The best restaurants in Althorne Maldon East of England

What a lovely little find! We were going to go elsewhere, but Essex Highways decided to close off most of the roads out of the Dengie on the same day and roads out were chaos! We actually live in a nearby village and had seen the signs to Manor House, but had never been. Relaxing decor, wonderful welcome and service. Food was great (recommend the smoked salmon bagel) and didn’t have to wait long. Lovely friendly lasses working there, homemade cakes and bread pudding , clean and welcoming….What’s not to like?

Away for a couple of days, we found this delightful cafe. We had ham, egg and chips in the afternoon. Beautifully presented, hot and so tasty (the ham was so good!) For breakfast the following day I had smashed avocado with poached eggs! Others in my group had full English and a bacon sandwich. All presented with a smile and a cheery chat. Beautifully clean cafe with such pleasant staff and a wonderful outlook!

Just had wonderful cappuccino and amazing coffee and walnut cake , this place is so so much better than anywhere else locally , a good selection of food and a friendly atmosphere . Highly recommended , pay them a visit and have cake

We wanted a sarnie and a cuppa on our way to visit St Peters on the Wall and chose this place as it was on the route…..more or less. We were so glad we did as we enjoyed generously filled sandwiches with full salad ( not just a few leaves) coleslaw and crisps and good coffee all at a very reasonable price and service with a smile. The cakes looked really good too.

Lovely pub. Great service. Food is well priced and tasty.

It was a group of us which helped, A good lot fun Laughter. I was able to hear each other talk. As on this particular day, midweek was only one other customer.

Had a Christmass meal with friends at this local pub. Staff very welcoming and food very good. The Christmas menu caters for most needs. We all enjoyed our meals

Excellent service, although small menu covered everything, did have a specials board nothing on there, but we went mid week. All meals freshly prepared and fresh. I did ask for extras which although not on the menu they accommodated. Fantastic food Good atmosphere, has facility for restaurant to be separated from bar area, hope this is done at busy times. Fantastic thank you

We stopped here for some lunch, really generous portions. Biscoff cheesecake was delicious! Staff very welcoming, as was the dog who greeted us on arrival. Would advise to book in advance as gets busy.

I have only had a couple of takeaways, but when I collect the restaurant always have a very nice atmosphere and the staff are friendly. From a food perspective for me the portions are not very generous, and there is not as much meat in the portion as other local Indian restaurants. So if they sorted that I would maybe buy from there more.

I absolutely adore this venue! It hosts fantastic events and boasts an incredible music scene. The outdoor patio is a favorite of mine, but what really makes this place special is the amazing staff and the delicious food. Since Morgan took over management, everything has become even more organized and delightful. I truly love this place!

Booked to meet up with family and received a very warm Welcome! Food was delicious and recommend the roast beef! Dessert were yummy too! Will be coming back and Roo the pub dog was the friendliest dog … who did have a tiny bit of beef…. Sorry… couldn’t resist the cute face x

Popped in for a cuppa having ridden past so many times and thought how lovely it looked. Inside, spotlessly clean and lovely American Diner decor. Really nicely done! So glad we stopped here. Owner very friendly, made us welcome. We'll worth a visit and I will defo return for something to eat next time! Geoff Grove

Really disappointed in what we hoped would be a lovely meal out and left feeling underwhelmed. The staff are welcoming and friendly but the quality of the food is not good value for money. The fish looks like it came out of a frozen box of two from Iceland. The coleslaw was warm and mainly sauce and not veg. I left it as I didn't trust how long it had been out of the fridge. Other than the chips which are lovely and the fresh salad in burger buns the food was 'cheap' being sold as restaurant quality and it's not. We understand times are hard but who ever is purchasing ingredients has gone too far. Please go back to quality ingredients.

Good customer service and good food. Prawn toast slightly overdone, wasn't keen. But everything else tasted Good. Ready within 10 mins.
