Main courses were delicious, the only big let down were the deserts, Nutella sundae with whipped cream, it isn't a sundae without ice-cream and sticky toffee pudding with whipped cream, when stated on menu vanilla ice-cream , with no discount because of alternative, should of came out to say they had run out of ice-cream

Lovely traditional village pub set just on the edge of the lake district. After hearing good reports from friends who had attended curry night we thought we'd give it a go. Hubby opted for the Cumberland sausage which he enjoyed very much. After the good reports I had the curry of the day which was a tikka masala. Absolutely lovely and presented beautifully. Both staff members were very welcoming and asked us several times if the food was OK and if we needed anything. We also enjoyed dessert and it was a lovely evening out.

A last minute decision to go up Emily’s Black Lion for curry night and what a good decision it was. All the food was laid out in a buffet where you can help yourselves to taste, all for £15 per person (Drinks charged separately). The starter consisted of a choice of around eight different foods including samosa’s, onion bhaji’s, popadoms and nan bread . The main course, you had a choice of about five curries of which I chose the Chicken Tikka. Great choice, great food, perfectly prepared and cooked. For £15, ll happily go again and recommend others to try it.

We visited this village pub while on holiday and chose 'quiz night' to enjoy a meal and entertainment. We also chose this pub because we had our little dog on holiday with us and they are 'dog friendly'. There isn't a carpark and parking is on the road in the village. The pub wasn't busy when we arrived so we were served by very friendly staff straight away. The menu was limited to traditional pub fayre, don't expect anything fancy/modern or fine dining. I had a veggie chilli, which was served with a slice of garlic bread, it was ok. The portion sizes were not generous, I would have liked to see more on my plate for the price of the dish. The quiz was very enjoyable, the quiz master was excellent, and the locals very friendly. Overall we had a good time, however, if I was to go again I would have dinner at home first!

As we were staying in Ireby this was our local and very friendly it is too. Lovely staff who made us and our dogs very welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed the local beer. We ate twice in the bar. The first time my daughter and girlfriend had burgers, which they thoroughly enjoyed, I had a curry which was tasty and my husband had a beautiful sirloin steak cooked to perfection (rare). The second time it was just me and my husband and we both had scampi and chips. Haven't had this for ages and it was a lovely big plateful, piping hot and thoroughly enjoyed. Lovely to have a proper pub, dog friendly and good value for money within walking distance of our house.

We visited the pub whilst staying in Emily’s View accommodation above. Tuesday night is pie night, so we obliged. It was good basic pub food. The pie was full of steak and tasty. However..... the desserts were not good. The cheesecake was awful. It had the consistency of lard. Not pleasant at all. The rice pudding was acceptable but I guess it was from a tin.

Visited here whilst staying at AirBNB down the road and walking past it every day! Great little pub with a homely feel to it, quite busy despite it being 6-7 pm when we popped in. Service was excellent and friendly and the locals keen to chat as well which I always like. I had gammon and my partner the burger , both were delicious and we finished with a nice cheesecake as the apple pie was finished sadly! Small range of tap beers but good enough for me (pub is small as Ireby is tiny so cannot expect 10+ taps) and good price for the food so all in all a great experience.

My cheese pie didn’t have a lot taste tbh, bit as it was served with onion gravy this made up for it.. my mums steak pie was full of superb tender beef. We popped in here for food while staying near Ireby and following a windswept walk on the local hills. The Black Lion is a typical small country pub with a few tables and no frills interior but the staff were warm and friendly and we enjoyed the local brew. The real surprise was the delicious food we were served up. We spent two nights in one of the two holiday flats above the pub, Emily's View - which, as the picture of Skiddaw from the window shows, more than lives up to its name. Comfortable, clean, well-appointed, quiet and good value, this is an excellent base for exploring the Lakes. I heartily recommend a stay here. The great pub downstairs is an added bonus - we had two first class family evening meals and enjoyed a friendly welcome, great real ale and good, honest pub cooking - with off-menu choices for our two young children offered without hesitation. They are not the easiest to satisfy but they enjoyed their first night's dinner so much that they both ordered exactly the same thing the following evening. It is great to see a traditional village pub brought back to life and thriving in this way.

Visited here at lunchtime looking for an all day breakfast and we weren’t disappointed. The full all day breakfast comes with tea or coffee and orange or apple juice. My other half didn’t want juice so they allowed us to have two teas and I had the other one as part of my breakfast that didn’t come with drinks included. The tea cam in mugs with the teabag in which allowed us control over the strength of the beverage. They also supplied a little China bowl to put the discarded tea bag in. The staff were friendly, efficient and courteous. The food was cooked fresh and well presented. The cakes and scones on display looked delicious although we didn’t indulge. Maybe next time.
