Went on Sunday, the three of us. Had not booked as it was a spur of the moment but we were warmly welcomed and accommodated. We each had the roast dinner and a dessert. The food was plentiful and well cooked. Friendly staff, great menu and a good atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Booked dinner for 7 (post xmas meet up of two families)having been a couple of times before. We weren't disappointed, lovely food large portions (if anything too big). Our friends very impressed especially with "doggy bag". Friendly welcoming staff attentive and helpful. Thank you Liz and staff. Will 100% be back. We needed somewhere to eat local to the marina, someone there suggested the Three Horseshoes so booking made (optional) and off we went. Lovely building, friendly greeting. Please take a good appetite because the portions are huge. Quality is not sacrificed however and we were delighted at the more than reasonable cost. Great looking garden with lots to keep the youngsters playing happily and safely

We just moved to the area and went here for lunch on our second day here. Service from Liz was lovely and homemade food really tasty for a fantastic price. Doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not and has a real family feel. Was a great welcome to the area. We have returned twice since, once for a roast, and never been disappointed. Book an early sitting on a Sunday if you want a choice of roast meats as it gets very busy!

I stopped off after a long day on my motorbike recently. I hadn't booked but was welcomed into the non booked room, which was light and airy and only three other people eating in the room. I had a lovely scampi and chips with Lemon Meringue pie for sweet. The lady who was serving behind the bar taking orders and waiting the tables was very friendly and willing to provide condiments required. I couldn't fault the service.

We have frequently eaten here for years and always had good food at reasonable prices. Now the government has instructed all pub/restaurant to close due to the Coronavirus Liz and her staff are offering a food delivery service. My wife and I, who are in our 70’s, have just had a superb roast dinner delivered to our home and you couldn’t ask for a better dinner served hot to your door. A very big thank you to Liz and all her staff.

In Essex for a sailing regatta, stopped here for a late Sunday lunch. Sign outside saying "Fine wines" was appealing and suggested something decent. Horrid interior, dreadful "garden" and basic pub food. Wines were 2 x cheap screwcaps and barmaid laughed when I mentioned the "Fine wines" sign outside. I shall probably report the place to Trading Standards. Food was not terrible, just basic overcooked simple veg, no sauces, watery, with watery gammon "roast" and the fish & chips was greasy - just typical 1980s basic pub food. Possibly confusing quantity (plenty) with any form of quality. Avoid if you are at all discerning.

Last minute decision for a meal out, decided on a local pub The Three Horseshoes in Althorne which we’d visited before. Once again no problem just turning up and a table for two was available from the very welcoming staff. Ordered our food and a drink and waited. When the food arrived we were not disappointed, the portions were huge!! Seeing what the other diners were getting it was not unusual for such huge portions. We would highly recommend and certainly come back again.

Went for lunch expecting it to be as it was on our last visit which admittedly was a few years ago. Certainly not as inviting. Food was always lovely but on ordering cod and chips it was absolutely tasteless! My husband ordered spotted dick but got a plain sponge. Spotted dick is made with suet!! And has sultanas in it!! Also my husband has a bad back and we were told we couldn't sit in the restaurant. Had to sit in the bar on seating that really didn't help. One man came in and stood at the bar for a long time. No one came out to see to him and he walked out. shan't be visiting there again.

Popped into the Three Horseshes for an early evening meal after a long day and was looking forward to a meal here as it was so pleasant last time we were there.I don't know what was happening when we arrived but we stood at the bar looking towards the kitchen for 5 minutes waiting for someone to serve us. For the first time I'm submitting a less than glowing review. Nothing was up to the standard of previous visits. Atmosphere was lacking, service was patchy, food was lacklustre (although portions remained huge) and prices seemed to be creeping up. Hopefully just a "blip" as The Three Horeshoes is our "go to" venue for excellent pub grub at reasonable prices.

Their choice of meat is extensive along with a hearty serving of vegetables and proper cauliflower cheese! For those of you who are ravenous, they do large servings too although the standard has always been more than enough for us. Great selection of desserts on offer too, if you can manage it...and clearly we do! The staff are fantastic and very friendly. Quite why they do so well is a bit of a mystery to us. The Sunday lunch we had: meat was good and plentiful, but the vegetables were a little tired. But on our visit the service was just not up-to-scratch. Drinks immediate. Menus? A while. Meal? A while. And then? Nothing. As a mere male the dessert is, or ought to be, a highlight. But no menu was brought, plates not taken away. Eventually we paid up and walked away. So not a dining experience to remember (at least not for the right reasons). This was our 4th visit and we've had two good experiences and two, not so good. Sad.

We have been to this place 4 times now and on the first 3 occasions we were very disappointed, but so many people said it was really good, we felt we may have just been there on "off days"so thought we would give it another try, big mistake, the service was slow, you don't get a menu, just get referred to a board on the wall, which means standing next to other dinners whilst they are eating, so you can read the board, my wife and our friends lasagne was ineligible, our friend ordered a drink with no ice, when the drink arrived the glass was full of ice, we did get an apology from the " scruffy " chef and wasn't charged for the lasagne, but overall very poor and definitely won't be going back.

The Three Horseshoes is a small but very cosy little place with reasonable seating for groups. I believe booking is best as it seemed to be very busy especially at lunchtime when we went. The meal, Roast Lamb, was very well served up with roast potatoes and vegetables which were all well cooked and very enjoyable. Service was prompt and very efficient and we did not have to wait long for our meal. My only moan would be the fact a group of children came into the meal area and opened the outside doors to go out to play in the yard. The constant coming and going of the children made the room very cold as the outside temperature had dropped considerably. This aside, I would certainly go back again for another meal..

This place has shabby decor and could do with being brought up to date. The choice of food is good but what we had was a let down. My dining partner had bacon egg and bubble and squeak. He said the bacon was very dry and just broke away on the plate, I asked him how was his bubble and squeak, which he replied was a bit of mash with red onion through it. The fried egg was the best bit of this dish. I had omelette chips and salad, the mushrooms were of the frozen variety ie full of water and the salad had balsamic vinegar poured over it , which I was unable to have. The omelette was small and very cleverly placed on top of some chips so it appeared bigger than it was. We had a chocolate fudge cake with cream for desert, the cake was warm and the cream fridge cold which would of been better if the cream was not as cold. The citrus crumble, well small in portion size, and very plain . The other most annoying part about our visit was the very loud over powering voice of the barmaid, we could not hold a conversation between us as her voice echoed throughout .. Very rude we thought and we won't certainly be back.

Our organiser had pre-booked for a post ramble meal at The Three Horseshoes, and after a windy but very pleasant ramble down to the river, along and back, the five of us were ready to test our tastebuds. Our walkers have been before and reports were excellent but it was my first meal there. If you really want value for money,an excellent menu, and really fantastic tasting food I don't think this venue can be beaten.Twinned with a very welcoming and friendly staff it is a place I will return to again and again.Where can you,at this moment of time, get two courses for £5.50 or £7.00 depending on your personal choice.A more extensive menu is available should you wish to indulge yourself. With the proportions being generous you won't leave hungry, but you will be back again!

After moving to the Dengie a few weeks ago, we finally stopped for an afternoon late lunch at the Three Horseshoes. The moment we opened the door, we were greeted by friendly staff who sat us at a table. We were shown the menu board on the walls and counted over 20 hearty and welcoming choices including vegetarian options (Which I am). Over a drink we had so much choice and finally made our selection. The wait staff was super friendly and conversation was easy. We told her that we have just moved around here and she recommended places for us to visit which was an added bonus. Our meals were served (I had blue cheese mushroom and jacket potatoes with salad, my husband had steak and ale pie with mash. The food was well presented, wholesome and had great flavour, I was actually sad when I finished mine (a sign of a good meal). The staff had good banter with the other customers and themselves and it made me keen to return - before I had even left.So would I go again? You bet. This is now our appointed local and I feel very lucky this is on our doorstep. Well done Three Horseshoes, you ticked all the boxes!

We have lunch every two or three weeks and have had lovely food and brilliant service every time. You must book first and do it at least a week before you want to eat As it is so popular people eat there weekly!! Highly recommend it.

Dined here late Sunday afternoon. Good home cooked food at a very reasonable price. Service was also spot on. You get a choice of the size of meal you want, I went for the standard home made steak pie which was plenty, don't think I would handled the large version. We both enjoyed dining here and will definitely be returning at some time.

We go to this little pub at least once every two weeks for something to eat. Friendly staff who are accommodating, nothing too much trouble. Food is always brilliant, specials board changes regularly and had a large daily menu with plenty of choice. Usually need to book a table. A good pub that sells good food. Don't expect the Ritz when you walk in, it's a Grays pub, but it is always clean, well decorated and has a homely feel. Places to hang your coats, fires in the winter and garden in the summer.

We've lived in Burnham for 4 years now and are furious we haven't been to this place before. The food was gorgeous and great value for money, the staff and owners were lovely. I think my wife and I will be frequent visitors from now on. Also can't wait to take the kids there in the warmer months as the outside area for the kids looks great.

My wife and I came over to the three horse shoes pub for early evening dinner we both selected different burgers from the wonderful you ladies, barmaids, waitresses and after a fairly short Wait while we had a drink the dinners were brought to our table.I can only say the chef (apparently Dan) had performed a miracle and made not burgers but a fantastic culinary delight. If you haven't tried the homemade burgers here please do not take my word for it come and try!A huge thank you to the staff for making us welcome and to the chef for making sure we will be back!!

We as a family have been eating in the Three Horseshoes for 2 years, the quality of food here is amazing as is the price. Dave the chef and owner is top notch and Liz his wife is so friendly. Only problem is that you have to book as they are fully booked most of the time.If you want good pub food at a price you can afford then go to the Three Horseshoes.Stuart & Sarah

we came across this restaurant by chance and have to say it is one of the best ever that we have visited. The owners and staff alike make you feel so welcome and you leave feeling that you`ve known them all for years. The food is excellent with a good variety to choose from and portions that you would not believe. We can highly recommend this pub/ restaurant. We were only on holiday for a week but managed to visit them three times and would certainly go again and again.

I've written a review for here before but have to do it again to reiterate what a fantastic little pub/restaurant this is! My husband and I visited last Saturday with my mum for lunch and the food was epic! The portions are huge, the bill is soooo reasonably priced and the staff are courteous and nothing is too much trouble. We came out feeling absolutely full and didn't need to eat anything at tea time! The only slight downside is that the decor is a bit dated but, at the end of the day, if you're not over fussed about the surroundings the food and service more than makes up for it! Would recommend The Three Horseshoes time and time again (book to avoid disappointment!).

My wife and I live close to the 'Shoes' and eat there almost every day. The food is freshly cooked and so reasonably priced that there is just no point in cooking at home. The menus is vast and caterers for most tastes. Given adequate notice in advance the skilled chefs will cook any meal you want, nothing seems to be too much trouble. All the staff are very pleasant and welcoming.

not been for a couple of months, but went today and we both had roast beef, i don't know if the chef has changed, but the food was definitely not up its normal standard, i would say the food was average at best which is a shame as the food has always been top notch before

This was my second visit and my husbands third so apologies for nor reviewing sooner. This place is an absolute gem. Great food, lovely team. I had a fish finger sandwich in lovely granary bread, my daughter had a cheese toastie and the hubster (on his first trip out after knee replacement surgery) had a cooked breakfast. Everything was delicious. We also had a couple of chip sides...just fantastic! We were beaten but had a couple of cake takeaways too. The chocolate cake and fruit cake have been given a big 5/5 this afternoon. Thanks to the lovely ladies that looked after us today

Visited Black pig on a Sunday morning for brunch and it was very tasty. The presentation of the dishes is fantastic along with the excellent ingredients make each meal very enjoyable. We ordered the veggie brunch and Eggs Royale which I added a portion of streaky bacon as an extra. We also had the hash browns as a side dish which would have been nicer if the portion was for four and not three to save fighting for the odd one . Overall well worth a visit for some quality food.

The food was ok nothing special but the worst thing was it was only card payments which we was not told when ordering as we always pay cash and when I asked if we didn't have cards with us how's would we pay then they told us that they would ask us to phone a friend and get them to make the payment.i went to the ferry boat inn not who wants to be a millionaire TV show

What an amazing little find. Friendly staff, clean venue and setting outside. Some lovely touches like blankets for outdoor seating, lovely beach feel and nice chilled music. Not too loud. If you get a chance definitely pop in and support this independent business! Thanks guys, the coffee was superb.
