Fantastic local pub with INCREDIBLE food from local producers. Food was all freshly made and seasonal and delicious. Staff were really lovely and gave excellent service. Just regret not getting a pudding as they all sounded fantastic Specials board was amazing and was most of our order

I don't visit that often but I had my small gathering 60th birthday, close family only there and it was a really nice experience. The staff are friendly and attentive with regular checks if everything is good and if we need anything. The food is good and I like the range of real ales to Lager's they have. The staff went above and beyond to help him and us, and I can’t thank them enough. Thank you so much for your kindness and support. PS – it has nothing to do with the food that was served – it has happened to him before, and unfortunately happened to have had an episode today. Thank you again.

Stumbled upon this old pub whilst in st Albans last sunday. Popped in for a pint to get out of the rain. The food looked decent. So i ask if there was a table. They showed me to a spare couple of seats and I ordered a sunday roast it was lovely 3 meats. Veg. Roasties. Yorkshire pudding and lovely. Gravey. The service was quick and the food lovely and hot. Had a couple of pints. The pub was busy with a friendly buzz. Very dog friendly too, there were at least 2 under the tables.. Lots of puddings. Homemade if required. I shall return. It feels like there might be a pub on nearly every corner in St Albans, but The Six Bells stands out for having a surprisingly great kitchen. Even humble sandwiches are done well, but it’s a sizeable menu with a chalkboard full of specials like pies, fishermen baskets, burgers and salads. There is also bar-bites and Thursday is curry night. Sometimes food is not really given priority in pubs, but The Six Bells has a friendly atmosphere and good meals.

If you go for the beer, really good real ales, this is an excellent pub. Avoid the food though. We waited 1hr 20mins for two sandwiches on a Saturday lunchtime. The fish goujons sandwich was OK but £15 and the sausage sandwich was very ordinary, it didn't come in ciabatta as advertised but in a small panini, for £11. The pub even charged 12.75% service charge - for a wait of 1hr 20 minutes! To be fair, we were told there would be a slight delay for the food but the order only came after we asked about it. The pub is pretty inside and has a nice beer terrace outside.

With it's competitor down the road now having closed door's, Six Bells is the only pub in St Michaels Village. Staff here are warm and friendly, however and not having a go, merly just stating that I did not know until paying up, there is a steep service charge on top. Worked out that it costs £30-40+ per person here, yet at another venue whom do similar foods but at much bigger portion sizes the price is £10.00 per person. Found the pricing on the menus very confusing 😐 no £ symbols just a small figure. Could be why this pub was virtually empty with. I really want to support businesses including locally as understandably it is a real difficult time for pubs especially with cost of living having gone up, however with over priced foods that was small portions found this off putting. Items on the menu no longer available. Would I go here again but only if no service charge and no high costs.

I recently visited this local pub and I have been wanting to sit down and share my experience. We were greeted by a friendly atmosphere and welcoming staff. The moment I walked in, I felt like I was among friends. The decor was charming and inviting, with a warm and cozy atmosphere that made me feel right at home. The menu was diverse and offered something for everyone, from classic pub fare to more unique and creative dishes. The food was delicious, and I appreciated that the ingredients were fresh and of high quality. The bar was well-stocked with a great selection of beers, wines, and spirits, and the bartenders were knowledgeable and happy to make recommendations. The drinks were expertly crafted and served with a smile. What truly made this pub stand out, however, was the staff. They were friendly, engaging, and went out of their way to make sure everyone was having a good time. They created a fun and lively atmosphere that made me want to stay and chat with my friends for hours. The Engineer is my goto pub when I am in Harpenden. They are a very nice car park, and although the area is perfectly safe, it is nice to leave your car safe. I entered the bar to a friendly welcome and was shown to a nice table in minutes. A drink was ordered and delivered quickly, and I was given the list of the day’s specials, all of which sounded good but I had my heart set on more standard fare. I ordered the burger and chips and very shortly after a nicely decorated plate appeared. The burger was well cooked but succulent, the chips crispy and hot; add tomato sauce and it was heaven on a plate. At some point a member of staff appeared to check everything was ok and got a thumbs up. A few minutes after I had finished, the plate was removed and I was asked if I could be tempted with the dessert menu, everyone one knows there is always room for pudding. I ordered the brownie. When ordering the burger I had mentioned that I was intolerant to wheat, and staff automatically switched me to the gluten free brownie. To my delight it tasted wonderful (many don’t). Again the staff left me alone to enjoy my pudding. Shortly after I had scraped the plate clean, a member of staff asked if I wanted any else, I was happily full, so just the bill. The staff have mastered being there when you want them, otherwise leaving you alone to enjoy the meal. I am looking forward to my next visit to Harpenden so I have an excuse for lunch in the Engineer.

The Mac and cheese children’s portion was tremendously small, the toilets were diabolical; and my friends burned their hands because of how hot the water was and it wouldn’t turn off and there wasn’t want soap. On top of that, there was a bad smell in the toilet. My friend had a black hair in his burger and also, the corn was nibbled. The mac and cheese was delicious but it was a shame there wasn’t more of it.
