Not for vegetarians unless you’re fond of deep fried potato rolled up and labelled a ‘sausage’ for breakfast. Kitchen staff also very dismissive when asked - incredibly poor customer skills. Very disappointing this morning, won’t be coming back again.

Went for the adventure golf with my 3 year old as he loved dinosaurs and we had a blast. Was a little quicker then expected so decided to have lunch. Then it all took a turn. Apon entering the restaurant it was wonderfully air conditioned. Sat by the window. We were a little early for lunch so decided to have a drink first. 2 cokes and a j20. Coke was flat and got 3 bits of ice each in a hot glass. But whatever, I can live with that as was thirsty. I asked if we could order lunch now (11.45) ready for them to start cooking it at 12 when it started. Was told it was fine by the chef (who was working on the bar which was strange). Was told the oven just needed a little time to heat up. After I'd ordered I saw the digital thermometer said 85⁰ so immediately I knew I'd made a mistake. Working with these ovens for the last 5 years I knew it'd be a minimum of 30-40 minutes before the stone was hot enough. But we weren't in a rush so decided we could wait. 40 minutes passed and still no pizza (bare in mind with a correctly temperature oven they should take 3 to 4 minutes to cook) so I went to ask how long they'd be. You lady asked the chef and we were told they're coming. Ham and pineapple and a pepperoni, easy right. Wrong. Ham and pineapple arrived. We were told the chef wasn't happy with the pepperoni so was making another. So we thought that's fine, it happens. Until we started to eat and the dough was raw. Cheese and toppings over cooked and the sauce was just tomato puree and very, very salty. Returned it immediately explaining why and was told they'd make another. Another 35 minutes passed with 3 tables and 3 members of staff having there meals cooked and served before I had to get up and ask again. Was told they were coming. Sat back down, 3 minutes later the pepperoni arrived. Again, straight away I could tell, cheese (which strangley I think was Cheddar) over cooked, greasy, crust burnt and dough only just cooked but still a soggy base. 3 year old was restless at this point so we had no choice. Then the Ham and pineapple arrived and it was the same story all over again. Apon receiving the final pizza we were asked if we'd like a drink to compensate which was something I suppose. I feel sorry for the poor girl on the bar. I think she wasn't old enough to serve alcohol so that's why the chef had to keep coming out and pouring pints. We were the only others in there eating for the best part of 40 minutes. Pizza was awful, tasted better from your local kebab house, the building in its entirety looks tired and in need of maintenance. I used to come a lot 5 or 6 years or so to play golf, but it's fallen a long, long way from the quality it used to possess. Needs some attention all round. Would recommend the adventure golf and the golf facilities as both were and look great. If only the same tlc was turned to TKC. Won't return to eat in a hurry.

I Have just finished having a meal at The Kitchen Club with family. The Carvery option was incredible. The vegetable soup was very tasty and full of flavour. Great starter. The meat option was perfect as we were asked "would you like some more meat?" That was a nice touch as there didnt seem to be any restrictions to the size of your portion. Pork, Turkey and Beef sourced from a local butchers. Dessert was great too

Been to play the crazy golf course on the site where this cafe is situated twice over the last few days and decided to have some lunch after the second occasion. However my 8 year old wasn't allowed to order from the child's menu as it was 11.30am and the chef said "it's bit early for that". Or at least that's what the very polite waitress was told to tell us as he didn't come out to talk to us directly. On further questioning and another trip for her to talk him a message was relayed to us that the children's menu was a lunch menu and lunchtime started at 12. It wasn't exactly busy so maybe trying to please their customers by being a bit more flexible might increase their takings. We had to order from the adult breakfast menu and my son had a sausage sandwich which he wasn't really keen on as he wanted one of the children's options. I had the cooked breakfast which was OK but the scrambled egg was pretty runny. it was just below the standard you'd get at Premier Inn.

This is only the 2nd review so plenty of time to improve but it took over an hour to serve our food, 30 minutes to clean the table of the previous table, if you imagine a table divided by 6, he wiped the dirt of of one part, when I asked if they would clean the rest he cleaned 2 of 6, I wasn't going to ask again! However the place looks really nice and they were friendly (gave a free round of drinks for it taking soon long). It could have just been an unusually busy day. They have a kids menu too

Bright and airy (with ample parking and a great view of the driving range, as well as being open to non-members of the golf club) TKC offers a wide range of delicious and ample breakfasts/brunches/light lunches using highest-quality ingredients. I could not fault any of the delicious sausage, bacon, mushroom, grilled tomato or poached egg in my meal. Friends thoroughly enjoyed their scrambled eggs with smoked salmon; brie and cranberry baguette; and assorted sandwiches. I was impressed that one of the chefs troubled to come to tell us (at around midday) that, if any of us wanted a pizza, the pizza oven was still warming-up and would take another 15 minutes to be at full cooking temperature. All of which said the service, although friendly, was quite-puzzlingly, very slow indeed. Great coffee! But treat the hot chocolate topped with 'squirty' cream from a can and topped with mini-marshmallows as a mildly-disappointing pudding. I will be back to sample a pizza and their Eggs Benedict - when I am not in a hurry to be elsewhere.

Basically, it was my birthday and I decided I'd hit up the golf club which was great as we hit a few balls and had a laugh. When it came to going in the kitchen club the service and food was great and I was enjoying myself until my friend found a tiny little green caterpillar scurrying around on his plate. That's right, the thing was still alive and doing who knows what on the plate. Me and my friends, being the non eating caterpillar gentlemen we are, told the nearest staff member who came across as someone with some authority but had no way of giving it off as he took no responsibility for the issue in hand. He told the chef and then left us alone for a solid 15 minutes. We had to get up and go over to him to ask how the issue would be resolved. He said no to any kind of resolution and offered us a cute £1.50 off our meal bill. Haha. Mate that wasnt gonna work. Now we are here writing reviews on our service the silly sausage. We took the discount for what it was and left as soon as we could as the atmosphere was horribly loud and the staff were just blunt and non interactive and seemed almost as if it was our fault we found a caterpillar in our food the silly guy. Btw we had to argue a little to get the discount, he told us it was none of their fault. If I'm honest, go hit some tiny balls up the range but don't visit their kitchen club because honestly it's the worst club you shall join.

Me and some friends went to celebrate a birthday and the service was terrible you would get better at McDonalds the staff there grumpy didn't care about there jobs and where really bad with timing. We waiting about 1 hour just for a sandwich then when I received the sandwich there was a caterpillar in my salad and I told a member of staff and he was really rude and simply said " I'll tell the chef" and then he cleared out table as we were finished and didn't come back with the bill so we had to go up frustrated at the poor service and pay and get out... Visited TKC on a Sunday, was extremely quiet but it was late on in the afternoon. Asked the chef on duty, a polite young man called Thomas, his recommendation as the menu has recently changed. He recommended the daily special that was chicken in a smoky bbq sauce which wasn't unnecessary sweet like many you have these days, this was served with a corn on the cob and a side on coleslaw, this was very reasonable priced as where the triple cooked chips with truffle Mayo. I also had a in house made apple crumble which had a delightful sour note that went well with the sweet custard. Although the meal was very good, it wasn't on the menu but I'm sure the rest of the menu is of the same quality. Would go back again, especially to check out what gems are on the specials board.

This is a restaurant on the golf course in Bakers Lane. We went there for breakfast.Oddly enough, for a restaurant attached to a golf course, it hasn't got an ambience one would expect in an establishment like this. It is very careen like and rather noisy with very poor deco. The food itself is of quite good quality but nothing to shout about. In otherwise it is not that special for what they charge.I expected better in a place like this.

My fiancee and I went to the Kitchen Club for dinner and I have to say I don't understand some of the recent reviews. The service was great and the food was even better. You would certainly pay more for the same quality of food at other places. We both had pizzas which could easily have been prepared in a good Italian. It's such a shame it's out of the way and was so quiet when we were in there (only 2 other tables had people at them). There isn't even a sign advertising the restraunt on the way in so unless you google/tripadv. In advance you'll miss it.If we find ourselves in Colchester again we would definitly return.

Like the restaurant but food choice was limited today and no Sunday lunch ! Waitresses apart from one were clueless about drinks and offers. One said we could have two mains for price of one in January, only to be told when paying the bill that it didn't include all mains. Why is it fashionable to have food served on a board what's wrong with a plate ?!

I was a huge fan of the kitchen club at playgolf when it was first starting out it was fantastic - good food, prompt service and a responsive kitchen management. However, I dined here more recently it was a truly terrible experience. The pasta Arabiatta was tasteless, devoid of any spice and very sub-standard. I was dining with a guest whose meal was forgotten about altogether. I ordered a side which had been ommitted from the order. All in all, a terrible experience. The management did give us the meal free of charge which although appreciated did not make up for the poor quality of food or poor service. Unfortunately, although I was promised a call back from management on two occasions, I have never received one. I have been a huge supporter of playgolf to date and have been so keen for them to grow and become the next big thing in Colchester. Playgolf - Please take heed of what your critics are saying. Changes need to be made. Constructive criticism needs to be acted upon and management really really needs to pull this place back before it sinks with other below-par restaurants long forgotten about. This restaurant could be so much more than just a golfers cafe but it needs the work and commitment to be invested into it....

The four of us dined at the Amphora suite on Easter Sunday and to say we had a fabulous meal is an understatement! For my main course I ordered roast beef, and I have to admit I am the worlds biggest critic of poorly cooked beef. I have lost count of how many times I've been disappointed by the poorly cooked beef in the past. Well, to say this beef was perfect is a understatement! It almost melted in the mouth. I like my beef raw but not blue, the waitress asked as she took our order how we liked our beef? Wow, that's a first! And when it came it was exactly as ordered. Not just mine but the two ordered as medium were also perfect. Ok, I know I'm going on a lot about the beef but it was so refreshing to be served such perfectly cooked beef! My wife ordered the Sea Bream, which was also perfect. Main course was followed by equally excellent desserts, then bottomless coffee & tea.The staff were attentive with out being pushy or absent! On this occasion we had a live singer who set the mood perfectly. As My parents in law said, it was a meal you didn't want to end.Thank you Mark, Lucy and your team. You should all be very proud of the standards you are already achieving. I know we will be dining with you again.

All in all a great lunch we look forward to seeing you all again very soon.

Reviewing this as the Sunday lunch in the dinning room and not using the cafeteria. It is 3 courses with 5 choices in each. The crispy prawns & the duck rolls, 4 & 3 respectively, are standard Chinese supermarket fare & cost about 10p each. The sirloin of beef was excellent quality & other members of our party were happy with their chicken & pork choices. Now another 'grump', the house wine, both white & red Italian cheap 'tanker' wine being retailed at £15.50 a bottle! No body or flavour to either & made Blossom Hill seem passable! A good choice of desserts and everyone seemed happy with their choice. Don't go for the coffee, although served in a Cona jug it was very poor and tasted more like instant than fresh coffee. Overall with the lunch at around £20 per head and expensive wine, there are better alternatives to be found. Just a word to the management, the live music is pleasant but a little too loud for those trying to have a conversation.

Four of us went last night (Saturday) for a Sweet Sensation Evening, the evening was all about desserts which I loved but that wasn't all. We started with a lovely mixture of starters which was an unexpected addition to the menu. For mains we had a choice of either loin of cod or pulled pork, i had the cod which was cooked perfectly and was very tasty, two of us had cod and two pork, you wouldn't have gone wrong with either they looked great and tasted even better. Four beautifully presented desserts followed, all freshly made and very refreshing. The atmosphere was very comfortable and relaxed, the evening flowed. The restaurant is open to the public but note it is part of the golf club complex and used by the golfers for coffee or lunch etc after a round of golf. The tables (8, 4 and 2, seats) are spaced well apart giving plenty of room. Seats are available inside or on the patio area outside (at present the patio overlooks the car park in part but shrubbery has been planted and which should be an improvement when mature) . However, again, as part of a golf club it should be noted that Sky Sports is on in one corner but it is not intrusive. Windows in one part overlook the driving range which can be an attraction for those golfers who want to see how others do it! The menu is reasonable and varied. It is very well presented and the service was excellent. On our visit we took advantage of the special, "fish and chips" with a cup of coffee, £7.50 which whilst not large portions was more than adequate and most enjoyable. There is ample car parking and for those wishing to consider a function a look at the adjoining function room and general facilities is well worth the time. Please note that access is via Bakers Lane which is a narrow road so care should be taken. Happy to recommend a visit.

The most ridiculous queuing system. They make you form a single line instead of just spreading across the bar like normal pubs. The result is 15 min wait for a drink in a boozer that isn't even busy. So annoying you leave after one drink. Queuing across is much quicker hence every other pub in the City does it.

This evening we came to Costa as a group of 9-10 people and ordered several drinks. Unfortunately, our cappuccinos were very bitter, and none of us could drink them. We are regular Costa customers and drink coffee multiple times a day. When the coffee tasted too bitter for us, we politely informed the staff and requested some extra milk. The staff member responded rudely, saying, ‘This is how we always serve it. Order a latte next time,’ in a very condescending tone. We explained that we drink coffee daily and that this was not the usual taste. Additionally, we were told that Costa Rewards don’t work here because it’s a franchise, but I mentioned that this is not accurate, as rewards should be usable if we are using the Costa app. Overall, the staff’s attitude was not polite or customer-focused, which left a very negative impression.
