Stayed overnight with breakfast. Fifteen minute walk downhill into Kendal where we attended a gig. Location just the job and an £8 taxi on return at night was good value. Room was spacious clean and a king-size bed was great. The room was in a separate building directly at the rear of the premises so absolutely no noise. Great set up. Quality cask ales served when we got back which finished the night off grand. Breakfast was just what the doctor ordered and when we asked for well done bacon, that was exactly what we got. Constant smell of the wood burner in the bar area suits us but someone in the bar was moaning. Overall great value and will come again when the next gig is identified.

Booked this place for four nights. It's hard to find a place that are happy to allow 6 dogs. The station inn was just the spot very welcoming to us and our dogs. The staff and rooms are first rate. We have stayed in many hotels and by far this is the best place. Food amazing, staff amazing. Perfect spot for the lake District. We have booked for a full week next April as it's that good.

This place has been a favourite of mine for over 50 years when I lived and worked in the area. Unfortunately my Job took me away until I returned in 2001 to Cumbria, Windermere in fact. I found there had been some changes not least in the Landlords. But I found the new Landlord Sam, Craig and Staff to be very welcoming and the menu to be Super. We had the Rump Stake which was absolutely amazing and cooked to perfection. It was well worth travelling over from Windermere which we will be doing often in the future. A Sincere Thanks to all the Staff at the Station Inn at Oxenholme and well done. Colonel Kevin F.P. Heffernan MBE.

We stayed here for four nights, camping last week and were welcomed by Linda and the staff immediately. There was plenty of space and a little park to keep the kids entertained while we pitched up. The first night was fantastic, we climbed the Helm opposite and witnessed a meteor shower from out pitch, which I as spectacular. The second night however, Storm Betty got the better of us and at 11pm on the Friday night, we almost had to pack up and go home as the tents were flooded and the pegs were lifting out the ground. Thankfully, Linda saved out trip and managed to find us accommodation for our whole party. She was extremely helpful and the eight kids we had in tow were made up to be able to carry on with their get away. The next night they managed to squeeze us all in for dinner and it was beautiful. The portion sizes are great and there were empty plates all around. We were able to stay in the BnB another night and explored more of the lakes, thanks to their hospitality. I would recommend this pub and BnB to family and friends and will definitely be returning in the future. Thanks again to the whole team, but especially Linda 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We live very locally and have been once before under the new management, we enjoyed it then so we thought we'd have another go. Food took over half an hour to arrive. Very basic and left most of it. Ordered sticky toffee rum sponge. All 3 of us left it, just terrible. A mushy mess. First time in my life I’ve left a desert after one taste. We told the waitress who just said she would tell the kitchen and that was it. Another young waitress asked us the problem but as it was a 2 course deal we still paid for it. We are local and wouldn’t eat there again. Food service was rubbish.

Sunday lunch, shown to our table at 2.05pm meal ordered still waiting at 2.50. When it arrived had ordered Sunday Roast, to be honest I had one slice of beef which was wafer thin, and the rest was non descript. Very disappointed. They have had problems in the past, but new owners seem to be trying. Long way to go yet.

Visited today with family. The children’s menu is great; the grandchildren loved the choices and felt ‘grown up’ having better choices than standard menus elsewhere. They had starters, main and dessert for reasonable price. Photo is kid’s chocolate brownie. Adults all had the Sunday roast; alas there was no roast beef (we booked for 4pm) but two of us had turkey roast and enjoyed it (the stuffing was really tasty!), one of us had the roast lamb which was tender and cooked perfectly. New owners working hard to resurrect a local favourite.

Paid for bed & breakfast through booking.com but when I asked what time breakfast was I was told they don't offer breakfast and it's a problem with booking.com, the couple weren't at all apologetic and didn't seem bothered in the slightest. The main reason we booked the station inn was because of the large outdoor play area as we had three children with us - it's out of action! Again no apology whatsoever! The reviews I saw on booking.com were fairly good - wish I'd checked TripAdvisor before booking as it seems many people before us have turned up expecting breakfast! (I should've filtered the booking.com reviews to most recent!) I even showed the man on my phone that it's still being advertised as bed & breakfast because he tried telling me we'd actually booked rooms only! I include the screenshot, that's exactly what it looked like when we booked so obviously expected breakfasts for the 7 of us. He shrugged his shoulders & said he'd phone booking.com Would not recommend to anyone! In addition, there was no headboard on the king-size bed in the kentmere room, the carpet is moth-eaten & the window was so drafty I got out of bed thinking it was open & needed closing, a drawer-knob kept falling off exposing the sharp screw - not ideal with children in the room. The other guests on our booking stayed in the mardale room, which was a lovely room (bathroom let it down) but stank of wet dog unless all the windows were open. Don't waste your money! Go somewhere else where you might at least get a warm welcome.

Myself and my husband wanted a night away somewhere completely different after the couple of years everyone has has so we chose Cumbria after something we had seen on Social Media. A straightforward 4.5hr drive with a couple of stop-offs saw us at a beautiful Inn in the middle of nowhere. The whole place feels welcoming. We didn’t want to have to go and find food so had dinner here. I have dietary needs but that was no problem… my starter of soup was plenty enough to keep me going for the rest of the evening and hubbies Rump Steak was huge!! The room was beautiful; beams exposed, cosy, warm! We must have been given a family room because alongside our HUGE bed was a single big enough for 2!! The bathroom boasted a power shower as well as a bath (which was deep and gorgeous) and straight from there into the cloud-like bed for the most awesome sleep ive had in a long time! Breakfast was served in the dining room with tables named after the bedrooms and on the back of each table-name is a fact about the place they were named for. Cooked AND Continental with juice already placed on the table and tea/coffee/toast brought fresh when requested. All in all, was well worth the 9hr round trip to visit this beautiful Countryside and stay in this amazing home from home

The improvements to the outdoor area seemed really promising but the gloomy decor is very off-putting. This isn’t helped by the window blinds, black walls and poor lighting. The chips were undercooked and hard, the vegetables were underwhelming and the lasagne flavourless. The young waiting staff were friendly and attentive but I’m afraid it didn’t make up for the bad food.

A treat for ourselves during our short stay in Kendal turned out to be less than satisfactory. The decorating in the dining area of the Station was very dark and quite dismal, sitting next to the big window though Dave lots of light and a great view, unfortunately of the car park. We ordered chicken wings to start which we shared between us, the barbecue dipping sauce was zingy and tasty but the battered chunks of chicken less so. My main of fish and chips was fine, the chips were big and chewy, the fish was enormous and I struggled to eat it all, overall with the chicken wings I’d chosen too much batter. My partner had the steak and ale pie, she asked me to have a taste but I was unable to get my knife to cut the pastry it was so hard, so I took a piece if the beef from the filling which was over cooked and very rubbery. We complained about the pie, as it was hardly touched, the waitress apologized and took it off the bill. We left unfulfilled both food wise and treat wise. Over two nights we tried two of Kendal’s lusted dining establishments and turned up disappointed both times. Granted we had tried to book others than were full, so maybe we didn’t taste the best of Kendal but we won’t be rushing back to either.

We were staying down the road in a guesthouse whilst visiting family in Kendal and they had booked a tables at The Station because it was very easy for us to walk to after a long drive up in the rain. The pub has a couple of nice bar areas and a dining conservatory on one end, which is were we were seated as we were a group of seven. We ordered drinks at the bar, where there was a good selection of local beer along with all the usual drinks. The specials board had a good range of meals and the menu added more choices. All of our food was perfectly cooked, quick to arrive, well presented and piping hot. The wait staff were efficient, helpful and chatty (but not in a way that interfered). The prices were very reasonable too and the portion sizes were good. We popped back a couple of nights later and sat in the bar this time as there were just the three of us. Once again we had a great experience and our meals were just as good as the first time even though we all had something different than before. Overall The Station is a lovely traditional pub with good drinks and food and I'd happily go back the next time I'm in the area.

We were staying at an excellent B & B just down the road and were only 200yds from the Station Inn so gave it a go. We had a pint and a half of the local Hawkshead beer which was fine. Starters of chicken gougons with a dip and tempura battered veg with a dip. As we had the starter we ordered the small gammon steak each but the chef got confused and we ended up with the 14oz one instead. My wife's was fine but mine had a bit too much fat round the edge for my preference. Service was good, nice and friendly. Wouldn't rush back again and again but perfectly acceptable and prices didn't seem over the top.

The pub has a very good outdoor children play area but is a shame of the slow service.Ordered the children's garlic bread when entered the pub at 12 noon on Sunday and the pub was not too busy at that time. Their food still not arrived even after we ordered ours half an hours later. The waitress apologised when the children's food finally arrived and ours arrived 10minutes after. I ordered the warm chorizo, black pudding and smoked chicken salad, the food was nicely presented but can do with more green I.e salad as I felt like eating a meat dish more than a salad dish. Will visit the pub again for drinks only when weather was dry for kids to play at the outdoor playground.

Recent family occasion with maybe fifteen people attending. Asked to provide food requests before hand which is fine, however, with the proviso we could have a look at the specials board on arrival. I did want a special but "wasn't allowed". I had ordered a burger which had already started to be cooked. Well, must have been a good thirty minutes before I got the burger. I actually ordered it with a view to have a special as the full menu wasn't so exciting and thought a burger would be easy change. Usual pub fayre. So I was put off then, maybe this isn't such an unbiaswed review. My fellow diners enjoyed their selections, steaks, fish and chips, ham and eggs etc. Burger wasn't so great anyway.. I was asked how it was to be cooked on ordering, said I would confirm on the night, but wasn't asked again. Big thick burger it was. Served on bread boards, I think this trend is on its way out thank goodness. Wood blunts knives and soaks in juices and bloods... not to mention the difficulty for the server.Wasn't too busy, took a while to serve about ten minutes from first plate to last, so folks finished before others started. Puddings seemed large and very tasty indeed.Be good for kids as there is plenty of space to play outside. It wasn't cheap, but good as a pub meal. Mixed opinions!

We stayed at the station inn on Tuesday 10th September 2013 for one nights B&B.The bedroom was spacious and bathroom was good with toiletries provided.I had to request a second towel as there was only one in situ and it was delivered promptly. There was a large flat screen tv in the bedroom for those people that need one.We decided to eat in the restaurant for dinner and it was a little disappointing.Tuesday night is steak night and the two choices were a sirloin for £18.95 or a rump for £15.95 which I thought was rather expensive, especially when at the bottom of the board it said if you buy two steaks we will reduce the cheapest one to £5.95.So if you bought two sirloins the effective price was £12.45 each. Unfortunately my wife did not want a steak so I settled for the battered Haddock and chips. The batter was superb, light and crispy, but the meal was let down by rustic chunky chips piled like girders on the plate. The printed menu was poor and you were directed to blackboards full of specials. Breakfast next morning was adequate, cereal, toast, and a cooked choice of bacon, beans, egg, mushrooms sausage. It was served only between 08.00 and 09.00,not ideal for an early start. If I was to return I would definitely eat out in Kendal town centre where there were several good looking restaurants.Price of the double room was £90..........enough for this location!By the way a G&T was £4.50.

We do eat infrequently at the Station inn and have done for years but never for such a large group and on bank holiday. would advise to book, but as they have both inside, in the bar - (dog friendly) and restaurant as well as plenty of tables outside near the childrens play area you are always made welcome. As they cook to order you will have a wait but its good food and worth the wait. We ordered 8 different meals, a prawn cocktail as a main meal (small appetite), 2 burgers (1 with extras), 3 steak and ale(blond witch) pie, scampi, chilli, pasta and finally a childs meal. With drinks it came to just over £100 so not bad as we were all very fully fed. The staff are nice and helpful. Afterwards the children had a play on the bouncy castle, play ground and there are alpacas to look at. If you want to spend a couple of pounds you can have a go on the crazy golf which entertained the children for a while. Not the cheapest place but with good parking, nice views and good food an good place to eat out.

There were ten of us from Cumbria and North Lancashire who met to discuss the state of the world and how to put it right. This is a grand location for such a meeting as Oxenholme is a mini-junction on the West Coast Main-line, so people could travel from Carlisle, North Lancashire and Windermere and leave the car at home.I enjoyed the duck leg, which I followed with an Eton Mess, which if I had been served it blind I would have called a Knickerbocker Glory. Both courses were excellent, as was the Black Sheep which was well kept and washed the food down as well as being good ale on its own merits.I am looking forward to our next meeting in this hostelry.

Barmaid wanted £36. I said, "£36 for two puddings and a pint and a half?" She immediately reconsidered. "It's £29.50.". She printed me a receipt and said, "You asked for extra custard. Life isn't free, sir." I had indeed asked for extra custard, for which I had only been charged a pound. But obviously, people who query bar bills in the Lakes are regarded as the lowest form of scroungers.
