Last night, we experienced a true feast of flavours @pretorestaurant in Colchester! 🥩 From the moment we walked in, the warm and lively atmosphere set the tone for an unforgettable evening. The rodizio-style dining was the highlight – endless cuts of perfectly grilled meats brought straight to our table, from succulent beef and tender lamb to juicy chicken and even Brazilian sausages. Each bite was packed with smoky, savoury goodness! 🤤 The salad bar was equally impressive, offering a wide variety of fresh, vibrant sides and traditional Brazilian dishes to complement the meats. We couldn’t resist trying a little bit of everything! 🌿🍅 The service was fantastic – attentive, friendly, and quick to ensure our plates were never empty. The team made sure we had an authentic Brazilian experience from start to finish. If you’re in Colchester and looking for a dining experience that’s as fun as it is delicious, we’d highly recommend Preto. Just be sure to come hungry – you’ll need the room! 😅

Dreadful service, had to ask if I could sit down, and if my food would brought to me. Despite the pretty lady in front of me beside by spoke. To by both employees, I stood waiting and then had to ask if the transaction was actually finished… clearly more important things to do than speak directly with a customer, Jacob. Also, can’t use reward drops.

We booked 3 nights at the Red Lion having stayed there many years ago. We booked for meals each night and the email booking confirmed this, including the price. When we arrived at the Hotel we were surprised to find that the hotel hasn't done meals in the Parliament restaurant for several years now! The staff were pleasant, the room dingy and unloved. The bar was freezing cold ( and wasn't ever open) which meant breakfast ( which was good) was a hurried affair! The worst of all this is that although I sent some comments to the Brook head office ( rather than go public) I've received neither an acknowledgement or a response, Clearly this Brook group care very little about their customers and I feel very sorry for their staff if this is how they treat people. It's very sad as the Red Lion is a beautiful historic building and I fear for its future.

We chose two bacon ciabatta rolls, a chicken focaccia, a coffee latte and a half white coffee. The bacon was dry and burnt on the edges and pretty tasteless. The focaccia was fine. The total bill came to just over £20. Which I certainly did not regard as value for money.

We met some old friends for a drink and food at the Kings Arms in Crouch street. The pub itself is very pleasant and the staff were very pleasant as well. We decided to order food. I ordered the Scampi at £15 and the ladies each ordered the grilled cheese which was £10.at that price I was expecting a really exceptional Grilled Cheeses with artisan bread and great cheese and a nice side salad. Describes as “ A medley of mature cheddar cheese and emmentsl with bechemel sauce in a toasted farmhouse loaf”….What they actually received was beyond appalling, 2 slices of processed white bread with a slice of plastic processed cheese no obvious sauce and a small bland salad.. I’ve had similar cheap toasties before , typically paying £2.50-£3 but to charge £30 for these sandwiches is nothing short of criminal. The scampi came with 13 chips and 7 normal pieces of scampi and 3 tiny pieces that were 90% breadcrumbs. Compared to other local pubs such as the Princess Charlotte this was similar to the “light version”. I would never recommend eating at this pub although as a drinking hole it’s very pleasant .
