Flamelight in St Albans

Ruined Xmas eve. Ordered food at 5 to be picked up at 8.15. Spent 30 mins in shop and still no one had spoken to me or three others in the queue in front. When I pushed to the front to speak to lady behind the counter she explained the order would still be some time but couldnt say how long. Others in there were already waiting over an hour for their pre ordered food. Rubbish client service with staff hiding.

I ordered just for myself 3 dishes which come to £28 beef chow main which was a good portion and not greasy so ticking all the boxes,ribs were laughable 0 flavour,and beef in black bean sauce although a lot of beef again 0 flavour and more or a slimey water than a sauce,despite all these food crimes when I asked if prawn crackers are on the house I was told yes only if you spend over £30……… So basically I felt I had to re mortgage my home despite spending a ridiculous amount on average food while being told a cracker wasn’t available because I didn’t fit the criteria.???

Had chicken curry not nice the sauce taste like gravy horrible the rice was sticky only good thing was the chips wont be going back

I honestly have never tasted a better Chinese takeaway. Everything is tasty and the portions are very generous. I like that you can book ahead of time for a later collection. Highly recommended

Update::SLOW!!!!!!??? Still outstanding food and by far the best Chinese in the area by far and beyond. STILL let down by hugely inaccurate lead times for ready food when busy. 5 stars if they can sort that, food definitely deserves it Excellent food. Let down by having to wait an unacceptable time for it to be prepared. Repeatedly told 25 mins and always over 45 minutes at weekends

Very quick service, was ready in 5 minutes! The chow mein was lovely, salty and very flavourful, would recommend!

The Flame Light is back! Counter staff have been replaced and the kitchen is no longer trying to sort out the mistakes in the orders. What a difference...!

If I could give a zero star I would. We only ordered a soup, pork fried rice and chicken chow mein and it was utterly disgusting. The rice especially was not cooked,tasted like plastic and had no taste. Its such a shame because we like to support the hospitality business in these hard times but seriously this should not have be served up it was awful. I did call up to complain but they were not bothered didn't even bother to refund us part of it. Never ever will I be going there again.

Have used this takeaway for over 25 years. Just recently it appears to have gone down the pan. Tonight an order which was supposed to take 40 minutes was still not ready over an hour later. When I did eventually get the food home, most of it was cold and there was little or no meat. The deep fried starters had obviously been cooked in advance and re-fried. The chicken inside was barely cooked and the batter impenetrable. The whole meal was a big disappointment and I cant imagine I will use them again.

Long wait, kiichen was in a shambles. When asked how much longer was completely ignored on several occasions. Will not be going back. Other customers also waiting longer than me.

The most disorganised takeaway ever. Waited for hours for the food. There were ten other customers there who had also been waiting forever. Orders either wrong or not even taken Waitress had no idea what was going on.

I was surprised to read the last review. We've always had very nice takeaways from Flame Light. We ordered via their app again this evening and it was superb. The ribs particularly good and fab satay prawns. Great quality in our view.

It was always usually very good. However, the price has become very expensive and the quality of the food has deteriorated significantly. I shall not be going there again!

Always have a great Chinese takeaway from Flame light in chiswel green St Albans. Staff friendly and happy.

It’s NYE and I get it’s busy but telling someone to arrive 25 mins before it’s ready (after a 1.5 wait) really sucked. Not even a free bag of crackers to make up for it (tight owners). We will be using Sam’s in London Colney from now on

Usual good service and nice food.

Stopped off at Flame Light after an exhausting day at work and can honestly say the welcome was very friendly and we weren’t rushed to order our food. We ordered Kung po prawns, egg fried rice, plain fried noodles, salt and pepper mushrooms. We ate the prawn crackers in the car on the way home! Enjoyed the food so very much that we stopped off the next Friday evening too. Delicious food and definitely would recommend to anyone. Parking is a doddle which is always a bonus.

First thing is first. This chinase is EXPENSIVE. Like proper EXPENSIVE. Wouldn't mind if the food was of high quality to justify the price. But it ain't. The noodles were not mixed properly, and were dry and bland. The garlic spicy chicken???? No garlic, no spice just mostly chunks of microwaved chicken. Duck was ok but overcooked. The soup was the best bit of the order, and that says something. Inside the store was like a freezer and staff seemed to speak only one syllable. If this is the best chinase is St Alban's, god help us all. AVOID.

delicious, quick and resonable price

Dont know of a better Chinese take away restaurant. Food is always top quality. If you are thinking of a chinese meal in and around Chiswell Green look no further than flamelight.

Always friendly service and good quality. Book ahead on busy nights. Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for.

Was very disappointed with food, ended up throwing it away very greasy and fatty, ribs were just the end cuts almost no meat on them at all. Paying high price for poor quality food Will not be returning to this take away.

Food was good until my brother started throwing up from food poisoning about 3 hours later. We got the same dishes apart from our rice (his had chicken in it). The only thing we can put it down to is the chicken not being thoroughly cooked in the rice.

Not very hygienic. I been their kitchen i seen it. N their store room also messed up.

Flamelight is awesome because it has cool service and tasty food form Hannah age 9 😀
