Mogul Tandoori in Colchester

We have been using The Mogul Tandoori for more than five years now and have never had a bad experience. In that time we have been to other places for Indian cuisine, but none compare to The Mogul. I would highly recommend picking dishes from their specials menu. In my opinion, their food has the freshest tasting ingredients and cleanest flavours.

Absolutely traditional indian cuisine, Chicken Madras, pillar rice, bombay Alòo , onion bahjee, 4 Poppadoms and kemanan bread. £23.00 and so tasty. I even phoned to praise the chef and quality of the food and service. Youve got to buy here.

Been using the guys at the mogul for a while now. Can't say I have had a bad one always really good food. I never used to be an Indian eater as I'm a fussy eater but have to say I really enjoy them now. I go in and order as I prefer to pick up rather than wait for deliveries tbh. Plus heated seats keep it warm :)

Chili Ckicken and Dhal were good, but the Chapati and Naan were both doughy ans undercooked :(

Never wrote a review before. Have been eating from here for a long time now, never ever had a bad meal 😋 always hot on arrival very nice staff. Always a delicious meal. We will never go anywhere else if they are closed we'll get fish & chips. Mark & Sue x

Food arrived 10 minutes early, but this definitely wasn't a problem. Onion Bhaji were very good, nice and crispy and not oily. Chicken Tikka Dansak was also very good, a generous amount of chicken and the sauce had the right amount of heat. The only reason 5 stars aren't given was the Garlic Naan was a let down, very dry and a bit bland. Overall, as a first time customer at The Mogul I'd definitely be prepared to order here again.

Best indian takeaway in Colchester

Been going to mogul for years, and normally a great curry .and tonight it’s the first time it’s was not great , food was just about warm, and the chicken balti was far just to spicy and normally it’s full of flavour.

Arrived hot and early and was delicious. Will definitely order again.

Fantastic quality as before, methi Hundi was perfect, superb dish. Only slight let down was the Malaya, ordered it as lamb, came as chicken and was a bit bland. Everything else was excellent though, thoroughly enjoyed

Finally finding an Indian that can cater for specific allergies really made our year! Fantastic food & value for money...highly recommend.

Very long delivery despite on time

Poppadoms were greasy and over cooked. Chicken was hard and sauce not enough and too spicy. Will not use again

Food was cold. Pure oil tasting! Absolutely disgusting! No flavour! Ended up throwing the whole thing away! Never ever eat from here again!

Unfortunately the 2 poppadoms were missed from our order, which was a shame, I called the mogul and spoke to the person who made up the meal, they said they would give them to us next time. There was no point in sending them out as our meal would have been eaten by the time they had returned. Would have preferred a refund as we dont have many takeaways but was told they would give them to us next time so not refunding. Had to score as a restaurant but it was a takeaway so can’t comment and gave an average score for that.

Very quick delivery and very tasty

Ordered food just after 5pm on Wednesday, was told 45 min for delivery... after three phone calls of being lied too saying "it was on its way", it eventually turned up at 7.15pm... Needless to say we had fed the kids by this point as bed time is 7.30, we turned him away at the door after him (the owner) repeatedly trying bargain a price for it with me... they have lost me as a loyal customer!!

By far the best curry house in Colchester, we order very frequently and have never found one that compares.

First time using this restaurant. Every single dish was delicious. We always have tandoori and sometimes it can be very dry. This wasn't, and was perfect.

Fantastic service. Food is always hot and always get more than enough. If I could put 6 stars then I would but can only put 5 stars.

The food is good but their time managment is the worst ive EVER had at any takeaway. Even calling ahead to place the order takes ages when you get there....ive never been in and out in less than an hour (& I only order for 2 people!) Unfortunately I will be going elsewhere as its happened way too many times now (most recent when I turned up at the time they told me and I still had to wait 30 minutes in addition to the 40 minutes they told me it would take!)

I had a very long day at work and was just very unbothered to cook at home but I really wanted a curry. they make the best chicken korma honestly. the workers are very nice and would definitely will order again!

I have enjoyed food from here for over 15 years, now and again. Have tried others, but this is the Indian I prefer and return to. Can honestly say never had a bad curry.

Great little local Indian takeaway, good menu really nice food

Used to go here regularly but due to dietary requirements decided to stop having curries. But we decided to go back and couldn't of been more impressed with the service and quality of the food. Popped in to see what i could have he went through the menu with me and the chief even came out to double check really impressed.

It was the best indian takeaway in Colchester, Been going here for over 20 years , Last night put in an order for over £35 On the menu it says orders over £15 delivery free. But they said no it's £2.00 for delivery. When I said.why does it say it's free and he just said don't have it and hung up. With that attiitude they will no longer have mine or my families custom.

Where do I start? Absolutely awful Indian. We were customers here for over 20 years however they let us down, badly. They frequently delivered lemon tasting rice rather than plain boiled rice, being told to just get free rice on our next visit, fair enough. Next visit came, didn’t get free rice. Another visit- ordered a potion of chips, did not arrive and called and were told that this would be added onto our next order. This meal was the worst I ever had and has stopped me from ever going here again! I didn’t want to order again and because I asked for a refund for the chips ONLY which were not received they did not like like this and become abusive down the phone saying we’re bad customers, they hung up. They begun shouting unprovoked saying we would not get a refund for the chips. We reported to trading standards at this point as the abusive communications were completely unprovoked. A few days later at 10:30pm when my children were in bed there was several loud bangs at my door, it repeated in an aggressive way so it was ignored in fear. Money was put into an envelope (£2) and said it was from them. Now to talk about their food. The curry’s are oily and tomatoes are out of a tin. The chicken is nothing like it used to be, the last straw was having pink chicken that caused me to vomit. There’s a reason this place has had a low food rating! Eat here at your own risk but this is a warning.

This is our regular local curry takeaway. Whilst not the best this is good for the price charged. Portions good and meat/veg/prawns adequate. The flavours are sometimes lacking for authentic curry dishes but on the whole not bad Oliver Ciaravella

Great taste in food at good prices

Ordered food to pick up, was told it would be 20 minutes and eventually ready 50 minutes later. Lady serving gave no apology and really couldn’t be bothered.

Haven't used this takeaway for 2 or three years and always found the food very good in the past. Last night's meal delivered spot on 7.30 pm as requested. Chicken Tikka Madras did not taste at all like a Madras--more like plain chunks of chicken in tomato soup---no flavour of chilli or other spices. Dry Vegetable side dish---nice selection of vegetables not overcooked but the only taste was salt. Again no aromatic use of spices. Pilau rice with one cardamon and very little else in the way of spices. Lamb Rogon in quite a lot of insipid sauce, nothing like rogons we have had in the past. All good ingredients but very poorly flavoured--such a shame. Not at all what I have come to know as Indian food which should be well flavoured and aromatic. A big disappointment.

We have just started using Mogul for Indian takeaway and it's top quality. We have tried half a dozen other Indian take aways in Colchester but this one tops those. The food quality is good, they have fast delivery times and the food is always hot and tastes fresh. They also cater well for allergens as my partner can't have dairy and they never struggle to cater for this. Highly recommended Indian take away.

Worst Indian takeaway I have ever had, chicken tasted plastic/rubbery and inedible, left most of it. So disappointing. Would never use again. Total waste of money.

We have been using the Mogul for 3 years , every time the food is always good, we usually order for at least 4 people, haven't tried everything on the menu but overall, very good, and delivery excellent.

I ordered take away for myself as a treat and the service was excellent! The food was delicious and hot on delivery! Massive portions had enough for lunch the next day! Will definitely be getting all of my Indian take always from here from now on!

I went there to order my indian for the family and I asked for recommendations and the staff was so polite and accurate: which made it easy to choose. Well priced and the set meal offers where great for 1 and 2 person. It was a take away but the food was ready within 15 minutes nice and fresh when I when home it was amazing can not describe it was really authentic thick indian dishes with lots of flavours and tender meats. I recommend this place for individuals and family.
