Under new management. Information well out of date (probably lockdown). Sunday special 4th Dec Roast beef Yorkshire pud WRAP £6.95, roast potatoes £1.95, cauliflower cheese £1.95. Tasty enough but won’t be going again until they get their act together and do proper Yorkies, you cannot wrap them

Meal for 3 was very good - nice selection and all dishes were prepared well and tasted good. Overall an enjoyable meal at a reasonable price. Two containers of rice perhaps too much. One noodle would have improved it.

Called in for a quick breakfast . Ordered two bacon rolls at the counter. Sat down, waitress brings tea and coffee 5 mins later and announces we have no bacon or sausage . No apologies . Offered scrambled eggs! Wife drank the cappuccino , I had half a cup of tea. No apologies when we went to pay. No offer of refund or rebate on the drinks. Very poor. A cafe that offers breakfast, allegedly, but only offers rolls . No full breakfast at all . Then runs out of bacon and sausage at 0910 hrs on a Tuesday morning. Appalling . Do they actually want business ,because we will not be returning .

Despite the Latin name, I’d guess that this takeaway is more Turkish in origin than Mexican or Spanish. But that doesn’t matter a jot. What matters is the quality of the food and I must say that our chicken kebab with salad and mixed sauces was fantastic. It was perfectly cooked, substantial and delicious. Service was friendly and quick. This was our first visit here and we will certainly use it again when next in Cockermouth.

It's OK & what you'd expect from a Chinese. The portions are massive & to be honest I'd rather have smaller ones with better quality ingredients. The main compliment I have is how fatty & greasy everything was. I mean the chowmain was shiny & there was more fat than duck. I couldn't really recommend it as a high quality takeaway, the price is rather on the expensive side too.

Stopped off here today for a quick bite to eat while travelling. Arrived at 2.30 - Very poor choice of food: ie sandwiches, hot counter and pasties - considering it doesn’t close till 6pm, anyone would think they were closing in the next 5 minutes! Too much trouble for female staff member to be bothered - bordering being down right rude to be honest. Not the usual standard of service we get from Greggs - very disappointing. Will not use this branch again! As we sat eating our cold, dry gougons (with the only choice of dip being mayo) apparently they didn’t have any bbq dip!! And our cold corned beef pasties - as they had no steak bakes and very little else on offer, there were several other people looked what was available and went to subway next door. They lost a lot of custom just in the 10 minutes we were there! Need some customer services training for sure and to keep their counters stocked with more than 2 sandwiches and half a dozen cold pasties.

If you want a special meal with great food and fantastic service, don't go to The Trout. We were a family of 5, and we were all so disappointed with our experience. We waited almost an hour for our food, and when it arrived it certainly wasn't 4*. After we got our meals we were ignored by the staff. Nobody checked whether the food was nice, the plates weren't cleared after we finished eating, we weren't asked if we wanted more drinks, or desserts or coffee. And when we paid, the restaurant manager charged us for another table's food! This hotel has really gone downhill. Save your money and go elsewhere. We don't recommend it and won't return.

It's one thing selling sub standard coffee, it's another thing having to consume it in sub zero temperatures, no heating whatsoever, everyone wearing coats and even hats. We the customers get to leave and get a warm outside, the poor staff all wearing fleeces and scalfes have to endure the misery for the rest of the day, come on Starbucks you're a multi billion dollar company put the heating on you tight gits. I won't be visiting again.

Popped in here as this was the first pub I came to when my weakened bladder condition kicked in on a day trip to Cockermouth and I needed a wee. I politely asked for directions to the toilets in a tone that anyone could see meant I needed to find them urgently, only to be told sharply “It’s customers only”, which I’m not sure is even legal. Did she find my discomfort amusing ? maybe, not exactly the warm welcome to Cockermouth that the tourist guides would have you believe. Would she have found it more amusing for me to let go in the public bar on the way back out and her have to mop up ? or would she prefer me being humiliated outside on the high street. If I had agreed to become a ‘customer’ would I have to wait for her to pour a half-pint of guiness or could I use the toilet as soon as my contactless payment had gone through ? Having said that, the place was on the high street and virtually deserted at lunchtime on a Sunny half-term Saturday so that probably tells you more than any review I could post. The fact the place was as quiet as the grave made the dehumanising behaviour stand out even more. Beat a hasty retreat (no time to waste arguing) and found a much nicer pub further down the street, a fantastic patisserie on the other side of the high street and a lovely cafe at the end of the History Wall so I can attest there are some very nice people in Cockermouth, just not working in the Black Bull Pub.
