Rose and Crown in Newark and Sherwood

Once again, an excellent Sunday dinner. The spring rolls were a tasty as a starter. We chose pork for our main course. We were served with a plate consisting of a generous portion of pork plus crackling, Yorkshire pudding , stuffing, roast and mashed potatoes, plus a jug of tasty gravy. Then came cauliflower cheese and a bowl of broccoli and grated cabbage on the side. There was a good selection of hot and cold sweets and coffee Highly recommended.

Called in for some lunch to this lovely Everards pub. What an absolute gem, the welcome was fantastic, the Tiger ale was up there with the best and the food was out of this world. This is a delightful pub with a hands on landlady and landlord who understand the importance of being visible in a true community pub. The lady that served us was also a diamond and treated us as if we were regulars, which we would be thrilled to be were it not for the distance from our home. We shall, however, be back for the lovely beer, the fantastic food and the impeccable hospitality. See you soon. Nick and Jo Moore

Best chicken tikka outside an Indian restaurant ever. Perfectly cooked steak and they even made gravy for me when asked to go with it. The service was spot on as well.

We had lunch for three, and we all had a different choice of hot food. Pie & mash, fish & chips and a chilli. The food was great, especially the homemade pie and onion gravy, which I had! The service was very slow. We waited about 30 minutes for our food. The bar appeared to be busy and the restaurant area quite until a female came into the restaurant and was speaking extremely loudly on her phone, in the middle of the room, which is of no fault of the owners but ruined what was supposed to have been a quiet meal out with my elderly relative.

Went with a large group. The girls serving us were lovely and cheerful. Food tasted great. Service was a bit slow for dessert but maybe only because it was a large group. I will go again even though its not close to me.

First impressions are a very quaint traditional country pub. We had a group of about twenty for an afternoon meal. The only word I can use when describing the food is exceptional. Taste fantastic. Portion size was great and to serve twenty meals in ten minutes outstanding. Food or drinks the rose and crown is in my top five best an absolute must visit. Thanks to all the staff hopefully we’ll be back soon.

Was a sad occasion, as was a funeral wake. Pub welcoming and food good.

I didn't eat on this recent visit but I have eaten here before and can highly recommend it. There's a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the staff are always friendly and welcoming.

Staying in the area for a few days, and came here for Sunday lunch. Excellent food, well presented and very good, attentive service. Would definitely come here again.

Had lunch here today with my wife and parents; lovely food, well looked after by the staff, this is my second time here and will be returning. Can’t fault it, highly recommended

A wonderful traditional pub with great food and real ale, in a relaxing pleasant atmosphere.

My date really fancied pizza & the chef was very accommodating, making him exactly what he wished for. The Sunday lunch for me was divine, fresh veg & a jug of gravy. Perfection!

After trying other eateries in Farnham we found the rose & crown the resturant looks wonderful but because we had our little dog we had the use of a lovely little bar or an event room up a few stairs at the back of the bar. The Sunday dinner we both had roast beef with mash & roast potatoes and loads of fresh vegetables, all piping hot excellent !! The service was polite and friendly we will call again.

Had my mums surprise 60th birthday party here on a Saturday evening. We had the gin room but mainly sat outside as the weather was lovely. The staff couldn't do enough for us they let me put up decorations. And the buffet food was a variety of hot and cold adults and kids food. The food was lovely and everyone commented on how nice it was. They've all said they would definitely come back and have their party's here aswell!

Lovely clean pub. Friendly staff. Have fussy eaters. They always accommodate for them. Food is always great cannot fault them! Always my first choice to goto in the village

Visited the pub at 6pm on 12/7/23,me and my wife wanted to order the fish n chips but a member of staff told they had sold out because it had been really hot, our second choice was steak and ale pie,again she should of told us the pie was sold out. She should of told us that when she gave us the menu before ordering our drinks or I wouldn’t of bothered of ordering any drinks.

Called in for a pint whilst walking round the village from the river. Nice place, pizzas looked good but we were eating g elsewhere later

i went for food saturday and i just wanted to say i will never be returning because the food wasnt the nicest and the girl on the bar was stood doing nothing but the lovley lady who served us did everything she could

Having read the reviews we decided to take our elderly mum for lunch today. I called too check they were doing lunches at 12 noon as I understand they don't do food on Monday & Tuesday. A young lady answered & when I asked if they were serving lunches today she simply said.. yes but we're very busy.. so no option to discuss or check if there were any available times to dine.

This is a cozy, friendly village pub with a great atmosphere. We visited for dinner and were really pleased with the food which was fresh, tasty, piping hot and arrived super quick. The staff are friendly and efficient, we were very impressed and it’s lovely that the pub is dog friendly . Definitely worth a visit :)

We've had a few meals here over the last few months and they have always spot on. Great beer aswell and well looked after.

Treated to Sunday Lunch by a friend who lives nearby. On arrival , I paid for the drinks, and mid - Lunch my wife had another glass of wine , which again she paid for We all had an excellent three course meal and the staff were pleasant. BUT , when our friend went to pay , all drinks had been added to the bill. This would have been a 5 star review but for this error. Staff training me thinks

Popped in after a walk by the River Trent. Staff were welcoming and friendly, as well as the pub being dog friendly. Very well presented pub with good food and beer. Enjoyed the Steak and Ale pie with super chunky chips. Certainly recommend a visit

A group of us from Newark Evangelical Church and Fernwood Community Church did some carol singing at the Rose and Crown. It was for a friendship group that started after the lockdown. A lovely idea. We enjoyed meeting folk there and singing the carols that celebrate the arrival of the Saviour - 'Christ the Lord'! Thanks to the kind Staff there who let the friendship group use the premises and accommodated us too the afternoon!

We have just eaten the most delicious Sunday at this pub , well worth the trip from Melton Mowbray. We were treated to the meal by a friend. All of us had the 3 course , I had the crispy chicken strips with barbecue sauce, to start , delicious. With a choice of 3 meats All courses were substantial in size. Finally, the two young people who served us were brilliant

Called in on spec early one Friday evening. Got a good welcome. Draught beer was good and obviously well kept. We both had fish and chips which was delicious and served by enthusiastic staff. Very impressed and a great atmosphere in a tradiotional pub. Will return

We visited today and what lovely place it still is. The staff member Emma was really friendly. We both had the Fish and Chips(more about that in a moment) and my mum wanted a gammon. This wasn’t advertised on the menu but we asked and a gammon was not problem. The Fish&Chips were amazing and if I’m honest they’re the best I think I’ve ever had. Really freshly cooked, the cod, the batter, was beautiful and the chips were gorgeous. My mum said the gammon, eggs and chips were really nice. Top quality fresh food and a really friendly place. Great food and very friendly. Service for food however was very slow over 1 hour sitting at table waiting. Also took other peoples order before ours even though they arrived 10 minutes after us. They were served their food 20 minutes before us. Anyway good friendly restaurant. But does need to pay more attention. Might gave even the heat. Will review again after my next visit. I always review on the actual last vist as thing change. Recommend

Beer ok. Landlady has no backbone sends staff to do her job !! Won't be going back there while she runs the place used to be a busy and entertaining place she seems to have killed the atmosphere. Nothing wrong with the staff

We were treated to Suday Lunch by a friend who lives in Farndon. The Roast was delicious along with the accompanying vegetables and good thick gravy. My only little niggle was the time we had to wait for our meal .

Really lovely food, came out hot and tasted lovely. Staff were very attentive without hovering and it was a lonely atmosphere. As an ale drinker could of had more of a selection but other than that really nice.

There are so many different styles of seating area in this pub to suit all types or moods. The ambience is excellent, staff brilliant and the food is to die for. We will make a point of returning on our next visit to the marina.( the battered brie is incredible ).

Went for a family meal and was delighted. Server was really nice and went above and beyond with the children. Talked to them like little adults and let them order for themselves. Food was amazing, portions are more than ample and was piping hot. Can't wait to go back again.

A quiet lunchtime. They only had Everards Tiger on as a Real Ale but it was in very good condition. The beer garden has been upgraded since I last visited ( pre covid) and their covid precautions are well operated.

Met with friends on a Saturday night and the first time in this pub, the bar side was quite busy with locals with a nice atmosphere. The downside was the draft beer selection with only one real ale on offer which was a very average...

Great Sunday roast and great size portions. Value for money

Very disappointed. Went for a family lunch Booked a table for 4. Went in and barmaid was on her own and nobody acknowledged we was there we eventually went to sit at a vacant table Went to the bar and was waiting for at least 5 mins to be served there was only one other person to serve them barmaid went into other room to serve someone else. Obviously no fault of her own. More staff needed. Ordered food waited almost an hour the barmaid came to say some of the food was off the menu and asked us to relook. Did this then she returned 5 mins late to say one of the choices was on after all so we could have it. Waited another 20 mins til food came. Was ok nothing special by the appetite was gone. Nobody came to ask if food was ok or if we wanted dessert or apologize for waiting over an hour. We decided get pudding elsewhere so went to pay.we said we was dissapointed in the long wait and she apologized saying the chef was alone. If they can't cater or provide good service they shouldn't be open it at least explain when we 1st arrived. Was in there over 2 hours just for main course..sort it out Rose and Crown..wouldn't recommend

Well where do you start.Landlady doesn't exist.Landlord tries but fails .Food gone to the dogs .Two possibly three of the staff worth keeping as they keep it running.The landlord and ghost landlady need to have a serious discussion with Louise the previous landlady

Be prepared for a very long wait and lack of a good customer experience! The 1 star is for the quality of the fish. The experience I had whilst having lunch here with my 83 year old mum & grandaughter was appalling! The food took 1 hour to arrive, there were only 8 other diners so wouldn't describe it as busy, there was no apology or explanation for the delay, the young lady was abrupt & rude, merely stated 'its coming' when we asked. There was a hair in my granddaughters meal, we didn't complain about this however. I asked for £1.60 to be removed from the bill for the bread & butter I was not asked why, it was however removed. The reason was because the bread was hard, clearly they didn't care. My mum asked to speak to the manager regarding the young ladys attitude towards us & general lack of customer service, the manager can only be described as rude, also, he did not listen to what was being said & was too busy counting his money. My mum who has often gone to this pub (when previous managers there) for fish & chips with friend's felt her feedback was not being taken on board at all. He was abrupt & just stated ok & yet again no apology! I told the manager that based on how he had dealt with the situation ie: not listening & apologising to my mum, I would not be returning, he replied with 'see you later' so clearly doesn't listen or care!! The young lady said we were rude, I gather for complaining as we were not rude to either of them just 'expressing our disatisfaction' If this is how they treat customers let alone the elderly we won't be going back & we will tell friends & neighbours about our experience.

Busy, great value tasty food. Must have timed it right as we had the last free table sunday eve. Many customers were taking foil wrapped left overs away as they could not manage the plated meal.

We ordered a sizzler and it wasn’t any where near sizzling several people on the next table sent theirs back also ordered a steak and ale pie which was very nice but the gravy was to thick to pour ,service was quick though
