The Riverside in Newark and Sherwood

we always meet up here for a meal and usually enjoy our experience. Last night we were sat next to a large crowd which included young children they had finished their meal and were now drinking and we were just being served it was past 8pm. The children encouraged by the mother were loud and running up and down the middle of the restaurant. The staff failed to do anything to stop this. We asked them to stop their children running amok and were subjected to angry verbal abuse on behalf of the mother and threats y a male in the party because we complained to the staff. I was unable to eat my meal because I was too upset by the shouting and verbal abuse and when the waitress came to clear our table she asked if all was OK and I explained that I could not eat my meal because of the events and staff failure to do anything she retorted thats your problem. We were not offered a refund for my meal just an offer of complimentary coffee. We will not be returning.

We have been regular diners here, for several years. Recently the quality of the meals has gone down, and portion size has become smaller. Unfortunately prices have gone up. £8:95 for a sweet is excessive. I think we may try to find an alternative venue.

Excellent place for lunch. The fish and chips were amazing, incredibly light and crispy batter!

The Riverside used to have really good food, sightly pricey but worth it. We went for birthdays, Christmas and other special occasions. The prices have stayed the same (gone down relativeley) but so has the quality. The signature mushrooms is a 1/4 size of the original and uses tinned things, not the varied wild mushrooms they used to be. Chicken burger was very ordinary - my wife described it as anemic. And £1 for a slice of cheese and another £1 for a bit of bacon. The 1/2 chicken was not recognisable. It had been deboned, was actually a quarter and the part with the wing and skin that usually gets slung or goes to the dog. Salty, dry, prepackaged and warmed up. The service was OK, but the waitress argued with me when I told her the chicken was very poor "if you'd said something when I came over, I could have swapped it around". I hadn't tried it at that point. She argued again. I was offered a free coffee, but we'd had enough (of a dissapointment) by then. Guys, you are really going to have to do better. I should have realised when I got a booking almost at any time on a Saturday night. No one goes back.

Lovely food although portions quite on the small side compared to the vast majority of places we've visited. A few people commented on this point too. The place and staff are inviting and friendly but the car park is an absolute nightmare, especially if you're disabled - pot holes and uneven surfaces all over.

Food was decent for the price especially the set menu with good choices. Service was good a little slow in busy times to be expected. Lovely place

Met friends here for Sunday Dinner, everyone enjoyed their meals. I had the roast pork which was very tasty.

Nice pub/restaurant - bar/restaurant staff excellent - service good BUT £20.95 for two small Sea Bass Fillets, £6.30 for a pint of Brixton Reliance and £1.60 for a dash of Lemonade - come on !!!!! Best advice is to go before 18:30 and take advantage of lunchtime menus

Comfortable restaurant/pub by the River Trent. The lunch menu is quite adequate or for more comprehensive choices go for the full menu. A few good ales available including local beers.

The beer was good. But you don't get a full pint. Be clear I am not talking about the head. I mean the top of the head was 1cm lower than the brim. There were three cask ales, the doom bar was the best. There was a very light ale also. It is not really a pub. But not really a restaurant.

Overpriced for portions, but food nice enough. Parking tricky due to lack of availability, especially for larger family vehicles.

First time coming here today. Sadly incredibly disappointing. Me and my partner had a roast beef dinner. Roast potatoes were hard and tasted a bit plastic. Partners Yorkshire pudding didn't taste nice. The veg wasn't too bad. The beef wasn't the best. But edible. For the price of the meal it really wasn't worth it. Very disappointed to be honest. Atmosphere was lovely and the staff were lovely when we told them about the food.

Had Sunday lunch a little bit disappointing

Great food and drink. Good service.... prices above average, but not too high. Surrounding is first class. Only gripe is the seasoning of the burgers. Simply tasted like minced beef. Like you had cooked mince to go in a cottage pie. Needs lifting to give it wow....

My friends and I ate from the Fixed Price Menu which is great value at £18.95 for 2 courses. Food was excellent. Service was good but unfortunately the Bill was incorrect so could have been overcharged for drinks, which are expensive enough, if not checked. We like the atmosphere which is cosy and relaxed so will be visiting again.

Our first visit to the Riverside we will differently be returning . Food was excellent catered very well for vegetarians so nice to have a choice . Service was very good to Highly recommended

Group of 9 family from various locations met for a meal, really excellent in all aspects. Only slight disappointment for me was my sweet, so that's probably down to me not the Riverside.

Great place we found by chance. Very busy stylish decor and great food. Would be so nice in the summer I am sure as right by the canal with some outdoor seating.

Really nice place, we've been here loads over the last few years. Sometimes for drinks, sometimes for food and it's always very consistently good. Not cheap but good value food and friendly relaxed atmosphere.

Easy to park, great exterior and interior design to realy be able to relax and enjoy the fantastic food and create a very relaxing atmosphere. The staff were amazing and also interactive with our group able to have a laugh with us and at us 😄. Highly recommended for anyone to visit and have a great experience too.

Had full English breakfast....portions quite small for price....not value for money really Avocado not ripe...price was adjusted accordingly. However, quite disappointed when we've been before now it's changed 😕 there's only certain corners to cut before losing the customer....that doesn't return,,.....

Visited with my parents Beautiful clean restaurant Welcoming staff Lovely decor and ambience Lovely food nicely presented and piping hot Can’t fault anything I had vegetarian option of mushroom risotto it was delicious with spinach and pine nuts My dad had fish and chips they were beautiful Mum had chicken with potato dauphinois she said the mushroom sauce with it was divine We will return again soon

Very nice lunch meeting whilst sampling a variety of the 'sharing plates'. Falafel, wings, squid, olives n bread, ribs etc all very nice. Good draught ales aswell. Plus on a sunny day like today lovely down on the river! Was here again on Tuesday night for drinks, every draught Ale was rancid! And not cheap I'll add. Real shame....

Always enjoy the Riverside. We go about once a month and are never disappointed. The staff are great and the food is lovely.

Lovely venue. Service a little slow and food not the best value but would return again.

Food was good although a little expensive compared to some other pubs I have eaten in.

First time visit on 27th December. Called on speck with family and was pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent, nothing to complain about here. We will definitely return when we're next in the area.

We had our team Christmas meal there this year. The atmosphere was very homey, and the food was excellent, the same as the service. Would recommend it.

Close to the river is always great experience

Went on a Monday so nice and quiet. Restaurant is very inviting with plenty of tables and nice decor. Food absolutely wonderful.

Had a fabulous Full English Breakfast with extra Potato Tots on Good Friday. Brilliant way to start the day with great service, excellent food, especially the Tots. Just a shame the piped music is a little lame, especially in the mornings Edit 24 Sep 2023 - The music is now much better and the breakfast is still excellent

Went for a birthday meal with friends great atmosphere, quick service, lovely food great night had by all.

Have eaten here a good few times whilst on the river. Food is excellent, staff attentive and efficient, real ale options are limited but its a restaurant not an ale house. My only real "gripe" is the menu stays pretty similar and when coming regularly would be nice to see some fresh options once in a while.

Service is very good, attentive, and polite, and couldn't do enough for us. We weren't waiting long for drinks or food, which was piping hot and freshly cooked. Absolutely delicious. We tried each others and don't think there is anything on the menu that we wouldn't like.

We should of gone to the other bar down the road!! Or McDonald's. Was my birthday treat! Partner had these awful chicken wings statrer, followed by an even worse steak pie full of kidney and looked awful, veg over done and meal was very dry! Pudding was the best can't fault that. Portions are very small. We only drink water took ages to get a refill then had 4 glasses bought over, communication in any establishment is key sadly this place lacks this. 1 spoiled birthday meal

It's a beautiful clean presented pub, immaculate, lovely location. Food was just OK, staff was excellent, extremely helpful and cheerful, very attentive. The biggest issue was the High volume noise of children, it's a verge big eating area, shame cannot divide family's from customers without children. The noise pollution definitely ruined it for us.

Having moved out of the area last year we still come back to the Riverside for the special meals. Always good food, very attentive staff & a very pleasant atmosphere. The fixed menu is good value for the money.
