Taste was awful for Marsala, tasted off pepper , bread was dry and burnt. Will not go back.

Usually very good, but food was not as nice as usual tonight. They forgot my two naan breads. And would only re deliver 40 minutes later, which was disappointing, so asked for a refund on the breads.

However traffic was bad so can’t be helped

the chicken was fatty some of it was not breast of chicken it was leg of chicken could not eat 3 peices of chicken i put them in the bin but over all taste of the sauce was nice we have ordered before and its always been lovely

Awful experience. Last night was the first time ordering takeaway from Raj Palace. Food took over 1 hour 40 mins for delivery and when we called to enquire each time we were fobbed off and clear it hadn’t been cooked yet. Food arrived cold, missing naan bread and was of a really poor standard and extremely tasteless. When we called about the missing item was told it would be delivered but almost a day later has still not arrived ….. avoid takeaway from this location.

It was very tastey i loved it!!

I ordered a takeaway and it was about 30 minutes late. The food was cold when it arrived. In addition, I had ordered pilau rice and was given plain rice. Overall, disappointing service and food. I had very much liked sitting in the Raj Palace, but the takeaway was incredibly poor and I will be going to other curry houses in Colchester in future, of which there are many.

When food turned up it was cold and they are literally 2 minutes up the road.not exactly cheap either

I was disappointed with the meal I collected on Saturday. As usual the curry was very good but, instead of the pilau rice I ordered, I got rice with bits of onion in it. My order was also missing the mint dip I asked for

Food was marked as delivered but hadn’t been delivered. Food was delivered after an hour and a half from order time and was cold and spilt in the bags.

I visited Raj Palace with my mum and we were greeted by wonderfully friendly staff, who made us feel very welcome, the atmosphere was relaxing and service was efficient and quick. The food was absolutely wonderful! Fresh, and excellent texture and flavour. I highly recommend Raj Palace for anyone who enjoys high quality cooking. An absolutely delightful evening, and a huge thank you to our waiters! I recommend the Hari Hari Chicken with Mushroom Rice!

Recently been to The Raj Palace and what can I say other than gorgeous. The service was extremely friendly and the owner Rashid made me and other customers feel so welcomed and catered to, extremely polite and approachable team and to take things to the next level the food was as stated before…. Bloody gorgeous!!!! I consider myself a foodie so I appreciate good food and wow…. The flavors are perfectly combined and balanced, left a fiery dance on my taste buds ( have none spicy options for those not keen on heat ). 5* across the board will definitely be coming back again very soon and would recommend to anyone who likes this style of cuisine.

Exceptionally quick delivery and food very hot. Absolutely delicious, other than was given plain rice, rather than the pilau rice ordered. Other than that, fantastic meal.

Sadly this is the WORST RESTAURANT I’ve ever visited; and by a long margin! The many negative comments left in their reviews testify to how bad my own experience was. Neither the staff nor the manager demonstrated any understanding whatsoever regarding allergens in their food, despite being asked more than once and being allowed reasonable time to respond, placing them it would appear in breach of the requirements of the Food Standards Agency, given there was no written allergen information evident or offered when asked. I suffer from COELIAC DISEASE and because of this face the potential of serious illness if consuming even the smallest amount of gluten but the waiter showed no understanding at all as to what gluten free was! As we proceeded through the evening it came to waiting half an hour or so for the ‘manager’ to come on site, only for him to say coeliac isn’t a thing. For him to state this quite categorically, either suggests he should not hold the position he claimed, or maybe was just assuming the position? - certainly his conduct was WAY BELOW THE PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS reasonably expected. Based on my experience this restaurant was DISAPPOINTING in the extreme and poses a POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR ANY GUESTS WITH FOOD ALLERGIES. When the point was pushed further, explaining to the manager he needed to explain his stance, he just disappeared, only to return subsequently in a much more agitated nature, I assume maybe through the frustration of not being able to answer the simple questions - ‘are the poppadoms made from gluten free flour’ and ‘what is your understanding of gluten free and coeliac from your restaurant’s perspective?’ Suffering from coeliac disease has never been an issue before in any restaurants I’ve been to both in the UK and outside of it, so his behaviour and attitude in what I believe in my reasonable view was shocking to say the least! Short term I suggest AVOIDING the RAJ PALACE in North Station Road, Colchester completely if you have any kind of food allergy, meanwhile they have been reported to the FOOD STANDARDS AGENCY for investigation at local level. In addition to the above we also had to ask for menus twice before any were offered, the waiter failed to understand two of the basic orders placed and whilst actually the taste of the food was okay, both Vindaloo and Phall (supposed to be the hottest dishes) were less hot than I’d expect a Bhuna or Tikka Masala to be. The Pilau Rice brought to the table was very anaemic in colour and lacked completely any sign of its renowned yellow colour achieved from adding turmeric to the rice as it cooks. This was also raised as a concern but resulted in another dish of identical rice being brought and a semi-aggressive attitude by the staff when the dish was questioned. Needless to say that for a Friday evening the number of guests in the restaurant could be counted on less than the fingers of two hands

Ignore the previous comment. Driver left the food at reception and didn't inform anyone. They refunded regardless so decided to order again. Food is amazing. Fresh and full of flavour. Received on time and piping hot. Will defo recommend and order again.

Ridiculous. Made me wait 2hrs and stilll not received the food only to be told they will refund as the driver has left. Did not receive my food. Awaiting a full refund.

Disappointing service and ambience the waiter wanted me to order specific things from the main course rather than what I preferred from side orders unacceptable practice should not be allowed should be made to be illegal for restaurants to insist customers to order specific items from the main course really that rest should be shut down

Delivery took an hour and 15 mins even after chasing up. Food was awful. Have used Raj Palace for takeaways for many years and was never disappointed with the food. Can only assume new chef and staff. Definitely not an improvement. Even naan was disgusting. Would not recommend and would certainly not order anything from Raj Palace again M Allen

Went in the restaurant and the waiter started telling me what I can and cannot order as I sit down meal. Found the attitude unacceptable from any restaurant this was totally incorrect approach to server customer who potentially would have ordered a few things or not as his choice would be that's why they have a menu but this way to wanted me to order specific main course dishes and nothing else that is against the law as well I think. Was very surprised that he did not want my business, as I could have ordered a few starters and a couple of drinks etc.... Waiter didn't seem interested. So I walked out and I told him he can keep his food. Terribly bad experience and probably the pretty food must be just as bad anyway. Disgusting service and Rude.

Came here for our anniversary, my wife and I both loved the restaurant. The staff were amazing and quick to respond to our orders and needs. The food was amazing and tasty. The atmosphere was good, service was top notch. Would come back again.

Superb Indian food together with service! 100% recommend to anyone who enjoys Indian food. They also do omelette if you don't like Indian food (good for us as someone in our party don't eat Indian food so wouldn't come with us!)

Going here for years went with friends recently menu smaller and lower quality of meat served never again will we go there prices hiked and poor quality

Prices much higher than when I last got a take away from here but quality much higher too. Would always choose Raj Palace if I could afford it. But I can’t.

Being carers we tend to have takeaways for special occasions -- and that was the case again. It was my wife's birthday and Raj Palace did us proud. The food (for six) was with us in 35min and it was piping hot and exceptionally tasty. I have no hesitation in recommending Raj Palace.

Came here 1 week ago. I had the Lamb Karahi, was quite tasty. The owner is friendly and staff are well mannered. I was by myself and was treated with the same attention as the bigger groups.

Raj Palace restaurant is specialised in Indian cuisine. They had recently refurbished the restaurant with a fresh look, spacious and great ambiance. They also undertake large party orders. Restaurant is maintained well and good quality food. There are also toilets for men & women. Pleasant place to enjoy with family and friends.

Excellent food. Tad overpriced. I know everything has gone up but I'd say it's around 20% mote expensive than it should be.

Took my partner out for a special meal. We were not disappointed. The food was perfect the service was outstanding. The ambiance was loverly after their refit. Special thanks to Rashid the owner which welcomed us back with open arms.

Worst place for Indians and of course Asians to go, I entered the restaurant today and asked for the menu I was told the menu is online even when I could see it was on tables, I insisted then I was shown by the server but before I could sit or check the menu dishes I was told that this is not an indian style it is English style, I asked that all the dishes are named indian but still have been told that this is not for Indian people to have just English and high priced, sad and shocked on the way the guy behaved and I think forgot the stories of Indian people and the our richness, sorry but I would urge everyone who even has a bit of Asian or just Indian ethics, should never visit this place. They need to change their name or May be the menu names.

Best Indian in Colchester. Great service and great food with a comfortable and cosy environment.

Have used this restaurant for years, and unfortunately very disappointed with my order. The prices have went up around 20% since you have re-opened, with portions being made smaller, for more money. Onion bhajis over £1 dearer, to now get 2 instead of 4. Curry around 1/3 less on portion size, being quite watery / oily compared to previous orders. Pilau rice incredibly plain and more like plain boiled rice. Naan breads once again very plain, with the garlic naan tasting minimally different to the plain naan. The quality of the meat is still excellent, however I would not say good value for money.

Having used this place for years I have to say that something has changed here. Food was awfull...one of our group ended up with stomach problems and the service was non existent and the young man in charge was simply rude. About 10 of us go twice yearly but we have all decided it is on to pastures new.

Not suitable for vegetarians or vegans. On 2 separate occasions I ordered a veggie curry and found chicken bones and actual chicken in my dinner, they obviously just pick the meat out of the curry and call it “veggie”.

Very good quality Tandoori, very tasty & whilst standard fare for such a restaurant it is cooked well with excellent spice flavours. One of the best Tandooris in Colchester if not the best. Currently takeaway only.

It was not like any Rogan I had ever had. Sadly, it was like a tin of tomatoes had been put in it. Really disappointed. 😞

Food was freezing cold, portion size was tiny and took just over 2 hours to come.

Food arrived without rice, called restaurant and was hung up on. Didn’t care that rest of food was getting cold

I ordered the food at 18:35 with delivery expected between 19:40 and 20:00. At 20:30 I called the restaurant and eventually the phone was answered. I asked about my delivery then I heard the man talking to a work colleague swearing using the F word. He said that the meal would be out for delivery shortly. At 21:10 the delivery driver turned up and to be fair was apologetic for the delay and explained they were extremely busy. If that was the only problem I would of understood, however the whole meal was cold and had to be reheated. One of the curries a prawn jalefrezi the container was less than half full equating to a small child’s portion. Also all four poppadums were broken into crisp size pieces. It is very disappointing to feel the need to complain as we have been loyal customers to the Raj for many years and I understand Saturday night must be a busy night but to hear swearing down the phone is not professional at all and if the delivery is delayed they should of at least made sure the food temperature, quantity and quality were correct as nearly £40 for a meal for two is not cheap.

We ordered at 6pm for a 7.30pm delivery and it’s an hour late. We will never order again!!

Order over 1 hour late. Tried contacting the restaurant on numerous occasions and the calls were never answered. Seems that there is no way to contact Just Eat for help. This has now spoiled a family night as we had things planned for later that will now not happen. Order was for over £57.00 very disappointed in the lack of service and in the care for for the customer. Why cant we have realistic delivery times? Finally got through to the restaurant and they said my order would be 10mins, 15mins later we are still waiting!!!!

Disgusting, just came back from my brothers after we got a curry for a birthday meal/take out and all I can say is WOW the worse curry I've ever had it was just water and went straight through the rice woth the odd bit of chicken, no flavour at all, I will never order from there again... I wouldnt give a star at all but I need to show this

Ordered over the phone and I felt like it wasn’t welcome,. No please or thank you and he hung up on me at the end of the call.. Staff had shirt hanging out… I have eaten here many time over decades and it has never looked this disorganised. The staff now look stressed, unkempt and are lacking the basics in customer service. It’s like faulty towers.

2nd time ordered 2nd time very late.

A very welcoming and unpretentious restaurant. Food is excellent and well presented by the staff who are knowledgeable about the dishes they serve. Really nice people. Decent prices and the perfect eatery before or after a pint or two in the excellent Victoria Inn a couple or three doors down the road!

First of all what’s the point in being able to pick a delivery time if it arrives before that? Usually I wouldn’t of cared, but my partner wasn’t home yet so his food just had to sit there. I’m used to ordering a jalfrezi, I can handle the heat, but this was so spicy I could t eat it. The onion bhajees were dry and tasteless, and the naan bread wasn’t cooked properly but burnt underneath. I personally have never liked the food from here (we only order from here because my other half likes it), but the food has never been THIS bad before. All the food pretty much had no taste to it. Order from kismet across the road, food is always great.

Another amazing meal from our favourite restaurant!

Food was lovely. Couldn’t find any fault with any of it and cleared my plate. We went in a Saturday night. It was busy but not packed. Our waiter was very good although we seemed to wait a while before he took our order and a different waiter seemed to throw our plates on the table. That aside we had a lovely evening and I wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Nicest Indian food we’ve had in some time.

First visit in a long long time. Was excellent. All the curries and sides were fresh and tasty. Service great. Nice to have two draft beers available as well as bottles. Would recommend a meal here and one of the few Colchester Curry Restaurants open on Mondays. Air conditioned too.

It would have been amazing to review the food, had to rate to post this but: The order was placed at 18.50 Latest delivery time quoted 20.10 Chased order 20.23 - restaurant said left and would be 10 mins Now 21.18 and still not arrived. Was a regular customer. Clearly won’t be in the future.
