I have always been to Rim Jhim down the road. The last 2 takeaways were bad, so I thought I would try this place, Amazing 👏 my new takeaway spot :)

Very good chicken dish and excellent papadam. The rest was less so. Very little shrimp compensated by an excess of sauce. Nah a little too dry.

Had very bad food poisoning from this place and have reported them as my partner ended up on a drip in hospital thank good I can hold down sips of water otherwise I would be a lot worse.

Good sized portions but I had difficulty finding the prawns in my Prawn Biryani, Onion Bhaji was tasty, Nan bread very rubbery.

That was one of the best takeaway in colchester. The meal was so delicious & delivery driver was friendly.

Food was exceptionally good! We have eaten from most of the other indian takeaways in Colchester and this one is by far the best, No dry or bland food here!! Try the onion baji's! You won't be dis-appointed!

First time i have used spice of india, 3 people for home delivery. We ordered different items , one person vegetarian. It was a really good meal certainly reccomend .delivery was on time , driver polite., food delivered hot.

After recently moving to Colchester and having this establishment recommended to myself and my partner, we’re glad we listened. Arguably the best curry I’ve had in many years. The delivery driver was super friendly, the food arrived quickly and piping hot. Wasn’t the cheapest Indian takeaway I’ve ever ordered, but I’ll be returning as it’s well worth the money.

I have recently moved to Colchester and only ordered 4/5 times from here but saying that I have been impressed with their food quality and service.

Ordered from here tonight. Very clean inside. The food was lush!! It was freshly cooked while we waited and the staff are very friendly there. It was still hot even after my 15 minute drive home. I cant do spicy food, im a wimp. The korma sauce was sweet and the chicken was tender and cooked to perfection. So full of flavour. Portions was huge, couldnt eat it all. Would defo recommend! Get ordering as a treat for the family and support our local business.

I believe this is the best curry in Colchester, highly recommend Lamb Achari and Lamb Biriany... curry lover must try.

On the whole it was a pleasant meal. The Lamb Tikka Methi could've been a touch stronger but was still good. The nan was very nice. The delivery was a little late but the staff and delivery tracking options were courteous and helpful.

Ordered via Deliveroo and it was the first time buying from Spice of India yesterday. Absolutely loved it and value for money. Vindaloo, pilau rice and keema nan. Best. Food. Ever. I will be back :)

A lovely Indian takeaway. The specialties are really good, but they also do well on all curry dishes. Naans are soft and nice. Rice is good in all forms.

Had my first meal from this takeaway today. Friendly staff and appeared clean however, My meal was a chicken dish and the chicken was extremely tough and the taste of grease overpowered the taste of the dish and an excessive amount of grease was also to be found in my side dish. I hope this was a one off.

Just had one of the best curries in years. Spice of India is top of my list now. Awesome Chicken Chat & Jalfrezi, lots of flavour and zero grease. This is not helping my diet! 😎

Okay, so full disclosure, I'm mostly vegan. So I may be a bit bias because this take out caters to my dietary requirements. But honestly I used to be a carnivore and a curry lover beforehand. The curry is excellent, the sides are excellent, the food is pretty much the nicest take out in Colchester. So that just leaves the service... I'd like to tell you a story of the service we had tonight and you can make your own mind up... After a very long day a pretty tired and worn down couple sits down on the sofa and decides they have no energy to cook. They settle on a curry and go online to Thier favourite Indian take out, they order themselves a chicken tikka, a load of starters, some sides, some rice, some naan and sit back and wait. The take out driver (Paul) arrives with a smile and is extremely well mannered and pleasant. We take our order inside and unpack our food.. it was all there, but there was no curry. In our tiredness we had ordered a vegan chicken tikka main, not realising this wasn't the chicken tikka masala we expected. We called and asked what happened and was advised that we had ordered the wrong thing (it's never easy telling someone they messed up, but I was not insulted or offended, just advised I got what I had ordered). Then despite it being my fault the kind person on the end of the phone agreed to send me a vegan tikka masala free of charge. Once we finished our starters Paul knocks back on the door and gives us our complimentary tikka masala. He gives us a big smile and tells us it's complimentary.. Now let's be clear about this. The error was ours, we were tired, we didn't push for a free curry, this was just the service they gave us as they value our custom. Cannot commend this place enough.

Has some delicious biryanis. The taste was 10 out of 10!

Have been using another very good takaway in Colchester for years as have my family, started using this takaway in the beginning for convenience as its much closer to me only 2 miles away and also my daughters have been using for long time and recommended this takaway, i have to say this place is really 100% spot on, and the portions well for someone like me who has a big appetite they are really generous and large, find myself as yet never eating everything in one go always have to finish the next day, im very fussy with my takaway food very hard to please but this place in my opinion is 10/10

Started using this place 2 years ago as the last takaway was to far for me to keep driving to after moving home, and also my daughters had been using for last few years and had recommended also, im fussy with my food but my personal opinion is that this place is as good as it gets, they combine very good tasty food with really generous portions, ive never managed to eat everything in one go yet always end up finishing the next day and im big eater, very impressed with the spice of India and would not eat anywhere else now

Very nice family run business. Very relaxed slow paced service so you can surely relax whilst enjoying your meal xx perfect food would definitely come back soon.

Overdue providing a review to The Spice of India as I've ordered a few takeaways now! Can't rate it high enough, the food is delicious, arrives hot and tastes fresh and flavoursome. Really is the best curry house by a country mile in the area.

Delayed our order twice and didn’t arrive for 2 hours after the requested delivery time. Didn’t pick up the phone on the several times we called throughout. Won’t be ordering there again and urge others not to either.

I don’t often eat out but can honestly say there chicken tandoori and their veg curries and nan are delicious, staff are friendly and food portions are of a good size. Try it for yourself. You won’t regret it.

I am from Indonesia and regularly visiting sister in law in Colchester. And during that time, we always come this place for some take aways. They are so generous in portion, delicious, fast service, and just a 5 minutes walk from home.. always happy to coming back to this place..

Order delivered incomplete so delay in receiving main dish ..then unfortunately the madras resembled a bowl of oil with 5 small ‘bits’ of meat ..direct trip to the toilet then followed !

Meal was lovely ,plenty of lamb , and curry had good flavour Delivery was on time and was very polite

3 starters, 3 mains, 3 nan breads, 3 rice and chips and a side order of Bombay potatoes for less than £60 was a good price. Delivered on time and still hot. The chicken tikka chilli was intensive hot and excellent as well, could demolish a right plate full of that. The masala dish was just right in terms of spice and effect. The archari was really good. The pillau rice was very nice slightly different in terms of taste and very big portions as well. Would certainly recommend this place on what we had ordered

A place of glorious tastes! Love the butter chicken, but it's so delicious that I mustn't go very often - I'm sure there must be a lot of sugar in that dish. My husband loves the hotter curries here too.

Having had a couple of bad experiences with Indian we tentatively tried the Spice of India and loved it. We have had 4 now, each of the last 4 Sunday's, and we get exactly what we order and what's more, it's piping hot.

WORST CURRY IVE EVER HAD. Ordered the Tiger prawn special they do and it was awful. Not one tiger prawn was more like a prawn cocktail. Greasy also. Rang to complain and was told they were 'special' tiger prawns that they used especially fr curry hahahah unreal!!! Told me he was chef and knew best. Place is a joke go if you dare.

Very poor service.... ordered via just eat, to get a call from Just Eating saying that the order didn’t go through. So we phoned Spice of India to confirm the order at 1900. They confirmed that they had the order and the food would be with us in 1hour (20:00) At 20:10 still no food. So we phoned them only to be told that they didn’t have the order. At this point we are rather hungry and now HANGRY. We wasn’t going to wait for another hour in the hope they may cook our food. Don’t think we will try Spice of India again....

I bought a lamb Rogan josh. I had 6 small pieces of meat in it. This curry costs just under £ 10.I went back into there and he was rude saying meat is expensive. I said not 6 small pieces of meat that you have me. He said do you want something I asked how much meat he said 6 pieces. I said not for that money it doesn't cost that much. He said in not so many words to leave.

They dilivered to the wrong house and When I rang up to say about this they were then very rude to me and started to shout And called me a liar. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all.

My curry average but my partners Purple Tiger curry supposedly with Tiger prawns had no such thing. They were tiny prawns and on ringing up i was told they were and i needed to ask for king prawns. Smallest tiger prawns ive seen in my life lol shame i cant post a pic lol. Wont go back.

Really lovely food, tastes fresh & you can taste the spices rather than just the sweetness in the masala. Popadoms are fab, best Indian locally except for 2 things;Onion bhajis are very greasy & they no longer offer any set menus to take away. Disappointing as this makes choosing/ordering easy.Friendly staff, delivery can be take a long time in busy periods so call early.

Just finished THE BEST jalfrezi I have ever had. Very much looking forward to ordering from here again!

My Son and his family live close by..so we all had Indian food.for a change..Madras was hot enough for me..womenfolk had Korma..son went for Vindaloo..all enjoyed our food..I love the poppadoms with chutney and onion salad.

Just had a pretty good Indian meal delivered very quickly. The Vindaloo dish was a bit watery but very well flavoured. Would be happy to recommend and would certainly use The Spice of India again.
