The best restaurants in St Albans East of England

They really need to update their website, as they stop serving food at 4pm, which is at odds with the website which says they serve food on Saturdays and Sundays only, with no time restrictions.

Very nice pub, especially when they throw the alcohol bottles in the trash at 1:00 a.m. You wake up and the first second you want to visit it.

The new chef, Mr Nitin, has raised the cuisine in the restaurant of St Michael’s Manor to a new level. We had a meal that was memorable, and far superior to a lunch taken there with friends in July 2023. I’ll be back. VIP treatment for vegetarians too.

Such a wonderful restaurant. We’ve been going for years and the food is consistently excellent. My favourite is the chicken shaslick but it’s all really good. Experienced chef and attentive, friendly waiting staff. Highly recommend

Rubbish don’t know how people go there

Stopped off for a quick breakfast on the way to a meeting, not from the area. Farm shop is lovely and the restaurant even better. Had the full English which was delicious. Proper ingredients and great service too. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for and as a treat well worth it.

I've only ever had great food and friendly service from whoever is taking orders. Food has only ever been fresh and the menu has so many options. We pick up at least twice a month recently and we've been ordering for over 10 years :)

Online they said 35 minutes waited another 50 minutes to collect my order. Service has gone down hill. Shame I've been coming here for years. Do better.

I visited the restaurant for a Sunday lunch with a group of nine. In summary, I thought there were some good points, but we waited far too long for our food, which would mean I would not come to the Hub again with such a large group. The good points: • The set up and décor of the Hub is excellent and there has clearly been a lot of investment. • The staff were generally confident, friendly and responsive. • On the whole, the food was good and for the price, very comparable to other local Sunday lunches. Some things that didn’t go so well were: • We were a group of nine, who had pre-ordered. I had sent the final order around Friday lunchtime, so 48 hours before the booking. The table was booked for 12:15, whilst initial drinks orders were taken quite quickly, the starters did not arrive until 13:15. That is a far too big a gap, when we had pre-ordered. Given, we had pre-ordered, I would expect to be served quite quickly. You should be ready for us. The main courses didn’t arrive until 13:45, a full 90 mins after we had sat down. • When the pre-order was made, there were some comments on some of the orders. These has clearly not been picked up by the kitchen. Eg, I asked is my daughter could have some things from the bar menu. These needed to be ordered again which meant my daughter got served last after everyone had received their starters. There was also an issue with one of the cheeseburgers being initially very undercooked. • During the meal, we did ask if we would be served soon, only to be told we were next. It then took another 10 mins to get the food. It didn’t feel like there wasn’t enough capacity in the kitchen for the number of people in the restaurant. After all of these issues we refused to pay the service charge, which to his credit, the waiter had no issue with. As a comparison, we had gone to the another well known pub on the road to redbourn for a meal (10 people) before Christmas (23rd Dec). Again, given the size of the group, we were happy to pre-order. When we arrived, there was a print out of what we had ordered, so people could remind themselves. The staff also asked if there was anything additional to order at this point. We were served the starter within 15-20 mins of sitting down. This was a much better experience. So whilst there were some good points to the lunch, I wont be recommending the Hub as a place to go for Sunday lunch with a large group.

Awesome pub in a quiet part of St Albans. Cold beer, great food, friendly staff; I'll totally be back.

We all had the trip of meats for Sunday lunch today. One plate was fine, two plates with slightly overcooked chicken and beef and the pork portion was very small. All edible however I would not expect this to be so considering the time of our booking of 12.15. The rest was good.

Very welcoming place and fabtastic service. Lovely atmosphere and big shout out to Lisa - the bar lady. She is an original...one of a kind. Always will be back

Massive thanks to Liam for helping arrange a suprise Birthday Party. Liam is a chilled layed back guy but extremely helpful and also made a little suprise gifts for the kids to find for Easter so he went above and beyond what we would have imagined. Thanks again for making the event more enjoyable Top Bloke !

Bar staff made a few unwelcome comments and closing early (9:30pm on a Saturday) compared to online advertised hours of 11pm.

Top evening I had and they even bought a birthday candle out on my cake at the second attempt of asking 😂 very friendly staff especially our waitress, Beth.
