Dog ice cream. Good selection of coffe and ice cream

Lovely milkshakes here today! My little one decided that the buckets and spades inside needed some "reorganisation", and the staff were very kind and understanding. We will definitely be returning again soon 🙂

Great little food hut, unfortuntely cash only as it is an old war shed so they do not have have any signal for a card machine. But the food is great, they sell sea shoes which is usefull as mersea beach is a little stoney on the way to the sea, slush puppies, ice cream, chips etc. Staff are great, young lady named Jesus was my favourite 😉.

Only 1 star because I can't give zero! 2 ice creams .... £8 .... worst Kelly's ice cream.... freezer needs turning up... so sloppy it was unbelievable... almost as sloppy as the terrible service. If you're not a people person don't work with them! Seriously overpriced and not worth spending your cash!

Expensive and terrible. Friday & 32 degrees plus but didn’t bother opening until well after 10am! Headed for coffee and snacks but prices were horrendous and CASH ONLY. Bought the worst coffee I have ever tasted (two coffees and a soft drink £5.50, rip off for the quality). If using the beach take your own drinks and head elsewhere for food. Such a shame the owners aren’t interested in running this place with any seriousness, manned by a bunch of young girls. They should move on and allow someone to do it properly.

Chips were still frozen in the middle, I had a sandwich, bread was stale, it was in a container with 4 Doritos, coleslaw and some other salad mixture with dressing on it, it had all soaked into the sandwich, went in the bin. All I wanted was a plain cheese and tomato sarnie but was told had to have what was on the menu, so expensive as well. Thinking about it we really should have taken the whole lot back, but won’t be using the place again, wouldn’t recommend it either.

Expensive. Poor quality and unedible and poor service (mostly because the staff were young though so probably not the fault of the individual). It's a shame, with the right management this could be such a lovely place as its in a great location. Also, cash only... hmmmm.

This Cafe would only take cash so we went elsewhere. I dont know why this was but it was not for me. In the Covid times, cash only is a poor option.

Sorry £ 7-50 for a eggmayo sandwich I don't think so ,will not return shame great location and view ,and cash only can't get signal for the machine strange got one for my phone

Not been here for many years; glad to see it is still there and doing really well. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the service is good, food very nice and lots of it. The menu is limited, but for the size of café it has something for everyone. Great sea views. Public toilets across the road. The main downside is they are cash only, they say they cannot get a signal to work a credit card machine.

Would love to give a review but unfortunately wasn't open when visited, even though said was open when got Google map directions! Location looked amazing though!

We had ice cream and a cup of tea here on a surprisingly warm Saturday lunchtime. All very efficient and good quick service on clean tables. Saw plenty of good food coming out and everyone seemed happy.

Wonderful location and great service. The staff were so very generous and I was able to sit and work in the sun. I never knew this place existed but I'll definitely be back ! Thanks for a lovely relaxing time.

Nice little café with great sea views that sell every thing from tea, coffee and meals even beach stuff the young girl with blonde hair behind the counter was very friendly and helpful you order and pay at the window and take a sit and they bring your order to you very busy little café well worth a visit.

We have visited this beach cafe several times before and never had a bad experience the staff are polite and very helpful in particular the more mature blonde lady who is always so welcoming and nothing is too much, on this occasion me and my wife just had an ice cream in a tub which came very quickly and was delicious also like to point out for a beach cafe the food on offer is excellent and the coffee is very good all in all I can highly recommend this cafe.

The older blonde hair worker was extremely rude to me, for starters she was standing way to close to me.. you wouldn’t think we are going through a pandemic!!! You can hear the way she speaks to her staff and let me highlight the fact they are teenagers so she shouldn’t be speaking to them like this!!! I couldn’t believe it, If this lady is the manager then I don’t know how this cafe is still open! However on a positive note the chips were nice and the younger staff were very polite.

My husband ordered a tuna jacket potato. It arrived mixed with sweet corn which he does not like , and the menu did not say sweet corn was included. The server untruthfully tried to say she had informed of this. He asked to change his order to coronation chicken. She came to the table 5 minutes later and loudly said so other customers could hear “coronation chicken has got raisins in, do you eat them?” She told us the wait would be 6 minutes - it was 18 and served it to him with a sarcastic sounding “sorry about the wait!” Life is too short - go somewhere else for lunch!

We had lunch there today and I ordered a prawn sandwich which came out not in its best condition it was a bit out of date so I did bring it to there attention and to my surprise even though they was really busy they couldn't be more apologetic they gave me my money back plus a lovely fresh sandwich and a bottle of water . So there is still good service and nice people when you least expect it so thankyou .

I x Coffee (needed to tip out the top inch and ask for more milk as it looked like mud) 1 x tea (lid loose and I spilt it moving over to the table for sugar, this was replaced which I am thankful for) 1 x Diet Coke, 1 x Bacon Bap (far too fatty), 1 x Bacon and egg bap (egg was rock solid), and 1 x sausage bap (nice sausages). How much……………. Only £17.50 🤯. Then I was short changed and had to ask for the extra money back. It looked like staff were being trained, fair play, but £17.50 for that, no receipt and cash only too. I can only imagine that Gordon Ramsey was cooking it and the chickens and pigs that provided the meal were from the ‘Duchy of Cornwall’. I cannot see for the life of me why it cost so much, dismal. I am sure I wasn’t picked on; and I didn’t complain as I had an appointment locally and had promised my companions a light bite before we started the interviews, however, come on Mersea. I’ve seen great reviews and chose this place, we could have all shared a couple of Cod and chips and it been cheaper.

Monday 31/8/20, Bank Holiday Monday: Ordered Hot Dog/Chips with Onions & 'hot' Chocolate twice. Sausage/Chips & Onions were lovely. The roll was VERY bland, dry with no butter, tasted as of it had been frozen then defrosted, worst roll we've ever had! Waited AGES to give our order, when we did we were given our drinks but it took between 15 to 20 minutes to get our food, if I'd known this I would have asked for our drinks to be given to us later as I like to drink AFTER I've eaten, not much chocolate in the drink at all & luke warm. 50p extra for EACH hot dog is taking the P, I've NEVER known anywhere to charge extra for a few onions!!! 4/10.

Place looks good very busy. Ordered and tasted the worst food ever. Hotdog and chips was a cheap sausage stuffed in a giant dry french stick with a side of reheated chips. The cheese burger well if that’s what it was supposed to be, was cheap mince squashed together with cheap greasy cheddar cheese melted on top stuffed in the thickest floury bap ever, and a side of reheated chips. The burger was so dry not even six sachets of ketchup was helping to make it taste better. Awful !!! If your going to sell processed food at least get it right.I do understand that there is a profit to be made. Just ripping people off with food they can’t eat is sinful. Sometimes people have no choice to use these places as they are here for day trips and there is nothing else around. I will not be rushing back to this place at all!!!

Cute little place, serves ice creams and beach essentials

Really lovely cafe selling hot and cold drinks and food, situated right on the beach front of East Mersea. Note that they only accept cash, however the lady did direct me to the nearest cash machine (which is about a 10 min walk away), so no probs there. We had an ice-cream each was lovely and really reasonable. They also sell cake, lunch stuff and everything for the beach that you usually forget! It was a really hot day, and the lady also kindly filled up our kids water bottles, which was very much appreciated!

Great grub good service reasonably priced

The Q was out of the door on a VERY hot August day. Food came out pretty quickly considering the place was really busy. Our egg mayonnaise doorstep sandwiches were delicious. Thick cut locally baked fresh bread with a generous amount of egg mayo. Served with coleslaw, salad and some tortilla crisps. Absolutely brilliant.

Have not been to this cafe for years and remember it as being rather good however went today and got charged £2.50 for a CAN of Fanta?? Child were good though and friendly staff.

After a long walk along the beach, this cafe is a welcome sight. We found the service, food, and prices to be quite reasonable. It is also open every day all year round from 8.30am. It can be missed from the beach - so look out for the umbrellas behind the beach huts.

After a long walk along the hot beach the cafe was a welcome sight. We had ice cream and sat on their terrace. There was a wide selection of ice creams, reasonabley priced. Staff friendly.

Poor quality food, badly cooked . Nice outside seating area left uncleared and dirty plates(with lots of food left overs) were attracting wasps. Avoid fish and chips at all costs. £7.95 sounds cheap but when only 20% of the meal was eaten then =extremely poor value for money.

Only had a coffee here but noticed in the fridge inside the seafood platters that looked really good and reasonably priced. Alas we had already had our meal but the seafood did look good.

It was a very busy day and the young man serving us was trying to cope on his own. The Strood (only access on and off the island) had been closed and so deliveries hadn't been able to get through and neither had another staff member.There was a considerable wait for our food order and to be served in the first place but this young man did an excellent job in communicating with us, apologising constantly and offering ways to put things right, displaying initiative and great customer service. This was particularly noteworthy as it would have been so easy for him not to care (we were a pretty captive audience on the beach!) and I'm sure he had already been moaned at several times. Well done to him for maintaining such professionalism - to his employers - he deserves a pay rise!!!

The Two Sugars Cafe has come a long way since it first opened on the island, but has nonetheless retained some of the original charm that so many locals and visitors alike remember. A good selection of menu's and freshly prepared food appeal to the many visitors who have dined here over the years.

The young lady that owns this is a diamond.

Right on the beech but closed until spring

I went in for a full english breakfast, two young ladies were extremely lovely and very polite. I did not have to wait long for the food at all. It was honestly the best full english i've ever had! What a lovely spot too! I will defiantly be returning ! 10/10

Stopped off after a short beach walk. The staff were happy and friendly . Good hot chocolate but what made me review it here is the lovely home made sweet potato and chilli soup with chunky granary bread. Bread is from local bakery and the soup is homemade. Very nice and worth a visit just for this.

Very nice pit stop along the beach. Hot chocolate is great, lots of different cakes and scones - be aware tho that they are unable to take cards due to lack of signal, and there are no toilets on site, but are just across the road

I was walking along the beach and spotted this cafe at lunchtime ... what a find!

Following a recommendation, we visited this lovely cafe and enjoyed a late breakfast ably cooked and served by two very friendly Ladies who obviously enjoyed their jobs and took the time to chat with us. We enjoyed our meal on the spacious veranda which gave a very good view of the Estuary. One highlight for us was the absence of sea gulls. It enabled us to take our time and enjoy the surroundings in peace.

A stop in on a blustery day soon warmed us up, courtesy of the unbelievably friendly staff! Lovely views over the beach huts and right next to a children's play area, public conveniences and, of course, the beach! Will come again

Was warmly welcomed by very friendly staff. We ordered a smoked fish platter, which included freshly baked bread from their local bakery and a minted lamb burger which was from the local butchers and also was in a soft floured roll also freshly baked that day. Absolutely lovely, definitely worth going and recommend to anyone.

Slow confused unfriendly service. Poor food. Had the strangest pulled pork I've ever tasted. Overladen with sticky sauce and completely stone cold. Bizarre.

Two Sugars is a handy snack bar inside an old world war two lookout bunker! It's right on the beach with plenty of outdoor seating on a relatively new veranda. You can get teas and coffees and cakes and simple hot and cold snacks. There's also ice creams and some basic beach equipment like buckets and spades. The inside needs a but if a makeover but the staff are friendly and the service us generally very good.

Lovely spot to stop and sit outside overlooking the sea after a long walk along the beach - dogs welcome too. I stopped for a quick cup of tea and was tempted by the huge cakes. The very generous slice of orange and lemon cake was delicious. Staff were really friendly and brought my dog a bowl of water too.

We hired a beach hut for the day & had a take away lunch. It was nice to have a good choice as I'm vegetarian. Good value for money & tasty food. The cakes looked lovely, although we didn't try them. Will go back again next time we visit the island.

I took my children to the cafe today. The food was delicious. The two ladies working today were so lovely, they took the time to be attentive and indulged in a good chat. Highly recommend

This place is seriously disappointing and deceiving given the good reviews received on Tripadvisor. Aside from location, the cafe itself is in need of some work - it looks pretty average and about to crumble. Both food and service were average at best. Avoid.

This cafe has a wonderful position on the beach and an excellent seating area. However I find the staff unfriendly and not welcoming or helpful.

The staff there are very friendly & they have a very comprehensive menu which caters for all tastes. They can provide both hot & cold snacks & drinks or something far more substantial if you wish. They can provide a takeway service if you wish or you can sit inside or outside to eat your food, This café is very popular & provides good value for money.

Went to Mersea beech for a day out, we came across The Two Sugars Cafe. The prices were very good and the cafe is run by a very pleasant owner.

First time been here was on a walk with dogs and thought stop for coffee and cake.The cake was nice but coffee not so good made with powder. But has a nice view of beach.

Right by the beach, loads of outside seating, so great on a sunny day. Bit bothered by the breeze on the day we went (brollies taking off and/or breaking) . Our mug of tea and bacon roll was just the kind of thing you would expect from a little cafe like this. Dont come expecting fancy cooking, its chips, ice creams and basic stuff, but in an area surprisingly devoid of eateries , its a welcome stop on a hot day !

My little girl loves the beach and this cafe is perfectly located the staff were happy and friendly despite how busy it was the kept pushing through with smiles on the faces the food was lovely I will be returning again

Perfectly located but humble cafe. Serves lovely chips, a wide range of lollies and drinks. Good service. Hardly any seating indoors but then why would you want to be indoors when you're only 200 yards from the sea?

Visited here recently when in Mersea. So lovely to see this once derelict building now become a café but sadly it was disappointing. The latte's were actually a packet mix and tasted of hot water with powder in, awful. The service is disorganised and staff a little snappy and miserable!

Pretty mediocre and service nil. Young lady serving had trouble calculating cost of a coffee and tea? but I helped her add it up and take it away from a tenner! Coffee yuck. Don't think we'll return.

Went here with my fiancée on Saturday after spending time on the beach. Nice little cafe serves food, drink and ice creams.

Conveniently situated near the two seafront car parks and toilets. Nice seating area outside,although very small inside. Serves what you would expect from a beach side cafe.

It's the only place at this end of the beach and was extremely busy when we visited... lunchtime on a Tuesday. Needs more parasols outside as really exposed to sun. Nowhere shaded. Serves icecreams, meals, drinks etc. Too busy to order so we just had drinks.

Grumpy management. Shouted at us to hurry cos they were closing. No thanks, went to another place instead and had a lovely meal.

hired a gorgeous beach hut for the day and went here for lunch and then cakes later in the afternoon. Lunch was good value and the cakes were to die for. Great, friendly service too.

A beachside cafe serving a typical cafe menu with a few extras on top. Absolutely brilliant if you need a simple sausage egg & chips meal or similar. Coffee is not the greatest : Nescafé and hot water but this little cafe does the simple things well.

I'd been meaning to try out this little cafe right on the beach for some time, but it had been closed over the winter period. It had a good range of food and the burgers looked particularly appetising. Service was a little slow - I only stopped for an ice-cream on this occasion, but will definitely be dropping in again to try some of their food. great spot for people-watching too.
