet and sticky, all served with lightning speed.

The food itself was okay, the waiter was somewhat sketchy on the details of what was in the food and what or what not was possible. Left me feeling a little uneasy. On the whole, food was alright, prices were low and the place wasn't busy so can't complain too much.

Walked in for a takeaway and the staff were polite, efficient and kind. We had the vegetarian pad Thai and Thai green curry. Both were absolutely delicious! Highly recommend, fairly pricey though.

Customer service provide by the staff was pathetic.The restaurant people were rude to the customer I personally experienced that.The service provided by the staff changes with the nationality of the customer.The food price was overpriced even for the small portion.But,because of the attitude will never tried to eat there again.

Absolutely amazing food and service. So many great options and everything was soooo tasty. Our waiter was brilliant too, so helpful and funny. Make sure you check how spicy the dishes are if you aren't good with spicy, as lots of the meals are very authentic and spicy. Highly recommend!
