The best Indian takeaway in Colchester by far, tried most of them and these are hands down the best! Foods always arrives hot. I have a vegetable curry most times (not a vegetarian) but its spot on! My other half has a mixture which is always tops. Onion Bhajis are a must! Polite drivers. Wont use anyone else. Always 5 Stars

As always fabulous food and great service - having used this take away for more years than I care to remember, I can recommend it. Their service is amazing.

I've been to this restaurant about 15 times and in two previous occasions the food hasn't been very good. We decided to give the place one more try last night as its very close to us. We both had Chicken Tikka Massala , boring I know lol, mine had lamb in it too. The chicken was adequate at best, the lamb was tasteless and extremely tough, the sauce was just sugar. And to top it all, my girlfriend and I both have upset stomachs . I would not advise using this place.

Order took 1hour 50, masala had no flavour and found the chicken pakoras were basically batter the popperdoms were also stale.

Update 2023 - sadly the quality has gone down significantly in my view and I won’t be returning. A shame as it used to be a great place for decent takeaway. Very friendly staff, Naan bread cooked to order when you arrive to ensure maximum freshness, lovely spicy and flavoursome Chicken Tikka Vindaloo. Think I've just found my new favourite Indian Takeaway! And as they also deliver, I can't think why I'll be looking elsewhere. Highly recommended.

Have been using Indian village since day 1. Food is exceptional. Lamb just melts in your mouth. Have had thousands of Indians and always come back to this. Friendly staff. Don’t listen to the reviews try for yourself! You won’t be disappointed.

Not great I'm afraid. Having been brought up on Indian food due to my family heritage, I would like to think I know if someone has good spice and taste. The positives - The bread was good, the paratha and naan was soft and tasty. The starter tandoori chicken was ok. Unfortunately the negatives are on the main courses the 2 chicken dhansak tasted plain and bland, not how a dhansak should taste, it should be an explosion of lentils and spice. Also the rice was watery. very disappointing overall.

Food was binned as was cold (we are 7 minutes from takeaway) and aparrently are too far for delivery now (as was written on the side of the bag). With much nicer, better priced and better serviced deliveries available just dont bother.

I ordered dinner today.. the food was super hot when delivered. Naan and Tandoori roti was nice and soft... chicken curry looked nice but once I tasted it was nothing just a tasteless curry. I was so yukkkk. If you are serving this as Indian cuisine then it's fooling people who are not aware and waste of money for people who know how flavored Indian food is... I can probably cook better chicken curry than this by my left hand... Shame on serving such Indian food..

Awful food. Had to mop up loads of water from the rice, I needed a knife to get through the chicken, the sauce was terrible and the bhaji's were burnt... all went in the bin.

We’ve had two takeaways from Indian Village now and both times have been pleased with the food, service and pricing. The naans are really good and fresh, no cardboard naans here. We’ve tried ordering in the shop and over the phone and both are straightforward and as expected. We tried the lamb tikka Naga, paneer tikka, paneer jalfrezi, chicken pasanda and their onion bhaji which are lovely. Their menu suggests 99% of people return, and I’m sure we will!

Not sure if they have a dine-in option, I would love to visit if there is one. Have been ordering dinner menu for a while now and I would say, this is the best place I have ever tried so far. Love the spiciness and authenticity of the food which reminds me of home. P.S. chicken madrasi biryani is worth trying.

I told them to make my order little spicy they made it very spicy when I called them they said they can’t do anything very unfriendly and rude behaviour.

Ordered at the weekend and the meal was unbelievably disappointing. Watery and flavourless curries, over cooked and greasy onion bhaji’s and keema Nan with next to no meat in it! This meal was a disgrace to a professional establishment. Been using for a long time, but not anymore

Started using the Indian Village after my usual takeaway closed and had heard really good things about the takeaway. Last nights meal was awful! My Chicken Tikka Garlic Chilli Masala was watery and really lacking flavour, the Onion Bhaji’s were over cooked and rock hard but still really dripping in grease, the Keema Nan severely lacked Keema (barely a smear of the meat) and after spending over £30 on a takeaway very disappointed. Will definitely not be using the Indian Village again.

The chicken curry was like water and when I spoke to him he was rude and would never come back to collect it nor confirm what I was saying. NEVER EAT from there again not should you,

Superb meal. Everything well presented, hot and very tasty. Big portions with lots of chicken unlike some restaurants in town. Well packaged and labelled. Quoted 55 mins and arrived on the dot. Reasonably priced. We are quite particular but would use again without hesitation.

Great tasting curries and good portions

We ordered vegetarian biryani and Niramish. I was delighted to see Niramish on a menu as this is a Bangladeshi favourite of mine - a sweet and sour vegetable dish that tastes unlike any other. Unfortunately, the food was very poor. The Niramish was barely distinguishable from the biryani ie, frozen vegetables and a couple of potato lumps in a mediocre brown gravy. The biryani rice was greasy and bland, with no discernable spices to delight the palate. Have now added it to our list of restaurants to avoid. This is not flavourful, fresh and spice-rich Indian food. This is basic spiced fare that just passes as something Indian. Doesn't do the cuisine justice at all and I recommend trying elsewhere for a more flavourful experience.

We have been repeat customers for years. Not anymore! Apart from the long waiting time for delivery the food quality has steadily deteriorated. Last night's was cold, hardly any lamb and floating in grease.

Not my normal curry hut but i gave it a try, pleasantly surprised. the curry had good texture and some fantastic flavours. I will be returning for another takeaway soon

Took a little longer than sated delivery time, but to be expected on a busy NY Eve. Food, as always, very tasty & as described. A lovely lamb dish to try something different & complimented byt a a vegetable balti dish chosen by my daughter. All very good & I would recommend highly...

I’ve ordered from this takeaway for roughly 10 years and am consistently impressed with the food, I really don’t understand the bad reviews at all. Food arrives quickly (within the hour stated) and is piping hot alongside delicious. Don’t follow the bad reviews and miss out on trying this place it’s great!

Wonderful, fresh and tasty meals. Have used Indian Village a few times now and never disappointed. Large selection of usual favourites but many more of their own special dishes. Website is not run by them & can be a bit difficult to navigate but very efficient delivery.

Ordered a large delivery (£75+) on Saturday night using their own app. Food took 1.5 hours to arrive and the kebab starter we ordered was missing. Due to amount of time taken to deliver, it hardly seemed worth ringing up to complain as it would have been nearly 10pm before it arrived. Food Good but would not use delivery service again and would check order before leaving shop.

Terrible so dry no sauce at all on my chicken madras . Korma was brown in colour. Like it was made in the same container as the madras very dissatisfied.

Ordered at 6pm last night, delivery time of 7.30pm. Got a call at 8.30pm to say it would be 45 mins, I said OK as long as no later as I have a newborn who wakes at 4am without fail and I need my sleep and had waited up long enough already, was assured it would definitely be with me within 45mins. 9.35pm nothing arrives and get through and I'm told its still cooking! Really disappointed as had to go to bed hungry and lost valuable sleep time, they should've been honest and said they couldn't fulfil the order allowing enough time for me to make food and go to bed at a reasonable time. Refund given. But to be honest the customer service isn't up to standard, I'd have offered a sincere apology apology and a voucher having been 3.45hours plus past delivery time with such poor communication. Very disappointing.

Probably the best Onion Bhagees I have had. All the other food excellent and delivered within 10 minutes of target on a Saturday night. Food is always good here, not always exactly the same, but if it was I would be suspicious. Well done Indian Village. Thank you.

Best in Colchester. I used this place 20 years ago and it was good. It was recommended to me recently so we ordered a delivery online. Very easy to do. Tells you they’ve accepted, cooking, en route etc. Food arrived on time, piping hot. No grease or oil. Lots of sauce. Lots of chicken (not padded out with potatoes like some do). Flavour was exceptional. Rice very light and fluffy. No heavy after-feeling or salt overload. Very reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

We were so disappointed. The food was supposed to arrive in 70 minutes but actually took 100 minutes and when it arrived much of the food was lukewarm. Two of us had the wrong curry and the chicken in all the dishes was chewy so clearly had been cooked for too long or reheated. We ordered onion bhajis but none were delivered. We have used this establishment before and generally found them okay but we will go elsewhere in the future, pretty awful really. I was going to call them to discuss but the evening had already been ruined, the food should be delivered correctly in the first place

Nice food with out a question but delivery time is a joke if we were told 1 hour 50 fair but the site says 1 hour 10! No poppadoms arrived called but unable to give me a refund....

Used their services to get a take-away sent to Bergholt Road. The food arrived piping hot and was delivered by a very pleasant person who was most careful about social distancing. All the packaged were clearly labelled as to contents. There was plenty of very nice food at reasonable cost.

Blandest dhansak I've ever had, tasted like a korma to me, my friends weren't that impressed with their curries either, naan breads were ok though. Hoping to find a better Indian in the local area.

The food from this takeaway is second to none. By far the best I’ve had, fragrant and light with beautifully fresh ingredients and delivered well within the time their own website gave. The chicken was melt in the mouth and full of flavour, I’ve honestly been blown away and recommend to all.

4 of us ordered from here for the 1st time last night 4/7/19 and in all the years I’ve ordered curry’s this is by far the worst..WHERE IS THE FLAVOUR? I ordered the chicken bhuna and it was a yellow watery mush with a few onions in it, I’ve had more flavour out of chewing a carpet.. it would have been better to have gone up the shop and got 4 microwave curry’s instead of paying over £65 for this! Then if you call to complain they just make up a load of excuses! Will never be ordering from here again..awful food..awful customer service!

I wish my phone didn't die and I had have took a picture of how much was left from our devastating family meal that we spent £65 pound on.Bombay aloo had no kick to it and no flavour, tikka was the weirdest and most horrible tikka I've ever tried. Also no kick to it I know its meant to be mild but come on at least a little flavour and spice wouldn't hurt. Korma was the most tasteless korma and that's hard to come by, how hard is it to make it coconutty and creamy? Chicken was hard and dry.Chicken Passanda tasted just like the korma, thought it would have had a least a little more kick and flavour to it. Still chicken dry. Onion bahjis had no kick to them either, soggy, tasteless and I've never seen a pancake shaped onion bahji ‍♀️ vegetable semosa was somehow the worst I've ever tasted too but at least there was a tiny bit of spice coming out of that! The chicken bhuna looked like it had the same sauce as the Bombay aloo, with no flavour and no spice.I mean maybe if the customer service had have been better and we weren't spoken to so rude 'if it was one dish you complained about we could have given your money back, but because its all of them we can do nothing' and in the background 'block number and address won't be delivering to them again' we wouldn't have made such reviews and could have been resolved with at least some of our money back as be barely touched anything from 65 POUNDS WORTH OF TASTELESS FOOD. Maybe instead of thinking you're the best. Start listening to your reviews, stop lying saying you've had no complaints and maybe sort your horrible, awful, soggy, tasteless, dry chicken dishes out.I have had better and tastier, Spicer and authentic curries at the Playhouse and they all microwave?Thanks for the rubbish experience we definitely will never be ordering from you guys again, so glad you've disappointed 4 family members, we will be spreading the word around and I hope it does damage your business as something needs changing!!!!

Ordered a chicken jalfrezi. Tasted sweet, probably cooked in coconut milk, personally i didn't like it as spicy cuisines shouldn't sweet. Worst part was half way through eating pulled out a string of plastic which put me off and had throw it away. Never going back to this takeaway.

This place is awful, unfortunately the food was so poor we had to throw it away, the rice was dry and tasted awful, the lamb so over done we could not even cut it and the karma was utter rubbish! Please do not buy from here

There is absolutely no evidence e to support the cooks adding MSG to the food, as I asked. I have a delicate constitution, and i’m Vegan, and my stomach loves their food. Food took well over an hour to arrive and was late. No salad with the starter, main was tasteless, extremely disappointed. Manager unavailable when I phoned to complain. Admittedly he did phone back and left a message. But in all honesty, I would not want to experience another meal from their.

Food use to be amazing just got my order Bhaji’s so soggy and stodgy they use to be amazing, Pakora’s the same the only good thing was the popadom not worth the calories time to try a new takeaway place.

Rubbish not authentic Indian food loaded with grease and sugar proabably MSG, no difference between a Korma and a butter chicken both looked and rated the same. Overly sweet and greasy, Onion Bhajis looked like vegi burgers and tasted of nothing. Avoid until the restaurant changes chef or management.

Wow very dissapointinting because the most important indian food is vegetarian (i am a meat eater) so when you order aloo gobi and get two pieces of cauliflower and ten pieces of potatoes you know you are getting a bad deal.the chicken curry is no better than tescos frozen meal the highlight was the kebab other than that dismal but people here in colchester do not question quality but value for money . The most important question that the public do not ask is this simply what part of INDIA ARE YOU FROM well the restaurant chef is not from india but BANGLADESH it is a different country a different cuisine people please wake up to the misrepresentation that is going on here. THIS IS NOT INDIAN FOOD

Placed and order over the phone to be delivered was checked and read back to me was told the delivery time was 30minutes. My order turned up 55 minutes later and was missing an item so phoned and the said il have to pay for it and they’ll get a driver to deliver although i had pays for it already so I then refused and told them il bring it back and want a refund when I got there they then refused to give me a full refund including the tip I give the driver will not be going back or ordering from them again very rude over the phone to say the least

We have ordered from this Indian quite regularly over the last year and we have enjoyed the food. We always get it delivered and it’s always with us within an hour. Would recommend.

Just had quite a large order for a family meal, pick up was quick and on time but the meal was quite bland. Rogan and Jalfrezi had no heat at all and there was coconut in the tikka! The mushroom rice was nice though.

I recommend that you do collect from the store. It's been over an hour and a half since ordering online and I still have no food. They have a count down to delivery online but 10 mins after food due it hadn't left the kitchen. So we wait....... and wait some more. When we called (to ask where our food was) no discount on price offered or any deals for next order we make. No apology or explanation poor. They said it would be 10mins on the phone, that was 15mins ago! We have a kid who is now not bed and very hungry. Regretting a Treat meal this evening shame because I've collected before and the food is decent.

Used to be our fave Indian. But recently we're not so sure. Our curries seemed to be watered down. Sauces not so rich and flavour lost. You can see the water pool on one side of the plate which disappoints. Used to be brimming with spices and little cardamom pods etc... I hope they can go back to better quality as we used to enjoy every time. What's changed? The onion bhajis were good though.

The food is normally really good How ever today the 25 Aug. The service i Recieved today was shocking Who ever you was that I spoke to on the phone you are shocking and terrible customer service skills It is not my fault YOU got my order wrong and then followed to tell me I can wait another half hour after my food had been delivered until delivery goes out as it's suits you ... then hung up on me after I asked can you not just send me the right X1 item as it was YOUR fault ? So you charged me over the amount for items I did not recieve ? I am so disappointed as I would always use this as my first port for Indian ...... not any more . Nor was I offered the money back that I have paid for an item I did not recieve ? No you just said I'll bring it next time ..... no offence I don't have it that often , it is a treat ?!. So when I said no you got rude and hung up ! Shocking and not acceptable customer service. When you make a mistake maybe you should try harder to make it right? Regards !

La semana pasada nuestro pedido era que faltaba la salsa para acompañar los poppadoms. Esta noche nos recoge nuestra comida, llegamos a la casa y no ensalada para la cebolla bhajis o poppadoms. Nos llamó para explicar y tuvimos que conducir de vuelta a recoger la ensalada. La señora detrás del mostrador se rió cuando le expliqué esta era la segunda vez nuestro pedido estaba equivocado! La comida es fabulosa, pero el servicio no le favorece.
