On the Latch in Maldon

This was my second visit and my husbands third so apologies for nor reviewing sooner. This place is an absolute gem. Great food, lovely team. I had a fish finger sandwich in lovely granary bread, my daughter had a cheese toastie and the hubster (on his first trip out after knee replacement surgery) had a cooked breakfast. Everything was delicious. We also had a couple of chip sides...just fantastic! We were beaten but had a couple of cake takeaways too. The chocolate cake and fruit cake have been given a big 5/5 this afternoon. Thanks to the lovely ladies that looked after us today

Visited this place yesterday end of Feb '24, we were not disappointed, greeted nicely, shown to our table, received the menu's which if you can't find something you like then you must be ultra fussy. Anyway the service is good, the food was good, ambiance was very nice, plus they do put on music nights, car shows, etc', staff were friendly and adjusted one of our dishes to suit requirements, and they didn't mind doing it, which says a lot. On a side note, they'll know whose written this, as when talking I mentioned the fact that we'd driven past so many times but this was the first visit, it certainly won't be the last that's for sure.

Love this place . Excellent breakfast. Very friendly staff. Good value for money . Child friendly . There is a petting zoo on the sight at a small cost and trampolines. The outside area is lovely on a warm day but equally as nice inside. Dogs are allowed inside and out . Breakfast is served up to 11.30am . Going for lunch this week . Watch this space for review.

We've been here six or so times now always very welcoming, Excellent service, someone greets you as soon as you walk in and takes you to a table. Food is always very good, and very reasonably priced. Here's to our next visit.

Oh my... What can I say... Fabulous place. Beautiful, interesting decor, lots of different seating areas, both inside and out. Very friendly staff. Excellent food and portion sizes. Definately Google everything they do there.... Cannot reccomend highly enough.

We wanted somewhere to watch the Football World Cup and by chance found this gem! Lovely atmosphere .... a very warm welcome and the service was outstanding. The food served was delicious and well presented. Can't wait to return . Thank you for making our Sunday very enjoyable. Shame about the football result!

We came here after being recommended by family.. We had ham egg and chips which was the best! Portion sizes were ample and the food was cooked to perfection. So impressed that we decided to return for Sunday lunch a few days later. I am so fussy when it comes to a roast, but my gosh it was amazing! Service was great.. the girls are lovely… the chef? Sensational!! Thank you so much for two amazing lunches.. we will definitely return 😍

Came to ‘On the Latch’ because I was dragged here by the wife…. Sometimes we menfolk should just listen, this place was amazing. The surroundings were clean and warm, the service was quick and with a smile and the food was clean and fresh. Apparently they do a fantastic lunch menu (I had the breakfast) so will begrudgingly drag my carcass back to try it out 😏 Full marks and a wonderful experience - highly recommended.

Great place, went today because of word of mouth recommendation and found a gem of a place to eat and feel chilled out and good prices, I had ham egg and chips huge portions with salad and home made coleslaw my Mrs had fish finger sandwich that came with salad and crisps, very nice friendly place with great food will be back soon

2 weeks ago we had a family party at On the Latch. Everyone in the family said the venue was fabulous with beautiful lighting inside and out which added to the overall ambience. There was plenty of delicious food provided in the buffet and the cost of the hire, food and drink was very reasonable. We hired the Petting Zoo next door for an hour as a special treat for the kids (young and old) which they loved and DJ Dan for the music. It was a fantastic evening and our thanks to Tina and her team for a great time. Highly recommend.

We was all staying nearby and went here for lunch with family. Great menu, fantastic food and polite friendly staff what more could you want from a restaurant. We took cake home with us to later as was all full from lunch and I must say the chocolate cake was absolutely delicious!

Great food and atmosphere, staff are so helpful and friendly. Will definitely be back soon and will have the lovely cake next time.

Had my Christmas do at £35/head. Food was late being served, cold and poor quality with no attention to detail eg. Cranberry sauce offered halfway through the meal. Entertainment was canceled, a barmaid stepping which was nice - however not what we were expecting. We resulted in making our own entertainment. Toilets were external, like the dark ages, so coats on in -5degC temperatures! Would not recommend, for anything!

Fabulous roast, especially the Yorkshire pudding!! Very generous portions, both beef and lamb were tender and tasty. Also the cheesecake and crumble were amazing (these change weekly however we had Cadbury crane egg cheesecake - wow , so delicious - and apple and strawberry crumble...
