The Alders in Newark and Sherwood

Had a great visit this Sunday. We came out on the bike to visit the cafe over the road, but it had sadly stopped serving food. So we ventured over here and had a carvey. 10/10 would recommend. The bar staff were extremely friendly. The carvery chef was also really nice and helpful. Food was gorgeous. Will be planning a return visit.

Wonderful meal, great service, Chef Aaron even treated our daughter to a suprise pud that had to be eaten with hands only! Lovely bloke.

Had the carvery all vegetables were cold cauliflower brick hard stuffing runny Roast potatoes reheats meat dry (turkey) Not very nice have had a carvery from there before it was Good this one very poor

1st ever visit today for a Sunday lunchtime meal. Decent atmosphere and friendly staff. My wife's Yorkshire looked the part but my wife really struggled to cut into it., I think it must have been sat for a.while and had a rock hard bottom. That said, she and my mother in law finished their carvery meals. My ultimate chicken burger was tasty but not hot enough just like my daughters cowboy burger, again just lukewarm. It was quite busy so I guess the kitchen was manic but getting the basics right of ensuring the food is hot should be the least we get for £80 odd.

Ordered 3 meals, mine was cold mash cold peas and sausages so rubbery they were uneatable. Husbands chips and peas cold pie was good. Granddaughter had a carvery which was fine. I ask waiter to come over and look at the food, he was really attentive and took my meal away to replace, and offered to bring my husband fresh chips. Problem was everyone had finish before my replacement came. Although hot there was no taste to the meal so ended up leaving it. Front of house staff good, food leaves a lot to be desired. Will not be going back.

We brought along our 5-year-old granddaughter. She wanted an Orange Fanta, none available nor anything like it. The nearest we got was Pepsi. My wife and I order rump steak, one medium, one medium rare. We both agreed we got one well done and one medium, but that seems to be standard for the UK. And the chips were dry and tasteless. When paying for our order I had to ask for the £1 kids deal, I was surprised it wasn't automatically set up on the till. Also, I had to ask if crayons were available for our granddaughter to colour in the back of the kids menu. I would have thought we would have been directed to get them from the bar when we arrived. On the plus side the staff were excellent, very polite, friendly and helpful.

Came highly recommended , 40 minute drive to get there and was really disappointed. The food came out in next to no time so it obviously wasn't cooked to order just microwaved, food sent back as chips were cold, burgers were cremated, onion rings were just warm and soggy. Won't eat there again poor quality On the plus side it's a lovely place and the beers were good.

A little to pricey for what you get but the gentleman on the bar was a credit to the pub,didn't get his name I'm afraid.

We are moving to the area in 4 weeks times so we thought we should try the Alders, but we were very disappointed, the meat pie had no 'lumps of beef' just gravy & a scattering of bits of beef,the chips were barely warm, my wife had the rump steak but 3 items of the salad were missing, plus the steak was just warm, not hot, it really was a let down, How can you tempt us back to try another different meal, to see if things have improved, if they have, you will be our local for our meals 'out' & drinks with our new friends & neighbours.

Started working away so been using toby carvery in the week for a decent meal i thought it was ok till i went here these give you lots more meat 8 oit 10 for meat served where toby i'd give 4 out of 10

Attended for a friend's retirement drinks. Approx. 15 of us in total. Fairly empty for a Friday night. Cannot speak as to food. - We didn't eat. Although most other people were eating. Yorkshire puddings on the carvery looked as big as a toddlers head & seemed very fresh ,not over cooked. Beer was satisfactory, although somewhat pricey imo. ( 2 pints& a shandy £17) Staff were very pleasant & helpful. Location was clean & airy. Pub quiz (free to enter) was on. Think people played for honour. Last orders were called early ( 2145 ish if I recall correctly) due to everyone else thinning out early in the evening. I guess that is the problem having a pub in a rural(ish) location. Nice for a clandestine rendezvous , or a walk in nearby Sherwood Forest. Close to Ollerton Roundabout & across the road from a McDonalds. Disabled access from the par cark (sic) Beer garden at the side for those sunnier occasions.

You feel very comfortable and the employees are very nice. The food tastes very good and the price is unbeatable.

Avoid if you have an allergy or intolerance. When we arrived we did get asked if there was any allergies and we explained our daughter if dairy intolerant, which we got told is no problem. We checked online with the allergy checker and ordered.. with no problems.. until 10 minutes later we get informed that actually the meal we had chosen with no dairy, they couldn’t provide as the don’t use separate fryers. Know I fully understand that they don’t want to risk cross contamination but surely you shouldn’t advertise something if you are not capable of doing it.

Regular place for us to come, always great food, staff excellent couldn't ask for anything better. However when we came on Monday evening I chose the carvery and whilst it was very good, food was barely warm, in fact mashed potatoes were cold. It will but stop us still coming but carvery needs to be improved with regard to the temperature of food.

It was a very busy night, and waited a while to be seated but once had been seated at a table, the service and food were great!

Nice food, carvery is lovely as always! Can’t remember the guys name, but he even sang happy birthday to the niece! Overall, beautiful restaurant.

An out of this world experience that will live long in the memory of anyone lucky enough to have the pleasure of such a magical experience, one that many will never experience in their lifetime - if you are ever able to, take the chance to go into space, do it! Wish I could, I’d love to walk on the moon. Instead of the moon we decided to go for lunch. About the lunch at The Alders…. nice food, great service and fantastic value. Carvery is exceptional and an explosion of flavours for your taste buds. Special thanks to Jade and Rebecca for unbelievable service. Never met such a caring, dedicated, cheerful, knowledgeable, wonderful pair that couldn’t do enough to make sure we had a fantastic visit. Their service is almost as good as the chance to visit the moon. Most likely, will visit again!

I visited The Alders 3 weeks ago and I would have gave it a 5 star review, the atmosphere, staff and food was amazing especially as they were very busy. But upon today’s visit, I was very disappointed. My group ordered at the same time and asked if they could let us know when the menu food was nearly ready so we could go fetch the carvery and sit and eat together. They said they would. I ordered 1 drink to be delivered to the table, this took 10minutes. The bar was quiet at this time but I couldn’t leave the table to get it personally. My daughters food then came out and we wasn’t told about it, so I had to ask about the carvery. The staff member went and got the carvery tickets, came back and said he didn’t realise we wanted notifying, even though it was him we asked to notify us on the food status. I went to get my other daughter’s carvery and my own, and was waiting a good 3 or 4 minutes until someone came out to assist in the carvery. 3 members of staff went in to the kitchen to notify them I was waiting but still took their time. When we got the carvery to the table, the meat was very dry, chewy and not very appealing. My daughter’s menu meal was also very poor.

This was a meet up of friends over lunch trip to Alders and the 2nd time in 6 months visit the first time we visited we all wanted a mixed grill and was told you had none available and then for this trip 3 of us wanted a mixed grill to be told they don't have any and then when one changed to have fish and chips was told they didn't have that either. Very disappointed! The meals we did order was okay the steak was overcooked to what I asked for but edible as was on a time limited visit.

We came for Mother’s Day and received the best service. Aaron was very polite and made us feel welcome. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who want a lovely meal out.

Haven't been for a while definitely will be going back again.

The staff at The Alders are second to none. I had booked a table for mother's day. Jade was our waitress, she was attentative and smiley. Myself and my mum had carvery, the chef was absolutely wonderful. The friendly banter really made our night, he was impressed with my mother's knowledge as he found out she used to be a chef. The little things like wishing a happy mother's day put a big smile on her face, and I'm really glad I chose to come here for our family meal.

I tried booking meal from table . Staff brought drinks but forgot to bring the vouchers for the carvery , had to go and ask for them. Beef was like eating bottom of your shoe and some of the roast potatoes were black inside . A waitress came and asked if we was enjoying our meal. We explained about the black inside the egg past potatoes and she just said oh they black and walked off . Spoke to another member of staff and he explained it was only her second day. He said he was speak to the chef and we never heard any more about it. Not much of a selection of vegetables on the carvery and the beef was tough. I would recommend the lock keeper a few miles down the road at Worksop. Staff there are friendly and more helpful.

Second visit in a month. First time was lovely. Today was not. Barely warm fries and a very hard, warmed up hot dog which i could neither stab with a fork or bite! Staff apologised but i feel a free drink or part refund would have been appropriate. Dint think we will return

A absolute gem!! Been driving past this place for a good 3 years and finally decided to book a table for date night and omg I was blown away.. walked in and was served with a smile and shown to our table and given all information, and nothing changed at the bar again service with smile when ordering drinks and ordering food and food was exceptional fast and cooked to perfection I had to send my compliments to the kitchen staff , one impartial person shown though and that was Rebecca assistant manager who customer service skills are out of this world she is excellent polite easy to approach and a all around nice person. And all staff who served is and spoke to us was so lovely. We will definitely be back again and again new favourite place Thanks again to you all for a lovely evening Mr & Mr Taylor

The tuna melt was lovely and was very yummy. The chops was so crispy and lovely just how I like them. The onion rings was really good and was a good portion size

The carvery food was terrible, it was over cooked and dried out, most of the potatoes and veg were inedible, the Yorkshire pudding was dry and hard as well and it took an age and a half to receive the carvery tickets when ordering through the app. The place is massively understaffed, the staff were friendly but you could just see it in their faces how stressed they were and that they were trying to do multiple things at once, I felt sorry for them and I’m not blaming them for the experience we received. These companies need to start spending money on staff if they expect customers to keep returning.

The staff were amazing and we had a great laugh with them while at the bar. The food was good and it's just a nice place to go.

We managed to get a table by turning up. We both really enjoyed the carvery but we did have a little wait for fresh gravy. The desserts were very nice. Great service and value for money.

Always find a friendly welcome, have good offers when you book on line, every meal I have had I've been extremely satisfied, I try to call at least once a month with my friend, we find excellent quality at a reasonable price, plenty to choose from on the menu, something for every occasion, looking forward to my next visit.

Absolutely perfect, from start to finish, a booking of 6 and everything was great.

Our first visit and what a disappointment, we waited over 40 minutes for food to arrive. The chicken and mushroom pie was not hot, the pastry was so hard you couldn't cut into it and very lack of chicken. Chicken Tikka masala had more rice...

We’ve been a few times to Alders recently and all the staff are lovely and welcoming. Cannot fault anything, from staff to service to food. We always have the ( meat free) carvery. The food is delicious especially the mash and carrots. And the Yorkshires and stuffing. And so pleased it’s all vegan gravy now! The only thing is the roasties aren’t dark enough. I like them dark brown and crispy. But still very tasty. Everyone is friendly. We will definitely keep going back. It’s our new favourite!

had chicken kebab, chicken not cooked, cold, awful colour. sent it back they had put chicken on grill then slapped in back on old plate. then of course chips were cold. poor meal no money back

We stopped here to try Sunday Lunch. The food was great but the service was amazing, espically Aaron, he was very friendly.
