We came her eon the Monday and enjoyed the atmosphere so much we have returned every day and will do until we return home on Sunday the beer is absolutely fantastic in a calm but happy environment It is what it is a lovely place to go to and enjoy local beers and real ciders so enjoy even if you want more exotic drinks ...... The staff are so helpful and supportive what's not to enjoy

This pub does not serve food anymore, but the girl in bar show us where to go, so we went acrosd the road and found a good place to eat.

The castle bar is an attractive pub set in the heart of the Old Market place in Cockermouth town. The pub always has a great atmosphere, friendly staff and a good selection of drinks.

Came here for Sunday lunch after a lovely walk near Buttermere. We were definitely ready for food and were not disapointed by the portion sizes. Even the nut roast was one of the tastiest I've ever had! Although quite full, we ordered a cheesecake to share which was very tasty. Would certainly recommend and visit again!

Horrendous experience courtesy of Mr Cusack's malignant daughter. Went for a few quiet drinks and chats with my boyfriend, dad and uncle and were told at 9:15 last orders and to leave. We had just bought a round of drinks. Me and my dad went for a cigarette and were locked out of the pub leading us to knock on the door to access our paid for pints and belongings. When asking the landlords daughter her name she snarled none of your business just go. Really horrible experience that I would not recommend. I have lived here for forty years and never known owt like it. Terrible service, unwelcoming and uncomfortable. Do not visit!

Family of 5 visited tonight 22 October, we had scampi, burger x2 steak and ale pies and lasagne. All five of us really enjoyed the food. The service was brilliant too, highly recommended.

Visited the castle bar during the summer holiday with my family. We found this gem of a pub and couldn’t help but keep coming back. Firstly, all of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful which made us feel so welcome. I had the loweswater gold which I can certainly say was the best pint I had during our whole week away. We enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant on both Saturday evening and Monday. Wow, the steak pie was amazing and my wife’s chicken and chorizo pasta was equally as delicious. Everything was so fresh and we couldn’t fault a thing. We will definitely be returning on our next trip to the lakes and will highly recommend this pub to anyone! Thank you.

We visited Cockermouth for the taste of Cumbria food festival in September. After roaming the main street for an hour we headed up to market place where the Castle Bar is located. We have visited here before and to our surprise they were doing outside catering and bar. We decided to try one of their cheese burgers which at £4.50 was half the price of the ones we had seen on the Main Street and was beautiful. My partner then went to the bar and we tried some of the hand pulled Rosie’s pig cider served by a very polite young man who made the time to ask how we were and if we were visiting etc. We stayed for a couple of hours outside the pub indulging a few more pints of old Rosie and enjoying a really fun atmosphere. I must say this is really one of my favourite places to visit when we are over in Cumbria and would recommend to anyone. 😊

As very little in the way of eating places in cockermouth on a Monday we tried one that was only to find there was no disabled access to the restaurant....WHY???

The food here was very poor. Fish and chips - fish not fresh, batter soggy. Gammon steak - completely over cooked, bland boiled veg. Burger - did not taste home made, tasted like a cheap supermarket burger; bland, could not taste quality beef. Steak pie - the steak pie was the only dish that was possibly worth the price, although gravy extremely bland and boiled veg boring.

Fantastic! The staff are very friendly and the food is exceptional. I highly reccomend the lasagne and the steak pie! They were great with our daughter aswell (kids have to be out of the pub by 9pm which was fine with us) Beautiful decor and building. Very clean and well spaced out tables. We loved it so much we have booked again for our last night here.

We loved the interior and outdoor space. The sunny terraces were excellent so we decided to try the food .On arrival the barmaid was off hand and quickly told us the restaurant was not dog friendly. I explained that we were not going to bring the dog to the dining room.

Llamamos aquí por comida mientras pasábamos de camino a Silloth. Dejaron de servir comida a las 2:30, así que llegaron justo a tiempo. Pedimos las 2 comidas para 11. 95 menú. Tenemos gambas y cazadores de pollo. Ambos eran muy sabrosos y el tamaño de la porción era decente. Nos permitieron comer en el bar con nuestro perro, lo cual es una gran ventaja. Definitivamente lo recomendaría.

We often called in The Castle for drinks before moving on to other restaurants in Cockermouth, but ate here one lunch time after a long walk. 2 meals for £11.95, and food was really good. Good range of real ales at decent prices. Good pub that can get too busy at a night.

Had a great meal here on Sunday 8th September the day after my Son's wedding. the place is gorgeous and we had the upstairs room for pre-dinner drinks which was so pretty with little lights and big sofas to sit on. The food was excellent and hot and the staff were very attentive.

Booked a table for 7 @ 1pm for Sunday lunch. We arrived to be told there were no free tables and they had run out of most items on the Sunday lunch menu. We decided just to stay and pick from the other menu. (Bad move) what came out of the kitchen was disgusting. Eventually a waitress appeared so we asked for the Manager. A discussion took place, the result, we paid for starters and puddings.

A very pleasant evening with attentive staff and truly wonderful food. The Bistro Rump steak on mushroom stroganoff tagliatelle was the nicest meal I have had for a very long time. Will definitely return on next visit.

Everytime i go into the Castle bar there is such a good atmosphere around, the team behind the bar are always smiley and happy. The food in this spot is so nice. The lasagne is to die for.

Every time we visit Cockermouth we always head to the Castle Bar. The food is excellent and well priced. There's also a great selection of beers. The staff are absolutely excellent. It has a great beer garden to the rear which is a great wee suntrap. They also welcome well behaved dogs which means we can eat comfortably with our little dog. I would definitely recommend.

Our host recommended a visit to the Castle Bar and we were glad he did. We arrived early enough for the drink specials and then enjoyed dinner on the back leveled patio. The place is large but charming and with a variety of seating from bar to restaurant to patio. We liked it so much we returned the next day for the lunch special. The food was delicious. The fried mozzarella was a real treat, not the sticks you get in the states but two tasty large rectangles and a super little salad to go with it. Pictures are of our lunch specials.

Well what a fantastic pub/restaurant! Food to a high standard with home made pies. Hearty meals with excellent staff and a very friendly cosy atmosphere. This was bar far our favourite pub! Staff work tremendously hard here and tables are cleaned regularly.

Went here for a 60th birthday meal. Waited an hour for food, which was then fairly inedible. Uncooked chips, cold pasta, soggy and undercooked batter - felt like the food had been sitting around. Staff very pleasant when we complained and gave us a free drink but really should not have been charged. As it was a birthday meal, didn't want to make a big fuss.

This is a good pub. We had lunch here - excellent Cumberland sausage (of course) and Jennings bitter. Prices are amazingly reasonable for better then average pub food, and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

This restaurant and bar has many areas in which to dine. We were in the main dining room. The staff are very friendly, helpful and efficient. The prices are reasonable and the menu varied. Unfortunately, the food on this visit wasn't as good as we have previously experienced. The whitebait was too soft and undercooked and the main courses were a bit bland.

We ended up at the castle after unsurprisingly finding everything else reserved or booked out in town on a Saturday night. It was very busy so we had to find a table in the bar, and the food was quite a long wait, but we were warned about this when we ordered.. and the food was worth the wait. Very nice quality, well presented and good sized portions. Very impressed for a pub!

We visited as a group of 10, obviously not a small group, but the staff did a great job. One of the group asked for his meal to go back, and it was handled really well by our table staff, Amy, Megan and Abby. 3 girls who do a great job, while ensuring they attend to the customers needs. Would recommend highly and definitely come back again!

Fuimos a tomar una copa después de un paseo nocturno y al instante me encantó el ambiente tradicional y las cervezas de primera clase. Pensamos que las comidas se veían bien, así que volvimos a la noche siguiente y disfrutamos de una verdadera cocina casera en la hermosa sala del primer piso que daba al antiguo mercado. Con el atento servicio del excelente personal, el Castle Bar es un firme favorito.

Reservé un menú fijo para una pequeña fiesta de bodas de 8 personas, según su puntaje de Trip Advisor, ya que vivo a 280 millas de distancia.

Apareció aquí hace un par de semanas en la primera noche de nuestras vacaciones. Dos adultos y dos niños. Pudimos conseguir una mesa de inmediato. El servicio era amable. Grandes porciones y comida muy sabrosa. Quizás la lasaña podría haber terminado con un poco de ensalada, pero de lo contrario, todos disfrutamos mucho de nuestras comidas.
