Today as usual came in for lunch such a shame the oat milk latte was undrinkable....they proceeded to argue about this drink as we refused to pay for something that was undrinkable in front of all there customers must say NOT good customer service and continued to follow us outside arguing, we explained this was not personal and everything else was nice. They need to work on the customer service and NOT ARGUE WITH CUSTOMERS WHO KEEP THERE CAFE GOING TERRIBLE SERVICE TODAY

I stopped yesterday on a return trip from Yorkshire to see Newark and have lunch with my partner . I chose this restaurant as it looked lovely from outside, the owner was welcoming and menu seemed interesting. Sadly the food did not deliver in taste nor did the portion size. The coffee and tea was ok. I cant fault service nor atmosphere, it has a lovely location. However, being a foodie ,it did not deliver on that aspect and it was relatively expensive. Both the seasoning on chips, resembling something from McDonald's, with a sprinkle of feta did nothing nor the halloumi burger. Alas its unlikely I'd return.

Lovely cafe/restaurant specialising in authentic Greek cuisine and baked goods, although it offers a wide variety of cakes, snacks and meals including a very generous full English breakfast. Green Olive is owned and run by chef-patron Kostas who finds time amid his amazing cooking to have a friendly chat with his customers. Many of these are regulars who look out for each other. So a lovely atmosphere has developed as people chat with each other across the tables. In warmer weather it's lovely to sit out in the shade of a covered area in the picturesque market square. Indoors, the cafe offers a snug downstairs area and a cosy, well-lit upstairs with views of the market square.

Visited Newark today 28/9/24 was looking for some where to have breakfast decided to try green olive what a big mistake my breakfast came absolutely disgusting the toast came with no butter the breakfast was swimming in oil, I asked for tomato ketchup and was told that would be 40p more never in my life have I been charged for ketchup with a breakfast, they say they are dog friendly but when we asked for a scrambled egg for our puppy they refused, which I found amazing as its another item they would have sold, if this was the last place on earth I would starve !!!!!!

This place cannot be called Greek. The gyros is certainly not a Greek thing, no taste, no spices, tzatziki almost inexistent, just a few pieces of onion and tomatoes, some meet from a frozen box; the poorest gyros I have ever ate also the most expensive £8.95. No Greek music, no Greek atmosphere. The first and the last time, here.

This was one of our favourite places until today. We called for lunch - it was busy due to the sunny weather. We sat at a table for a few minutes but didn't get served so I went inside to order. 2 lattes came - 1 was OK but the other was only ¾full and just warm. Eventually the gyros came. The chips were hot but the gyros was rubbish. Cold flatbread that just broke away. It wasn't full like normal and again just barely warm not hot. The meat actually looked as though it had been kept in a warming drawer like a bad kebab shop. I went to pay the bill and the girl serving pointed out the tip menu to me - I laughed. I doubt we will ever go there again - busy or not there is no excuse for the standard of food we were served today. I only gave it 3 stars for atmosphere because we were outside in the sun.

What a lovely place to eat! A last minute change of plans meant that we found ourselves in Newark on Sunday lunchtime in need of a light lunch. Although it was busy we had no problem finding a table inside and service was friendly and quick. We could also have sat outside or upstairs. The WORST meal deal in Newark. The food was good quality, but there was hardly any of it. My "three-item tapas" consisted of four (4) pepperoncini, three (3) "dolma" which, connected together, might make one ordinary dolma; and a tiny, tiny cup of olive spread. For this, which wouldn't make up **one** ordinary portion of tapas, I was charged £11.40. A COMPLETE RIPOFF.

We were on a road trip to Newark for the afternoon. It was very suprising that tuesday afternoon 90% of the restaurants/bars are closed. The town was dead. This place was open, we arrived 45 minutes before the official closing time. The lady said the kitchen is closed already, (why... nevermind, ok) we can have only coffe or whatever is on display. I felt that we not so welcome, so I told her we order coffe and some cakes, we will be quick and be out before closing. She said no probs. We sat down, having our cakes, and the next minute, a person came out from behind the wall, and stared at us on a way like "god sake...what the .... are you doing here". Probably the gentleman was the dishwasher, he was bringing the clean dishes in a basket. He looked very upset, he had to wash 5 more items on that "busy" day. Otherwise the place was alright, if they would hide their hate towards us, the rating could be 5 star, even if it wasn't something special. But now it is memorable because that was the most unprofessional (and funny) gesture we experienced in english hospitality in 8 years.

Came here with with my mum. Ordered the leek and potatoe soup, and it can only be described as dish water. No flavour what so ever and served with a plain crust off of a standard loaf of bread. When we complained was told "every one else likes it". But looking at other reviews on the internet, i can now see that that is not true. Tea for two, was a pot for one normal size cup with one tea bag. Feel like we were robbed. If you do eat here i would recommend you try something different, definitely not the soup!

I really have to question some of the negative reviews on this site concerning this establishment! Went today with family and had a great experience right from walking in the door to leaving. 2 of us had the leek and potato soup and it was thick and delicious, perfectly seasoned and hot, served with lovely fresh toasted bread, just what you need when it's only 3 degrees outside. Another member of our party had the Chicken and Bacon sandwich and it was well filled on fresh crusty bread. Tea's and coffees were also very good. The service was friendly and very efficient and the price point was excellent. My family use this cafe quite often and have never had a complaint about anything.

Not much to say about really other than the place is disgusting. I had to wait a long time for my food and I don’t think it’s freshly prepared at all as the menus implies. And the salad my god I didn’t realise that hair was now apart of it. The way the managers speak to the staff also is down right disrespectful especially when the staff look very young and this could be their first job. The place also needs a lot of cleaning I would recommend hiring a professional for this as apparently they are incapable to do it properly themselves. The menu itself is all over the place and isn’t very authentic. Definitely would not recommend here at all if you value your health and wellbeing and if you respect yourself enough.

Greek Walnut Cake, tasted stale and unpleasant. When I returned to the counter I was told that’s how it’s supposed to be. ( like old cake that was baked three weeks ago at £4.95 a slice). I rarely write reviews and never really complain but I feel disappointed in the quality of the food and service My advice is avoid the Green olive cafe and walk 30 seconds across the road to Costa where the cake is edible.

Overpriced and the staff are unclear of their own menu and food average at best. We had a quick look at the menu and on the board in the premises on the wall we chose a toastie The man serving us asked us if we wanted salad and crisps with it which we asked if it was included he said yes and when the bill came they added £250 on per portion . He obviously didn’t know his own menu and he was fumbling about not sure of anything. The lady came over and said it was on the menu in the book not on the wall The man should have said this when we asked if it was included as we were looking at the board in front of us and hadn’t seen it in the other All in all disappointing with their response and certainly wouldn’t return The food was pretty average and we never got asked what bread we would have wanted either

In Newark for the day. Noticed this place being popular. Had a taster menu of olives, mashed aubergine, dolmas, feta, Okra in tomato sauce with flat breads. Very tasty. Good place to sit and watch the world go by. The staff are very friendly and...

Loved it. The staff were polite and accommodated us. There was a very friendly elderly lady who I assume owns the place - she was kind, friendly and had a very calming aura. I will certainly go back

Visited here today after a walk along the river, was very disappointed. I had a latte which was bitter and my partner a tea which was undrinkable and we both had a scone each, with jam and cream, no butter, which had obviously been frozen and then defrosted, they were hard and crumbly. The most disappointing part was that everything was served in cardboard trays and cups and there were no trays to carry the food out on. This meant that I had to take everything out in two trips, this was not a problem in itself but this all suggests to me that the staff are too lazy to do things properly and to use proper plates, cups and cutlery. So for two virtually inedible scones and two drinks we paid £12 which is daylight robbery and if the staff continue in an this way I can't be see them having a business for much longer especially as all the other cafes etc we saw were very busy.

A lovely little cafe, the gingerbread latte was the best I have had so far this year! The prices are rather steep, especially as it seems a busy little coffee shop!
