Absolutely brilliant service, staff are so friendly, food is lovely! Lovely atmosphere. Very very good. Gemma and James really do an amazing job and all of the staff!

Great Welcome by Mr.Karan. I was lucky enough to get a window sit(I didn’t reserve a table). Amazing food I definitely recommend to have Halloumi fries.A big thank you for your hospitality.

Spend a couple of hours sitting out the front watching the world go by. Good selection of beer. Food was good we has scampi and chips slightly disappointed in portion sizes, a few more chips would have been good. Will be back.

I had reserved a table so my daughter and I could eat dinner. The table we sat at was very sticky and didn't feel like it had been cleaned for a while. Not a great start. We ordered a kids vegetarian sausages, chips and veg sticks with ice cream for dessert. I ordered a roast beef dinner. It came up very quick probably because it was just boil in the bag beef. It had been described as beef served pink. It was thin slices of chewy beef very overcooked. The roast potatoes were frozen and had black bits. The veg was also frozen and heated quickly. Not sure about the cauliflower cheese. It was the worst meal I have had in a long time. My daughter's vegetarian sausages were dry and hard. The chips tasted like rubber. The veg sticks were the only bit that was nice. No one asked if our meal was OK. My daughter got her ice cream, ate it and we just left straight after. This is why I am giving a review now. Absolutely awful, would not recommend.

Lucky to get a table. Good choice of food. Looked good tasted good all at a reasonable price. Will definitely go back again. Staff friendly and obliging.

Came here on regatta day looked like a nice pub from the outside but looks can be deceiving the staff were rude shouting at customers across the bar if they take too long ordering a drink also was very expensive don’t know if they raised their price for the event day and charged a deposit on each glass which we were not told until we paid for the round overall wouldn’t bother going here again

Just dropped in for a drink whilst out and about and down in the area on holiday. Seemed a really nice Pub. Sat outside as a lovely day weather wise and we had the dog with us. Will definitely back when back in the area.

Absolutely love this pub. I moved to Wivenhoe 5 years ago and this pub was a bit of a joke with locals, but since Gemma and her partner have taken it over it's completely changed. The food is really nice pub food, the beer is kept well (or so my husband tells me), the it is clean and the staff are lovely. It's all done with a river view. It's dog friendly and during the day really accepting of kids and families, but in the evening is great for adults. Absolutely fantastic and thank you to Gemma and her partner for their hard work.

Was told an hour and a half wait for food, and item we wanted was out of stock anyway.

Yeah nice pub, good staff, good food, baby changing facilities in toilets but no disabled toilet i saw and toilets do need some work done to them.

Just popped in on the off chance. Staff were really welcoming, responsive and attentive, despite being busy. Food and drink had a wide range of options and what we had all tasted great...and at a good price! The atmosphere was really welcoming. I would recommend this pub in the strongest terms and definitely visit again if I am in the area.

Had an average fish and chips here last week. Husband had pie. Not sure they know how to do mash though.

Thursday night quiz with the one and only Mr Chippy is a night not to miss. With his snazzy style, cracking jokes and unbelievable prizes he is an amazing host 10/10 would not miss!

Had a lovely walk down to the rose and crown. Food was lovely, but was a bit of a wait for it to come out, they were very busy though. We still had a great time. Will definitely visit again.

Walked all the way from Colchester to have lunch here, only for them to finish their "brunch menu" at 1:30, the staff were rude, brunch menu isn't actually brunch, it's just a breakfast menu. No I didn't receive anything free, you got the wrong person.

We love it here. Staff friendly and great service. We live here and out of 6 not 7 pubs, has become our favourite, have to say, it's because of the attentive, caring, polite staff. Food is better than you would expect, it's not al carte, but it's better then the menu! Here for st paddy day, John with member of staff, slainte.. Happy paddy day all.

Very good service from one of the the staff called karan he was very polite and satisfied me in all aspect i expected it was worth more than i thought it would be thanks a lot karan and rose and crown team for amazing services and drinks were amazing as well as the food provided was delicious

Although we have visited this pub/restaurant many times over the past twenty years or so, we haven't been back for a couple of years having now moved out of the area. So we were hoping that the standards hadn't dropped in the intervening years. And we weren't disappointed! The food and the service were excellent, and as good as you're likely to find at a Greene King establishment!

Food was sub standard for the price, service wasn't great. We had to ask for milk after waiting once a pot of tea arrived, we had to ask for spoons for our soup, just got slices of bread with it and was given 5 pieces for two people. Pretty basic stuff to get wrong really.

Not great but not bad. Food pretty bog standard but not as good as I expected. Would go back but wouldn't choose to.

Lovely waterfront pub, sit outside and watch tide come in and go out. In the summer the Wivenhoe Ferry goes up and down the river to Rowhedge and Fingrinhoe. There is a great selection of all day food including a morning breakfast. Dogs are allowed in the bar and there's a menu for dog food and free treats and water. A good selection of evening entertainment every weekday evening. Well done Gemma, James and all the staff for a lovely friendly pub

A really lovely traditional pub with a great atmosphere and good service but the food really lets it down. We had the steak and cheese with was small and average and the Mac and cheese was very salty and watery. Was definitely made from some kind of just add water packet mix. Could be great, please improve your food guys.

First of all just realised you could book online, so this was a bonus, we have been for breakfast before and that was great so thought we would book for a lunch, we both opted for pie mash, veg and gravy, in our opinion they were both really tasty and good size, and tasted homemade, and not dry at all, we were offered more gravy if we required it, staff are always so welcoming and friendly, we will definitely be back for more, it’s also such a lovely quaint pub, they also offer a good choice and selection of draught ciders and beers.

We've been here with my friends as french tourists ( we wanted to taste English Breakfast). And it was great. I'm veggie and i found alternative so I was happy that I could also enjoyed it without meat. Even if they had no more eggs, the manager gave us extra potatoes & sausages 🥰 we spent such a good time here in Wivenhoe !

I have visited with my friends and the staff Divya and Karan are great with their service, and food had no reason not to fall in love with. Really recommend for traditional English food and great selection of ales. The vintage looks of pub always leaves me in awe

Friday 12th January came to this good pub in wivenoe on the banks of the river Colne This pub is a friendly cosy locals pub with good staff and owners. The beer is good and well staffed There are brilliant views of the river Colne This pub i would drink real Ales in again if ever i come to Wivenhoe

First time Ive eaten here since the change of management. The food was really good and the service was great.

Have been around this pub for 30 years or so off and on, and this is one of the best iterations of it to date. Menu is extensive, but not to the point where the quality of the food suffers. Beer choice is good, with no neglecting of the classics for poor quality craft beer. Plenty of tables for a small pub and very dog friendly, to the point of having a dog snack menu (including a Sunday roast option for them). Great cosy atmosphere, makes a fantastic local that welcomed everyone.

Popular small pub on the quay at Wivenhoe with a great outlook over the river and outside seating for summer or milder days. Has character and service was friendly. They have a brunch menu and I had the bacon sandwich which, when it arrived, caused comments from all the group at how disappointing it looked. For £4.50 it was two small rounds of sliced bread part toasted? with one slice of bacon in each, no butter so it was also quite dry. To be fair (and the reason I didn't drop more stars) the others had other items and were happy with theirs, the english breakfast looked nice. It won't stop me returning, but hopefully this will be taken as feedback that the bacon sandwhich could be a lot better.

The beef and ale pie was pure perfection - I can see why it won the gold standard award! Cosy vibes and everyone was so friendly and helpful. A big shoutout to Monica, who couldn’t have been more attentive. We will be coming again soon!

Me and my husband have just enjoyed a very tasty and filling breakfast welcomed by good service from the manager and no fuss for when we changed items on the menu to suit to our liking compliments to the chef highly recommend 5 star also a good spot for a pint or two

Mum and I were the only two eating in the restaurant/bar. The food was very average. The staff were very pleasant but again was very average. I didn't feel they went out of their way for anything!! We had to get up and go to the bar to pay - didn't tell us and the food was over priced for the quality. Very disappointing. 🙄
