The best restaurants in Boltons Allerdale North West

Have eaten here several times now. Woodlands really is a hidden gem. Daryl really is an excellent chef and his food is outstanding. Whenever we stay locally, we try to visit. Give them a go and you won’t be disappointed!!

Excellent and friendly service. Dogs are welcome, but obviously not in the dining room, a table will be set up in the bar if the dog is with you at dinner. The bar is very nice too, the dining room is lovely. Home made liqueurs and home made shortbread in the room is a nice touch, and very tasty. Highly recommended. We will be back for more.

We just return form our weekend stay at this hotel, place it dog friendly, dog feel welcome in any part of hotel , staff very professional and helpful. Food was amazing, we would definitely return to this place . Highly recommended

5 star food in a beautiful setting with super friendly service. Brett is an absolute asset to this place - and one of the reasons we keep returning and will be back - so welcoming, friendly, funny and efficient. Thank you everyone - another delightful and delicious visit.

Lovely pub with friendly owner! Two real ales and a great selection of wine. Will go back to try the food!

We had some delicious sandwiches with tea and coffee. We also bought some cakes to take home and they also excellent. The tea room is very pleasant and all the staff are very friendly. Would definitely recommend.

We had a lovely dinner at the Black Lion this evening. The food was great and the pub was warm and welcoming, such lovely people. We’ll definitely be back!

This place is the shy little gem of a group of hotels ,from the moment you arrive your are treated as a returning friend nothing is to much for them to do for you .Rooms are amazing comfortable and excellent views .The food needs a whole revue just bye itself it's amazing

We don't eat fine dining very often, but when we do, its a real treat and Lyzzick Hall didn't disappoint last night. Good variety on the menu, generous portions and a delicious feast of flavours. Friendly staff, and a bit of birthday sparkle to top it off. Thank you.

We had not visited the old sawmill for some time but the standard was even higher than before .The staff were so friendly and helpful and two ladies in our party had the cheese scones and chilli jam which they declared to devine . Our other party members had the breakfast rolls , and the lady in charge explained that all products were from local sources and were of exceptional quality Everybody agreed that the Old Sawmill was definitely in the top 5 of all the tea rooms that we had visited in recent years and we will be returning in very near future All in all , it was a superb little tearoom and should be on everyone’s very short list Excellent staff, excellent choice , excellent service .

Superb service from Alan and Michael a credit to the company friendly polite and professional, i reserved a table with Alan earlier on day as daughter likes a quieter seating spot and was greeted by Michael when went for meal at 5pm, lovely comfy booth seating and the place was clean and inviting ,ordered from menu and snack sheet and it didn’t take long to arrive,food hot and delicious and drinks spot on, in fact food plenty we got more than we thought so got doggy box to take back to lodge.very full and overall great service all round.Thank you.

Lovely pub. Called with a group of friends for a drink and a bite to eat. The staff were brilliant, so friendly and very attentive. Lovely food and reasonably priced. Would recommend to anyone in the area

My husband, myself and our 13 year old son visited The Brasserie two days ago on a Saturday evening. We were able to walk from our cottage accomadation to the Brasserie. On arrival to the venue we were very impressed by the beautiful driveway leading down to the Brasserie. The whole establishment is obviously very well kept with beautiful spring flowers and plants and lovely lighting down the drive. On entering the Brasserie however, we were suprised that the decor didnt appear to match the rest of the hotel. We were approached by a friendly waiter on arrival who took our drinks and food order promptly. He checked we were all ok during the first half of our meal and we felt his interactions with us were appropriate, not too overpowering or disinterested. My husband ordered the mushroom stroganoff. He felt it was quite ordinary and bland. I ordered the brushetta and a side portion of fries. I felt the brushetta was overpriced but the fries were beautiful. My son ordered the pizza which he said was really tasty! During the meal.another member of staff( female) arrived and we have to say it was quite an experience! We had ordered a second round of drinks. I had ordere a lakes gin and a small bottle of fever tree ginger ale to mix it with. I was allowing my son to taste the ginger ale from the bottle. The waitress appeared out of nowhere and snatched the bottle from his hand with a resounding"no!" It shocked us all! We reassured her that this was not an alcoholuc drink. She then commented in quite a rude manner when my husband wiped his nose gently on a napkin and also told us later on during the meal that she was used to working in the " posh restaurant". During our meal she stood over us on several.occasions which we felt was inappropriate and a bit unnerving! We felt she would benefit from some more training from more experienced members of staff. We did realise she was young and and was probably trying to.please (.a little too much). We were very patient with her but felt there may be future guests who may not be quite so tolerant! A little later during the evening my husband and our son went to use the toilet closest to the Brasserie. They came back and both told me there was smashed glass on the floor and a dirty nappy. My husband reported this to a member of staff from the spa team. On leaving the Brasserie we walked through to the hotel reception as we were all so concerned about the state of the toilet and wanted to ensure it had been sorted and the message had got trough. The lady on hotel reception didnt appear to know anything about this but we did see her promptly speaking to another hotel member of staff after our conversation. The only other disappointing part to.our meal was the cheeseboard. It sounded fantastic on the Brasserie menu but when it arrived we were informed that some of the cheeses were not available. The waiter did however add a few extra for us but we felt this could have been mentioned before we went ahead with the order. Sadly it was a disappointing experience as it could be a fabulous setting within the grounds of an obviously gorgeous hotel.
