The Vintage Rose Tea Room in Maldon

Used to love visiting the Vintage Rose....the food is amazing....but... Im afraid the 'themes' put me (and my friends) off.....so wont return, such a shame..

Had lunch yesterday lovely little tea room run by a group of lovely ladies excellent service and food with a big smile highly recommended

Had an amazing afternoon tea for my friends birthday ( they even gave her a birthday card) We went for the Alice in Wonderland afternoon tea. The little touches were amazing and I have to say it was the best gluten free afternoon tea in Essex I have ever had. Staff were so friendly too and nothing was too much trouble! Would def recommend and we will certainly be booking for the Narnia afternoon tea in November/December.

First visit and definitely won’t be the last ! Had an afternoon tea and was a Harry Potter theme. Plenty of food and all fresh . Cakes were lovely . There was a lemon drizzle, chocolate mint and a cake with jam in the middle . There was a potion drink to start and plenty of drink of your choice ! Ours was tea. Staff were really friendly and very helpful .

I've been to the tea rooms several times for lunch but today was my first afternoon tea there. It did not disappoint. The vegetarian sandwiches were fresh and tasty. The scone and cakes were also delicious and there was so much we brought some home. Would recommend booking as it does get busy. Loved the Harry Potter theme and can't wait to see what it is in October when we are already booked in for our next visit!

Was booked in for an afternoon tea with my friend at lunchtime today as a birthday treat from her which I was really looking forward to. Unfortunately we arrived to a really awful atmosphere ...the owner was shouting and moaning at her staff who were not working fast enough for her. We and one other table were there with just a gentleman on his own. It was very awkward and we didn't really want to stay. We just ate our sandwiches which were nice and packed up our cakes and left. Considering it cost £60 for the two of us it was very disappointing. I would never humiliate my staff in front of customers. I felt very sorry for them.

Great little tea shop amazing sandwich’s and tea lovely scones all served on vintage crockery and great service only problem is I couldn’t try any other cakes that looked really tasty because I was so full Keep up the good work we will come back to maldon just to have a little something to eat here

Teas,coffees and a slice of happiness from people that care !! How great it is to have a big selection of hot drinks and delightful cakes & food made & served by friendly,caring and happy staff. We were pleasantly surprised at the choice, especially as the Millionaires cake I ordered was home made by a member of the team! These are people that obviously care about their business and that reflects in the service and food. Thanks for a great treat.

Tucked away in the alley close to Feathers in the High St. Toasted teacakes with butter / jam - lovely presentation . Great breakfast tea - all served In vintage china. Cosy hogwarts theme .....Looking forward to another visit .

Visted today for the first time and what a Gem, we will return. This has 2b the beat tea room in Maldon that nit overcharged.Its down a little street and unless u know its there or looking for it u would miss.. Had a wonderful lunch and cream tea it was all worth the money and staff were fantastic and thanked us for visiting.. Thank u so much x

What a great Cafe to have lunch when visiting Maldon. Unfortunately it’s down a side street and not really visible from the High Street, but try not to miss it. The menu is vast and suitable for all tastes including Gluten Free, Vegan and Vegetarian. The Sandwiches comes with Salad, crisps, potato salad and Coleslaw.Such good Value for the money you pay. It’s the second time we have eaten there and chose to sit outside as we had two dogs with us. The staff are really friendly and make you feel really welcome. Don’t walk past the Rosie’s Tearoom Sign at the end of the Alleyway as you won’t get a nicer lunch elsewhere.

Lovely friendly tea room. Brilliant lunch in there today, and their afternoon tea looked fantastic, will definitely have to go back for that.

Such lovely tea rooms, everything was spot on, the food delicious, service excellent, staff friendly and attentive, loved the Harry Potter theme, have also visited when it was Mary Poppins, can't recommend highly enough, you won't be disappointed visiting The Vintage Rose.

Wonderful tearoom! Afternoon tea was gorgeous, really good sized sandwiches which were crammed with filling. Scones were delicious and huge! Took the cakes away and even eating a few hours later they were still gorgeous. Harry Potter these was superb, so much attention to detail. Would highly recommend.

A wonderful gem of a coffee shop, beautiful decor, great service (staff are very attentive) and a beautiful themed afternoon tea. The attention to detail was spot on. I visited with my daughter and one afternoon tea between the 2 of us was the perfect amount. We will be back, and The Vintage Rose Tea Room is highly recommended by us.

This is by far the nicest tea room in maldon, food is excellent, ideas for the themed decor very good, staff very friendly and helpful, a visit there is a must.

A little gem tucked away in Maldon. Food very good with lots of choice to cater for many dietary needs. Hayley and team offered excellent service. We will be back!

Today we had a magical Narnia themed tea. The room is so atmospheric, with snow flakes and snow dusted trees, lampposts and twinkling lights. Greated with a very welcome frosted hot chocolate which set the scene for tasty sandwiches a huge scone with jam and cream, cake, chocolate and a pretty cardboard teapot with homemade Turkish delight. My friends and I enjoyed the food and setting very much. The veggie/ gluten free tea was imaginative and tasty. We will return.

From the moment you first walk in ! The decor is absolutely amazing ! So much care and thought gone into it ! The food on the afternoon tea is so filling ! So much quantity for the price ! I've tried a few afternoon teas in my time and this is definitely one of the best , in quantity, quality and price ! Kids will definitely love this place too !

I went here recently as the theme was Narnia ! What can I say! Its exceptional! The decor, the ambiance, the atmosphere! You can really see how much the owner cares about the place. The cakes are delicious, so moist and filling ! The cake portions are huge ! Well worth the money ! There are so many vegetarian and gluten free options , I Will definitely be back ! 100% recommend to anyone in the Maldon area ! It's a hidden gem !

I would 100% recommend this place to anyone ! I had the narnia afternoon tea ! It was 100% worth the money , the cakes were filling and the scones were delicious, but the cakes ? Wow !! They were absolutely exceptional! The owner is welcoming and friendly, nothing is ever a bother ! One of us is dairy free and they were so accommodating and made us feel so welcome . It is wheelchair and buggy friendly ,plus dog friendly too! So all the furry friends can join !

I booked a afternoon tea at The Vintage Rose for my mums birthday , what can I say ! They went above and beyond for us ! They even wrote a birthday card which is a lovely friendly touch ! The sandwiches were delicious, after asking for the menu in advance , I changed a few sandwiches as it didn’t suit our tastes , Hayley was nothing but accommodating to us. Nothing is ever a bother ! The cakes are so delicious, such a big portion. Well worth the money ! 100% recommend this place to anyone who has parties or events or birthdays! There is gluten free and vegetarian options too ! 10/10

We booked for a Narnia-themed afternoon tea. The cafe was prettily decorated and quite a lot of effort had been made. We were given hot chocolate to start and then the cake stands arrived. The sandwiches were fine but the scones and cakes were a bit dry, so much so that a couple of us left a few bits. I tried each of my 4 cakes and left all but a bite of two of them and most of a scone. We felt that the owner had tried to make an effort with the decor and the service was good, but the actual food was below average. We were rather shocked when we received the bill: £114 for tea for four people! If everything had been excellent I’d have thought it was quite expensive but as it was all mediocre I wasn’t impressed. Considering you can get an afternoon tea locally which includes a glass of Prosecco for £25 (at Le Bouchon at Heybridge), I think £28.50 per person is very overpriced.

Good points: nice ambience and crockery. Not so good: afternoon tea should always be about the cake. Sandwiches bulky and no choice of fillings. Scones - no choice of plain or fruit and were looked like rock cakes. Width slice of Victoria sponge was about 1.5cm and was so skinny it broke when you tried to pick it up and a debatable home made shortbread round. For £25 per head quality/quantity a rip off. Very tight space when full, needing to move for people wanting the toilet. If the food was amazing all the rest would go unnoticed.

Good things - quaint and cosy themed place, china wear/crockery all very cute, free refill on tea pot, sandwich size bigger than expected. Not so good things - the cakes lacked the wow factor. On afternoon tea, the cakes should be the wow part of the treat. The sandwich sizes were too big (no choice given on the fillings and not to everyone’s liking) compared to the very, very thin sliver of Victoria sponge. There was a shortbread biscuit and there wasn’t a choice on plain or fruit scones - they just turned up and that was it and they were more like rock cakes than scones.

Had a Hen party on the 30th September and it was absolutely amazing!! Sandwiches were completely fresh with great fillings, cakes were delicious and staff were consistent and very helpful with dietary needs. The cakes catered for everyone in our hen party being gluten and dairy free which not many places do. We had a wonderful time. Anyone wishing to book for a Hen party definitely should. I would 100% be booking another afternoon tea!!

Went for a hens do afternoon tea, had the tea room to ourselves as there were 14 ladies. Food was disappointing bread on the sandwiches was dry as had obviously been prepared ahead of time. Cakes were also sliced very thin. Unfortunately we won't be going back.

I came here the other day with few friends , they were very catering towards me being vegan and another one of us being vegetarian. There is so much on offer ! Most of their cakes are vegan and dairy free too ! Would 100% recommend ! Amazing atmosphere and very welcoming staff ! Will definitely be back !

We were on holiday from Manchester and were staying in East Mersea and decided to go into Maldon and came across this amazing tea room. It is amazing. I had a cream tea, my mum had a Tuna Jacket and my dad had a Cheese and Onion Omelette. The staff are lovely. Love that its themed as well. I recommend this place to everyone. I can't wait to visited again. Keep up the good work. Matthew xx

Charming tea room with varying themes every couple of months, food was lovely and the decorations / theme was wonderful. The tea room is tucked away from the hustle and bustle and we will definitely be back.

I love an occasional Cream tea and my step-daughter found the Rose Tea Room and took me here as a surprise. What an utter delight this place is! I was a little confused by the pictures (or lack of them) on Trip Advisor but reading other comments it seems as if the theme of the tea rooms changes periodically. I don't know for certain about that, but when we went it was a great Alice in Wonderland theme. It looked great, the staff are friendly and, most important of all, the cream tea was delicious and a very reasonable price (to be honest I'd have been happy to pay a bit more for it). We had a laugh trying on the White Rabbit hats. Tucked away off the main road, more people need to know about this. Kids would love it - this old kid did anyway!

Lovely little find. Walked from the prom with the Grandchildren 10-15 mins. Food was delicious, prepared fresh and milkshakes excellent too. We took some homemade cake away with us to enjoy later. Alice/mad hatters unbirthday theme, kept us all busy looking around and discovering everything

This is the cutest little tea room, so much going on to look at all vintage mismatched crockery very clean very friendly tucked of the main highstreet so nice and peaceful. Will definitely return

This lovely tea house was recommended to us by the lovely ladies in the Heritage Centre & the man in the T.I.C. We got the Wow factor on entering into the Harry Potter themed space! The two ladies serving were delightful and helpful. Our lunch of a sandwich, a panini with homemade coleslaw, crisps & side salad was a plate filler & very nice.

What a great little find. Popped in this afternoon for tea and cakes, and felt like we’d walked in on the set of Harry Potter. Some weeks ago the theme was Mary Poppins, and they’ve also done Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Will definitely go back, as the homemade cakes were amazing, as was the owner who makes them all.

Fantastic place! We went to have a light lunch, and both had the toasties - they came with loads of lovely salad, delicious homemade coleslaw and some plain crisps. I had the chicken, mozzarella and pesto toasties, which were gorgeous! Very generous helpings, it was a bit more than a light lunch. We also got a huge pot of tea, and the service was really friendly. The place was decorated with an Alice in Wonderland theme, which gave it a great atmosphere. Will definitely return.

Really nice staff and food huge selection of tea's in China cups and tea pots with LARGE coffee available too.

A charming little tearoom. We were made to feel very welcome and the service was excellent. Aside from the wonderful assortment of teas, coffees, hot chocolates and other drinks they also have a wide variety of cakes and sandwiches. We would definitely recommend this tearoom and will certainly revisit as dogs are welcome inside as well.

Lovely tea and cakes in a quirky Mary Poppins themed interior, or sit outside as we did and look at the blue sky. Off the main road but they have a board out so look out for it, all in all, a good find and one of the few tea rooms still serving at 4pm. Nice!

With masks on, we entered Lewis Carroll's Wonderland! Amazing decor! We expected the White Rabbit to run through at any time!The cheese sandwich was perfect: fresh bread and plenty of tasty cheddar; my wife's meal was presented with such care and attention: the salad was a work of art!I had the peppermint & nettle tea --- so refreshing.Friendly service throughout.We're going again today!

We accidentally came across this tearoom while walking around the high street and it was a great find. We had our dog with us so wanted a dog friendly place and they were very accommodating. The staff were very kind and friendly, and offered us a treat for our dog. We all had a cream tea and the scones were delicious, with plenty of cream, and tea came in lovely china. The menu was very extensive and we plan to come back soon.

We were down in Essex visiting relatives and came across this wonderful little tea room in Maldon. We all just had tea and scones which were some of the largets fresh scones we have ever had. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.
