We chose two bacon ciabatta rolls, a chicken focaccia, a coffee latte and a half white coffee. The bacon was dry and burnt on the edges and pretty tasteless. The focaccia was fine. The total bill came to just over £20. Which I certainly did not regard as value for money.

As students, me and my friends come here to study (bare in mind we are quiet and respectful people) we haven’t been treated in a nice manor. Been here a few times, hoping to have a better experience than the last and we could never be more wrong. Addressed as ‘oi listen…’ etc. Never had a worse experience anywhere. The food is over priced for the quality and the ‘hot’ drinks were served cold, when I asked for a new one I was asked to pay again. Wouldn’t recommend

I visited this cafe this month. In the middle of a drink and work, the Manager decided to close early. Upon complaining, I was screamed at. It was confirmed by Fenwick staff that he shouldn't have closed early. Incredibly unwelcoming and cold. Very rude staff. Drinks were also of poor standard and certainly not made by a batista.

The staff are quite young but always serve you with a smile, despite the rush and stress of the job, the unfortunate rude impatient customer and so on. Most make an good cappuccino with a decent amount of froth. Shame caffe nero charges extra for decaf, that is one thing I do not understand. The shop does close quite early though. The Nero in town also closes earlier than Starbuck and costa, and you get chucked out at 5pm. The in town nero is less nice than the fenwicks one, the staff are less friendly and store is less clean and feels more shabby than chic. Also at both Neros, the vegetarian options are very limited and often there is nothing there...

unfortunately there isn’t a rating low enough to describe my visit. The staff are extremely rude and unwelcoming and treat customers depending on their age and “status”. I’m truly disgusted that this still happens and cannot comprehend how shocked i was at their manner. Thank god i will not be returning, and i advise everyone i encounter to do the same. Not impressed at all, especially as it’s just a coffee shop and they’re speciality is hot water and a tea bag, which is funny considering the pretentiousness of their staff - quite the laughing stock really.

Somewhere to kick back and rest your weary feet, after a mooch around, nice coffee and relaxing area to sit and watch others wander up and down, toilets another flight of stairs up in the corner of another floor is a bit of a pain, staff friendly ok for a place to stop and refuel.

Served a decent coffee, along with fruit scones with jam etc. All very tasty, in pleasant industrial style decor, by friendly staff. Bonus for me, was there was no faffing and time wasting you often get at coffee shops, served quickly, two coffees, two scones etc for under £10.

After a lot of site seeing in Colchester we were gasping for a cup of tea and a sit down, all the cafes were full then as were turned the corner into Culver Street we were greeted with an empty table in the front window of Cafe Nero.We both had a cream tea that was fresh and very tasty.Good toilets and friendly staff.

Never a dull moment, or just repetitive and irritating for £3? Every-time I go into this coffee franchise there's always something wrong, this occasion there was no exception. Ordered a decaf large American-o and guess what the prices quoted on the board are different on what appears in the till receipt. (10p is charged extra for decaf). I know its petty but this is a trading standards issue, the increase in charge is not clearly displayed and the staff can't even see the extra charge disclaimer. Then I was asked if I would like and accompanying compliment to the drink i.e. milk full/half/skimmed or cream. When I asked for "pouring cream a thimble full" I was told they had "just run out", that isn't the first time either ! The place was rather nice and staff seemed worked but good this would have been a "3" star experience write up if it were not for the maladies. After speaking to Fenwick management they have taken up the issues and offered a suitable outcome. The article is based on personal opinions, experience and perceptions, as a short stop customer for a £3 bill.

Lovely quaint cafe with a good atmosphere selling a nice range of hot & cold drinks as well Panini's, sandwiches, hot snacks, cakes & biscuits, I was served by a friendly new trainee who made me a very tepid & over foamed large cappuccino, I didn't have the heart to take it back to him as it did taste nice enough.

I have been using this place for many years, although sometimes the waiting time sends me elsewhere. Café Nero always sells good tasty coffee. I first experienced it when in Central London several years ago. It was a real surprise, being much more like the coffee you get in Rome, rich aromatic and strong. So much better than the weaker stuff available in the UK Starbucks at the time. So I'm a devotee. Like other chains they serve pre packed sandwiches, which I generally avoid. Why the chains can't manage freshly prepared food like the independents is beyond me. However, on this occasion I'd missed breakfast so I handed the barista a Butchers Sausage Roll. It looked good, in what looked like a good quality bread roll. What a disaster. When it arrived at the table it had been squashed flat. The plump roll been converted to something that had the nature of two thin planks of wood. The steel knife provided was not up to the task of cutting through the roll, and I had to break the bottom piece in half by hand. The one and a half sausage inside was tasty enough, but hardly generous. Why serve excellent coffee but ruin the experience by serving indifferent food? If you're looking for food you'd be better going to Harper's Caffe, more or less next door.

Spa day for Mothers' day. Lucky that the beauty therapists were so good because it saved the day. Pool area looked very good but the aromatherapy room had nothing of aromatherapy about it and the pool itself was icy. The relazing pool was also too cold to sit in but the jacuzzi was warm: unfortunately the bubbles were absolutely violent and because so much chlorine had been used in the water, it was spat in your eyes and we had to get out, eyes streaming. So we went to get our afternoon tea: what a disappointment! When we got to the café area we were left waiting for quite some time with no one to seat us. The room was in a mess: tables covered with detritus. They only managed to clear up by getting a beauty therapist to come and clear the tables! We settled in for tea.5 minutes later we had eaten it! We each had the equivalent of 2 slices of bread cut into 4 little sandwiches. Only 2 fillings: cheese and tomato and egg mayonnaise. Usually if you go out for afternoon tea you have double this amount and are then offered more. At Ballentynes you had a couple of mouthfuls and when we asked for more were told we would have to pay for them! The one scone each was actually very nice but the cake selection was dismal, with a small piece of chocolate cake that we had to cut to share ourselves and another that looked so amateurish that neither of us wished to sample it. Absolutely nothing special about this "special Mothers' Day" event. As is often the case in hospitality the management is trying to increase the profit margin by cutting back on the quality of the offer once payment has been taken and cutting back on staff so that staff, who were, I should add, all very pleasant, are rushing around and unable to provide the expected level of service. The place is definitely not meeting it's potential. We will not be visiting again.

Excellent pub with fine selection of real ale. We received a warm welcome and were served quickly and professionally with our drinks. On a whim we decided to have lunch which was superb: I enjoyed the home made mince and onion pie in suet pastry with beautifully cooked vegetables, and my husband enjoyed the Vegetable and Quorn curry. The pub had a good crowd of regulars which made for a happy and community atmosphere. The pub is old style- just as we like it; spotlessly clean and traditional in all regards. Highly recommend this pub and look forward to visiting again when next in Bures.

***** NO WONDER THIS PLACE IS CLOSING DOWN ***** Paid for a taxi to have breakfast only to find they have no chef and no staff and greeted by an unapologetic receptionist. Can’t find this anywhere on their website, met another gentleman standing in the Carpark after also booking a taxi for breakfast. DO NOT BOTHER WITH BEEFEATER AS A WHOLE COMPANY IF THEY HAVE SUCH LITTLE REGARD FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS.
