Doi Intanon Thai Restaurant in South Lakeland

Really good Thai food in Ambleside, we have been coming here for years and it is my first choice for a meal on an evening. We had the set meal for two, then banana fritters and with a couple of glasses of wine (plus 10% service) the bill was over £100, so not cheap, but it was all very tasty and nicely presented. If anything, the service is too efficient, meals are served and cleared very quickly, and it would improve the ambiance if things were slowed down a little and the customers feel like they are invited to linger a little.

4/5 fair. Food was nice and fresh. Portions let it down with high prices. Either lower or increase portion size. Lady taking orders needs to dress better and be more professional. Shabby trousers and old shirt for front of house really?

We have ate here lots of times over the years and we have always looked forward to a meal here but sadly it has changed for the worse, the staff seems to be different and not as friendly as they used to be the ambiance has gone the service feels rushed and the menu has shrunk as well as the portions, the food we got was good but it is now a shadow of its former self.

Our first visit to this restaurant…. We thought we’d like a change and Thai food is so tasty…. Wonderful setting, great food and the service was superb. When we left we felt that we had eaten some real healthy food and did not feel “stuffed” as you can sometimes feel having eaten out. I would recommend a visit whe. In Ambleside.

Fantastic restaurant, We turned up having not booked (which we should have done) but they managed to get us in thanks to a no show. All the staff we met were really helpful and friendly. And the food was brilliant. Will definitely visit again when we are next in the area!

Great atmosphere and even better food. Strongly recommend booking ahead as even on a Monday evening we saw people waiting a long time to be seated. Very polite waitress who served us for the whole time we were there who was very attentive and courteous.

We had an early dinner here and got a table without a reservation but if you like to eat later in the evening we would recommend booking because this popular restaurant gets very busy. We had a quiet table in the downstairs area and the server was polite and efficient. The menu is extensive, including a good selection of vegetarian options. My husband and I had spring rolls as starters and these were crispy and delicious. We ordered extra vegetables with our main courses (stir-fried chicken with vegetables and drunken duck) and everything was cooked to perfection. The jasmine rice and noodles were a perfect accompaniment. Our server was very attentive and kindly pointed out to me that I’d ordered a dish which had quite a lot of chilli. It was kind of her to check but I really enjoyed the heat. Doi Intanon is in our top three Thai restaurants in the UK and we highly recommend it.

We asked them to choose main courses for us. They chose Phad Himmaparn with prawns and Lamb Phad Pad. We had them with Noodles and egg fried rice. Absolutely amazing 🙂👌 Thank you 🙂

Excellent food and drink, both came quickly. Great, friendly service and a nice ambience. I had two dishes I’d never had before (spicy chicken salad as a starter, and stir fried prawn curry). They were both sublime!

Very good food and nice service. We had the set menu for two which was generous and well cooked. Beautiful fresh veg dish and a good red curry. Mixed starters were very good especially the satay chicken. Was a bit pricey at £100 for set two course menu and a cheap bottle of red inc a set 10 % service charge which always angers me . We ate here on a busy Friday evening whilst in Ambleside for my birthday. We were seated upstairs and the restaurant has a really nice feel and atmosphere to it. We ordered drinks and chose our food, Bangkok bangers and the chicken spring rolls to start with a portion of prawn crackers. Both were delicious. For main we shared the weeping tiger and a chicken pad khing, with both a sticky rice and an egg fried rice. The food was very nice, light and well cooked. We were nicely full. The bill with one drink apiece came to about £90. The service was very good. When we paid the lady thanked us for choosing the restaurant that night which was a nice touch. A lovely evening and we would happily return if visiting the area again.

We went for dinner on a Friday evening, good atmosphere, good food and reasonably priced.

My favourite thai in the southern lakes area.

We ordered some takeaway and it was very poor in many aspects including quantity and quality. The tiger prawns were miniscule. The containers were either half full or soup portion sizes. One of curries was like water. Based on the prices which we paid, it has been the worst Thai food experience ever. It has left a very bad experience to an otherwise a great holiday..

Given all the rave reviews, I ordered a thai red curry with jasmine rice. It arrived quickly, and hot - which was great. Having already visited the other thai restaurant earlier in the week, I was able to compare both red thai curries. I’d say that Jintana was tastier - and more sauce, spice and tofu. Unfortunately, this one didn’t have enough sauce to go with the jasmine rice, not enough tofu and the aubergine was slightly undercooked/hard.

Got asked if we have a table reserved at 9pm, and because we didn’t have one the server said that in that case they’ve stopped serving food. Why ask for a reservation if you’ve stopped serving?

Lovely spot in a lovely setting. We were seated upstairs and it was just a lovely grand setting. Good was beautiful and authentic and the service was great. So much choice that you are spoiled. We asked that we had some time between courses and they were more than accommodating x

Best Thai in Windermere! The pad Thai was tastiest we have had in the UK. Recommend you call ahead to book as it was busy.

We were lucky to get a walk in table as it is very busy and they turned quite a few people away after us and would advise to book. The food was very good tasty and enough. Service was very good. Nice place to eat.

It was a very disappointing meal! Gaeng Massaman Gai: it's said there are panapples in this dish, didn't find any panapples in it at all. Also there are only 2 small pieces of chicken and all the rest are tatotoes. Quantity is small, the rice is cold, felt like not freshly cooked! Weeping tiger is very expensive and tasteless. Food is already expensive, on top of this, They charge 10% service fee, but the services is just below the average. We had a dinner at the Misto the night before, the food is so delicious, the value for money, the atmosphere, the service are all far better than this one. A very disappointing experience!!!

Can understand why you have to plan ahead and get a table reservation as the food is amazing. Dishes had the right amount of spice and heat and worth the value for money. Will definitely come here again when in the area

What a lovely find! Stumbled across this place looking for a place to eat on saturday night and the waiter did his best to get us in. The staff were wonderful with our allergens. The menu is helpfully listed but the staff took extra care to make sure the food we ate was safe for gluten, nuts and prawns! The food was absolutely incredible too! I had a wonderful meal with lots of delicious thai flavours. My favourite dish has to be the chicken phad seyu - that was absolutely delicious.

Delicious. Had the prawn pad thai which was full of flavour. We were very grateful thay they seated us so close to closing time. The staff were friendly and attentive and gave good recommendations. Will definitely be back.

Booked online for dinner here tonight. Great service, lovely staff and food was 10/10. My girlfriend is coeliac and they have plenty of gluten free options available more or less the whole menu being gluten free anyway. Amazing authentic Thai flavours. I asked for my jungle curry to be a bit spicier than usual despite it being their hottest dish and they really delivered on this without ruining the flavour of the dish. Staff are very kind and welcoming and I could not fault the food in any way.

Enjoyed.a wonderful meal here! Been visiting Ambleside for years and always had takeaways from this place as we had young kids! We were excited to sit in and it did not disappoint! The staff are all so polite and friendly and our waitress was attentive and helpful. The food was delicious and fresh. If you are visiting this area this is the best Thai food in the area and personally the best Thai food I’ve had anywhere! Returning in Oct

We had a great experience here . The food was top notch , piping hot & very reasonably priced . The service was very quick and the staff lovely and friendly. Highly recommended for an evening out but would recommend booking though as we were going to go again another night just on the spur of the moment but it was fully booked .

Booked by telephone at a busy period without issue. Friendly reception and serving staff. Lab gai delicious and very authentic, chicken jungle curry spicy and delicious. Veg tempura massive and varied, vegetarian mild curry, creamy and tasty and coconut rice as it should be.

Excellent evening at Doi. Best Thai food I've had for a while. Inventive menu... Lots of vegetarian options and superb sea bass and steamed fish. Even the desserts were novel and all home made. Great service... Helpful and attentive from personable and intelligent staff.

Great food! Red thai curry was great, lots of veg options though aubergines spicier than expected but still delisious. We had takeaway yet the the dishes still looked great which is rare. From what i saw the inside is beautiful and the servers were nice 👍 Wish i couldv'e tried more.

Sadly not what we expected after reading the previous reviews… 6 of us came here after a hike and love Thai food after travelling to Thailand. Firstly the decor inside is out dated and dark, not the most welcoming start. The service was slow but we gave the benefit of the doubt being Saturday however we had a mix of waiters which got confusing and overall lacked enthusiasm overall. Food wise - To start we ordered the combination starter platter for 3 people which was presented at an individual cost of £9.99 which was useful to know, however there was hardly any to share, sadly the portions were tiny could barely share and overpriced. The pad Thai looks colourless and microwaved sadly. I was really looking forward to it until I saw that it was served with lemon and in Thailand it’s always served with lime. It’s all about the little details and sadly overall it was tasteless and again expensive for what it was. Found 2 hairs in two different meals :( couldn’t finish the dish off as it put everyone off understandably. Overall would not recommend sadly, and since then the passion for Thai food has faded away.

Having lived in Thailand for a year, this is my favourite place in the Lakes to get Thai food. Fresh quality ingredients, authentic flavours, and friendly welcoming staff. I've not sat in yet but have had several takeaways - always great. Would recommend to everyone.

Went to the Doi Intanon with friends for a delicious meal, where every course and dish we had was amazing! It’s a great menu with a lot of food choices, my favourite was the Pad Thai! Also the staffs are so friendly and accommodating despite of the busy place. First time visiting here and will definitely coming back for more in the future! Very worthy of our time and money, I had fun, left the building feeling satisfied and happy.

Just left this restaurant on our anniversary weekend in the Lake District. What a rip off of combination starter for two £19.95 for 2 and nothing more than a couple of mouthfuls for very few items on the dish! Not value for money. Main courses bit better but when brought the starter issue into play they did not accept our criteria and were quite hostile about the billl and no concessions when came to pay. Not be returning and feel because not regular locals they do not care and rip off visitors to the lakes which gives bad reputation to a beautiful area. Tonia Dean

Had takeaway from Doi Intanon twice during our holiday to Ambleside. The food was excellent, portion sizes were absolutely spot on, service was great too. Will definitely be back next time we come to Ambleside!

The staff were lovely and the food was tasty but the portions were rather small and this was by far the most expensive meal we had in ambleside and it wasn’t good value at all compared to the other places we went?

We’ve dined in before and it was lovely, but we were ripped off with takeaway. None of the containers were more than half full and the sweet and sour tofu dish had no tofu! Had to make toast afterwards anyway. Too tired to return all the way on foot to complain but we’ll never go back. An expensive mistake.

After reading several good reviews, I was expecting a lot more. Food was ok but service was awful. The lady that served us lacked any social skills and one of the dishes they served tasted really off. I mentioned it to the server and they didn’t even acknowledge it or apologise. Wouldn’t go back there.

Just been and ordered sharing starter with one extra starter between two of us, as we were not sure what we wanted. Had one gin, and 2 small beers Total bill was just pennies short of £50, we were very surprised as the amount of food we got was, in our opinion small. We paid £9.95 pp for combination starter and got 1 small satay, 1 Prawn, 1 small spring roll and 1 port toast each. We ordered a speciall chicken wing starter which consisted of 4 wings for £8.95. We love good food and are happy to pay for quality food, in fact we ate at Old Stamp House last night, which was amazing. But we honestly were amazed at the cost of our meal at this Thia restaurant. Assume it relies on tourists who will just 'pay the lake district prices' but we can't condone it Won't be back

We tried our luck getting a table here when passing on a busy Friday and they managed to squeeze us in. The meal was delicious, and tasted like authentic Thai food. The staff were very welcoming and the upstairs of the restaurant had a lovely ambience.

Wonderful service. Food was excellent, very authentic taste. Northern Thai sausages tasted exactly like they do in Thailand.

The food was exceptional as well as the service from every staff member. All the dishes we ate we delicious and would highly recommend it.

By far the best Thai good we have had in the UK The service was 10 out of 10, everything with a smile and fast service. The food was phenomenal, huge range of variety on the menu and the server can recommend dishes if you ask, they can also tailor the spice level to your preference. WOW!!! What can i say to justify this meal. We arrived and was given a table after being advised they would need it at a certain time for someone which had booked. (We were walk ins). We had no issue at all with this, so happy just to get a table. We then looked through the menu and chose our meals ( this was my first experience trying Thai food so didnt know were to start). We were able to have a starter, main and dessert. And OMG it was fantatstic. The food 😋. Would highly recomend. The staff was so accomodating too as they reasured me i would safe with my cows milk intolerance as nothing had it in in the mains and they accomodated on the pudding by giving my other half the incream i would have gotten with my pudding. Would definitely go again. But would book..

Had a lovely family meal here last week - the Emerald sea bass was particularly good. Service was ok but had to almost stand up and wave to get the waiting staff’s attention a couple of times so, please be a bit more attentive. It’s expensive for what it is but it’s a nice restaurant to eat in.

Hands down the best meal we've had in Ambleside. Packing the perfect balance of freshness and spice, it's evident the chefs take great pride in everything they do, where the specials on the menu are actually special. Solid good value wine list too. If you actually want a flavoursome meal in the lakes, you're in the right place.

Delicious takeaway. Proper flavour in each dish. And we arrived early, they called to the kitchen and had it made up straight away. Got back after a 10min drive and it was all still nice and hot. Not a morsel was left uneaten, highly recommend, especially for vegetarians.

6 of us went here on a Tuesday night (19th March 2024) and they fitted us in no problem. We had a variety of food with 4 of us having the set meals. We all agreed tgat we had fantastic fresh tasting food and were served by knowledgable friendly staff. Some of the best food we had during our annual Lakes Trip. Thank you.

Nice Thai restaurant, a great place for vegetarian dishes. Very fresh and clean food and very busy which is always a great sign of a good establishment.

Just had a really nice dinner here, the room upstairs is beautiful (downstairs is also nice, cosier), staff were friendly and service was prompt. The food was all excellently made, tasty, and there were a few options I had not seen in other Thai restaurants which was cool. Large vegetarian section on the menu which is all vegan, and in general a really good focus on allergens overall.

I visit at least a couple of times per year along with a group of friends & we’ve never had a bad meal. The menu isn’t huge but it does have variety and it’s very tasty food. The staff are excellent & very attentive.

What a fabulous restaurant in the centre of Ambleside ! Huge choice of food was difficult to pick as so much variety- we enjoyed Thai Salad, duck stir fry & red curry all delicious and obviously freshly cooked. Great choice of wine at reasonable prices too. Family run business- staff attentive and friendly. We will be back !

I stayed in Ambleside two nights and managed to get a table on the first. It was so good I booked again for the second and would have booked a third! I particularly loved the salads. They burst with flavour, which, combined with the crunch, gave a stunning experience. It was light and didn't lay heavy and you come away with all senses stimulated and satisfied. The location and atmosphere is lovely and all the staff helpful and courteous. Thankyou.
