Hardy's Pub & Restaurant in Maldon

Excellent service, although small menu covered everything, did have a specials board nothing on there, but we went mid week. All meals freshly prepared and fresh. I did ask for extras which although not on the menu they accommodated. Fantastic food Good atmosphere, has facility for restaurant to be separated from bar area, hope this is done at busy times. I had an ox cheek lasagna with garlic bread and it was by far one of the tastiest lasagnes I’ve ever had with real shreds of meat in, it was delicious! One of our party had a nut allergy and they were really friendly and accommodating! Highly recommend this hidden gem for brilliant food

The food was absolutely spot on! & incredible value! well worth the trip to Mayland for! Will be re-visiting very soon! Also, the staff were lovely! 5 stars 👌🏼

Well worth a visit to Hardys, got a little lost when driving but super glad we did. The Korean noodle bowl was fab and ask the chef to add a touch of heat if that’s your thing, I wish I had..but the dish was still tasty. Wonderful service and helpful waitress with narrowing down choices. Wish I had room for dessert.

We had a great family meal, the food was really delicious and the staff were friendly and very efficient.

Three years ago I said to my hubby “what Mayland needs is a place for women to go that’s non threatening and fun, like a cocktail and tapas bar”! It seems that Stuart, owner of Hardy’s, was listening. I have just got back from there, his new cocktail tables and bar area are lovely, the tapas was very reasonably priced (£4 a dish or four dishes for £15) and the passion fruit mojito 👌🏻. I’m definitely going back but next time with my girlfriends.

Always had a pleasant experience, Friendly staff and great decor. The new cocktail bar has got so much to choose from and at a great price, Goes great with the new tapas menu.

Have enjoyed a few meals here since the new chef started at the end of January. They have all been amazing ! Traditional pub food but raised to the next level.

I was staying at the marina for the evening so thought I’d try this local pub. Well I wasn’t disappointed. It was only me and my dog but was made to feel very welcome. I didn’t have any food so cannot comment on that but the beer (I was drinking the Pravha) was very good! The dog was made very welcome and was offered water. The staff and customers were all friendly. They had live entertainment and nice vibe! What more can you want? Give it a try I’m sure you will enjoy!

Food was quite nice. But, places that put the cheap @rappy sauces on the table are basically saying that they don’t really care about serving quality food. Why they do this is beyond me! If I buy something from a pub or restaurant, why would I want put rubbish mustard or brown sauce on it?? If you put this stuff on tables, then I assume this is the quality of the ingredients in the kitchen. Please take a bit of pride in what you do, and don’t skimp on stuff like this.

We have visited many times before and enjoyed previously, we was really disappointed on our recent visit. Not only with the food but the service too. I ordered the cod and chips the cod was horrible the batter was slimey and so was the cod couldn’t eat much of it all. My daughter ordered the lasagne which was covered in so much cheese it made it greasy and she had to scrape it off to be able to eat it and the salad had so much dressing on it was sloppy. My partner ordered the scampi which had been cooked for too long so it was dry. Service was quick taking our orders but the chef was bringing out the food which makes me wonder what the waitresses were there for. Usually when we visit you get a friendly welcome and goodbye didn’t receive that this time. Limited choice of menu which we understand for was Easter Sunday but that shouldn’t mean the service and quality of meals is limited too.

Popped into Hardys for dinner with the family on my way home from work. Always greeted with a smile and the food is good. Just simple good old fashioned pub food with a few extra dishes such as fajitas to take care of those that want something different. We are by no means regulars but probably get to eat here every 3-4 months. Can highly recommend Stuart and his team who are always willing to do anything extra that you ask for. Very accommodating!

Just been for a meal with the wife kids and friend. Had a fantastic meal that was really enjoyed. Service was spot on and had a very relaxing atmosphere. If you have not had the chance to eat there yet I would 100% recommend it. Only negative was that they have taken chicken wings off the menu.

Sunday lunch here is awesome if you like a traditional roast. Atmosphere is laid back and relaxed and nicely furnished and decorated, and with the cold weather the real fire is lovely.

What a fantastic night was had at Hardy's Mayland Essex on Saturday. The music, the food and company was 5*****. Once again thank you to Elaine Stu, DJ and all the gang for making this a very special birthday for my husband. These nights are so special well organized and great value. So go on give this fabulous place a try and you will not be disappointed.

Well I just wanted to say what a fantastic night we had as a family the food here was absolutely gorgeous and the Elton tribute was like the real thing looks and sounds got everyone too. It was my dads surprise 65th birthday and the staff Dj made my dad feel very special. I would highly recommend this place for a girls night out couples or family !!!!!!! 10/10 and want to do another night out

Fantastic night at Hardys, Elton John was off the chart. Great selection off the all his hit songs and a cracking three course meal. All showcased by DJ Dan. Bar staff worked there socks off. Highly recommend

Firstly, an inviting welcome, secondly the food was first rate and our thanks go to Gary the chef and lastly great entertainment by 'Elton' and by D.J.Dan who cemented the evening as a whole. A small venue that had the wonderful feel of village living, a most enjoyable and entertaining evening.

Had my surprise 50th party in the new function room here. Hardys did the excellent buffet for everyone ( i know it was good as not a crumb left!) They allowed my son to decorate with banners & balloons, the owners Stuart & Elaine are very accommodating everyone had a fantastic night!!

Thanks to Elaine, Stu DJ Dan and all the Crew we had another fantastic night at Hardy's Bar and grill with brilliant entertainment with a tribute act to Frankie Valli Tributei - brilliant singer/entertainer.

Had a great night at Hardys last night great hosts great food great impersonator and great DJ also the venue was full of lovely local people. We have had meals there twice now having visited my daughter as we live in Romford and can't wait for the next event, keep up the great work guys

We had an amazing night at Hardy’s this evening for the Frankie Valley Tribute night with DJ Dan. Food was lovely, service and staff were amazing and the entertainment was excellent. Myself, my parents, Inlaws and husband all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was nice to be in a pub where the Landlord generally cares about his customers and whether they are having a good night.

Had a meal with my family today and the food was lovely and the staff were great too. Can’t wait to go back.

Held a Ruby Wedding Anniversary there. 50 of us.The welcome, the food, the ambience and service were excellent. Even serving so many with 3 courses the food was hot,portions were large and it was very tasty. Enjoyed by all.Thankyou.

I have recently been here for a Sunday lunch and a midweek meal,each time we have had excellent friendly service and the meals have been great. Nice atmosphere and great staff,nothing too much bother.

We visited as part of a group for a celebration meal and the restaurant provided excellent and friendly service and delicious food served in generous portions. A very enjoyable visit and will definitely return when in the area.

We regularly drive to Hardy's from Woodham for their Liver, onions & bacon as well as Fish&chips. Yesterday we arrived famished, to be informed that the menu has been cut down and my partner's favourite was no longer available!The new scaled down menu is nothing more than what you would expect of a roadside Cafe, certainly not a place claiming to be a Bar& Grill.Partner settled for lasagne while I stuck with the fish & chips. Well what a disappointment as the lasagne was dry and the chips.....well they were fries rather than the chunks chips!As for my fish & chips, what can I say......other than I was sorely disappointed. My fish was half the size it had always been and the chips were fries and dry!We certainly will not be going back.Very disappointing and sad that a place we had come to look forward to going to for lunch every month, has turned into a run of the mill cafe!The staff remain outstanding I must add and always serve with a smile and genuine concern for the customer experience.As for the fantastic full English breakfast that I used to enjoy with my girlfriends several times a year......that too is a thing of the past, as the management has deemed fit to stop this and only open from noon!Poor show!

Just arranged to meet up with friends for a meal. Have eaten here on many previous occasions and been very happy. Now they have scaled down the menu ( more of a choice in McDonalds and better value. Still showing the old menu on the web. The pool table has now been moved into the old restaurant area and,although it was great to see people enjoying pool, not what I want to see when eating. Pub used to be full at 8 on a Friday night but seems empty now. Atmosphere gone. We cancelled and went elsewhere. Very disappointed as feel a great local asset has been lost. Won't be back

Yet another lovely meal at Hardys. Friendly welcome, as always, staff sweet and polite. Meals are big and exactly how you want it done. I have a vegetarian daughter and a hubby that hates vegetables! Both catered for well. Great!

I've been here on a few occasions and always had a great time the theme nights are always a good night and the dj really makes it. I have eaten here to really nice food at good prices myself and my friends have always been made to feel welcome, if you visit here you won't be disappointed.

Had a great night at Hardys. Food was well cooked and generous portions. We were entertained by a very good singer followed by a comedian who had us all in tears of laughter. Will definitely be going again.

what can i say except ..great food.great staff..very welcoming and friendly place..been here a few times now with the family and without the kids..lol.. every time i visit its just as good as the first time,never had any problems with the food ,always tastes great and the kids love it too..would definitely recommend to my family and friends to go here..

The new function room at Hardy's takes dining there to a higher level and the new lighter menu gives me the opportunity to have a starter or desert with my main course. Brilliant guys!The servers were attentive and observant of my needs without being "in my face". Overall. I enjoyed a relaxed family meal at a very reasonable price. I will return time and time again. What I don't understand is why Hardy's is not the top restaurant in Mayland. I've eaten in them all and Hardy's is the best.

I have been going to Hardy's for nearly two years now. Both the restaurant and bar are great, with good service provided by the team. Chefs are amazing and provide excellent quality, large meals for a decent price. People of all ages are welcomed into Hardy's and the staff are always friendly. With their new added bi-folding doors, customers can enjoy a meal in the restaurant without interruption from the bar should there be sports playing, allowing for everyone to have a great time.

This pub & restaurant is excellent. The Food & entertainment on an event evening was 1st class. The Landlord and staff extremely welcoming and friendly. Great time. Looking forward to another event evening.

I have eaten here with my family on many occasions over the last two years. The manager and staff are exceptional! They are attentive and make you feel at home. We feel very special every time we go there. I would say that the food is British done right! My wife says it is the Best of British! I've never been disappointed, and the quality has always been more than I expected.We love this place!

Not only is the food good and staff so nice now hardys have there festive decorations to cheer the gloomy days and evenings with a warm open fire and Christmas decorations That makes you so much warmer and happyThank you Stuart and staff . It's a must to come to the pub if only for a beer to cheer the day on.

After a deliberation I ordered the Sunday roast beef. The dinner was superb with my Sunday pint.There was a special board with a desert of Ginger,rum and raisin pudding. I ordered it This was outstanding ,Thank you Gary and staff for a great meal!

Fantastic meal, huge portion only disappointment was that after the main course I couldn't fit a pudding in. Really friendly staff, we'll be back again.

We went to Hardy's for the Sunday roast, but once we arrived after seeing the many great sounding dishes on the menu we wasn't sure what to have!In the end I had the special of the day starter, battered king prawns which were delicious and the roast beef for main and although I don't normally have a desert I couldn't resist the chocolate brownie and ice cream.All dishes were lovely and large portions served by friendly efficient staff. We will return to try some of the other items on the menu.

Staff very helpful in explaining the menus and specials.Settled for hunters Chicken which was very well presented and beautifully cooked. Clean well laid out dinning area, separate bar area.Well worth a visit if you are the area.

We had dinner here twice last week as we have been in previous years.Its a warm and friendly welcome with a well judged menu.Food is well presented with generous portions.We always had the house red wine which went down very well.A good choice to eat and drink in Mayland.

Situated in a quiet residential area away from any main road I got the feeling that the place is use to its 'regulars'. That be said the staff smiled and we're polite & curtious.We were visiting our elderly aunt who lives locally, so decided to try Hardy's.The food was an absolute delight!Apart from some tough roast potatoes the food couldn't be faulted!We had the mushrooms with cibatta, pork belly strips and pate' with cutney for starters, which we all agreed were very nice and the portion sizes were huge on EVERYTHING! LolWe asked for the kids meals (mini kids roast {£5} and spag bol) to come out with the starters which they did & they were huge too!Followed by the adult Sunday Roasts {£10} (turkey and beef) ~ Lovely.Chicken Fajitas & the Carbonara. All so lovely and tasty!We ordered for deserts the Cherry Bakewell pudding with Ice Cream, Salted Caramel Fudge Cake (BIG hit!) and Crunchie Cheesecake & kids Chocolate Brownie and Ice cream. Not that I had any, but there wasn't any complaints! LolIn total there was 6 adults and 2 children, in all our bill was £170.That was with 2 bottles of wine and plenty of cokes.Not sure how long it will be until we are in the area again, but would like to visit again!And lastly, love the decor and the music play list! Good choice! :)

A peculiar pub. I had a meal here in december last year, and whilst the food was nice enough we were the only table in the building so it was short on atmosphere. When i have been here for a drink this month I have been told not to drink anywhere else in the village, with some vehemence. I found the attitude of the staff leaving something to be desired.

3 of us had dinner in here tonight and I was really impressed with the quality and quantity of the food. We had main courses and deserts; the main food was well presented, came out really hot and was clearly fresh. The deserts were delicious and came with the choice of cream, custard or ice-cream. We were even given the choice of cream style. The customer service was excellent, the young lady who served us very friendly and polite. The choice of food was typically pub food, but ranged from Mixed grill to Scampi, to Lasagne to Steaks. Price wise main courses ranged from £9.00 upwards and deserts were mainly £5.00. The restaurant part of the pub is clearly sectioned off, and the whole area was spotlessly clean. There was a nice outdoor area with benches undercover so lovely to sit at on a summers evening. 5 min walk down to the sea wall - great way to burn off a great dinner. .

3rd visit to this location this year and still a pleasant experience. The staff are very friendly, good atmosphere, good food.Ten of us for a meal staff rearranged tables so that we all sat together, not one complaint about food. Will be doing another family get together here later this year.

Hardies pub in Maylandsea has Great pub food and a very friendly atmosphere. It is only a few hundred yards from the sea with many sea birds and boat yard. Highly recommended.

Had Sunday lunch last week as we have done many times was surprised that there was no mention of the usual roast on the board or indeed on any of the menus, although we were told there was chicken and beef which we all had. The bill was incredibly expensive for 3 X starters 4 X roasts and 3 X desserts and a not by any means large amount of drinks compared to previous visits and nowhere up to the usual standard. Have been looking for new management signs or any other indication of why this would be - Sharon

Having been to Hardy's a couple of times in the past for a Sunday lunch (both times the food was good enough), I was excited to try the breakfast. The "Big English", which was two of pretty much all you could want in a fry up came out and was a generous portion and tasted great. However, I was astounded by the price of £12 for a fry up, I wouldn't even expect to pay that in London and in comparison to other places nearby where you can get an equally good breakfast for pretty much half the price, it is hugely overpriced. Overall, the food is good and I must add that the lunch menu isn't overpriced at all, but I think something needs to be done about the price of a fry up.

Visited for lunch and was amazed at the size of the portions. Service was very good and the food was good quality. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant / pub.

Husband and I been a handful of times, we loved the Sunday roast, lots of it and all tasty. Will be returning soon

I went there with my wife and family to celebrate my Son and his lovely wife on there tenth wedding anniversary, we had the room partitioned off just for us. The landlord laid on sandwiches and nibbles, DJ was good as was the singer all courtesy of the Land lord. Great atmosphere. My son visits here regularly and always says the food is good, so its his recommendation really.

we popped in for lunch, there were five adults, we ordered cheese omelette, two baguettes, and two of us had the spicy prawns from the specials board. The service was friendly, helpful and efficient, the crockery, cutlery, and table were spotlessly clean. We all agreed that the meals were good value and certainly filled us up, the ham baguette had several slices of thickly carved, tasty ham and the tuna baguette was well filled and tasty.The outside area is sheltered and pleasant even though it looks out on the car parking area. The inside is divided into an eating area and a bar, all tastefully decorated and having a pleasant ambience. I would thoroughly recommend this bar and will certainly be returning

A wonderful lunch served by polite and superb waitress and cooked to perfection By the chef , it was a cockney them day and had fantastic jellied eels for a starter there was pie mash and liqueur on the special board but opted for the lamb lunch . All fantastic .. Thank you to all the staff That makes hardys a nice place to be !

Lovely food. Attention to detail is brilliant. Staff excellent. They were training new staff and informed us before taking our order. They also had a new chef. Fantastic service. Only comment I'd like to make is, Please supply toilet roll for ladies with a larger than size 8 bum. Lol x

The menus were given to us as soon as we sat down and after careful consideration we all found a starter and ordered our Sunday roast.the starters were finished and enjoyed and after a short break we were served our roast dinners,and the all the dinners were cooked to perfection .thank you Gary!

I had a surprise dinner planned by my wife attended by my friends the dinner was superb the service was outstanding And without doubt was the best evening I have had for ages thank you all the staff for making it so!

My brother lives in the area and suggested a visit to Hardy's as a change from our usual lunch venue. I did what I usually do and had a quick peek on here. One of the things that I always find refreshing is an owner who takes time to respond, so Hardy's already had a few brownie points before we got there. The pub is well set out, bright and welcoming. The staff, very polite and friendly. Most of us had the Cajun chicken burger and it was very well done, just Cajun seasoning, no breading or fake stuff no frozen chicken. It was fresh, well cooked and juicy. Good selection of beers and just a nice family friendly pub. Well done! Highly recommended.

I have been to Hardy's a few times and I must admit it is one of the best restaurants I have ever had the pleasure to eat in. The staff are friendly and always wanting to help you, the portions are absolutely amazing and the atmosphere is always extremely fantastic. At last minute we decided to go for a meal Saturday evening, but my husband fancied a drink, so we decided to stay local. We was welcomed through the door, the decor was nicely done. We was shown the table we reserved, sat next to a lovely photo of Sean Connery & Elvis whom are my favourite idols! We ordered a lovely bottle of Pinot Grigio, it was very refreshing. We was shown the menu, which had a great variety of foods. I am a fussy eater and found a good selection to eat, was spoilt for choice! I had the New York chicken in the end with chips & salad. My husband had the steak & ale pie, which chips & peas. The aroma that was coming from the kitchen was lovely. When the food arrived, it looked delicious! My salad was ab fab & the chicken was so tender and moist which flavoured nicely with the BBQ sauce. My husband loved the pie, he was pleased it had a pasty bottom, which he don't get that often. He enjoyed the pie & said it was filled with great chunk of tender beef, his plate was empty! We had a look at the dessert menu, again a good selection. I had the crumble & custard, it was yummy! My husband had the pudding with custard, he said it was perfect portion & tasted lovely. We both had coffee afterwards. The service was great, we was looked after well. We really enjoyed the Meal & atmosphere was good. We be looking forward to coming back here. It's a place to visit!

After a long day not realising how late it was,found that our guest and I hadn't eaten so I rang to see if hardys was still doing food,and to my surprise the full menus were available We quickly got to the pub and had a great meal all three of us had different meals and all were freshly cooked.Thank you again

2 dishes had burnt batter on the fish, The waitress didnt ask us how our meals were until it was too late. We informed them it was burnt and she simply said she would tell the chef. So paid £14 each for burnt fish.

This is our favourite place to eat in the Dengie and the food was always very good. The quality of the steaks at our last visit was so amazing and we were told that the restaurant now sources it's food from local suppliers where they know the farm and growers that supply them

Went here lunch time for a spot of food with a group of friends. Staff were very welcoming warm and friendlyIv never been here before but I understand it's been recently refurbished. It's clean, nicely laid out and areas separate out side to eat drink and smoke.Also worth noting its a 5/top marks on the hygiene rating!The food was all great we all ordered a varied selection from salads, burgers and pie and chips, all of which was severed together and promptly (steak and ale pie with veg and chips plus gravy was a amazing!)Will definitely be visiting again and is highly recommended!

Recently visited hardys for the first time. We were greeted with a warm welcome from the manager and seated in the restaurant side. As soon as we're seated out our table we could hear a lot of noise from the bar side due to the football being on. We were surprised just how noisy it was so if your expecting a quiet meal avoid during the football! Both sections aren't separated by a full wall.The menu has a lot of choice and the portions are generous. The children's menu is also very good and the staff are only to happy to cater to any requirements. We had a nice meal with good service, would visit again if in mayland.

Just been out for a family meal. Landlord gave a treat to the kids. Brilliant food reasonable prices lovely friendly clean bar and restaurant. If you are in the area make sure you give this place a visit.

We had a lovely meal here a week or so ago with our friend who lives locally. there was a very warm welcome from the Manager and all the staff were so pleasant and helpful. The food was Great, generous portions and very tasty, and great value too.We will definately be coming back.

We all enjoyed our fantastic Sunday Roast at Hardy's. For Desert i chose a cheesecake which was one of the nicest I have ever had. The Restaurant is very attractive with comfortable chairs and plenty of space between the tables and the staff were very helpful and attentive. Thank you Hardy's for making Mother's Day so special.

Me and my partner took our 1 year old with us for some lunch today. I had lasagne which was one of the best I've had it was a perfect size portion. My partner had the lamb roast which he said was lovely but disappointed with the veg ( corgette, coliflower and carrots ) and our little boy had chicken nuggets chips and peas which was a big portion for a 1 year old but for older children it would have been fine. We all enjoyed the food but I felt they needed more staff as it was busy with a few large groups so we felt like we were forgotten about. We were served straight away for our main meal but it took a while for our empty plates to be taken and to be offered dessert, we were given the menu but it took so long for the waitress to come over our son started to get restless and tired so we just got the bill instead . Very friendly and welcoming.

I had a lovely meal with my wife from the revised menu,the food was as tasty as it looked and the prices are without doubt as reasonable for the quality of food, as possible. We have a great asset in the village of having this family orientated pub with staff that is always polite and courteous and Friendly to make everyone welcome. I would recommend family and friends to Hardys every time

Hardy's is always our first choice when eating out, a friendly family pub and restaurant with a great atmosphere, Managed very well which is important to us as I often have my 6 year old Daughter with me and I feel 100% safe in Hardy's, consistently excellent food, excellent service to the highest of standards! Having had Sunday lunches before here, we decided to go today as we had just arrived home from holiday and to save us cooking. As usual the friendly staff looked after us and served up a wonderful full plate of beautiful meats and vegetables. Too full up to have dessert. Thoroughly recommended.

Saturday after dinner there was a live band singing covers from many artists.all were well sung and was great entertainment all staff were happy and without doubt making everyone in good moods and as usual Stuart on top form welcoming everyone with a smile.food always very good and the bar is always clean. At this time of year there are lots of Christmas decorations and an open fire making a wonderful atmosphere for one and all .All in all please visit here you won't regret it.

Hardy's never cease to provide great meals with fresh food and a good choice. The Fisherman's feast is exactly what is says on the tin. Cod, scampi, prawns with chips and trimmings. Excellent. The wine choice is good plus several real ales make this an ideal eatery. 5 stars.

I had organised a minibus mystery tour for family & friends for my partner's 70th birthday. We stopped here for lunch based on it's reviews. We were not disappointed. Very nice venue with good food & good service.Thank you for contributing to a lovely day out.
