Costa Coffee in Colchester

This evening we came to Costa as a group of 9-10 people and ordered several drinks. Unfortunately, our cappuccinos were very bitter, and none of us could drink them. We are regular Costa customers and drink coffee multiple times a day. When the coffee tasted too bitter for us, we politely informed the staff and requested some extra milk. The staff member responded rudely, saying, ‘This is how we always serve it. Order a latte next time,’ in a very condescending tone. We explained that we drink coffee daily and that this was not the usual taste. Additionally, we were told that Costa Rewards don’t work here because it’s a franchise, but I mentioned that this is not accurate, as rewards should be usable if we are using the Costa app. Overall, the staff’s attitude was not polite or customer-focused, which left a very negative impression.

This is not the Costa that I am familiar with. We ordered 5 cappuccinos and agreed that they were stronger than usual. We complain Barista. She told us this was their regular one and normal. She even asked us whether this was our first Costa experience although we scanned Costa's loyalty card. In addition, I tried to use my free coffee but was denied. She told us that their branch is a franchise to Odeon. Anyway, She helped us to make it lighter by adding extra hot milk! Worst Costa experience ever!

I had cappuccino in costa odeon Colchester at 18.40 pm 26.10.24 . it was extra strong coffee like old coffee or extra strong. The staff lady was so rude to explain me that this is how they prepare cappucıno and asked if this is my first time in costa. I am a regular customer at reading costa cafe and it was the rudest version to tell a customer as “ you are drinking first time at costa? “ She told me to “drink latte rather than cappuccino “ as if I do not have my choice in costa.

Rude and impolite staff An early morning cinema visit with my 7 year old niece and we were both shocked at how rude the staff were to us. We weren’t aware that the Costa was solely open for the church on a Sunday morning, and we are understanding at this fact, however we were told in such a rude and impolite way that we felt really surprised. It’s a shame that there were people sat on the chairs already however we couldn’t sit here while we waited for the odeon food desk to open. Really sad as I am teaching my niece how to behave politely and respectfully and other people ruin this for us!

It's a Costa. The menu is like any Costa. The coffee is as good as any Costa. It's cosy and welcoming; clean and comfortable. No-one minds you staying for some time. The staff are generally young and friendly (I've been there a few times). A good place to wait for someone either pre- or post- a trip to the cinema or just to meet up.

Superb service this morning although staff were very busy. My grandson accidentally spilt his drink as soon as we sat down but staff cleaned the area quickly and thoroughly and were very polite and helpful.

This place should stay open longer considering films go in way past 1900.

This location is situated in the cinema, nice atmosphere, great selection on offer, they have M&S mealy nog and always great offers. Staff young, friendly and very efficiënt.

I don’t understand how one can mess up a hot chocolate so bad

Again wanted to make a complaint about customers less than a metre behind you in the queue, monitoring and replicating your actions by moving seats as you do and starring at you constantly and drunk people trying to bully you into talking to them. One night, 2 seemingly drug addicts try to intimidate me by invading my space and 1 made a threat that if I had a 'buddy' I would be mugged off, all happening 10 metres away from costa.Also, there were 2 tanned women in glasses and they were standing literally less than a metre away from my backside in the queue.There was also a pale woman with bright green eyes and grey hair who stood less than a metre away from me in the queue as well.To add, when I was 20 metres away from the bus station, there was a girl with red hair shouting in an antisocial manner towards me from the top of the stairs.It looked like she was with a group of suspicious looking people,more like a gang trying to intimidate people around them.

Usual shambles. The service woefully slow and the staff getting people's drinks one by one instead of as a whole order. I ordered my coffee after 10 minutes in a queue where no one knew where to stand to order or to wait. The serving woman went off to make my coffee then returned and gave it to me then asked me where my receipt was - I said you haven't given me one. She said "why didn't you tell me you hadn't paid yet?" In an attitudy way. She literally took my order and went to make my drink and didn't take payment then was rude about the fact I hadn't yet paid!! Everything I hate about Costa. If there was a different coffee place nearby to the cinema I'd go there. Every time.

Everyone else got their orders, I was still waiting for mine.. I ordered 1 hot drink, 1 cold drink and 1 toastie, compared to others, it wasn't that complexed. The toastie was sat waiting for 5 minutes, on the board waiting to be cut and my drink was sat getting cold. When we eventually got our cold drink, the smoothie, it was far too thick to even drink... Won't be coming here again anytime soon.

Coffee shop in the Odeon at Colchester town centre. Shut due to the coffee machine being broken. Usually enjoy a coffee before the film...Hopefully fixed and opened for service again soon

Very slow service card scanner not working so could not use or collect points .Female staff member did not seem very happy at the time me and my wife were there .No sandwiches as delivery had not arrived .Coffee was good need more staff .

Visited for a coffee at lunchtime. As expected when visiting Costa excellent coffee good service and nice environment.

Lovely, patient staff. Ever professional and though rushed off their feet, they never fail to be polite and professional. Lovely coffee. Always a pleasure. A great little oasis in the town and my favourite coffee stop.

I visit costa regularly around colchester and clacton always good service I love the fact that you can get sourdough bread and rolls.

Great coffee, prices reasonable

The best Costa coffee location by miles And this is saying something it has a wonderful atmosphere combining may parallels. The staffing of it is rather hit and miss, but on the whole there are two people who run it that hold the fort up rather splendidly. The area has an issue with groups of youngsters loafing around with a tendency to damaging the furniture, but on the whole the problem is managed. Cleaning is an issue and Odeon management must kick in and help out with the cleaning of such a high turn over sales franchise. The food and drink is the usual Costa faire, no point in emphasising the obvious. This is probably the Costa for miles next to the one on the Stanway western by pass by Frankie & Bennie's.

Nice Costa in the cinema, you don't have to be going to the cinema to have a coffee here, lots of nice seating too.

Your basic Costa coffee shop. A good variety of coffees as you'd expect and nice food. The staff were very helpful. This shop was busy most of the time I was there about mid afternoon.

Many people go in the Costa love coffee not children not drink coffee .the people like coffee take go work every day

This is the nicest Costa in Colchester. Staff are really friendly and it’s pleasant inside. I always choose this one for my morning coffee as it’s got some soul.

The queues can be big but the service is pretty good and flat white was good

Popped in after missing our bus. There was only one person serving ,who was helping a disabled customer, so there was a little delay in getting served. The teas we ordered were made quickly once order was placed, and were very nice even though hubby said his was to hot and he had to wait a little bit for it to cool down. It was quiet when we were there but as we were leaving a number students turned up. We were not in a hurry so this place was ideal for us to sit down with our teas and watch the world go by.

Very slow service, one member of staff with an annoying habit of telling everyone in the queue on turn that she’d ‘only be a second’ when that clearly wasn’t the case. Full of people waiting for their buses without buying anything and students from the local college with one having the cheapest drink available and the rest consuming their own food and drink.

I’ve been to this costa a few times and every time it takes absolutely ages until you’re finally served. They need more staff. Also, this time, my friend’s drink was messed up.

Love the coffee,and paninis😁only thing is it's so busy especially Saturday can be a long wait ,as there is not enough staff.

Nice cafe inside the Odeon cinema complex in Colchester. Handy for a drink or a snack while waiting for the cinema to open.

I like Costa. It makes a decent cup of coffee though rather pricey.

Nice coffee before a film different christmas offers Ginger Latte is lovely. Always good quality even though a tad on the expensive side..just my opinion.

Before I went in, I didn't realise that this Costa was within a cinema. The service was a bit iffy and my panini wasn't as warm as it should have been. As this Costa is situated in the foyer of the cinema, it was noisy from the customers buying tickets and the general comings and goings associated with a cinema. If you're looking for somewhere to relax, there are plenty of places locally for tea, coffee or a light bite. ONLY come here if you are a cinema customer!

The coffee was ok hence why the 2 stars. However, the customer service was shocking. A member of staff asked for my order. I had a chance to pass on 1 out of 2 before she turned her back and started the drink. She had to ask what flavour syrup I wanted (no recall memory for a minimum order and no social skills). I gave my 2nd drink order to another staff member. The 2nd was with skimmed milk, so I stopped her from making it with full fat milk. When the final drink was handed over there was no social interaction at all, so I verified if it was the drink. "Yes" was the reply. Customer service is surely still relevant. Staff with attitude is not.

I love this place as it is great place to get coffee (or other drinks) before watching a film at the Odeon. Normally we get the kids a deal with the cinema, but get a coffee for ourselves. And you can get points on your Odeon card as well.

Very useful costa if you want to grab some coffee before your film at odeon!
