The Riverside Pub & Kitchen in Newark and Sherwood

Came for dinner tonight, only 10 people eating so not at all busy. Two staff waiting on service was shocking the waitress was on her phone all the time had to ask for drink had to ask for sauce . Never was asked if the food was ok . Food was ok

First visit I had steak ordered medium rare it was cremated the other meal was fish and chips no one asked if everything was OK went to pay told waitress the steak was cremated no response

The menu was interesting not you usual pub menu. The food was delicious. Staff very polite helpful and friendly. If anything they took a while to clear the plates away.

Good spot on the river. Food was very good and service great at the beginning but then they seemed to forget abut us post main course so a very long wait for dessert menus etc which was a shame ( and odd as by this time the restaurant very quiet) . Nice ambience and would not hesitate to go again as all the food coming out looked nice.

Went here because friends wanted to go. I have to say the service was very much better this time and the food on the whole too was better than the last time we went ( although my burger was raw in the middle) soon fixed and it was overall a great value meal

What a smashing evening meal we enjoyed here, the restaurant atmosphere was good as was the decor and cleanliness. Our meals were cooked to perfection and served fresh and hot just as we like them, which just put the icing on the cake, so to speak. I am glad we reserved a table as the place was pretty busy with diners. I would like to point out that the manner of discreetly asking for a tip by asking the cash paying clients "do you want any change from that" is somewhat cheeky, tips are at the discretion of the diners and not the waiters, don't spoil some diners evenings!

My partner has a severe nut allergy which we informed staff of before ordering each course. When ordering dessert he asked the waiter to speak to the chef to find out what he could/couldn’t have and chose the cookie dough- we were told there was no problem swapping the sauce from a hazelnut one to one that didn’t contain nuts. When the waiter put the dessert down we asked again whether it was definitely without nuts- we were told yes. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case and he’d been served chocolate hazelnut sauce. Thankfully our friend had ordered the same dessert and we commented on how identical they both looked despite one supposedly being different, so to be safe I tried my partners before he ate it. Thank goodness I did, or we would have been in a very different position! Management were very apologetic which we appreciated as was our waiter (we were told this was the chef at fault), but this is an extremely serious issue that could have caused an anaphylactic reaction. Please be very careful eating here if you or anyone in your party has allergies.

This attractive riverside pub was extremely busy on the weekend we visited. The staff copped excellently. The drinks were excellent. The choice of foods varied and inventive. Well worth a visit. Not inexpensive but worth it.

Two couples pre-booked for a mid-week lunch, and a table was duly ready when we arrived. It is a nice, well kept pub. Food was of a good quality, although one of our party did say that their soup was only just warm. We all choose the main course of fish and chips, which was excellent, and a special mention must be made for the batter which was superbly light. So, why the score of four stars ? Three real issues. One was that for a table of four, it was far too small and we felt really cramped with our drinks and food. If we hadn't had a window seat to lay out the menus and surplus glasses then it would really have been an issue. The second, was the inordinately long time factor between starter and main course. One of our party who was quite a regular at this pub, actually had to speak to a waiter to speed things up. The third issue was that only two starters arrived when we had ordered four, and the waiter implied that we were wrong !!....we were not. Management do need to look at these issues.

An excellent meal as always, the wife's go to restaurant. Great selection of food, I especially enjoy the wings as a starter and the wife loves the mushroom starter. Great steak but I have never had an average meal here.

Very pleasant pub offering good service, pleasant ambience and good food. Have visited twice in recent weeks and on both occasions the soup was lukewarm and the main similarly so. I only mention this in the expectation that management will take note and address this recurring problem as I am visiting again soon.

As a Family we were getting together from several different areas of the country to celebrate our Son's 18th Birthday. From the initial enquiry, Robert and his team gave excellent service and nothing was too much trouble. The choice of menu was extensive, the food very tasty, and the atmosphere was very friendly. Thank you for helping to make our special celebration a success. We will definitely recommend to friends and family.

The Riverside offers a very good two or three course fixed price lunch menu with good choices for each course. Everything the three of us chose was well cooked and presented and tasted good. Service good. Really couldn’t fault them at all and, based on our experience, it probably deserves a better rating than its 4/5 on TA.

I would not normally have 2 courses of a lunchtime but the menu was great value and we saw several people go the whole hog and have the three course lunch. Service was really good and friendly for all the young people who served us from arriving at the bar to being seated at the table. We had to move tables as there was a very loud woman on the next table who was completely unaware that she might be annoying but the staff took it in their stride. All the food we had was tasty and very hot and nicely served. Only one comment would be was the fish pate was a little one note and something sharp like gherkins or the like or a chutney would break up the richness. Main courses were lovely, a nice pie and a super piece of pork. When you leave restaurant feeling nicely full, well satisfied and don’t feel you’ve had your pants pulled down on pricing it’s a win for us and therefore we will be back

We had a large party of thirty people, the service was outstanding, food was great , all courses were at the right time and I can recommend this restaurant !

We called in to,day, the river trent was up very high, but was in the dry, we had two fish and chips + mush peas, 0ne chicken meal, and one pork meal, all come out fresh and very hot, then finished with brill puddings and coffees, what a brill meal, staff was very ,very good, very good again for wheel chairs, and toilets, must book , but a great menu

Staff were attentive and friendly, the pub was pretty, the food was average at best. My burger wasn’t home made, lukewarm ti the point that my thin bit of cheese didn’t melt, 2 large raw onion rings in it. The chips were really more like crisps, greasy and overcooked. Daughter had the buttermilk chicken burger which had a coating which needs way more seasoning. The Turkey dinner was average and the pork dish had a soft greasy skin. This pub charges higher end prices for what I consider lower end food, perhaps some of the other dishes are lovely, but we felt that the meal was really the bare minimum in terms of effort and I would strongly suggest a rethink on some of the dishes.

Excellent service, staff friendly and quick. The decor is very nice, cosy and welcoming. Food very good. Would recommend to anyone. The fish and chips were excellent, cooked very well.

Went for lunch ,lovely inside ,we ordered drinks they arrived at our table my beer was off,staff member said ho it's the end of the barrel, I'll get you a new one ,she returns no beer they had to tap a new barrel, so it wouldn't be ready for a few hours. Why wasn't this checked the night b4 so they were ready for service next day? We ordered food we ordered 3 gammon steaks ,well iv had a thicker slice of ham from Tesco they stated on menu it was a gammon steak ,it DEFINITELY was not it was a slice of ham .and not worth the money. Will not be returning.

Always a must this pub if your in the area we always visit when going to skegness , amazing food , service and atmosphere. The children's portions are worth the money and good size the meatballs are delicious as well as the chips perfect not the cheapest of pubs but food worth the money.

Great service, staff excellent. Food was also good, family of 8 all enjoyed food. Outside area could do with a tidy up but apart from that we all enjoyed our time at the Riverside.

We were a family group of 30 ish arriving from different parts of the country, we had ordered in advance (a good idea). From start to finish the service was efficient and fast, the food was just amazing, crab cakes and porchetta followed by cheesecake pot. Well presented and beautifully cooked. Saw this place on TripAdvisor while looking for somewhere new to eat. It didn’t disappoint. Meal for two on Sunday evening and the food was absolutely wonderful. We had 3 mini plates to start with and the cauliflower was especially good. Really tasty!! I had the chicken for main course and the portion size was perfect. The sauce was gorgeous. Sadly the extremely long wait for our main course ruined what should have been an enjoyable and relaxing meal out. The food was very good, waiting 1 hour from our table booking at 6.45pm until 7.45pm when our main course arrived was not. Other tables received their food before ours arrived, who had ordered after us. I asked a waitress if she could check to see where our food was, her answer was ‘it’s being plated up now’ no apology. Decided to escape home for two nights for the first time since November 2019. Travelling in my ‘bubble’ with my daughter and grandson. Chose a location close to home and a place I normally catch the train to for day trips NEWARK. At 67 I was very nervous about eating out and I have found some establishments are dealing with Covid19 guidelines better than others. On Saturday night we headed out of Newark to Farndon. I was so reassured when I stepped into the Riverside. Hand sanitiser on arrival. Staff are wearing face masks. And more importantly screens between tables. We chose a lovely round table for the 3 of us. The experience felt safe. Staff were efficient and friendly. And of course importantly the food was good. Also for me a 5 star hygiene rating unlike the pub next door. Re screens and face masks Smart move on behalf of the management as this has allowed them to keep capacity. Glad they were adding 10% to bill too, as with No cash, contactless and no handling of the machine staff would loose out on tips. If I lived closer I would be back very very soon. Well done. We also went for a lovely walk after our meal down to Farndon Marina. Great experience all round.

Visited the riverside on the occasion of our anniversary. Our main concern was the Covid procedures. We were quickly at ease with the measures this establishment has taken. Every staff member wore face masks. Distancing, cleanliness was excellent Food was excellent.

Decided to book Sunday Lunch to take my mum who came to stay. This is the first time we’d eaten out since the restrictions were lifted. No need to worry everything is in place to make your visit special with new wooden see through screens against each table and hand sanitiser stations throughout. Lovely to be back and the reduced menu has plenty of choice and the food excellent as always. Well done to all the staff

Our first visit to a pub since lockdown (covid-19) and we weren’t disappointed....all the safety measures were in place, staff welcoming and the food delicious.

We just called in for a drink - first time in a pub since lockdown so reassured by sanitiser at doors, one way system for entry and exit , screens between tables which weren't imposing but tasteful - helpful staff , good wine , well organised - thank you

we have been a few times, meals are nice.we went today for a pint.we had doombar,eight pound and ten pence. no wonder the owner has a lovely big car.same two pints Newark cost four pound.even other pubs nearby are a lot cheaper.if you want to pay eight pound plus for two pints this the place for you.

Visited The Riverside yesterday for lunch before we went to The Palace Theatre in Newark. I could not fault this place, the food was amazing!! Nice wine and the staff were brilliant. The Manager is fantastic and really did go above and beyond for us. Will 100% be revisiting and recommending this pub to friends and family.

A great riverside pub well fitted with comfy chairs and cosy corners. Friendly bar staff and a great drinks and real ale selection.Although we were there for drinks the meals being served looked very good and we will come back for a meal. The location right by the river makes it a great venue for a summer party.
