Ordered two separate bacon melts no ketchup no onions, they gave us the complete opposite and when I tried to call them they cancelled the phone call multiple times. £15 for two completely wrong items, disgusting quality.
What a gem of a place! We hadn`t been for many years and had dinner last night, April 5th, and it was excellent from the moment we walked in.
We had a very warm welcome from a young man and our waitress was just lovely, I`m sorry we didn`t catch her name but she was fabulous. Food was exceptional, my husband had the rump steak and it was cooked perfectly medium rare, I had the hot shot parmo and our son had the regular parmo, both were amazing, nice chips too and very reasonably priced!
The whole place is beautifully decorated and immaculately clean, but the food and service are outstanding here. Look forward to returning in the next few months!
Eat here very often. Tonight was a different lady some one mentioned she was manager. From walking in with our children to getting us seated she had a i cba attitude. My little girl attemted to speak numerous times she continued to ignore her. Kay came over and got her the colourings she was asking for.. also referring to our newborn baby as an it. Just wasnt famiky friendly at all almost like an atmosphere. The usual girls kay and sharon are lovely so friendly. I then ordered food from the thrifty tues ( 2 course ) for 12.95 x 2 meals, And a kids roast 6.95 and a adults roast 8.95. Food come it was tastless the lasagne smelled awful what is usually lovely. An iceland microwave meal wipes the floor with tonights. The pastry on the steak pie was powdery tasting. The roasts were exactly the same size. The lady didnt even no which was which. Very let down. Then i paid and the same lady charges me full price. I asked her how it was so.. to which she replied she didnt no i ordered from the thrifty tursday and the portions are different nothing she could do. I will not be returning in any hurry
Great Sunday roast on Easter Sunday. Attended with my family including 1 child and 1 toddler. The service was incredible and the staff all very friendly, including the chef.
We all had a Sunday roast except my nephew who had tomato pasta. The food had good portion sizes and tasted delicious. My nephew who is 1 had a child’s roast, which we did take half home because the portion size was very generous. My grandmother at 95 usually struggles with eating her food but with the lamb being so tender she able to eat all of her roast which we all were shocked to see. We all enjoyed our mains and enjoyed the atmosphere. For dessert the toddler enjoyed his ice cream and wafers, the chef did give him an extra one after seeing how much he enjoyed the wafers. The other child had the chocolate cake which he said was the nicest cake ever! My grandmother had dessert of sticky toffee pudding and again ate it all.
Not only that the food was incredible but the staff were friendly from the booking: where I was messaged on the member of staffs day off to ensure we had a table, to the staff in the venue who were friendly and could not do more for us. They made all of us feel incredibly welcome.
Definitely will be back.
We were staying in nearby Kielder Waterside as we do and have done for the past 7 years during February half term. We came across this pub last year where we enjoyed a nice meal and so were looking forward to returning. We visited twice over the course of the week and had 2 completely different experiences. The first visit was nice and we all enjoyed good food and good service. The second time we experienced an extremely confrontational and rude landlord who needs to learn some skills in customer service. Our 19 year old son ordered a pint of Guinness. He wasn’t asked for ID despite looking much younger than 19. He had 3 pints during our time there. We had paid the bill and were getting ready to leave when the landlord went to the pool table and took the remaining half a pint off my son. He slammed it down on our table and then shouted at us that our 3 boys had all been drinking and he would lose his license. Our other sons are 18 & 12. The 18 year old doesn’t drink due to a health condition and I’m pretty sure that our 12 year old doesn’t drink either!!!!!!! The 18 year old had a small sip of the 19 year olds drink as I had called through to tell them we were leaving!
Firstly, I completely understand that you are responsible for your license and that it is your livelihood, but you need to establish facts before being extremely rude to paying customers. Secondly, had you spoken to us, your paying customers, with respect and an ounce of decency and customer service we would have gladly shown you the ID for our 19 and 18 year old sons. I do not appreciate being spoken to and then not given a right of reply. My sons said that you told them you’d been watching them on your cameras, which I find a bit strange. If you were so concerned about our sons (legally) drinking and presumed without establishing facts that they were drinking underage then I would suggest in future you speak to us in a courteous and respectful manner.
Such a shame that the other reviews on here about your bad attitude have been proven unfortunately correct. This is the first review I have ever written and would always usually give places the benefit of the doubt but your rudeness was not acceptable. You’d learn some lessons from the staff working at the Black Bull Hotel in Bellingham. I suggest you ask for training.
We went to this pub on Friday night and had such a friendly welcome and such lovely food that we returned on Saturday night. A lovely pub, with an open fire, juke box and pool table - in addition to the amazing food. I would highly, highly recommend a visit. They also do takeout food, but we ate in the pub. I would also suggest ringing beforehand as it is very popular.

Last night I booked a table as I have many times before always having good food BUT this was not! I ordered a chicken pizza and chips, they sent a bolognese by mistake. The replacement came and although it tasted all right it looked anaemic and the chips were very under cooked. My wife has a chicken burger and the upper bun was rock hard and inedible. This really was not as we had eaten on other occasions so please be aware standards may have dropped. On a positive note the Madri lager was lovely.
Negative first:
No warm welcome.
Toilets dirty but seemed like it was from that service and not generally dirty, probably need checking through out the day.
Drinks orders took around 10m to be taken and another 10 to arrive.
Starter arrived after 45mins.
Dinner arrived quickly after finishing starter. Mistake made when giving dinners to wrong tables so 2 guests had to wait around 5 mins after first 2..
Positives:
Starter choices for Sunday lunch set meal was very good.
Meze starter, really tasty & good size.
Lunch was very good, meat spot on. Veg wasn't you usual boring boiled veg. Roasted leeks, mange tout etc. gravy really tasty.
4 guests, 3x 2 courses, 1x 3course.
Extra side of cauliflower cheese.
4 pints lager, 3 pints coke £87 everything.
Food spot on, service poor.
Would we go back, yes but would be prepared to wait.
