Costa Coffee in St Albans

I like this Costa. It's in the right place for shoppers and nice and comfortable.

Great staff, so friendly. Coffee is always great

Very nice atmosphere with good selection of drinks to choose from and a variety of seating. Hot Milkshake was not the best, with me ordering a Strawberry and White Chocolate flavoured milkshake but not being really able to discern it past it being thick hot milk.

This Costa is very good some lovely cakes and pastries, toast and various sandwiches these come in from outside company. The staff are very good this was the time I had been to the Saint Albans branch & this one is one of the best

Came in for awhile n a chill out before going out to see my partner da in a care home

the place is always clean and tidy easy access to order from app and you can now get free from milk without extra expense now do m.s foods some of the original staff have returned with smiling faces but is now getting a bit more expensive hence down grade of stars

I’ve always had a nice experience at Costa St Albans branch. Most staff I’ve encountered are very professional and friendly apart from a young Asian lady. She had a cold, served us without gloves nor washing her hands regularly. She was about to argue with my friend about her order. I work with people on a daily and I believe the customer is always right as per the trainings. In this case my friend was right. She the cashier placed an order for one instead of two yet she got upset when confronted. It’s unprofessional to argue with a customer just apologise and go about your business. To avoid unnecessary back & forth. Her body language was off and she went ahead to make the worst iced it. We ordered for frappe & since the machine wasn’t working she suggested caramel iced coffee. One word for it Terrible!!! When your heart is not on it the service will not be of value. Customer service is key and if you’re sick. It’s always advised to take a day off. Everything else at the outlet is perfect 👌

Ordered a chai latte and ask for some cinnamon as i always do whereverI order a chai latte but “you dont do cinnamon”. Disappointed again

On my recent visit to St Albans I popped into Costa on the high street . The cafe itself is ok but the food is beyond bad. I had the misfortune to choose a chicken and bacon Caesar wrap. Dry tasteless hardly any filling unbelievably bad. To its credit they offered a replacement or refund but beware of the wrap

Fine, apart from the fact that a fire alarm console bleep was going on ALL DAY for about 4 days without being given the immediate attention it should've had. Poor effort IMHO. That's on top of the other toilet that's been out of action for God knows how long. This is in spite of a sign outside the loo saying that it is being addressed. Disappointing customer experience to say the least. Suggests management is in no hurry to sort our customer comfort and experience. I went to a different cafe the rest of the week.

I've gone to a lot of Costa's but this one doesn't have the same atmosphere and just felt worn down. The staff were doing a great job but this place needs something to keep up with the other many cafés in St Alban's

A very pleasant Costa. A good amount of seating space. Well presented stock, same as other CC. Speedy service but not overly busy as it was the tail end of lunch. Good amount of staff serving.

I really love your establishment! And most of all, the atmosphere is brought by the team. I am sad that there is a tense atmosphere here in the team. Maybe this atmosphere is created by one person or several, I don't know. But I want to come to you with pleasure. But when I make an order, the staff fulfills it with a lack of desire. And I understand everything, things are different. But this is always the case, and your neighbors, who are literally 100 meters away, have a very nice team and atmosphere

Staff very friendly and helpful. Just had a coffee and biscuit, but very clean and have been back since.

It was very busy and the staff where a bit disorganised but the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. Adding more charging points would be a good idea as one is not enough as many people wished to use laptops etc

The card payment machine wasn't working, therefore it was cash only. The dishwasher was broken, so paper cups only. The latte I ordered and drank was beautifully made and tasted great, the staff were clearly under pressure and working too hard, and all female, which is very sexist. Ever wondered why most coffee shop staff are female? It's because females don't need to pee as soon as the feeling comes to them. They can hold it for ages. Males can't hold it. This makes females more productive and that's why coffee shops are more likely to employ females. It's totally on purpose and totally cash related.

What a l9vely shop and the staff had a great stlystrm houng. Because I had a stick, they brought my coffee and cake to me.

Home workers taking up all tables sitting with one coffee at table for 4 for long periods working from laptops.

The coffee is good but the place needs a bit more cleaning. Also the staff seems a bit bored and it’s not that they don’t have anything to clean…

I had Tea, it was fine. Its a bit tatty, the restaurant I mean and there were school children in there being ,well children I guess so not for me

I find the customer experience in ST Peters Street branch much nicer & helpful caring staff mean a lot to me . I mentioned this to a nice young man Friday 27 th too. Having been in the other Costa in Maltings I have to say the staff in this branch ST Peters St are so much more helpful & pleasant in manner too . I’ve also had hotter latte’s here too. I really enjoyed my latte & £1 carrot & walnut cake too . Roll on £1 cakes on Friday . Having to choose between having hot drink or toasted sandwhich for finational reasons I went for the offer .I look forward to going in again very soon . Thankyou .

This is somewhere I like to come. Friendly staff and good coffee it is a pity they now seem to be allowing dogs. Luckily we found a table at the other end of the store.

I assume he's the manger, perpetually rude and hostile, ordering the staff around with a wave of the hand. My panini was served to me after I literally watched half the contents fall on the floor. He spread out what remained inside it. I know it's a very busy shop and they're under pressure but it really is awful, because of him. The other staff seem friendly but are not allowed to interact with customers.

Worst Costa I've ever been in. Dirty tables, dirty floors, and the staff didn't inspire hygiene either. Also the young lady who served us had a serious attitude problem. Get a grip Costa!!

Absolutely packed. Huge queue. Unfortunately last mouthful of coffee had grounds in. Toilet had no soap & handdryer didn't work.

I think so far this is the worst Costa Coffee around … considering their service with dirty empty coffee cups / plates / tissues on the tables & floors. Not the first time for the toilets to be closed down so there’s no way anyone can even wash or sanitise their hands! You ask staff for help and i been ignored many times abusing my kindness! I think management is unprofessional or not experienced enough to push their staff to get better.

What on earth is wrong with your air conditioning? Unbelievably hot staff and customers sweating at 7am in late September 😓

Please sort out your Air Con. unbelievable temperature again inside your coffee shop. Went straight in and straight out this morning as it was unbearable. Had my coffee next door, coffee not as good but their Air Con was working.

Went into Costa no queue no one waiting 3 staff behind the counter 1 pretending to be washing up 1 with a stack of plates placing them 1 by 1 infront of me and 1 leaning up against the counter not one of them asked me what I wanted or even acknowledged me needless to say I walked out and will never go in there again I went onto to cafe Nero was served immediately ( with a smile ) and good coffee Costa need to sort their staff out with good customer service .

Very poor branch of Costa. Only had takeaway cups, no plates for our toast plastic knives that broke as soon as we tried to spread our butter. The cinnamon brioche was stale. We wont be visiting again.

my coffee was too strong, and not very hot ,my husband drink was not right,my toasted sandwich was burned and my husband cake was very hard you could used it to knock a nail in , so not a very good visit

Tables are not cleared or cleaned regularly enough, they need a shop floor assistant on the floor, Tidying up and cleaning tables

Had z really good coffee here. However returned the next day for breakfast and was served a blue mouldy cinnamon roll 🤑

Hands down one of the worst Costa’s in the area. Every single order I’ve made, they’ve always failed to do it correctly. From having coffee grounds all over my coffee, to them not even managing to put sugar in a bag, as requested. If they struggle so much with the easy stuff, it begs the question of whether they do any other aspect of their jobs properly (like washing hands, making drinks properly etc).

I love Costa - but the St Peters Street branch is awful! It's uncomfortably hot and is full of very uncomfortable chairs. I ordered a small mocha and it really was small - for £3.10 I had about 3 sips. I won't go in there again - just horrible!

Dirtiest toilets I’ve been in! Went in for a coffee, popped to the toilet and was horrified to see how dirty it was. No toilet paper, soap dispenser was empty, grime all over the walls and seat and the floor had puddles by the toilet. Went into the toilet next door and it was pretty much the same.

Vijay is always helpful and efficient! Give the man a raise ✌🏽My man was working on his own and kept the shop running smooth

Good coffee and food, but not enough staff. No handwash in the toilets which is not good in these Covid times! I told a member of staff but they were overstretched and the soap wasn't replaced whilst we were there (about 1/2 hour).

Not great. The server was not at all engaging. Was like a robot. All tables had dirty cups on all of the tables except one. That one had a leak in the ceiling above it which was dripping all over the floor. Won't go back.

It's a Costa. Problem was, lack of sugar free milk options.

Staff always friendly but the white chocolate is the worst I have ever have. Not blaming the staff but Costa. Watery and powdery. Shouldn’t hot chocolate be thick? It’s like drinking a cup of hot milk. Definitely you need to improve it

Nice atmosphere love the coffee

Today I came in and order for hazelnut almond latte but I checked the online menu it different prices, this is not the first time happened and I’ve been always confusing. The staffs is nice though but Costa need to training them more properly.

Not one white barista, sorry (could have been in Delhi). Also, the coffee wasn't very good as it was too weak and I had to ask for another shot. Costa need to pay more attention to their franchises as they sometimes let the side down. Also they should create a better and more smoother blend.

I have never felt a need to write a review on TripAdvisor in the past, but today's visit to Costa St Albans, St Peter's street, merits a comment. Upon arrival at mid-morning, I queued behind a middle aged lady with two or three youngsters, who were somewhat distracting her; the male staff member was trying to attract her attention, but rather than saying something like:"Excuse, me madam", he shouted at her "You, you, you", while pointing at her in a really aggressive manner, which really disturbed me. I really recommend Costa invests in 'politeness and manners' training for its staff. When it was my turn, I was given a cutlery which was not washed properly and had dry bits on it, which I rejected - the chap just picked it up and casually threw it under one of the coffee machines, without replacing it with a clean one. Lastly, I visited the toilets - there was only one in use and there was a small queue. When I went in, it was in appalling state - there was wee everywhere on the floor, but around the toilet the puddle was few centimetres deep, so to use the toilet - I had to stand in the puddle! There was toilet paper on the floor and the tap only worked if it was held down with one hand, so impossible to rub your soapy hands together! When I told the staff that the toilet was really dirty, their response was that there was only one toilet in use and it was a "disabled" one, hence its state. All in all, I think St Albans Costa on St Peter's street has deteriorated so quickly and so terribly in the last few months, which makes me really sad as it used to be a lovely place to have a coffee and cake.

My self wife enjoy the day out every day at Costa in st Albans really nice to sit and enjoy the coffee I wish you have more offers when I use the Costa points card because it takes long time to earn the points we are retired couple that's why anyhow we enjoy it every day

Spacious Costa and less dull brown than in most plus a nice outside seating area on the busy high street.I would give 5 stars if there was no smoking outside.

i went in for drink. it was not clean. they don't have anything for disabled people or people with disabilities. i could not understand half of the staff. i told them their t-loop wasn't working and they said not my problem. wont go back again.

It's a Costa, pretty much the same as any other Costa. Staff were polite. One of the doughnuts we had was stale, but was replaced without fuss. Wifi and toilets available

Only drink tea, not much of a queue. Was in & out in 4 mins. Tea was lukewarm, so wasn't over impressed. Hopefully once indoor seating sorted this may improve. I'm sure to return & try out a snack or two next time.

Spoilt for choice with the selection of coffee shops and places to eat along St Peter's Street but this is handy for buses to Luton, Hemel if you wanted to pop in for some refreshments

one staff member was not very pleasant. He Rushed you with your order very quickly , this has never happened in any other Costa , I have been in .

Staff not wearing masks- under chin is not how you wear it. When asked, the staff said it was because they aren't working 'near anyone'... as he hands over the drink he's just made for me 30cm from his face... thanks. Won't be returning

The 'only' Costa I have come across in N. London and Herts where there is no compulsory requirement to register your NHS app code and where loads of customers are often inside sitting down etc...I find this most worrying and expect higher standards of this national outlet.

They do an amazing hot chocolate.

Costa coffee at 29 St Peters Street, unscreened counter area, servers' mask dangling under his chin. I repeatedly asked him to put it on properly and he repeatedly refused, his reason - I can hear you better if I'm not wearing it. Can't review the coffee I left because staffed by dangerous morons.

Staff are nice and polite, nice coffees and cakes. Only fault is they can be slow

In normal times this is a typical Costa with friendly service but on my last visit there was very little care for virus hygiene and no one was tackling the several groups of people not wearing masks while waiting. Not good enough.
