Popular cafe, set in a DIY store. It was busy when we visited (11.15am) but the table turnaround was pretty quick. Quite a varied menu, we both had the lentil & vegetable soup which was delicious.

Came here for lunch. There is a huge choice on the menu and the prices are reasonable. They do a kids deal on a weekend which is a sandwich, chips, drink and ice cream for only £2. Bargain. I had the pate off the specials board which was lovely it came with doorstop toast and what I think was redcurrant/cumberland sauce. The cafe is light and airy and there is plenty parking available outside.

Food is always good and reasonably priced. Staff very friendly but we go regularly, so got to know them. Can take awhile to get your meal. Pity they are not dog friendly, this is the only downfall for us

We came here for lunch one day through the week. We had to queue for a table but that was ok. It says on the website they are operating a 'first come first served' basis but this can't be the case anymore as I saw reserved signs out. They don't have table service anymore, you have to order at the counter. The food is good - I had the loaded chips. The only issue I found was that they were terribly greasy - a lot of oil/fat seemed to have come out of the cheese. The prices are reasonable and theres free parking outside.

The surroundings here are so underwhelming! It’s like a school canteen but without a nice choice of food! I had a sandwich and the side salad was dried up, not good enough! It’s also not table service so overall, not the best experience.

Lots of free parking outside on a level car park with a pedestrian path down the middle. Level access to the cafe inside Lakes Homecentre. Friendly, helpful staff and reliably good food. Place your order at the counter and the food will be brought to the table. Can be quite noisy when it’s busy

The food is fresh but bit overpriced. Some of the staff should take lessons in smiling and being helpful if you can ignore that it is okay

The Lakes Garden Centre is a lovely shopping experience in itself, but hidden within, the Lakes Tearoom is a terrific little spot that helps to not only enhance the centre, but merits a visit in its own right. I have read some reviews on this site suggesting that the menu is limited and there is not enough choice. To those reviewers I would say; get a grip and go somewhere else if you want a big lunch or a full dinner. This is a perfectly delightful little tearoom that sits within a garden centre and provides respite for shoppers during their visit. It does not profess to be a dining experience, and yet it still manages to satisfy the appetite with a wide range of sandwiches and savouries that comfortably suit a light meal or snack. It also has some really great cakes and sweets on offer and provides a standard of service and attention that is far beyond what one might expect for such a venue, especially given the constraints of the pandemic. The only challenge for me is how busy the venue gets, but it is no wonder because the food and drink offerings are really good and always presented to a high standard. The effort of the team in trying to accommodate the needs of the customer are also really evident, with things from seasonal drinks like spiced coffees and boozy hot chocolates, to great little light meal options with a complimentary glass of mulled wine. We are members of the Lakes Garden Centre Club which cost something like 10 pounds to join. However, within that cost, we not only get benefits and discounts from the store, we also get one free drink in the tea room each month, a free main course when we buy another, and some other great benefits. We will often stop by for a coffee, and in the four months since taking this membership, we have at least doubled the return on our investment. The Lakes Tearooms are a place that we would happily visit anyway, but with these additional incentives it is a real winner, and for a light bite on a lovely day out it is highly recommended.

Popped in here for some cakes but the kids spotted waffles on the specials, so glad they did they were amazing what a great treat to end the holidays, staff very friendly, would have given full marks but the place was a bit untidy (food and cutlery on the floor) maybe had a mad rush and hadn’t had chance to clean. Will definitely return to try some cakes. X

Its been a while since our last visit and we were pleasantly surprised with the way that the staff worked on this occasion. The lady that served us couldn't have been nicer, the coffees and scones were first class. Government guidelines in the restaurant were first class. Cant wait to go back.

I visited this restaurant with my family, after visiting the homecentre for a family members birthday. I have been to the restaurant numerous times but have recently discovered that I have an allergy to Soya and Lecithin which is an emulsifier and isn't normally on allergy sheets, this just tends to be on packaging. We got seated and I asked the waitress if they had an allergy sheet/book, just like people would if they had an allergy, the waitress said she would go and have a look. Few minutes later she came back and said they didn't have anything they could give me but asked what the allergy was so she could go into the kitchen and have a look on papers they had back there. Again she disappeared, came back 5 minutes later and said she couldn't find anything to check my allergy, but wanted to know what products Soya is normally in and I just had to avoid this myself. This is fine me doing that but as the Lecithin is an emulsifier I needed to know as it is in alot of products i.e butter, chocolate etc. I picked something that I wouldn't normally order but thought this was the wiser option and really think they need to get something for people to look at.

Called with my wife earlier this week for coffee & scones, we were greeted at the door by a young lady that had been checking/cleaning the toilets and she showed us to a table and presented us with a 'Track & Trace' document and a menu. We were worried by the fact that she didn't wash her hands or use gel before giving us the menu, (good job we had our own gel with us). During our visit we couldn't help noticing staff spraying tables and then wiping them down with a cloth, then proceeding to wipe the seats down with the same cloth, the cloth was then taken behind the counter area and left next to the open space at the back of the food display unit, we observed the same cloth being used several times to wipe tables and seats down. We also noticed that several of the staff were drinking and eating behind the food counter, one lady in particular pulled her face mask down on several occasions to take a drink and eat what appeared to be a scone and jam and at no time whatsoever did she wash her hands after touching her mask. We also noticed a member of their kitchen staff removing her mask to take a drink and then replacing it and then handling food without washing her hands, this was observed through the hatch in the wall from were we were sitting. We will definitely not visit this establishment again in the future especially whilst government guidelines are not being taken seriously.

When I first started visiting with elderly relatives a few years ago I was a bit disappointed with the menu as it is mostly soup, sandwiches, panninis and jacket potatoes. However in the last 6 months, I have started choosing from the Specials Board and I must say I have been really impressed and now I positively look forward to going. Specials have included a delicious christmas dinner baguette at Christmas (hoping they serve that again this year), their chilli is also great. My husband raves about the steak pie and there is a tasty mushroom nut roast .Service is quick and the staff are lovely. Prices are reasonable and the food is always tasty, fresh and portions are generous.

Lovely garden centre however the cafe is something to avoid. The menu is limited for savoury choices. The roasting machine was broken so that ruled out any toastier or panini’s. Sand which arrived butter on bread with a bit of dry turkey. No sauce etc. Side salad had NO dressing on. The meal altogether was dry and flavourless. Service wasn’t great table settings dumped on table in a rush. Desserts did look nice but I wouldn’t go here for something savoury.

Can't understand why anyone would complain about the food in this establishment as we've eaten there on several occasions in the past and its always been good. It was late morning when we visited last week and it seemed quite, we ordered Coffee's & Scones and we were blown away with the taste and quality, both my wife and I said that they were one of the best scones that we've ever tasted. Well done to all concerned. The only thing I could say that was negative about the place was that I noticed one of the servers appeared to be eating his lunch whilst working from behind the main counter, this to me is incorrect and they should eat in the rest room or at one of the tables in the restaurant, however this won't stop us eating there in the future.

Been here many times and been highly satisfied - friendly staff, nice, tasty food. But today, not so good. Arrived to have late lunch and coffee .... missed the lunchtime rush so tearoom was sparsely populated. Sat down at the table at 13.45 - left at 14.15 after having had not even one member of staff enquire if they could take our order.....despite there being 6 staff members behind the counter, and 3 in the kitchen. Final straw was when the table next to ours was taken by a family and staff immediately approached them asking what they would like - we left, hungry and thirsty - unfortunately, we will not be going back.

Visited with my little boy (14 months) 15th May. Positive are it was clean. Ordered bacon and Stilton sandwich, would have liked some bacon with the Stilton - couldn't eat it. Large clumps of Stilton between bread. Came with salad, no option of an alternative. Got my little boy a ham sandwich (children's), again came with a salad (not baby friendly!) - he loves fruit and veg,but hates salad. Alternative would have been nice. Options for children are very poor. No 'lunch' option like you get in most places (main drink and side) - so he was still hungry after. Was going to order a scone to share, but got fed up of waiting. Coffee was cold. Such a let down for the Home Centre!

Menu choice very good, portion sizes very good cooked well. Prices reasonable. Staff helpful and cheery. Had read a couple of bad reviews but then often there are those that look for issues. Will be back.

Amazing find! Ate here last night after staying in Rosthwaite and having limited options as we had not booked anywhere in advance. We were greater by really friendly staff, a cosy informal atmosphere and a great menu. I am usually a bit dubious about pub fish and chippy, usually preferring to go to an actual chippy, but WOW! They were amazing! We were both really impressed. Great portions after a day walking in Borrowdale and so so tasty. Good range of beers on tap too.

We stopped by in the morning for a sausage, bacon and egg roll and mocha. We sat outside as it was a but tight indoors for more than a couple of people. The food was decent. A nice runny egg and tasty sausage and bacon. Well-filled as well. The mocha was ok. Not the best I've had but passable on a cold day to wash down the roll. Not a bad little place where I'd happily go again for the breakfast roll.
