Service with a smile (I find this a rarity these days) and very polite. Prompt service. Lovely food, smoothie bowl…highly recommend this place, will be going back again soon. 👍

A lot has changed in the year since I left my last review which I have now deleted. We visit about once a month. Food is still very good but the service is mostly suboptimal. Could be much more attentive and attuned to customer needs.

This pub is the best. Really friendly atmosphere. You can go in on your own, any time and there will always be someone to chat to, including the friendly bar staff/ team. George the manger is fantastic, very helpful, friendly and so organised and as for Graham the landlord, well, what can you say, a really nice friendly gentleman, full of laughs. The pub has a lovely feeling to it and looks very classy. The food is of a very high standard and you can either eat in the fabulous restaurant or in the bar. Once you have visited the Chequers, you will always want to return. Thanks for being in our village.

we always meet up here for a meal and usually enjoy our experience. Last night we were sat next to a large crowd which included young children they had finished their meal and were now drinking and we were just being served it was past 8pm. The children encouraged by the mother were loud and running up and down the middle of the restaurant. The staff failed to do anything to stop this. We asked them to stop their children running amok and were subjected to angry verbal abuse on behalf of the mother and threats y a male in the party because we complained to the staff. I was unable to eat my meal because I was too upset by the shouting and verbal abuse and when the waitress came to clear our table she asked if all was OK and I explained that I could not eat my meal because of the events and staff failure to do anything she retorted thats your problem. We were not offered a refund for my meal just an offer of complimentary coffee. We will not be returning.

Afternoon tea consisted of 3 tiny finger sandwiches, a tiny falafel and fish cake, a quarter of a wrap, one scone and a tiny triangle of brownie! It was pathetic and the older lady in charge spoke to the young staff members like a battle axe demanding them to do things! £40 for afternoon tea for two was daylight robbery! I’ve paid less and got a lot more!

We arrived without a booking but were greeted warmly by staff and taken to a table. Our drinks order came promptly and the menu had many tasty dishes to tempt us. Both dishes came hot and were delicious. The atmosphere was relaxing, not too noisy. We were too full to try the desserts but would definitely come back.

I've just had the smallest cup of coffee I've ever seen, and judging by the reviews I'm not the only one to think this. Together with it being a very small space for the size of the building and also very noisy with conversations from other tables, it was a very underwhelming experience. As for food, the all day breakfast menu looked ok but there was very little else to choose from, mostly cakes and if the coffee portion is anything to go by I wouldn't hold my breath for a decent sized serving! I'll be going back to the cafe at the YMCA which is much better value.
