We had a takeaway. Meat was so tough. The supposedly mild dishes are so spicy hot that I couldn’t enjoy it at all. Unfortunately I threw my food away.
They used to be so excellent.
Not using them anymore.
Been here before with family from Cornwall so came again on Monday service was excellent as was the food would give more stars if available we will be back at Christmas
What great establishment!
Genuinely taken back by the high level of service received from Jess and Declan. Both really nice people and fantastic at their job! Looking forward to returning soon.
Met up with family for a birthday lunch. Family members had toasted sandwiches but I had the prawn, crab and avocado salad. I ate it as I was hungry but the ingredients weren't good quality. There wasn't much salad only a small bit of iceberg lettuce and a few tomato slices that were unripe and were cut so thin you could see through them. In the middle of the bowl was a big dollop of small prawns with crab and avocado paste all mixed up together with a dressing.
I imagined it would be a few king prawns with a couple of crab sticks and pieces of avocado but it was all a mush. Anyway I didn't complain but thought I wouldn't eat that again as it's quite expensive and not worth it.
When I got to my mum's house I had to rush to use the toilet super quick as the lunch had run through my system. Very unpleasant, I won't go into detail! This running to the loo went on for a few days. I thought I should let the pub know as they need to know. I phoned them to let them know that they need to be careful when serving prawns and salads etc and was really surprised at the attitude of the lady on the phone. She didn't apologise once and denied that there could have been anything wrong with her food. I'm really disappointed. I live in London and visit Harpenden now and then to see family. Won't be going back there. It's obvious they don't care about their customers. Be careful that their sea food salads might give you diarrhoea.
Service terrible we waited an hour and 20 minutes for food after ordering even after asking how long it would be after 45mins. The glasses were dirty and had to be changed. The food was nice when we eventually got it but not worth the wait! It’s such a shame as it is a lovely setting in the conservatory but would definitely not eat here again. It maybe ok to go for drinks but the restaurant service is terrible
Visit this shop on a weekly basis with the family for take away - the staff are always so polite and friendly! The food is good value for money and plentiful! Nice to see them remaining open during lockdown whilst following the social distancing!
Went there yesterday as I haven’t been there in ages after the lockdowns. I looked on the new menu to see what’s new. Me and my partner had Bubble fruit tea mango and Oreo shake, unfortunately the bubble tea was way too sweet and bit expensive. By honest Shaken cow shouldn’t really do Bubble tea or boba as it doesn’t work out well. Milk shakes, ice creams and other drinks is fine.
I always enjoy this place. Excellent food, very fresh and tasty. Never had a bad experience. And the staff are nice too. Can’t ask for much more. Alsos very good value for money. Love it
I recently arranged the wake for my late mum's funeral at The Black Boy in Bricket Wood, and I can’t express how easy this was from start to finish.
From my very first interaction with Peter, nothing was too much trouble, and the options were easy to understand and book.
I was familiar with The Black Boy pub and must admit the location is ideal—just a short drive from West Herts Crematorium, making it convenient for guests, with a small car park and ample street parking available as well.
Peter's guidance in planning the catering was perfect; he takes all the hassle away and there was more than enough food for our group.
The selection of hot and cold finger foods, along with the delightful cake and fresh fruit, was ideal for the occasion. The small reserved area for our group to sit and talk, was perfect and the bowls of crisps laid out, was a nice extra touch too.
Peter also gives the option to include a personalised music playlist and a photo slideshow for the large screens. Which is a really nice touch.
On the day, the staff were amazing, kind, attentive, and respectful, ensuring all our requests were met .
I would recommend The Black Boy for any similar gatherings.
Thank you once again to Peter and team for making this difficult time a little easier.
