The best restaurants in East of England

Went to hotel chocolat bury St Edmunds with my friends for a hot chocolate, my friend asked the man at the counter if you do white hot chocolate, to which he shortly replied 'look at the board' This to me is rude and poor customer service. To me a reply like 'yes we do, what size would you like' is more reasonable. Maybe hotel chocolat need to check that their employees are happy. I cannot understand why would said person work in the retail industry if he doesn't like being asked a simple question. If someone asks if you do white chocolate hot chocolate they are pretty much saying that's what they want if you have it

Stopped here for a coffee mid-bike ride. Nice service, lovely coffee. It's now my preference over Winner's Cafe where I had a terrible cup of coffee a couple of weeks ago (I must have arrived at a bad time).

We visited here 2 weeks ago for a coffee and then today for baguettes and drinks and sat outside in the sun. Lovely friendly staff on both occasions. Clean outside tables and lovely clean shop. Delicious baguettes plenty of choice and 2 sizes available. Will definitely return.

Second time we have been here for takeaway. Fish and batter nice chips nice. Crisp and not greasy. Salad very large and nice. Not too expensive either. Would recommend

Really lovely lunch at San Fairie Ann. We were a table of five and we had four different dishes, all were great. On ordering we were advised of cooking times as some of our dishes were cooked to order which was helpful to understand. We also had side dishes which were not listed on the menu but were no problem for them to provide and were very yummy. Friendly and attentive staff and nice atmosphere. Would definitely return if visiting Southend.

We have just had an excellent fish and chip meal in the restaurant at Winkies. The food was piping hot, lovely light and crisp batter on the fish and well-cooked chips. We were made to feel very welcome and the whole experience was very enjoyable.

I used to visit this restaurant frequently prior to Covid lockdown. I’ve finally managed to come back again as I always enjoyed the food and the service. I’ve realised this was a big mistake! Poor slow service with only 3 tables that had clients. I was finally the only client but that didn’t make the service faster. I believe it’s under new management? The pizza has been watered down. No glimpse of tomato sauce on magherita pizza. I am really disappointed and I’ll be not coming back here again.

Friendly staff and good food. We have been a few times and the restaurant has always been on the quieter side and unsure why as it’s great! Cocktails also really nice and great presentation.

Well that’s just ruined my diet for the foreseeable future! WOW! The burger was like a taste eruption with every bite from start to finish. Perfectly cooked, seasoned, and balanced with fresh toppings and sauces. The loaded waffle fries which I expected to have a spoonful of bolognese on top, was a meal in itself. I regret having enjoyed it so much as I couldn’t stop eating and am now too full! And the milkshake? FINALLY a premium milkshake that tasted like a premium shake! 5 stars isn’t enough!

AVOID! Unfortunately the customer service is terrible, the way they address customers, serve customers and deal with customer complaints. I would never recommend this place to anyone and feel sorry for anyone who goes there and receives the experience I did, It completely destroyed my day! I expected a standard service, vintage feel- far from what I got. This is also a very over priced cafe. I’m not sure how they’re still in business. If you read previous reviews lots are very mixed and the ones this have given a bad review the business has no constructive replies. Left a bad review on google too and they accused me of ordering a milkshake.. have no idea what they’re on about nor did I ask for a refund. Plenty of other lovely places to eat in Lowestoft.

I went today at 8/01/2024,I went as a friend had told me about how helpful the owners are with people who are struggling with the basics like food and it took a lot of courage to ask for help.However when I arrived and I arrived in the specified time I was not even able to explain why I was there when I was just told were closed and the person then completely ignored me,I know I'm not entitled to hand outs this is a service which they do not have to provide however because I came to use the service does not mean I am not entitled to be treated how they would like to be treated and from what my friend told me they were the most caring empathetic people who work there but this was not what I found I understand people can have a bad day but it made me feel embarrassed and ashamed that I had come.
