A locals pub in the middle of the high street that most people by pass??? Why its got a huge garden and serves a very decent pint!!! It's a calm restful place in the hassle and bustle of the town centre. No food which is probably why its quieter than the other pubs.....deffo worth a visit!!! Street parking only which is the common thing with all town centre pubs.

Lovely beer garden, nice staff. good pint, will give the staff back home some focus and direction.

My husband visits this lovely pub for the good beer and friendly atmosphere but always moans about the flooded loos. Now he’s getting on he will have to be more careful, but great pub!

Having been in the cross keys a few times over the festive period it has been a really enjoyable time with the friendly staff and fellow drinkers who enjoy a great pint the best by far for a Guinness and ale that my father in law and father both love in harpenden The Christmas decorations were absolutely lovely with clearly a lot of care taken making the pub very festive however having returned yesterday and the decorations were taken down leaving all the faults of lack of maintenance clear to be seen … damp walls with large cracks and only one stool apart from uncomfortable benches to sit on, we asked to use a chair from the other bar but they were all worn and wobbled.. a real shame a real pub is being left to deteriorate in this way but no doubt it will be lost to a big chain who will save it.

Wonderful local pub, with an authentic welcoming atmosphere and fine beverages, at reasonable prices.

Has a great homely feel to it, a bit like sitting in someone's front room.

Great pub! A group of us came in over the Weekend as part of our Pub Golf. The landlady is so lovely!!! (I think her name was Trish). She made us feel so welcome and we would definitely come again :)

Spent a very pleasant Sunday afternoon quaffing a few pints of Side Pocket with friends in comfortable surroundings. Clientele were suitably amicable and the lady behind the bar was a joy to behold. Will most certainly visit again. 🍻😁👍

Cosy pub with a hidden large beer garden - the pub should definitely have a sign outside letting people know of that hidden gem at the back. Could be a very cool setting with some string lights across the garden at night - maybe a wkd bbq etc. Another pint or 2 options on tap it would be class. Will definitely be back 😃

I love this place. Really characterful and a proper old fashioned pub. The beer is great - particularly the Landlord, IMHO.

saw a rat running around and had a hair in my drink. absolutely disgusting and really disappointing service in a pub on the high street.

Very traditional locals’ pub and, although I’m not a regular, I always love the welcome here from the regulars and lovely landlady. The garden out back is lovely in warmer weather but both of the rooms have open fires in the winter, so something all year round. I love the brass-inlaid cross keys in the wooden floor as you enter. Also the pewter top in the main bar, hanging tankards, and the second room that looks like your Grandma’s best front parlour! I would have taken more pictures but didn’t want to compromise the regulars’ privacy. Lovely pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord and, on the occasion of my late Sunday afternoon visit, free cheese & bread on offer. Great pub!

Probably the best Mediterranean tonic water in the whole of Harpenden. Also very tasty cheese and onion crisps and peanuts - yum! 😋

We visited on a wet Saturday , when required to still be outside . The landlady could not have been more helpful in finding us a table with shelter and ensuring that we were dry and could enjoy our afternoon . Excellent table service in Covid safe way , without it impacting at all on the great atmosphere , fantastic garden and brilliant personal service from the owner gong the extra mile for us .This was always a favourite place to visit when in Harpenden as it's so quaint ,however the customer service and attention on this occasion was superb. Thank you for making our time so enjoyable.

Nice cosy traditional pub. Good food and a fine selection of ales. Looks great at Christmas with a traditional tree and roaring log fire. In Summer a nice garden out the back in which to while away a Sunday afternoon.

Best pub in Harpenden. Cheap, quiet and simple.

Met our friends for pre dinner drinks and chat. Beautifully decorated for Christmas season we had great service at the bar where we stayed for the duration. Right in the town so very conveniently located. Enjoyed our visit.

I picked this little gem on purpose to meet up with family.The staff were very friendly and even extended the kitchen time for our lunch and the food was excellent and great value.Very Friendly regulars and we were made to feel very welcome.....highly recommended.

I popped in to the cross keys for abit of lunch and a drink and was pleaseantly greeted by friendly bar lady ordered soup of the day it was delicious highly recommend for lunch good drinks service and ideal for families clean toilets and bar area small and cozy

Went in for lunch today and was really happy with the affordable food and drinks. Food was great - traditional pub style. List of sandwiches etc very good value also. Great pints. Staff friendly and welcoming - would recommend

Always go in the Cross Keys for a few pints before we go out in Harpenden. It’s a traditional English pub with Traditional decor, stone floors etc. The bar area is relatively small and can get quite crowded but the garden area is good to sit if this is the case. Never had any problems with this pub what so ever and will be back next time I’m out with friends in Harpenden.

Been going to this pub for many years (at least 15+) but over the past year or so it's become a less pleasant experience. Dirty glasses, indifferent and slow service from regularly changing bar staff, the small bar area blocked by the same faces (who won't move and you have to order around/over them) and recently even the ever reliable pint of Landlord by Timothy Taylor was lack lustre. It's not always like this and efforts have been made to make the garden more welcoming (and Christmas decs were good), but the negatives are outweighing the positives and my friends are asking to meet at an alternative local hostelry.

You can tell as soon as you walk in that this is a popular pub. The age range of the clientele was varied and there was a friendly feel around the place. The staff were friendly and there was a good choice of beers and gins. I had a good pint of Tring and my wife enjoyed her Rhubarb gin. The pub was warm and comfortable too.

Lovely little pub - with an ideallic garden. No food in the evenings, although next door to an excellent fish and chip shop - the pub will allow you to use the garden to eat your food in, providing you buy a drink!
