Costa Coffee in Colchester

Great allergy awareness. Checked everything I wanted to purchase for my allergy and made sure everything was cleaned down before making my coffee! Very impressed, not had this service before when buying a coffee out. Very reassuring. Thank you! 👍

Much better since our previous review seems the NO free internet has got rid of the one coffee wallers using it long stay for the warmth in winter and free internet 👍 Being regular Costa customers we wonder do they have a special table supplier as every branch we use even the newly opened in Clacton have wobbly tables. Or maybe this is so you don't out stay your welcome ???

We have just been in this store (Turners Rise) to get our usual coffee. We bring our own reusable china cups and the lady said she cannot serve us as our China cups do mot have lids. The China cups they use in store do not have lids. We have been using this store for the last couple of years. We will not use this store again. She is definitely a jobs worth. Such a rude .lady. We have not seen her before and hope we never see her again. Costa you need to sort this out. We use the one in Clacton too and have never been refused

The front of the shop needs some form of shading, particularly given on sunny days when the glare from the sun is really strong.

Without sounding offensive I was served by an older lady who couldn't have gone any further out of her way to be polite and happy. Such a refreshing change in the Colchester Costas! The barista was also chatty and made a lovely decaff latte. Thank you for making my solo trip very enjoyable.

Love Costa coffee they do the best hot chocolate. Frappes are the best.

Visited today and the state of the place was disgusting. All tables were over loaded with dirty used cups plates etc. Had to ask to get a table cleared which took forever. Like most Costa Coffee houses they are always full of dirty tables but the one at Turner rise Colchester was as I say disgusting.

Disgustingly dirty. Food paper rubbish on the floor. Seats sticky dirty tables messy never cleared or cleaned while I was there today.

Cake and hot chocolate was nice, the only problem was theu forgot the flakes and the marshmallows, place was dirty the poor staff run off their feet! hence tables were not cleared and cleaned, I think Costa need more staff!

Not sure if it's just getting near Christmas, but this has become very busy, and service has gone down hill. Long queues and no oat or coconut milk alternatives.

Wasn't able to spend much time here, but I have been a fair few times in the past, and to be fair, it is probably the nicest Costa that we have...staff are fun and friendly, the service was good as always, and the cafe was clean as it always is

Costa seem to place heavy emphasis on online collections and app orders while the instore que gets longer and longer poor. One shinning star in branch is Amy who cares about customers.

Slow service even with plenty of staff.

Several tables looked as if they needed cleaning even though no trays or empty cups were on them. Floor was badly littered with food debris. I couldn't escape the flies where I initially chose to sit so moved but more flies appeared there too. I did not stay long.

Good service here, no wait at all. Glad to find some new additions to the Gluten-free range, I tried the Millionaires Shortbread which was quite pleasant and went well with my Cortardo. The good thing about Costas is the Coffee is consistent whichever one you go to. I have a passion for Coffee and am disappointed frequently when using individual Coffee houses that serve scalding watery Coffee. Well done to the Staff here!

Truly awful experience trying to get a take away coffee. If you are going to put staff at the door please invest in training them on how to manage and communicate with the public. We are all struggling to deal with this pandemic and treating customers as if they were misbehaving children is not acceptable under any circumstances

Not one of our best visits. The toasted sandwiches were a soggy steamy mess. They had very little filling. However the cilled fruit drink was delicious.

Let me preface this review by saying I drink a lot of coffee from a myriad of establishments, but my go-to high street retailer is Costa Coffee. However, the Costa at Turner Rise Retail Park in Colchester is by far the worst I have ever had the misfortune of visiting. The staff of which I counted at least four, wandered around behind the counter in a dream with absolutely no sense of urgency or seemingly direction. The establishment I will add was far from busy, but due to the lackadaisical attitude of the staff, the well-observed socially distanced queue soon began to grow. After waiting 15 minutes, bearing in mind I was the third person in the queue, I finally got served. I will say, however, for complete objectivity that the woman that served me was at least polite, I will not pretend otherwise. The member of staff making the coffee was exceptionally slow. To call her a barista seems an insult to the skilled individuals who operate the espresso machine with such flair and panache as witnessed at many of the brands' other establishments. After a little under 25 minutes I exited the shop with two cappuccinos one of which that could only charitably be called tepid. So my advice would be to avoid this Costa at all costs if you are either limited for time or actually enjoy hot coffee.

Very poor experience got drinks and a snack but on ordering two staff kept asking different questions so order wrong but rectified at Costa's cost. Then after a table left the clean up was poor. The closing time of 17:00 isn't ideal and then Costa moan about losing money.

I’ve been using this costa for the last three days now and not once have I seen a table being cleaned when a customer leaves and before another customer uses it! I sat in there for quite a while and not one table was cleaned! Customer orders were all over the place and not following the order in which they were placed meaning social distancing didn’t work. Staff were more interested in laughing with their work colleagues than helping the queues of people. I witnessed elderly couples being refused a drink as they didn’t have a mobile to register with the covid app - they wanted a take away! Not many elderly people carry mobiles! That was so unfair! Some staff were asking if you’d registered with the Covid app, some didn’t bother asking! Based on this costa being within a hospital (also being used by doctors, nurses etc) I would have thought it would have been better run given the current climate.

Poped in for some lunch. Waited at the front of the queue for 8 minutes whilst the two behind the counter made two drinks. Young bloke then eventually took my order and took my panini to be heated. Ordered a drink, which wasnt available, but only found out whilst my panini was sitting there getting cold. Asked for a refunding, but after standing there watching the clueless team leader trying to figure it out, i just grabbed a cold drink from the fridge. Usually have such a great experience in other Costas, but unfortunately this one is lacking competent staff.

Ordered a large and got a medium portion, fairly unimpressed. Also, quite rude member of staff at the door shouting orders at people. The two serving and making drinks were polite.

Just dropped a relative at A&E, so feeling a bit worried and miserable. The ladies serving me were really pleasant and the decaffeinated cappuccino with soya milk and a hot bacon bap were delicious and just what my husband and I needed for a pick my up! Thank you xx

I always come here with my daughter. Good prices, nice people, nice atmosphere. Everything you could want from a coffee house :-)

Variety of coffees to choose and sip

Usual Costa, so nice americano and fajita wrap. You need a coffee from your receipt for the toilet. Weird high pitched noise in the store drove me away, not sure what it was (I assumed it was a car alarm outside, but i couldn't hear it once I left the store)

I have visited here a couple of times. Usually quite friendly, very busy but disappointed with cleanliness the crockery wasn’t clean. It’s a shame Only 2 items of sourdough rolls bacon or sausage it would be nice if they provided sourdough bread cheese toastie. I had tea which was ok.

Staff are lovely and polite and helpful but desperately lacking in numbers. Coffee often cold, flavour less and environment is unclean, tables dirty and hardly ever cleared. For the price of their products it a very poor show.

Of course this is a standard Costa, so you'll know what to expect in the way of coffee and cakes, so I would say there are no surprises here. Hygiene is, I observed, not necessarily a top priority, cakes being piled up on the previous ones, so I wouldn't want one off the bottom...... Cake plates replaced unwiped and domes mucky. I don't think you will be made ill, but the standard is not as high as I would expect from Costa.

Excellent service and great coffee

Conveniently situated Costa outlet with adjacent free car parking in a compact retail park. Usual selection of drinks and eats - coffees were well made and service was pleasant. Light and airy with a small patio area at the entrance made our visit a pleasant experience - can’t say that for all the Costa’s I have visited!

Absolutely delish skimmed de caf flat white in Turners Rise. Colchester. Essex. We had broken down and were waiting for recovery to pick us up. If you had to break down that was the place to be 😊

Visited Costa Coffee for a quick lunch with my husband. And yet again they have nothing to eat as a Vegan except one brand of crisps. All the other crisps are not vegan friendly. They used to do a vegetable Thai curry pot which Vegans could eat. But on the last 6 occasions we have been here, no luck. This is a favourite place we like to come, but it looks like we’ll have to start going to Starbucks instead where they have at least 3 options. Yet again I’ll sit here hungry, watching others eat. 🙁

Slowest service EVER!! And it wasn't even lunch time!

Fantastic little Costa located on the beginning of the retail park. Good layout inside with lots of different seating options from tables to sofas and bench. Outside seating is also available aswell. Staff were friendly and activetly tiding up trays and tables. Definitely worth a visit if you're a Costa fan.

Staff lacking in motivation. When I ordered my drink and then proceeded to get some sugar from the usual area where sugar and napkins are kept, it was empty. This was not a problem until i asked a member of staff if I could have some sugar. However, when the member of staff went off to go and get me some she left me standing for 10 minutes and then forgot about me completely. Have been in here at least twice in order to give place a chance. Will avoid this costa and use the other ones in the local area.

Needed a refreshing drink after shopping today, my wife had a lovely cloudy lemonade - tart and cold and I had an almost flavour free peach tea - disappointing. Blackcurrant sponge was tasty, so not too bad overall. Don't ask for a large drink though, the choices are called small and medium...

Topical Costa busy, quite noisy & seats hard. Coffee good though.

They have all the coffee and tried americano and the smoothie The coffee was columbian roast . The coffee was good for a break. Tested their Belgium chocolate frostino👌

Consistently get orders wrong. You have to literally stand there and watch them make your drink and point out what they need to add/remove from your drink.

Great place for a coffee and snack and meet friends

On entry tables were clear, floor clean and tidy, but it was fairly quiet. Served quickly and both the coffee and snacks were lovely. Staff friendly and got the order spot on, which wasn't the case in a other Costa yesterday. Whilst there other tables were cleared to keep free for other customers.

So we all know it's a a Costa. Costa is as Costa does. However, this is a really comfortable building with bright large open windows (not exactly much of a view, but good lightings at least). The staff are generally really pleasant and polite, always eager to help and will make sure you've got what you asked for. Try and avoid the lunch rush, if you're just out for a wander and a meetup though, as it serves a fairly large commercial area and can get pretty busy between about 12-2. Facilities are generally clean and accessable (though no adult disabled toilet facilities that I'm aware of) and the coffee is good (well, again, it's a Costa - you know what you're getting!)

Meets Costa standards, very good, if a little busy. I ordered a latte and it came out very quickly, I chose a seat by the window and enjoyed the atmosphere and looking out at the car park

A shame really every time I go to this Costa the will in some way get the order wrong. It's never a complicated order but yet, I dont know off they're rushing or not listening but something goes wrong.

I like to come in and have a coffee and read the paper. Third time I've asked and been told by the manager there wasn't any papers today. Unfortunately this manager always looks unkept with a dirty shirt and jeans. Not happy.

Very slow service again and the staff all look so miserable. Not sure what happened to the Manager there he was always polite and things were quite efficient.
